34 Heartbreaking Pics Of Overworked Doctors Are Going Viral, Proving That They Too Have Human Limits
As the number of people testing positive for coronavirus is skyrocketing around the globe, with more than 35K confirmed in the US alone, tragic milestones are hit daily. Death tolls in Italy have reached 5,476, while Spain has been hit with 1,813 losses. It’s now clear that curbing the pandemic will take a full-blown battle.
And medical workers are now fighting on the front line. The heartbreaking pictures below serve as living proof of what’s happening behind the emergency doors. From eternal shifts that leave their faces severely bruised to working without proper equipment and risking lives—the sacrifice is overwhelming. While you scroll through the pictures, take a moment to think about these heroes and thank them.

Face After 13 Hours ICU Work
"I don't love selfies.
Yesterday, though, I took this photo. After 13 hours in ICU.
I am not a hero. I am a normal person"
Nurse After Hours Of Work In Intensive Care
I’ve Been A Critical Care Nurse For 13 Years, And I’ve Never Seen Anything Like What Is Happening Now In Our Healthcare System. It Is Beyond Overwhelming
"Not only are all of us fighting to survive the contagion itself, we are fighting for protection from an industry that failed to adequately prepare us for this pandemic. Everyone is scrambling. Our skills and expertise are being put to the test in every way imaginable right now. And it’s only just getting started."
These images stand as powerful reminders of the health crisis we are in right now. Dr. Anna Yaffee, a director of Global Health at Emory University, believes that sharing them is particularly important. “Sharing the images reinforces the point that there are people out there who are working tirelessly around the clock to provide lifesaving supportive care to those who are sick,” she commented.
But what makes frontline workers’ job particularly difficult is the shortage of protective supplies and hospital equipment. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio stated on Sunday that the city is “about 10 days away from seeing widespread shortages. If we don't get more ventilators, people will die."

