“You Sit On A Throne Of Lies”: 50 Of The Most Evil Packaging Designs That Were Created To Deceive People (New Pics)
You know when you buy a bag of air and someone annoyingly sneaks a few chips inside? Or when you are just trying to buy a plastic box but you end up with a handful of ribbons and beads for bracelet making? How about when you buy a sandwich and whoever made it had the audacity to stuff it full of tasty ingredients? The worst!
As ridiculous as this sounds, it seems like some companies actually think their customers are interested in excessive packaging. Either that's what they're thinking, or they would have to admit that they intentionally mislead customers and lure them into buying less than they intended...
Down below, we’ve gathered some of the most infuriating examples of companies labeling and packaging products in deceptive ways, so you can know what to look out for the next time you are at the store. Be sure to upvote the pics that grind your gears the most, and then let us know in the comments what products you have noticed that are notorious for ripping buyers off. And if you’d like to be annoyed by even more evil packaging, be sure to check out Bored Panda’s last article on the same topic right here.

I Chose The Bottle Because A Tube Wasn't Enough. This Trojan Trickery Is An Abuse Coming From A Brand With Recognition
wow that is some serious bs and one of the reasons why we way to much plastic floating around in the ocean and stuck in our landfills, shame on them
Yeah, its true that there's extra plastic, but this might be one case where it's worth it. That plastic shell gives the tube a flat bottom, which keeps projects and workspaces tidy while using it. Its easier to keep track of inside a drawer or toolbox, and it wouldn't be accidentally punctured by anything else stored with it. Super glue can be such a pain in the a*s to work with, anything that cuts down on potential glue disasters is a good thing. Also, the cardboard packaging lists the size of the tube, in oz, in the bottom left corner. You could have gotten the size tube you needed by checking that against the other options before purchasing.
Excuse me, but would you please stop being so reasonable?? How am I supposed to experience righteous anger with your common sense remarks floating around??
Load More Replies...Isn’t the amount listed on the package? Still awful design, too much plastic!
The amount will be on the package but the design aims to con you.
Load More Replies...In UK supermarkets, you get a price per 100ml /grams on the shelf end. Does this happen in the US? Helps a lot when packaging is confusing.
I don't know if all the states do, but Connecticut requires "cunsumables" to have unit pricing. Food, toiletries, household cleaners, etc for sure but I'm not sure how strict they are on items like this.
Load More Replies...This is annoying, sure - but can you imagine having a single thing of super glue in a batch that got punctured in transit? I think part of it is deceptive, but another is to give each of them a protective "bubble" surrounding the tube
So...someone couldn't read the amount listed on the "bottle" and the "tube" to compare?
Pro tip: Always read the label- it says exactly how much product there is bottom left of the packaging...
As consumers, we understand that businesses are out to make a profit. We support them by purchasing their products, but that does not make us stupid. If we’re getting ripped off or we have been misled, we are going to notice. And many people have made it their mission to call out companies who are trying to trick their customers. There is a difference between persuasive marketing and outright deception, and although inflation has affected us all, that does not make it fair for companies to practice false advertising.
This has become such an issue that the European Parliament actually conducted a study on “misleading packaging practices”. They noted that there is no legal definition of “misleading packaging practices” either on the EU or Member States levels, so they had to create their own: “any kind of product packaging that notwithstanding a cursory examination as a result of the size of the packaging, its form or design or other important elements directly related to the packaging, including as well comparisons of the product in its current state to previous packaging and to competitors’ packaging, deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer in relation to the quantity, the quality or other main characteristics of the product, and which causes or is likely to cause the average consumer to make a transactional decision that he would not have taken otherwise.”
Cup Design That Makes The Drink Look Like It Has Actual Fruit
That’s really deceptive. The cup even says Ichigo miruku (strawberry milk) as well.
Seems like it would have been easier to just go ahead and throw some fruit in it.
Yes it does. So then when you look at the packaging design, you make the assumption that "strawberry milk" means milk with strawberries in it. Simply putting a name on it is not a save. No excuse here, it's a shameless attempt to trick the consumer. (p.s.: It also says there's tapioca in it, so people might think the boba are strawberry flavored too, looking at the red on the bottom.)
Load More Replies..."Think They'll Notice?"
I nearly bought fake silk last week till I read the description (had to scroll and read about 2 phone screens down for it).
That's like telling a dude he's a chick because he has smooth skin. It just don't work that way.
The study delved into some of the most common misleading practices including: bigger packages with the same quantity at the same or a higher price; same packages with less quantity at the same price; attaching “gifts” to the package; turning metric (when weights are converted yet still reduced); wrongful or misleading information on the package; copycat packaging; and new formulas. They broke these practices down into two categories: those relating to the quantity and those relating to the quality of a product.
The EU Parliament also found that in 5 out of 13 Member States, very little to no information could be found showing that customers were aware of misleading packaging. That does not mean that the citizens really had no idea, but there were no formal complaints made or very little evidence that consumers were discussing this issue. In the countries where customers were clearly aware, there might not have been many formal complaints either. But in Lithuania, for example, the report states that, “Their awareness and concerns towards misleading packaging is reflected in internet comments and their participation in forum discussions. Furthermore, there are several private initiatives on the internet suggesting not to buy products which are pre-packed in a misleading manner.”
Insurance Wouldn't Cover Pills, Only Capsules. The Script Went From $2.73 To $56.91 Because Of That. It's Literally A Pill Shoved Into A Capsule
It’s probably the U.S. (I live there). Private companies just want to profit off insurance, and that way they can add a condition so they pay less. But pills for $2.73 is cheap (depending on prescription). With insurance copay my family’s usually cost around 6 dollars.

