my turtle does that too. it doesnt neccesarily mean they are in pain but usually they do that when they want to be put down

The Kids named him Buzz.. I was working in the driveway and saw what we call a box turtle in the flower bed, digging with her back legs. She was there for an hour or so and didn't mind me walking up to look. she laid 3 egg, buried them and left. I google the info on the eggs and i read that most turtle eggs don't make it because skunks, and other animals will smell the eggs, dig them up and eat them. I made a ox out of hardware wire and staked it down over the hole. I set my alarm for 59 days (i think it was that) and came with lawn chair on day 60. I removed the box and carefully moved some dirt around and sure enough the first one was making its way up to the surface, this is him. the other two took around an hour to dig out. I saw several comments on holding him on his back but i wasn't. If you look you can see the palm of my hand kinda wrapped around the edge of his shell. I was holding him in an up rite position, as though he was standing on his hind legs for the picture.