This Is What You Look Like After Wearing An N95 Mask All Day. We Don’t Have Enough Of Anything. Help Us Help You
This Is An Anesthesiologist, Dr. John Henao, Who Is Running Out Of Ppe (Personal Protective Equipment) At His Hospital
"He, like most of us, are currently working under the assumption that most people are Covid19 positive and asymptomatic, but in order to save our dwindling supplies of PPE, are only using them for known cases of Covid19. In order to safely intubate all patients he had to jerry rig his own gear. He put on a CO2 sampling nasal cannula. He then put on a regular old plastic bag on over his head with a seal (you can see he taped it tightly around his neck). He ran the oxygen at 10 L/min. He sampled his CO2 to monitor. He did this for 10 min (long enough to intubate a patient). THIS is what we have to do because we have no PPE. I am horrified. I cannot even begin to know if this is safe and cannot recommend it. But, sure, we’ll be safe with bandanas, scarves, and homemade cloth masks. (That, folks, is sarcasm). For my friends who are fellow physicians, please be safe, and for those of you who are not, please call or tweet or write your elected officials to demand that we are given adequate equipment in order to treat you safely"
Your dedication is unbelievable! A million thank you and please keep your self safe!
I can not tell you how sorry I am. Somehow no one listened to what was coming out of China to get ready ourselves. A world wide pandemic was suppose to be the worst thing that could happen to us. No one talked about a pandemic which anyone was ill prepared for. Sending Prayers for strength and safety.
What you are forced to do is criminal. The incompetent narcissist in the White House is responsible for this catastrophe and should be imprisoned!
WOW. Just...wow. You are so appreciated and it's too bad you can't even get a break that you deserve while taking care of the rest of "us"...a million Thanks to you, and all of the nation's medical staff
OMG. I hope you get the necessary protection so that you can do your job safely. May God protect you from this horrible virus!
Tragic. Taping a bag over your head in order to safely practice is tragic. Thank you.
You sir are one of the bravest men I've ever seen and we thank you. I will be calling our state officials tomorrow morning!
Thank you for your dedication and devotion to helping those of us who are ill from this virus and other causes. We need you. We need you to take care of you as well. I am one of those at home making facemasks as fast as I possibly can to help our medical community and those who work in grocery stores. (((Hugs)))
When you do not have PPE for yourself... cover up the patient. Use clear drop clothes cheap online. This is 9 foot wide 400 foot long so just precut these sheets and drop them down over the patient's ENTIRE bed during a code and during intubation and insertion of lines. https://www.homedepot.com/p/HUSKY-9-ft-x-400-ft-Clear-1-mil-Plastic-Sheeting-CF0109-0400C/202184027?mtc=SEM-BA-F_PB-G-Multi-Multi-Husky-NA-NA-DSA-NA-NA-Catch_All_BT3&cm_mmc=SEM-BA-F_PB-G-Multi-Multi-Husky-NA-NA-DSA-NA-NA-Catch_All_BT3-71700000023577655-58700002495773633-39700021474223105&ds_rl=1178140&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6_vzBRCIARIsAOs54z6QGui5fYo49jp-E38HsX9waEQWeZYcReZPTp5_nxnuSkoHlxMk_JIaAkCWEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
We have written to them, but their mail was forwarded down to Hell in anticipation of their arrival.
Thank you so much for your hard work. You are cared about and appreciated more than you know.
Also give the hospital administrators a piece of your mind because they keep minimal supplies on hand in order to keep their profits up .. because of this practice the manufacturers do not produce more ( supply and demand) so I think this is more the greed of the industry and less of the government... I've experienced their supply decisions first hand on more than one occassion
Will be writing everyone in government I can think of, at all levels. This is unconscionable.
My deepest regrets that you are battling an incompetent Administration as well as a pandemic! Perfect storm and you are on the front lines! God bless and have you for all you are doing!!💞💞💗💗💗
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! Stay well and stay strong!
Being creative not good for you at this time, I am hopeful item will begin arriving for all facilities soon. Thank you is all I can offer, I will stay home to lesson your burden..
This is absurd. You guys are giving more than you can and that Barbie President is doing s**t. We love you! Please know that we see, we feel and you will be remembered
As a healthcare worker I see this and think, our not so bright patient population will now start walking around with a plastic bag over their head because they "saw a Dr. do it". Then the respiratory failure will be because of a different reason. It truly is a problem but this picture could cause a new problem. Should not be posted for anyone to see.
Thank you so much for the sacrifices that you make for us. God's hand be upon you for comfort.
bless your heart; we want all our resources sent to you immediately! We are calling our senators and representatives every day!
Physicians? How about healthcare workers. Your nurses and techs are working their asses of!
Words are not enough but please know that I am for forever grateful for all you do. I’m doing my part by staying home.
You make me feel small. Thank you for being so big. You health workers are amazing these days.
He is resourceful. People like him are the best of us. He deserves better.
I hope you get what you need and thank you for your commitment and work ethic
I would be willing to be one of your patients anytime but especially now. Your faith is my hope. I am in a senior community in MN that has had us "staying in place" for a couple weeks already. Smart & caring company.
Damn the ones who didn't take this seriously soon enough, so that supplies were available. Thank you.

My Battle Scars
"Life as a front line during this period ain’t easy, to be honest it sucks. You kiss your love ones good bye before heading to “war zone”. U wear every level of protection needed to ensure u do not be contacted with any of this virus and to not bring the virus back to the loved ones at home. You wear face shield/ goggles / N95 some even wear PAPR at work, trust me it ain’t easy to breath wearing any of those (N95 & PAPR) and with all that protection on, u work quick and fast, catching your breath with every step u make because LIVE MATTERS.
After finishing your shift sweaty with tiredness, aching back, sore calf, painful ankles. you found out that not only your Annual Leaves are frozen, you are not even allowed to leave the country as a front line staff and worst of all is when you have to cancel your wedding reception because both you and your significant other are front liners and you both are needed to fight the “war” because LIVE MATTERS.
Now after work I shower and wear back your uniform with pride, u take public transportation just to go home and rest because tomorrow is another for “war” but when u board the train or bus. People say u bring germs/ virus with u, that u are infecting other people and that u are INCONSIDERATE but u just be quite and leave the train or bus because u are tired after work to explain ur situation.
Now u tell us how are we suppose to feel or react?
Are we not human like everyone else?
Don’t we have love ones too?
Don’t we wish to go on a holiday too?
All got to say is,
I am a front line staff and this is my story."

