To celebrate World Rat Day, we've decided to show you that pet rats can be the cutest animals ever. Just look at that baby rat snuggling the tiny teddy bear!
Sadly, these pet rodents don't get as much love as they deserve. They are often mistaken as gross and filthy animals, in part due to their historic role in spreading the plague. Domestic rats, however, groom themselves just as much as cats do. Rats are also incredible at learning tricks quickly. For example, they can recognize their own names, roll over or play catch just like dogs. They are also very affectionate with other rats and their favorite humans, too!
As a cute rat owner myself, I know for certain that these pets are just as smart as they are cute. In fact, they're definitely my favorite pet animal in the world!
The world could always use more cutest rat photos, so don't hesitate to submit them to our list. Don't forget to vote for your favorite cute rat pictures as well!

I agree! Precious little tiny creature doesn't even know how cute he is!
Load More Replies...Aww. I happen to love rats as pets. Cleaner and nicer than some humans.

I just love rats so cute dont understand why people are afraid off them
Load More Replies...Awww I expect that would take place if I had more rats. I only have one :'(
What a cute picture!! Its also in the perfect setting ....standing in the light upon the window sill! Like a story book picture!
He’s anticipating something really good! Looks like you caught him mid fists clenched and jumping!
Aww so cute but pretty unclean! He's in a teacup or something, right?
this rat is my mood - cute at first glance, but so sassy at the second
awwwwwwwww my rat sleeps in that position too :) unfortunetely without a teddy bear! :(
Reminds me of the kid from "the witches" who gets turned into a rat lol. :)
Partyy! haha it's really creative and funny do make little parties for your rat ;) I do! You only have to make sure the food is OK for him/her. :)
No it's a blackberry withI don't-know-what to drink... cocoa or something. Or maybe tea. I don't know!
Load More Replies...hahahah love him. My rat does that a lot too. The difference is she does it on HER own bed, not on mine :)
Tied up, Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded and two out.".I just can't watch!!!"
Yeah much more than cute, or even adorable :)
Load More Replies...I'm kidding. It's washing and cleaning it's fur!
Load More Replies...Whas he/she your rat? Poor little guy. I hope my rat will live forever I'll never be ready to say goodbye! :'(
Load More Replies...Plain cute. Charming doesn't really match.....
Load More Replies...Wow beautiful rat. If you put up lots uf stuff like this and persuade your rat to get in, it'll probably love it! Well, at least mine does ;D
Oh wow that reminds me of when my current rat whas little like this guy :) she was still a baby then :)
You should change your nail designer and go to the rat´s one ;-)))
I think all rats are nosy. All of mine have been, for instance! ;)
I did that too my rat when she was still a baby... She's too big now!

So cute! Looks like he/she is singing to the beautiful morning,
You can buy a box full of packing peanuts for you're pet rodents at Doctors Foster & Smith online pet store.
Load More Replies...Looks just like my rattie Shoelace! (A younger version though.) She and her sister Waffle are such jumping beans!
I have a pregnant rat right now so there will be a lot of these little ones! :)
This picture does NOT belong to you. It was taken by E. Borger
take another guess my friend!
Load More Replies...don't bathe rats. its unnecessary and bad for the rat. it washes away the natural oils, and will make them stink more.
Maybe he/she had something bad/hazardous on his/her fur.
Load More Replies...Why did you put a frowns face? Rats love the water. I actually have to bathe mine this and it's perfectly normal.
Load More Replies...this reminds me of living in a trailer, working as a naturalist, in the Coast Range redwood forest--and opening a drawer to find such a cute wild pack rat...who had eaten holes in my hand-knit wool socks !. We would live-trap and release such rats--but would have to take them miles away, maybe all the way to the beach, or they would come right back...
yep--not-a-rat !! Really very different--and much larger, and the naked tail is prehensil (which I had one of those, the tail, I mean). Totally unrelated, a marsupial, after all. So cute with the bow ! (Opossums love to eat ticks, so help against Lyme Disease)
It's just a gene thing with rats. Some have red eyes, some have black. I've never owned a red-eyed rat, personally. These look like Hooded Fawn rats to me, or something similar.
cuter when the fur comes in, etc. I am glad our infants are born with their eyes open and their ears fully formed--also cuter when born with hair
Rodent babies are born underdeveloped and basically fetuses
Load More Replies...Also not a rat. But hamsters are cute too. Did they use an algorithm to compile these pictures?
rats like to keep themselves clean. I bet wild rats also groom themselves, but at home, out of the sight of humans.
She looks like a little lady in her hat. Am I seeing things or is her nails painted?
It has a nut or something 😍😛 It’s so cute and it’s very happy!
One of my rats often sleeps on her side. She has about 4 beds but the floor is fine....
Load More Replies......oh I just got that they might be dead 😦😔😟
Load More Replies...Rat/hamster balls are not healthy for the animal and causes them stress.
Mostly bad for their spines. There is wheels schaped like a dish that keeps their spine in a better position. But yea those balls are bad
Load More Replies...rat p**s ! I have heard they actually don't have a bladder, but, thinking back, I had a pet rat with an open cage who roamed the house at will, and did not leave messes, but went back to a corner of her cage. The dude who told me that rats were bladderless also insists the Civil War wasn't fought over slavery. All animals with permanent homes kept their place clean and relatively odor-free to not attract predators--and are able to wait, if need be, to go outside to do their business. Thus, they are easy to house-break--cats easiest, dogs next, then rabbits, etc. Ferrets have such a high metabolism and are easily distracted, so a cage-free pet ferret needs a litterbox in every room. This isn't a "cute" picture, but I give it 20 points
Rats do not have a gallbladder. The urinary bladder has nothing to do with it. So rats have a urine bladder.
Load More Replies...was this rat attraced by the sweet smell of liquor, climbed in, got drunk, and passed out? Sweet dreams, party rat. 25 points.
that is a big rat with a nice pelt. Though it might be more PC to call it a coat.
So cute. Never had a pet rat but they look fun. The oldies in this nursing home will love them. Thanks for showing them with us.
They are by far my favorite. I've had dogs and cats for 45 years. Now, ratties are my passion!
Load More Replies...rats are smart and adorable. I was dreaming about them for 20years and now I have 5 cute boys :)
They all are so cute! I have 2 now, Luna and Lena. I love them and they are part of my family, along with 6 dogs, 2 cats and a cockatiel!
I had two rats in my childhood and took them everywhere. Great pets.
I have 2 rats, and they're amazing! Just don't understand how people can hate such cute, beautiful, intelligent, clean and loving animals!
And also, they didn't spread the plague for Gods sake!
Load More Replies...I miss my two guys so much:'( especially their little paws on my finger like holding hands with me. RIP
darling! great pics (and they DO make nice pets--just change their litter often)--bright, intelligent animals who are often underrated.