Yet it is the system that is providing you with all the new products and procedures developed in medicine, which America develops at our own expense ... and which you plunder from us. Every year, my mother gave me a glass of strawberry milk on my birthday. Only time I was allowed to have it. I was in a grocery as an adult, saw strawberry quick, and bought it for nostalgic reasons. It didn't taste anything like I remembered. I called my mom and asked how she made the strawberry milk. She answered, "food coloring."
Deceiving French Sandwich
There's a decent chance on this one being a manufacturing error--I once bought a pre-packaged sandwich that was about like this one, and I happened to be eating it right away, so I took it back to the counter to ask if there might have been a mistake. They said yes, it was definitely a mistake, and gave me another one that was fine.
This reminds me if the chicken burger last week- there was 1 tiny nugget in it.
Was sold a "shrimp burger" once... Opened the buns to find 4 shrimps still with shells, cocktail sauce, a leaf of iceberg lettuce, and a mealy tomato slice

So for the most part, consumers are aware that there are some products being sold in sketchy packaging out there. But what are they supposed to do about it? We should not feel like we have to be on guard before buying anything and inspect the weight listed on the package taking into consideration how much it costs and comparing that to how much the last bag we bought six months ago cost. Grocery shopping should not involve mental gymnastics.
At least in the United States, companies need to be wary of practicing false advertising because customers can pursue legal action. “If you paid for a product or service that was falsely or improperly advertised, you can hold the offending company accountable through a misleading advertising lawsuit,” the Wilshire Law Firm explains on their website. “If you successfully prove your claims, you could receive financial compensation.”
Crayola - Super Art Coloring Kit
In some countries, apparently it is. Though it's ever so simple to prevent with laws... where I live, packaging can't be more than 30% (or something like that) larger than the content - and *amazingly* packaging like in the OP is not a thing here!
Load More Replies...This could actually be good thing. Hear me out. Chances are, who ever this is for has other art stuff. Now it may be possible to keep it all inside one container. This doesn't have to be such a bad thing.
That’s true, but maybe they should have labelled it differently then... Something like, "x amount of crayons plus brings a free container for your art stuff! Yay!"
Load More Replies...I don't mind this one at all. My mom ordered one for my kids. While it seems like a lie, it's enough art supplies and the box QUICKLY fills.up with paper, crayons, pencils etc. Once you remove them from their boxes, they take up a lot more space. I'll never say "no" to extra storage for kids art/craft stuff.
I’ve raised a couple of kids. This may look deceptive, but it’s really a feature: when crayon time is over, the kids toss everything in the box, it’s fast and easy and relatively foolproof. One of my kids once brought a couple of crayons with him to draw while we were driving somewhere, no box or anything. A couple of days later I discovered the crayons had melted all over the backseat. The leather backseat of my BMW. In short: the Crayola people know what they’re doing.
it says 100 crayons. did you expect more b/c the reusable plastic bin you're going to store them in for years is larger than 100 crayons?
At least this one shows you exactly what's in it on the top of the tub. The real issue here is unnecessary packaging and waste. As another commenter points out, though, little kids might never put the things back in their little boxes again once they get them out, so having the large tub to dump them in is helpful. Kind of a good idea, actually.
Are people really not seeing that everything advertised is packaged and lining the tub for shelf display and that cardboard spacer just keeps everything in place??
All Three Packets Contain The Same Ingredients In The Same Quantity, Same Amount Of Tablets, Same Manufacturer, Three Different Prices
Yeah - it's like a comment I made on another post about tax evasion (illegal) and tax avoidance (legal but unethical). There's no doubt some sort of consumer law in many countries that makes outright deception illegal but allows "misleading" advertising (don't ask me what the difference would be - it's all rotten as far as I'm concerned)
Load More Replies...Retired nurse here. You all are getting screwed on a lot of OTC meds. Please read the ingredients list on each package. You'll see that it's usually just one medication like Tylenol dressed up with a bit of something else (Benedryl, cough syrup, etc) and priced sky high. They're counting on you not knowing about medications to take advantage of you.
Totally agree, but when you consider how many people have issues with small print, especially over 50 - and that you have to do this with EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT these days, it's just frustrating that the onus is on us to prevent ourselves from being ripped off, instead of it being illegal for them to be doing it as a matter of course.
Load More Replies...You buy the paracetamol for 25p and the non branded phenylephrine for about £1.50. Caffeine, well a cup of tea or coffee will sort that out. I never buy branded medicines. Neurophen is another rip off. Its just ibuprofen in the same dose as the 30p pack and is about £4 a pack!
So true. Acetaminophen is another example. (Tylenol)
Load More Replies...But did anyone notice that there is actual Braille on the boxes, for the blind? That is great! We don't get that here in the USA. It costs a LOT of $$$ to print Braille on regular paper made for Braille, as in a book... just think how much extra it is costing this company to set up a huge Braille printing machine as part of their packaging system? I am amazed, and grateful. Now if only they could do this for us blind people here in the USA!
I think it's mandatory in Europe. I have Italian and Dutch medicine and they both have braille on the package. Edit: I looked it up. It is indeed an European directive (2004/27/CE).
Load More Replies...I just discovered this with “sensitive teeth” toothpastes. Such a racket.
You can buy phenylephrine on its own really cheaply. That’s the main active ingredient with sinus ‘issues’.
In the US, phenylephrine is regulated more tightly than guns. Of course, I suppose that’s a low bar.
Load More Replies...I remember being shocked seeing Sudafed sold over the counter in Europe. In America that stuff is hardly used cause our methheads went a lil crazy
Nowadays Sudafed is just a brand name. It doesn't necessarily have pseudoephedrine in it. And as someone who works in a US pharmacy I can't tell you that there are more than a few people who buy it. You just have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter.