Nurses Take Off Their Face Masks After A Grueling Shift In Fight With Novel Coronavirus
Dr. Joy Vink Is On The Frontline Of NYC's Battle With Covid-19, But Without Access To Proper Personal Protective Gear

This Is My Mom. She’s My Hero. She’s A 60 Year Old Primary Care Physician Testing Patients For Covid-19

As Most Of The World Is Isolating, Shutting Down, And Running As Far A Away From The Virus This Guy, Will Be Running Into It. This Guy Is My Guy And He Is An Emergency Room Doctor
"Today, my husband will be trained on how to don & doff - put on and take off a full protective suit. He will learn how to use and remove his gloves, masks, & eye shield protection. His mask will be tested. His gear will be poked and prodded with him in it. His nerves will be tested too but, he won’t fuss. People are sick and this his job. My husband is also part of a medical covid_19 team that will be doing everything & giving their everything to ensure as many people as possible come out on the other side of this crisis. He, along with the every other extraordinary nurse & frontline worker knows one thing is for sure - life how we have known it won’t look the same over the next several weeks. He will have to make devestating and heartbreaking decisions. He will be super exposed to the sickest patients. Some nights he will come home and need to talk. Other nights he won’t want to speak at all and that’s ok because I will be there. I’m so grateful I can be.. My husband does not like accolades or much attention, hence the very few pics of him on IG. Though now more than ever he and every other frontline worker needs to be told they are our heroes. Please do the same. In France while in lockdown, social media users have launched an initiative to show gratitude & support we applaud To every doctor & to all the other frontline heroes thank you. Thank you so much for your dedication & determination to fight this virus and to help those who need you now and need you the most"
I'm sure you was a hero before for the many life's you saved but now you are a super hero. May the universe bless you with a healthy and happy long life. Thank you 🌹
Nurse's Face After A Long Shift

This Is My New Reality. Our Unit Has Turned Into An Itu And I Spent 10.5hrs With 1hr Off In Full Ppe With Covid Patients
"You develop headaches from the straps, pain all over your face, all of which you can’t touch till you de-robe. I still have marks and pain this morning.
Please all stay at home and do what is required. Chances are you will be ok but you might pass it onto someone else. We don’t need more patients!!!"

"Covid19 is real and it’s here. Stay home, wash your hands and stop buying all the things that healthcare workers need to do their job. When we don’t have what we need to take care of you, we too will become ill... then who’s left to take care of you and your loved ones?"

Here’s Mine From Yesterday After Only 4 Hours
Nurse After Hours Of Work In Intensive Care
Here’s A Massive Thank You To The Icu Nurses, Intensivists, And Rts Who Are Wearing This Ppe For An Upwards Of 30-40 Minutes, If Not Longer
"If you were to wear an N95 mask properly for about 5-8 minutes in a patient’s room to let’s say take your patient to the bathroom safely, administer medications, or do an assessment, you’d probably have marks similar to these on your face
Not only are you left with these temporary marks, but you quickly experience difficulty breathing after the first few minutes of applying the mask. You also start to heat up from the layers of gown, gloves, and eye shield
...so here’s a massive thank you to the ICU nurses, intensivists, and RTs who are wearing this PPE for an upwards of 30-40 minutes, if not longer, during invasive (aerosol-generating) bedside procedures. Whether they’re dealing with an extubation or are all hands on deck during a code, they deserve a huge shout out for the physical exhaustion they endure when providing the safest & best care possible to their patients

