30 People Post Their Dumbest Ideas That Might Just Might Make The World A Better Place
The brain is a truly fantastic thing. The same organ that’s capable of controlling a myriad of passive as well as active bodily functions, comprehending elaborately complex concepts, and providing a unique kind of sentience is also the organ that often slips us a dumb idea. Or two. OK, much more.
But, hey, not all ideas are dumb, despite you thinking so. A curious Twitter user by the name of Bijan asked the internet what’s the dumbest idea people ever had, but are nevertheless convinced it’d still make the world a better place for all.

I also think they should live on an "average" wage for a year or two so they understand what the average person/family have to go through.
Legalize weed across the states, tax it, and use that money to repair the roads. Call it Operation Pothole.
I have 30 years clean and sober. Having lived as an addict and watched newcomers come in and out over the years, I can definitively say ..Nope, Wouldn't work. Addicts will not stop stealing. Taxable means more expensive thus still having a market for illegal drugs that are non taxed and cheaper. Making them legal means regulations that the cartel will just avoid thus continuing drug smuggling and illegal sales. Legalization is a pipe dream. Making it easier for addicts to use NEVER makes the problem go away.
Would this really stop people from stealing though? The reason they steal is to get money to buy drugs and that wouldn't really change if they were legal.
Look into countries where drugs are legalized or decriminalized. Portugal is a good example. It never solves the problems entirely, but overall drug use and related crime goes down.
Load More Replies...Drugs should be legal and taxed. I don't think it would stop cartels, though.
It would. Bootleggers stopped after prohibition.
Load More Replies...I agree. There would be soooo much more benefits legalising drugs than the risks. The governments are currently fighting a war they cannot win.
That depends how you define winning, and close inspection of why they ended up creating a war on drugs. The links between organised crime, political power and commercial influence are closer than is comfortable. Legalising and taxing pretty much all drugs seems a no brainer if they were serious about crime and health (perhaps with some initial regulation of where it can be sold).
Load More Replies...I live in Portugal. All our drugs have been decriminalised and it’s has significantly lowered drug use. Though we do not tax them and sell them.
It's not just decriminalization that lowered the drug use. The addicts were also offered help (and no judgment) and addiction started to be looked at as a medical (and social) problem that needed to be solved instead of as a moral failing that needed to be punished. At least that's what I've heard
Load More Replies...And use some of the funds for safe injection centers that also help curb addiction. They already do this in Canada.
You are ridiculous, legalized drugs wouldn't cut down on accidental overdoses. By the way only druggies want drugs legalized.
Load More Replies...They've decriminilised drugs in Portugal and plow all the money they would use to fight drugs into paying for rehab for users and apparently this is working very well, drug use is lower and so is crime linked to drugs.
But ... less drug addictions, less crimes, less prisoners, less ridiculously underpaid workers in private prisons, less corporate profit ... now we have arrived at the actual issue. Do less capitalism. But yeah, seriously, legalizing drugs (in combination with education and help centers - legalization alone won't cut it) is not a bad idea. Portugal did it several years ago and the outcome was very positive.
That was already implemented in some countries to positive results. "War on drugs" is stupid
So many posts show how ignorant some people are. We need more empathy and understanding. Legalize all of it. It not a cure all to budget problems, but instead of locking nonviolent criminals up, people could get help when they are ready. And if you legalize things like heroin, kids won't all of a sudden start lining up at the needle exchange to try drugs. That's a very silly thought.
Use tax money to pay for addiction treatment. Addiction is a medical problem.
Today in many of the states that have legalized medical weed, the states fees to individuals are so high, and the cost of the weed is so high that illegal weed is still much more affordable. So the illegal dealers are still thriving.
DC has the most expensive weed in the country, and illegal dealers don’t thrive really, although some still exist. Most just change their operation and join in the legal game.
Load More Replies...No. I don't think that approach would work. Sure hasn't with Pot in Calif. Just gave the politicians a raise.