You Sit On A Throne Of Lies
that "18" marking noting how many candy bars are inside has gotten bigger on these since they first arrived in stores. Still, such a waste of cardboard.
At least it's not plastic. My cats absolutely love leftover cardboard to bite/scratch
Load More Replies...another case of people not reading how many are in the package. It is wasteful packaging, though.
I agree! I LOVE their table!!! That finish is perfect!!
Load More Replies...No wonder we get ripped off so constantly. Only an idiot would think that 18 snickers would fill the whole box. But we are triggered by the big package and our brain stops working
this IS a yard of snickers. . . this is how all jumbo sized candies are packed.
The Wilshire Law Firm explains what qualifies as false advertising as well: manipulating key terms, deceptive visual representation of the product, bait and switch (when companies pretend to be selling one good or service but end up giving the customers an inferior version), incomplete or false comparisons, and misleading product warranties or guarantees. When it comes to the consequences of false advertising, there are a few different routes consumers can take to seek justice.
For products that have been widely sold across the country resulting in a massive number of victims, class action lawsuits are usually the best way to go. Some class action lawsuits have millions or even billions of dollars at stake, and companies can be required to compensate for financial losses, to cover injuries, and more. Courts can also use a legal injunction to stop businesses from continuing their misleading marketing. Any of these cases can become very complicated, but if you feel you have been led astray or ripped off by a company, the Wilshire Law Firm recommends you seek legal counsel.
So Much Wastage Just To Make The Jar Look A Little Bigger
This happens a lot with beauty products :/ always check your packaging fellas!
It's not even about getting ripped off at this point, it's the packaging waste - especially when they falsely claim it can be recycled
Pro tip (lol) - I buy moisturizer/eye cream etc in glass jars and then use the empties to make candles. Until there is a more sustainable option, I feel like doing that at least helps a bit. Plus I usually have a few little "emergency gifts" for things like a co-workers birthday. I also enjoy leaving them with a cash tip for drivers when I've ordered Uber eats or Postmates during the holidays
Load More Replies...To be fair, a big reason to just make the packaging bigger is so that they can't be shoplifted as easily. This doesn't seem big enough to make a difference, but something to consider with other "wasted space" products
This occurs on all pots of cream ! Should be AGAINST THE LAW !!

Bamboozled
The depression on the bottom is called a “punt”. Really. It’s not always evil but it seems to be a commonly-employed trick for deceiving the customer.
It says there are 12 ounces of beads ... weigh them, if there isn't 12 oz, then get mad. Otherwise, read the packaging.
this is common so i try to make it a point to check before i purchase items in containers.
When we think of products that get away with evil packaging, bags of air and shockingly small items usually come to mind. But there are a multitude of ways companies attempt to manipulate consumers, including tricking them into believing products are healthier than they are in reality. Ellie Krieger broke down some of the ways corporations try to influence what consumers think of a product in this piece for The Washington Post, and some of them may surprise you. For example, even the shape of a bottle can influence how customers perceive the healthiness of a beverage. We tend to assume that taller, thinner bottles contain less calories than their thicker counterparts, and when a thin container has curves similar to the indent of a woman’s waist, customers are likely to view those products as healthy as well.
Desert Escape And Walmart Gluing On A Flower On This Cactus
This always makes me sad to see because it actually hurts the cactus and it's tricky to remove too
My dad brought me home a succulent from Home Depot because he was amazed by the bright teal color. Long story short, Home Depot spray paints plants and then sells them to people who don't know how photosynthesis works.
Lowes has done this too. Had a cactus from there like 15 years ago. Was amazed the bloom stayed as long as it did until I saw the glue!
I saw a bunch of these at a local store a couple years ago, big, bright, colorful strawflowers glued/affixed to various cacti and succulents. It was a weird display but-at that store at least-there wasn’t anything misleading about it, the display and plants were clearly meant to be overly bright “forever” flowers stuck on top of non-flower producing plants. It remains, however, one of the weirdest plant products I’ve ever come across. Who buys a cacti with a bright pink (blue, yellow, orange etc) strawflower on top of it?? What decor does that fit into?
This has been a thing for decades where I live (which doesn't make it OK of course).
This is extremely common. If you see a bloom on the top of a cactus, it's fake. They bloom along the sides.
Load More Replies...I don't think I have ever seen a cactus on sale with a genuine bloom on it where I live. And I live in the desert.
Load More Replies...Desert Escape by Costa Farms. It's Costa Farms. Costa is THE biggest producer of tropical/ornamental plants in the US, and the main supplier for Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart. If you've bought a plant from almost anywhere in the last five years, it's probably been produced by Costa. This is doubly true for many of the most desirable and sought after plants, some of which Costa now owns the sole rights to produce.
Big Box To Make It Seem Like There's More
Omg craft kits are the worst. If you want to get one as a gift it would be 1. Cheaper, 2. More meaningful, 3. Heartfelt, 4. Fun, to just buy all the pieces individually and print out some instructions. Same if you want it for yourself, lol
I only buy them after the holidays, late January/early February. Usually at 75%-90% off. Got niece a $125 art kit with easel. Over 500 pieces (for teens and adults) Paid $20 at Michael's in February. Try to stock up for gifts then
Load More Replies...It's not like people won't buy it in a reasonably honest container. But when things get packaged like this, folks don't expect a reasonably honest container to be honest.
THAT stuff is easy to make and package cheap also! Just stop this crappola and give people wht they are paying for.
Still Tastes Good But Looks Like It's Come From Someone's Tortured Bowels
🤣 same. This is just visually offensive, not necessarily deceptive on portions or ingredients... "mummy guts" is great for Halloween!
Load More Replies...Yes, but their music would probably be s**t
Load More Replies...Hah hah, this looks like a bad batch of Twister’s sherbet ice lollies (sherbet popsicles). They usually don’t look like someone’s twisted intestine (great name for a hard rock band)
Load More Replies...Images can also subconsciously lead customers to assume a product is healthy. Ellie explains that many companies use depictions of farms, fields, grains and produce on their products so customers will associate their food with being natural or fresh off a farm. “As I browsed the grocery store recently, I saw pictures of whole wheat still in its husk on boxes of crackers made only with refined flour; sketches of garden leaves on bags of coconut sugar, and prominent images of ripe whole fruit and vegetables on snack bars and puffs that contain more sugar than produce on the ingredient list, and the produce was in powdered form at that,” Ellie writes. “Pictures on packages can be powerful unconscious cues, connoting unprocessed, farm-fresh, natural foods that are flush with healthful properties. Very often the ingredient list tells a different story.”
I Feel Tricked, Possibly Even Bamboozled
Is this a error on the manufacturing line or do they all come with this anemic amount of m&ms?
This one is a little too much, probably just an error. I've eaten those a bunch of times and they always have a bunch of M&Ms on top.
Load More Replies...I went through a whole summer of bingeing these. This is definitely a manufacturing error