We all need to do our part to lessen the load for these overworked, underappreciated, underfunded(equipment and materials) health care professionals and heed their and other official advice.
Ditto. STAY HOME so one day these people can go home too.
Load More Replies...Thank you to all doctors and nurses and every worker who are exposing themselves to provide essential services during this time. Thank you.
The last guy hit the nail on the head. While our politicians are turning to companies that are already fitted to make medical equipment and medical supplies, we need to also be going to the companies that can easily convert to making medical materials. Perfume and beauty product companies that can make sanitizer and soap. Clothing manufacturers that can make masks and protective equipment. Companies that make construction gear can make face masks normally used for painting and varnishing. It wouldn't take much to make them medical grade Anything to prevent the spread. Get companies to convert. Instead of handing money to the CEO's, use the money to temporarily convert companies to make products needed to fight this thing!!
A lot of companies have offered their production lines to be adopted but it's all not that easy also often supply lines are interrupted, companies who can produce don't know where to get resources from and companies with resources don't know who has demand. For example alcohol ran out in my country (yes this is possible it seems) and it took 2 days to get new supply. A lot of chaos all over. The people responsible are working almost 24/7 to get things coordinated but it's all a big mess and will take time to get it sorted out. And we need to work together and share. My country sent a plane load of emergency equipment to China when the virus was at it's peak there. Extreme right wing politicians went crazy because we would need it ourselves. Yes now we do, but guess what: China sent 3 planes with equipment back to us. Also China, Russia and Cuba is sending doctors to Italy to help. Isolate the people under risk but not the help.
Load More Replies...Even before this outbreak healthcare personnel in the United States had a long tradition of working long hours and being underpaid. Why would we want people who are making life or death decisions to be exhausted? It makes no sense. We, in the US, already pay a LOT more for healthcare than anywhere else in the world. The only excuse for our healthcare staff being overworked and underpaid is GREED.
Please, PLEASE take this seriously. My brother and sister-in-law are nurses, and last week she fell asleep driving home. She's okay, but that's not the point. If these lockdowns work, we'll feel like it was pointless BECAUSE WE WON'T HAVE AN EMERGENCY. For all you gamers out there, this is how the Forerunners stopped the Flood, sans "killing all life." Please don't kill my family with stupid and selfish behavior.
Maybe change the title of this to "... overworked medical staff" and not just "Doctors".. There's also nurses and techs doing most of direct patient care and then phlebotomists, lab techs, rad techs, registration, housekeeping, transport, EMTs and medics.
i pray that all the nurse and doctors who are fighting this stay well.
I am one less worry for these people. I stay at home and I even don't want to call for food delivery so that some poor delivery guy with family wouldn't have to worry that he'll catch my virus in case I'm one of the asymptomatic people out there. Stay strong doctors and nurses! BTW, all of their eyes look haunted.
these are the real heros the parents the teachers the medical staff the retail workers, not the governments that care only for the money and fame
These people are wonderful and deserve more recognition. Not all heros wear capes.
You are all amazing!!!! Thank you so much for your bravery and dedication... Wirral uk
I just want to give a hug to all of these people. They look like they need one. I wish I could do more, but to those who ARE doing things to help, thank you. Thank you so very much. Please be ok.
When this all began, I warned my friends not to hoard masks or gloves, or any other genuine medical supply. They all ganged up on me about how they "deserved to be protected too". The fact is if you aren't high risk or immunocompromised: You. Don't. Need. A. Mask. Sure it would be nice for extra protection, but it is a very finite supply, and there are plenty of people who desperately need them. Both my parents are doctors, luckily not the hospital kind though. My dads' clinic had to shut down, and he was laid off because they didn't have enough necessary supplies to keep running. My mom's work barely has enough supplies, but they've somehow managed. This means for my family, infection is an eventuality and we all act like we've been exposed because my mom is so high-risk for getting it. Don't hoard masks. And after all of this is over, don't go off on how doctors are selfish and only want people's money, not to help them (another thing friends of mine have said).
YOU DO NEED A MASK. Everyine needs a mask. The thing is, you won't know for days and days that you have it and before first symptoms will hit you you will be spreading it and infect hundreds unknowingly. STAY HOME IF YOU CAN, NOT EVEN A WALK IS ACCEPTABLE AND IF YOU MUST GO OUT WEAR A MASK. It doesnt have to be real surgical mask. Take a bedsheet, cut 20x20 cm (8x8 in) squares, make 3 "frills", sew around attach 40 cm strings/straps. Boom, 20 minutes of work and a mask is done. Internet is full of diy how to make them.