Weed is legal in Canada ,so the dealers sell it for less than the government lol , (at least where I lived)
Hoe are addicts supposed to hold down jobs, while they are strung out on heroin, crack and who knows what else. Where I work I had to pass a drug test to get hired, if I smoked even so much as "weed", well then I would not have gotten the job. Just because the drug is legalized doesn't mean it is magically going to be dirt cheap.
Would rather use that money to fund rehab centers and preventative therapy so all that newly legal Meth doesn't destroy peoples lives the way Meth is known to do
Why should teachers income be tripled other workers are just as deserving
Yeah, the war on drugs is an absolute failure. However, that money isn't nearly enough for medicare for all.
But then the people making absolute boat loads of cash from the "war on drugs" would be forced to find actual jobs. Just kidding. They have enough to retire they just want to get richer.
Addicts wouldn't have to steal? Wtf? Where are they going to get the money to buy the drugs???
Maybe not *all* drugs, because there's some super bad ones that can seriously cause damage to people who take them.
There are countries that already do this. And if someone uses drugs too much they are given counseling to find out why they are doing that.
Also tripling teacher income: estimated number of teachers in the US is 3.5 million according to NCES.gov Now let's say tripling their income means taking it from something like $40k - $60k, up to $120k - $180k. That's something like $80k per teacher then at the low end. $80K x 3.5 million teachers is $280 Billion. That's also far more than what the Federal govt. spends on incarcerating drug dealers.
Agreed with legalizing all drugs and there being health coverage for all. BUT the estimated cost of the US Govt. funding medicare for all citizens currently without health insurance is, by the estimates of any economists, in the trillions of dollars per year. The amount the federal govt. would save from legalizing all drugs is not even close to that level of money, maybe a few billion dollars at most that the federal govt. would save. Health coverage for all American citizens is possible, the trillions it requires can be generated, but only if we're all willing to pay way more in taxes, all but the very poorest citizens that is. Yes, the rich would have to pay more, but so would the middle and working class citizens. That's the only way it can actually happen and be a sustainable idea.
We are already doing this in Colorado. All money has to go to healthcare and education. For our marijuana taxes, 32% goes directly to healthcare (mostly state supported insurance), 21% for other public health/environment (this year was COVID testing in rural/under-supported areas), 16% for K-12 education (mainly fixing old schools/building new ones right now but some salaries), 16% for local government to be used on local projects related to public health or education (detox centers, homeless shelters, afterschool programs, etc), and the remaining ~15% on other projects tangentially related (college scholarships, agriculture research into grow practices using less energy, job re-training for those who were held for 3 strike possession charges and granted clemency. meals on wheels vans , etc). Last year Denver passed a law decriminalizing mushrooms as well.
And the deaths from the more pure drugs causing OD's, or the drug-driving, the hallucinations and mental illness leading to murders, the list goes on...
Look up Meth-induced heart failure before you campaign to legalize ALL drugs.
Just look at what meth is doing to our families, communities and country. Make it legal,? NEVER!
Load More Replies...Only law members of the groups disproportionately affected by drug laws to have licenses to sell them legally.
doesn't solve the whole problem. Weed is legal in Canada, but a lot of it is still bought on the black market.
As H L Mencken said there's a simple solution for every problem,, and it's always wrong. Teachers don't require triple pay; they're quite well paid in most cases. The cartels will remain in business because they'll undercut the legal price and adedicts will continue stealing no matter what. If you want to do anything tp improve education, support charter schools.
This is literally the stupidest idea I've ever heard of. Oregon legalized weed and now we have a huge increase of students using drugs.
Make drugs more expensive by taxing them and then the addicts wouldn't have to steal? LOL!
Pot is legal in many places. And too expensive to purchase legally so there are still drug dealers... this idea sounds good but it wont stop illegal sales
And for medical safety you can only do a drug you've never done before in specific spaces with medical staff on hand.
Definitely, and for crying out loud ride in single file, not 2-3+ abreast.
Well in Australia it is illegal to ask a breastfeeding mother to leave or move elsewhere etc. Doesn't matter if she is feeding in the middle of a shopping centre, a restaurant etc. From my observations, it seems that other women are the ones that complain about breastfeeding in public, a lot more than men do.