Purely Deceiving Consumers
This is just a supreme waste of plastic. Why package like this? Just why?
And who puts banana in a plastic bag? Mother Nature has provided biodegradable packaging.
Load More Replies...I just want to know where this package is from. I've never seen strawberries packaged like that
Why so much package? Earth is literally drowning in plastic, it's everywhere and we should reduce it massively!
People buy size. Double whammy here. Lots of space and bigger berries are placed in the visible positions. The spread out placement screams "elegant" & "pampered product" and minimizes the amount of product needed to fill the package. Marketing at it's best.
Load More Replies...Who would buy strawberries wrapped like this? I know that a supermarket can seem an easy shop but for fruit and veg wrapped like this?
There's no information on the label. If they're packaged by piece I'd feel ripped off. If by weight, well you should be getting what you paid for.
You are also paying for the packaging, as is the planet in this case.
Load More Replies...Interestingly enough, muted colors are another way food manufacturers try to trick consumers into believing that their products are more healthy or more natural than they actually are. Apparently, most shoppers associate paler colors with more healthy products and brighter, more vibrant color schemes with processed, artificially flavored foods. Ellie notes that in general, the less processed products will be packaged in this way, so you are likely to choose a healthier option if you pick solely based on color scheme. But companies can also trick you. One study found that a candy bar with a green calorie label was perceived as healthier than the exact same bar with a white label.
Sometimes I Like To Flip The Chips In The Store Shelves
They are packaged this way deliberately so the oversized, puffed up bag protects the chips during shipping and stocking. YOU ARE NOT BEING CHEATED!
And the "air" in the bags is actually nitrogen which keeps the chips from getting stale
Load More Replies...Hate to admit it but I am old enough to remember before this was a thing. Sure there was a bit of air in the bag, of course, but a reasonable amount, and the amount of broken chips inside is the same then as it is now. People were right pissed when it started, but kept buying them anyway . . .
Exactly. We DO understand the concept. However, the air to product ratio is gotten higher and higher. And the chip smashed to chip whole has not decreased ( the reasoning is bogus )
Load More Replies...Kinda doing people a favour, as flipping the bags helps to keep the flavouring powder more even distributed.
Aside from the very obvious, and widely reported fact that kaycee mentioned....those bags are also filled with nitrogen air to keep the product FRESH, aside from keeping the product UNDAMAGED. Every bag of chips has the weight of the bag printed on it, every price lable on the shelf under the product tells you the price per unit. Yes, it might mean you have to read something, and compare those tricky numbers, but this isn't a conspiracy to screw consumers over. It's an attempt to stop people from complaining about stale and broken chips. Unfortunately people will always find something to whine about.
Taco Pizza... But Only If You Have All Ingredients At Home. (The Picture On The Box Is Only A “Visual Serving Proposal” It Says On The Back)
Why Must You Break My Heart?
I hate that so often vegan and vegetarian food options are packaged like crazy. Makes me not wanna buy them. As well they are often packed with artificial flavours and preservatives. Rather eat a vegetable pan or a lentil steak then this.
Most likely in either Germany, Switzerland or Austria. And I agree such a rip off. Will avoid buying any product from this brand either if I ever come across it.
Load More Replies...This might actually be illegal. Aren't there EU laws about decieving marketing and packaging that would come into play with this?
This product is either from Germany or Switzerland (I recognize it) and yes, you are right about that
Load More Replies...Yet another way companies are out to trick us is through “greenwashing”. Greenwashing is when companies exaggerate how environmentally friendly a product or their entire company is to generate more sales. It is trendy to care about the environment now, which is great, but it is just one more way companies can increase their products. Buzz words like “sustainable”, “eco”, “clean”, “green”, “responsible” and many more are now plastered all over products to appeal to customers’ consciences, but these claims are often unsubstantiated. As the Changing Markets Foundation wrote in a piece where they called out big brands for greenwashing, “Coca-Cola has spent millions of pounds in advertising telling consumers that some of its bottles are made out of 25% marine plastic while failing to mention that it is the world’s biggest plastic polluter.”