Too bad he can't be impeached for lying to America & putting everyone's health in jeopardy. Of course, since before he was elected, his goal was to "thin out the herd" of the elderly & disabled & now he's got his chance even better than just financially.

GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE WORKING THESE 'FRONT LINES'! <3 IT'S SICKENING THAT PPE 'S ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY! BE SAFE & STAY STRONG.....
Hospital workers, nurses, doctors, receptionists, cleaners, literally anyone overworked and hazarding their health (incl...supermarket/convenience store workers, delivery and logistics people, other cleaners, rubbish collectors, people working for services e.g. hearing, electricity, internet) and teachers...now is the time that we really see what roles are essential for society and maybe they should be paid appropriately at the very least and/or given hazard pay.
Each and every one of you are absolutely amazing. I have great respect for all of the heroes that work hard to help the sick.
I think that's what we signed up for when we spent all those hours studying and earning our titles. Not one of the facilities I've been to since the beginning of this has anything more protective than the standard paper masks.
This makes me want to cry for so many different reasons. I know most of you don’t think you are hero’s. YOU ARE! We love you and appreciate everything you do. Try to get rest and know you are loved and thought about everyday. May you all be safe and healthy and know that no matter how many people we lose, you helped SAVE many more. And I’m sure the ones we lose will have had the very best care you could possibly give. Just love, love love to all of you!
Bless all of you who do your best to keep our health care running. As always you are overworked and understaffed, but now you are under equipped too. I hope that people that can make the decisions are creative enough to ask/demand that those that can will manufacture what you need to do your job.
what if we went into quarantine b/c they needed to change the suns battery
I work at our local ER and is very awful working for 12 hours wearing DPI
Thank you so much.. you're all the real hero on this war against covid-19
I'm sure you was a hero before for the many life's you saved but now you are a super hero. May the universe bless you with a healthy and happy long life. Thank you 🌹
to believe that we all hoard the stuff and medical equipment that are necessary to frontline workers! Doctors and nurses, we pray for you!
Boo hoo, pussies...... About time they earned their money. I live with s**t worse than that on a daily basis, always have and always will. How about the construction workers post pics of their boo-boo's?
Boo hoo..... About time they earned their money. I live with s**t worse than this on a daily basis, have always and will continue.
I feel so sad after viewing these photos. These people look so exhausted. The despair is written all over their faces! Bless them all! They are our saviors...Thank you to all those helping the sick fight this battle❤
I am so happy to finally see the actual people who are working so hard to help their patients get through this illness. We see their photos and now can sympathize with them and can visualize who they are as they do their jobs. Their role is so critical, hopefully we will reward them when this is over with honors galore; they deserve it. You deserve a Pulitzer for this post! Keep up the good work; it sure beats writing copy for a corporation!
these are mostly pictures of NURSES!! change the godam headline!!! it's NURSES who are at the front, idiots! i'm not a nurse, but you are drinking that 'the doctors will take care of us' kool-aid yeesh.
What about a full snorkel mask?? Modified ? It would be expensive at first But The mask could be cleaned by Lysol / alcohol spray completely.., and re-used over and over.. Only part needed to be replaced would be the hepa-type filter for the snorkel valve ,?? Just an idea ... the pressure would be more dispersed evenly across the face and the nasal/eye membranes would be sealed and protected.
How is it that we have just come to expect that there are no real people behind the masks who have to deal with those precious times we don't always get to share with our loved ones. The mother or father that made you, that you would never be without, they are cared for by those who have parents of their own. And the teachers who spends so many hours before, during and after school taking care of all that it takes to educate other people's kids, only to go home and hope hers are still awake and her husband remembers who she still is behind the teacher title. And the men and women who put their lives on the line to make sure you get home to your loved ones, wile it may be days before they see theirs. I think all of us need to rethink what service actually means. Those of us who try with all our heart to make you feel secure that we give a damn about you and your kids. Would or could you walk in the shoes we wear every day? Cinderella has a better chance.
Translate: there are many beauties in this article. You are rude for this comment and the ones in the earlier ones. They are exhausted and deserve respect. This is obviously a sarcasm response judging by other ones you have posted about China releasing the plague into our world so we can all suffer. Your a a horrible person.