This one makes me so sad, especially because of how women and PoC are so much more routinely dismissed, leading to sometimes dire consequences.
Knowing me I would procrastinate until June, then „relax“ during the summer until I finally put together a manuscript in december.
All the money that is spent on marketing and advertising saved would make products cheaper, and if the product changes are good, it will sell itself X
Like a personal ID coin for shopping cart..if you don't return the cart you don't have your coin back and you can't get the next cart..
Well, the horn is supposed to be used only in case of emergency. If you are in an emergency, you don't need that level of stress added on top of it.
Can't remember where is was, but in a town in Europe everyone parked with their handbrake off so people could move the other cars back and forth as they parked or pulled away so they could all fit in

some pf these actually harms the earth in the long run, but they DID ASK for their dumbest ideas, soooo
Best silly idea I heard that seemed valid was by Chris Rock. He suggested bullets should cost some ridiculous amount of money each. That way if someone shot a person you know it wasn't by accident.
My dumb idea is to mount a knife blade in the steering wheel connected to the bumper so if a car driver hits a pedestrian, the driver gets stabbed. There are too many accidents from drivers who get no punishment at all when they just say "I didn't see him" -- if the driver was in just as much danger as the pedestrian, they'd actually look for pedestrians. I've had many close calls from drivers approaching a red light and rolling through to make a right turn on red and didn't even see me already in the cross walk because they were only looking for cars, not pedestrians.
Try not assuming that people were being careless, and simply legit didn't see you. Honest mistakes do happen, you know. Also, if it is happening "many times" it is very possible the problem is in fact with the commonality the incidents share...you. If the light is red, you shouldn't be crossing, dumbass.
Load More Replies...The "No Money Party". Create a political party in the United States whose sole purpose is to prove that a candidate can get elected to a federal office (Rep or Sen) with zero political contributions. It would be based purely on social media and volunteers could print out posters or post online. The candidate would be completely neutral and base all of their decisions on polling results. The party would be disbanded after achieving its goal. It would be a purely philosophical test and, if successful would weaken the power that money has over our elections.
Be a kind human being to make up for the oxygen you are sucking up in the atmosphere
Ok absolutely mad idea for here in the USA but employees are encouraged to talk about their wages to help ensure fair and equitable wages for everyone according to their experience and skills, not according to who management hangs out with on lunch.
Those who deny pandemics and are anti vaxxers should not be treated for the diseases they deny existed or refuse to be vaccinated for. Those who cannot be vaccinated due to previous health conditions are exempt.
Ok here's my idea. We already have the ability to grow ears on the backs of rats so why not make little photosynthesizers that can be tattooed onto our backs and shoulders in cool designs so that the majority of our energy could be generated directly from sunlight? Of course we would still eat occasionally for fun and take in all our essential vitamins and protein and stuff but it would make a huge impact on reducing our food-related footprint on the planet.
Ok. SO hear me out. Phone companies are seriously sleeping on a "projector mode" for phones. It could come out of the flashlight, and they can basically cast their phone screen onto any surface. It would be better for your eyes, cause you're not looking directly into the screen, and do you REALIZE how much people would rather buy a phone over a whole projector and screen so they can use it twice a year. And it would be so much more portable!
An adjustable mirror on the back of my car so I can reflect HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS back into the face of the vehicle behind me. Especially effective when stuck in a drive-thru food place line at night.
Every person who tells me I HAVE to become pregnant, after I have said I don’t want to, immediately becomes pregnant with no right to an abortion.
I think it was Dave Barry who said that if you forget to turn off your turn signal for more than five minutes, the car should automatically turn that direction
You just caused a horrible crash in my imagination! Stop it!

Load More Replies...The double blinker. The double blinker would indicate a u-turn if in the left most turning lane. It would also be used to indicate a multi-lane change while moving. Basically a way of telling another driver I need to get all the way over, not just trying to get in front of you.
I make u-turns about 3-5 times a week. I have been (in my head) designing a u-turn signal and trying to figure out how I would wire it into my trailer. I would need a control on the dash and a link to my (in North America) regular left turn signal.