I'm hoping this one was just an honest mistake in the production line and that not all of them are like this
This one is definitely a mistake, I've never seen that before from this company lol.
Load More Replies...I don’t think this is not so much a case of misleading packaging as something going wrong during manufacturing and not being picked up by QA.
Well, that's just a mistake in the factory line, that's not actually how the product is supposed to be, so it doesn't fit here
No, no, no. This was an error. I buy this brand all of the time, and I have never had this happen, hahaha. In this case, consider yourself lucky. Drop a email to that company, and they are more than happy to replace your product and offer coupons too.
Same. Pop two of these in the microwave, pour yourself a grape pop and switch on chip n sales rescue rangers and you’ll know what being a latch key kid in the early 90’s meant.
Load More Replies...To be fair, that's just a mistake in manufacturing not a common thing that is meant to be deceiving.
I can vouch for this being unusual. I eat this brand all the time, never once had that happen.
Coca-Cola is only one example of a laundry list of corporations getting away with greenwashing including IKEA, TESCO, Unilever, and Kim Kardashian’s clothing brand SKIMS. George Harding-Rolls, campaign manager at Changing Markets Foundations, says on the topic, “Our latest investigation exposes a litany of misleading and mendacious claims from household names consumers should be able to trust. This is just the tip of the iceberg and it is of crucial importance that regulators take this issue seriously. The industry is happy to gloat its green credentials with little substance on the one hand, while continuing to perpetuate the plastic crisis on the other. We are calling out greenwashing so the world can see that voluntary action has led to a market saturated with false claims. We must embrace systemic solutions, such as absolute reductions in plastic packaging and mandatory deposit return systems."
Nice, Big Bottle Of Herbs Of Prov...
This is so wrong! I wish consumers would all simply refuse to buy these products once they discover the deception.
As wrong as that is, I bet the bottles stack together really nicely. Probably helps shipping

Remember to keep these photos in mind when doing your weekly shop, so you can do your best not to get ripped off. Keep upvoting the pics that annoy you the most, and then let us know in the comments if you have any experience with falsely advertised products.
The “New Look” Packaging Is Just 20% Less Product For The Same Price
All HBA products and most food manufacturers are doing this and have been for quite a while.
It's been going on for decades, in a two step cycle. 1) Decrease the amount of the product while keeping the prices the same. 2) Increase the price. It's a sneaky way to continuously inflate profits, while causing less outrage among consumers.

At the dollar store, it's the exact same packaging, but there's only 0.8oz of product in there for $1. It's wasteful. Dollar stores have larger profit margins than any other retailer; and they pay and treat their employees worse than just about anywhere. I knew a Dollar Store manager. Poor woman worked 70+ hours a week on salary for $18,000 a year.

Vitamin A is listed in the ingredients. However it might be 0.001% of the whole amount of the item. This could well be totally the correct amount. But it is still going to be rounded down to 0%.
The 0% in the nutrition facts panel is a percentage of the recommended daily value, not a percentage of the total product.
Load More Replies...I think vitamin A palmitate is largely sourced from palm oil too, which is a whole other problem.
Funfetti Candy Canes. Unwrapped (Left) vs. Wrapped (Right)
my aunt got me and my sister these for Christmas one year and had the same wrapping not sure what the flavor was but i was just a plain white candy cane

I don't think any hockey player could refuse a fight if they only got this much of the Stanley Cup, amirite?
So, Which Is It, Campbell's - 30% Or 40% Bigger?
Hmmm.... 30% bigger than 10,75oz is only 14oz. The 40% bigger is actually correct this time. Someone didn't math right and they needed to fix it????
Whenever things say "bigger" I'm like... bigger than what? They don't say, so they can say whatever they want.
This Sewing Thread Box
I mean, needles to say, they do it constantly. They’re always sew manipulative.
Load More Replies...This is so you can see all the colors. If they were buried in the middle you could not.
You could still see all of the colours in a smaller box if they moved the label. This is just another example of using deceptive packaging to give an impression of better value.

The one time i got close to something like this was when there was that thing to put needles in shaped like a cube in the middle
These Were Like $1.50 More Than The Other Oreos Just Because Of The Pride Packaging (No It’s Not Going To Any Charity)
This is like the skittles packaging. Basically they said that there were giving up all their color for pride, so they were just gray skittles. Ofc they were more expensive 🙄
And you can’t even find the right flavor. (Apparently, I’ve never tried them but I did like how they employed lgbtq+ artists for packaging)
Load More Replies...Don't forget donating to lgbtphobic politicians!
Load More Replies...Not that I’m defending corporate greed, but a lot of companies actually charge more for stuff like this because they’re smaller runs and technically cost them more to produce. Mind you, a company like this it’s probably costing pennies more. Lego is actually a good example for cost - they actually can lose money on smaller runs if they don’t charge a fuckton (as they do). It’s actually part of the reason the Lego Dimensions stuff is no longer produced, and why they find creative ways to use oddball pieces.
It also appears the messages on the packaging seem to support the idea that this is packaged as a gift to someone. I don't see the problem here.
Load More Replies...This isn't trying to be deceptive, this is being marketed as a gift to give to someone in the LGBTQ community, you can read the messages. This isn't about the Oreos, this is about marketing as a gift. This one gets an ok from me.

Oatmeal With A Generous Amount Of Blueberries
Ok, someone confirm plz, but the pack seems to say: "With blueberry" not "with blueberries" 😂 so they ain't lying - technically
But in Russian language we normally use only singular nouns for berries - just strawberry, not strawberries. Just blueberry - not blueberries, etc. As I have noticed, plural for berries are used only in common language by a really small amount of people. But your assumption was nice, I liked it 😂

Particularly tragic as the founder was a Quaker and would have detested dishonest practices like this.
I once worked in candy factory . Candies were put into small plastic bag, and then into paper box large enough to fit 4 bags. Also, packaging was very aesthetically pleasing, it looked like luxurious item. It was pretty expensive, too. But candies tasted like s**t.
Cadbury is name only now. It is a shadow of what it was. If they are going to kill the product, you may as well kill the name too.
Bought Cheap Headphones. The Cable Advertised vs. The Cable Given
Yes, this is bogus - but the cable is for charging the headphone, right? They appear to be Bluetooth. So it’s a tiny cable, but you don’t have to keep your head 3” from a USB port to listen to music.
Those 2-3 inch USB cables are worthless. Why bother? Just give me a 4 foot cord and charge me a couple bucks more.
Did the ad state how long the cable was? I look for the number of inches/cm/m before I buy any cable.

Pizza And Beer Tonigh
Actually looks like frozen pepperoni (s) slid to one side of box. Place the loose ones back on the 'void' side and it wouldn't be too bad. This product gets a pass.
You are absolutely right. Coincidentally I had that yesterday and I have purchased it before. I never saw anything like that. And I m confident that the person that uploaded this photo is the one that is trying to deceive us .
Load More Replies...Looks like it all just slid to one side. Try and keep your pizzas flat during transit.
This happens from the pizza being out on its side, the pepperoni just falls to one side because of a thing called gravity. Whenever I've bought a frozen pizza all the toppings end up on one side and have to be redistributed, this isn't intent at all.
The pepperoni just dropped to one side because of how it was stored. There's clearly enough on there, it just needs to be rearranged.
Pricey Too
Hey this is the second time I see the bottle of cream in this post. (See earlier upvoted posts). It must be a quite irritating bottle of cream.
But, consider this: if the package were smaller, then the text would be harder to read, and the container may be harder to open. I.e. there're visual and tactile ergonomic considerations that go into the design of the packaging. If on the other hand, the manufacturer sells the amount of product commensurate with the volume of the packaging sized for visual and tactile usability, customers may be put-off by the price. I'm not defending misleading marketing practices, but there're always other considerations to take into account when trying to figure out why things are the way they are.
I Paid Way Too Much To Be Bamboozled Like This
The poster could most likely not afford it if that tin is full. The stuff run s about $ 800 per kilogram by my estimation. (Converting from imperial in my head)
Tha'ts true - still not a reason to make the container unnecessarily big.
Load More Replies...If you know about saffron you know this is probably exactly what they paid for. As Daniel said, saffron is SUPER expensive and so delicious.
You kidding? Saffron is one of the most expensive things you can buy per weight. Period.
True, but normally it is sold in a little glass vial or something else transparent.
Load More Replies...If this would have been packaged just to house the saffron, it would be too small to properly merchandize and too easy to steal.
There are saffron packages that are teeny tiny to reflect the actual amount. They just attach them to a large cardboard so you can put in product texts and it's not so easy to stuff in your pocket.
Load More Replies...Saffron is harvested from a flower. Each flower has 3 stigmas, and that's what saffron is. While US grown saffron can be had for as little as $30 a kilogram, it's widely considered to be a poor imitation of the real thing often being mixed with fillers and added coloring. Real saffron, which comes primarily from Iran (though it's also grown in France, italy and Spain) is priced at $900-$1500 a kilo for more mainstream offerings, though high quality saffron can cost as much as $10,000 per kilogram.
If you know anything about saffron, had that tin been completely full, it would have cost $10,000 USD
Saffron is like $12 billion dollars an ounce so this should be expected

Same company as the croissant above. Guess I'd not buy their cr*p products!
So you would say you "can't get no........satisfaction?....No?.....No?"
actually, except the palm oil, those are quite good, especially for it price, just it is bad luck with this particular one filling

I buy these too! Especially for my 88y/o mom who hardly wants to eat anything but loves these cherry/vanilla cream croissants. I prefer apricot jam and really never had an empty one. Just a bit less filling sometimes.

Load More Replies...There needs to be air space in the container to be able to shake the powder out. If it was filled near the top you wouldn't be able to get much out.
I just don't see the point in this. They would save more money by using a smaller container (if that's how much they want to fill it with) and they could just decrease the price a little to balance that and still make a profit. Weird.

Forced... Most of the time it is a culture thing. Like being "forced" to mow the lawn or take the leafs in some cultures is normal (and not in others), children helping out in activities that "put food on the table" is normal in some cultures. Nowadays this is branded as child labor by the west (even though it was also part of their history) and partially seen as such by other parts of the world. Just don't expect it to change in a day. Yes, you can boycott those farmers and their buyers, but that could mean that you condemn that laboring child to remain in poverty, with parents who can't sleep because they don't know how they will feed their kids the next day.

That doesn't mean they're made from scratch, that just means they're made in house from premade ingredients that are shipped in, often, frozen.
Anything made in a factory is by definition not homemade (unless mom had a huge kitchen and lots of help)

The Company Is Actually "Tiny Cheese"
It has the weight on the packaging. I assume that the weight printed is the weight of the actual cheese? Deceptive, but they probably excuse it as protecting the cheese during shipping.
I was going to say that of all the entries on this list, this one isn't that deceptive. The picture looks like the cheeses are in wrapped in cheese paper. The cheese paper allows the cheese to breath while still retaining proper moisture so I'm assuming being packaged in a paper box with the loose filling is to protect the cheese in transport while still allowing it to remain in its best condition

I hate buying fruit juice. There's an entire aisle of "juice" and you have to read every label with a magnifying glass to find the 10 bottles that say they have juice in them. If you. Then read closer to find the 2 that aren't a drop of juice in a bottle of corn syrup and water.
Not trying to defend it just wanna point out that it never said 5% ALOE juice, just 5% JUICE-
Minimum fruit juice content is 5%, most likely the maximum content as well.

This Bluetooth USB Adapter With Fake Antenna
Wow. You’d think the manufacturer would be proud that their transmitter/receiver doesn’t need an antenna.
It depends how old this dongle is (and this one looks like one of the early models). In the late 90's/early 00's, a lot of "cool" gadgets had stubby little antennas (Sony Ericsson's mobile phones come to mind). I could see a manufacterer adding a fake one just to make the thing looks cooler.
Load More Replies...They probably did some marketing without the antenna and got feedback saying something like they don't think it was as good without an external antenna. So they just put an antenna on it for aesthetics. Kinda like how a truly random play list could play two songs in a row from the same album but people don't think that's random so they have to program it not to do that, which isn't random.
I’m guessing it was the cheapest housing and it just happened to include an antenna that wasn’t needed by the electronics.

It would have to be. The labels go on after the product is packaged. Looks like this one was diverted to the wrong place after it was filled.
Load More Replies...Fake. If you zoom in and look at the rim in the back there are remnants from the sauce. It's either a can in a can like someone else suggested or, what it looks like to me is the sauce was used, can rinsed out, vegetable poured in. The absence of liquid near the top of the can looks like some of the water was lost while pouring.
This looks fake to me. If you zoom in and look all the way to the left you'll see what looks like a can inside the sauce can.

By the wording on the package I think you were supposed to keep it together, the rope ball is so you carry it like an accessory and not just a mini cable hanging off your keys
The 'wooden ball wrapped in a ton of Paracord' is a knot called monkey fist and I guess it was supposed to be the keychain. So this is a clear case of face-palm.
I agree that it was supposed to remain in a ball. Otherwise, it couldn't be a keychain.
That's a monkey's paw knot. They're supposed to have filler in the middle when they're big and decorative like that. That's how they hold their shape. I've made some myself, and even I fill them. The Way Paper Towel Sizes Are Advertised
Yeah. Seeing this everywhere these days. Never understand their magic conversion tables. I just go by size and price.
I look at how many sheets per roll then times that by how many rolls. Still have to be careful because some of the companies will count their "select a size" half sheet as a full sheet.
Helpful hint: for cleaning, use the cheapest paper towels you can. Better towels = more lint. It's what makes them more absorbent.
Which paper towels to clean up dog whiz off the hardwood?....I had to use 3x,4x as many of the el cheapo roll to clean up the area, so ended up going with the thick stuff because it does absorb (Bounty), though pricey and seems like a waste to throw away the 6 sheets of paper towels. Better than 20+ of the cheap used, and still the floor is WET (not just damp)...

2 Pack Has Less Tape Than 1 Standard Roll
This is not bad. Or at least we can't assume it is, because we're not given the price. Sometimes you might want two small rolls. Besides, you always have to look carefully at tape dimensions because they come in many different lengths and widths.
Yeah, as in this case, it looks like that the single roll is 1", while the double is 3/4". One must be careful to compare oranges to oranges, and not apples.

All fresh foods, be it chips or nuts, have a pocket of nitrogen gas. The nitrogen displaces oxygen thereby keeping the food fresher longer. Once opened oxygen gets back in and triggers the oxidation process that makes the food go stale.
Nice theory, but removing the oxygen doesn't require more room than the nuts do.

Wanna trade? lol At least it says "from bean to bar" - from vanilla bean to bar.
White chocolate isn't chocolate. Literally it's not. It has none of the good stuff in it. Look it up.
Huh I've had those before and they've had peppermint. Guess that one just got missed or something. Or they changed things 🙄
For Namesake
I Was Really Looking Forward To This
come on , cant be the first time you bought a frozen pizza and ended up ripped off ,they all the same
Not true. Home Run Inn or Screaming Sicilian brands, for example, look exactly as good as they are advertised. And they are very good.
Load More Replies...OMG, I have that EXACT same pizza picture on the left, on a puzzle I just bought a couple weeks ago! It's sitting half-finished on my table, right now! Wow, that is an eye opener!
That's crazy! Here's a pic of my puzzle! think you'll have to copy/paste the link. I'm sorry. I don't know how to share pics in BP comments. If someone could tell me how to do it right, I'd really appreciate it!! https://photos.app.goo.gl/2FcZcuxXk2T4BL38A

I mean this would last me an eternity. But I wouldn't even notice the smaller wheel as I would never open this.
Fixed your downvote. And though I disagree with you, I respect your right to have an opinion of delicious delicious liquorice. PEOPLE: DON’T POINTLESSLY DOWNVOTE!!!
Load More Replies...I remember when liquorice wheels were sold by weight. No pre-packaging, just get as many as you want in paper bag... Oh, good old times... And hazelnuts in chocolate or caramel. Dried pineapple...
Couscous
Well, they usually tell you these things are sold by Weight, not by volume.
This picture is a little "extra" to exaggerate the point. That top blue portion of the box is actually the top of the box folded up to make the box look taller.
I Bought A Curd Cheese "Dairy Station" The Other Day And Inside - A Lie
This is tvorog - a type of quark traditional to Russia. It's flavored (vanilla according to packaging) and covered in chocolate, a popular snack/dessert. If your country has stores catering to Russian or Eastern European tastes, you can find these there.

I don't understand why it's fake. The LEDs let you know there's power so the charging will work. Am I missing something ?
Yes. It should display the actual voltage as that is an indicator for the status of your cars´ alternator.
Load More Replies...I've never seen a USB adapter that did anything more than charge your devices. All of mine just lit up to show it had a good connection.
I think the 12.5 is the watts. Which would not change. Now I think this device is good.
I believe this device is making you think that it's giving the readout of 12.5 volts which is the typical voltage for an automobile.

Pork floss and chili ice cream? Who eats pork floss and chili ice cream? How is it even a thing?
Rousong or yuk sung or bak hu, also known as meat floss, is a dried meat product with a light and fluffy texture similar to coarse cotton, originating from China. Rousong is used as a topping for many foods, such as congee, tofu, rice, and savory soy milk.
Regardless of what pork floss is or what it's supposed to look like, I can't imagine it's supposed to look like pieces of burlap bag shredded up and sprinkled over your ice cream.
I remember seeing bacon sundaes advertised (in the US) at the height of the put-bacon-on-everything craze a while back; maybe whatever country this is is having a similar fad for pork floss? (Which I've also never heard of--I kinda hope someone from this place comes along and fills us in.)
Can Of Great Value “Pringles” Is A Third Empty When Opened
Everything Great Value has gone to s**t. It used to be comparable to name brands. Not anymore.
That is actually i stop buying Pringles, i love them but they are a waste of money, i actually buy a white brand of chips similar to Lays but hás a lot more quantity and taste a loooot better.
They used to have more in there then that. Guess it's their way of cutting costs?
Where's that lady who keeps defending air in packaging to "protect it during shipping" in all the other posts... She's gone REAL quiet here
Actually that's not air in a bag of chips. If it was they would already be stale when you get them. Also, while it does offer some protection that is not the main purpose. The bags have nitrogen gass blown into them before they are sealed. The nitrogen displaces the oxygen so your chips are not oxidizing and going stale while they wait to be sold.
Load More Replies...I had this happen to me in an actual Pringles container. It was a larger size one but was 1/3 empty at opening. And yes there were some crumbs but not enough to account for missing chips.

The one on the package with the bite doesn't have a face on it. Don't think they're supposed to
I Mean - Technically Right
Grape juice is often added to 100% juice or other fruit products to sweeten them. Fruit sugar is different than processed white sugar or corn syrup.
spero vivamente ci fossero gli effettivi 800 mirtilli i deeply hope there were actually 800 blueberries
Some of these are i believe a manufacturer "oopsy daisies" instead that the products are given defective things all the time.
It's sad because a lot of it is adding more plastic or waste to make the product look bigger and better but it's worse for our planet and our dreams .
Yeah especially since a lot of people are making the world a better environment and then now you see this and it’s really not

Agreed!! Companies take advantage of the wide varieties consumers are offered for a lot of products. They anticipate the consumer to feel overwhelmed when making a choice, and put large attention grabbing packaging on their product. They expect us to be crushed. They made a sale and someone may like their product enough to keep with it. Especially if it's a first time buy.

The truth is that there's abundance of food on earth and there is no need for large amount work, money, or time to make that food. So logically no one should be poor or hungry. But human and their satanity!!! Have other ideas. Pride, envy, greed, hate, discrimination,..... And this is not just on food, but on everything like education and how expensive to go college on almost all countries. Or how expensive medical treatments is "just die if you don't have money" Everything just wants you to fu%+ and stay down
People really ought to start returning these to the shops and demand their money back en masse. That would soon stop it.
That would be a wonderful thing but technically there is nothing wrong with the product. That makes it almost impossible to return. It's so frustrating!

Dairy companies accepted the challenge and proudly demonstrated their nefarious techniques. You will see products such as cream and cheese using the smallest font possible to write "analog". The worst example is the goo)(I wouldn't call it chease) company that simply writes "Original" on the package.
Great point, companies will always do this, it's up to us to be vigilant. However, if governments would crack down on this egregious packaging, it would be transformative to the environment.
