Water Drop Cake
Or... You know... An actual water drop. Which is impressive.
Load More Replies...Its not mochi or a cake, its agar (konnyaku). Mochi is a glutinous rice cake made from pounded glutinous flour
Load More Replies...How do you EAT this? Is it like CLEAR GELATINE??? Not very appealing...
it has a very chewy sweet texture and it melts in your mouth, it goes very well with the sand looking thing which is called kinako, which has a very sweet and sticky texture once mixed with a liquid, and then you also use soy sauce which mildens the sweetness , its a very unique and appetizing combination. I know, its hard to believe xD

Sad? It's food! It's meant to be enjoyed for the appearance and the taste!
Load More Replies...Flower Desserts
You can make them yourself with eatable flowers and jelly :D
Load More Replies...These remind me of the gelatin one can find in Mexico, though I'm not sure if these use the same technique (not real flowers)
What is this called? I love to bake, I just might attempt to make this.
Lots of flowers are edible. Some are sweet and others I've tried have been peppery. Never eat one if you are not sure it's ok.
Load More Replies...I love Pansies, so this is very appealing or attractive to EAT.
Cute Macarons
Bunny Bread
HaHa I was one of those!! Did not quite look like these!
Load More Replies...These are actually mooncakes sold by Minamoto Kitchoan. They have a yuzu shiroan (kinda like a lemony flavored bean paste) filling
Candy Cats Sleeping Under A Candy Japanese Table
Yes! I've never experienced one, even in Japan, because I was there during warm parts of the year. But I wish they sold them in the US...I love the concept!
Load More Replies...Bear Drink
the spoon has a face so its like a spoon eating a panda a poor innocent panda
Are you sure that the panda was innocent? I heard that he was a convicted felon...
Load More Replies......the bears seem happy, not drowning......I will drink this.
Japanese Glass Sweets
It's probably kanten... a jelly that's traditionally used in Japanese sweets, so it's soft
Simply amazing. Tip my hat to the inventor who came up with the idea!
They're normal hard candies, made to look like glass. Edible.
Load More Replies...Fortune Cat Rice Crackers
Orange Cake
Cherry Blossom Paw Treats
I need this. Like right now. I wouldn't eat it though, only gaze at the adorableness.
Nut-hugging Bear Cookies
What a riot. But I'm surprised they aren't holding bears - or kittens - judging from some of the other desserts in the lineup.
Yokohama’s Hedgehog Dumplings
These look both delightful delicious and gloriously greasy! Not to mention, darn adorable!!!
Totoro Tarts
Goldfish Jelly

hmmm fish candy and pot plant leaves! no wonder why they are so creative! lmao
Cat Parfaits
Most japanese homes in cities are small, so usually if they have a pet (that isn't a fish or hamster or something) it will be a cat.
Load More Replies...Cute Cookies
Matcha Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Love the punchy color combo - but the straberries look a little dessicated and unappealing.
its japanese tea thats green and tastes amazing as sweets
Load More Replies...Fried Maple Leaves
Woah! I have never heard of this before - will definitely check it out when I go back this fall :D
Are they just shaped like maple leaves, or are there real maple leaves in batter.
The symbol of Canada is the Maple Leaf, but there are Maple trees of different types all over the world. The Japanese Maple leaf is more smaller and more elegant, in my opinion.
Load More Replies...Seen this before and it seems like an interesting idea in theory, but not so much in practice.
Sweet Art
these look like a portuguese candy, called "doce fino", typical from Algarve. :))
That may well be the origin, same as kasutera/castella.

Flower

Kitty Chasing Fish Latte Art
Little Monkey
Totoro Cake
Very well executed cake. By Jadebutterfly? Is She Japanese in the US or living in Japan?
Mini Aquarium Jellies
Sakura Jelly
This is not made by Japanese but a Malaysian chinese for the Royal Selangor Pewter challenge. She won first prize. Google up Terri Ng and Hunger Hunger blogspot.
Very elegant. I don't particularly care for Asian jellied sweets, but I might take a few tastes.
Sakura Flowers
The flavour is probably next to imperceptible and they are almost certainly not made of sugar, which would be way too sweet for the local taste. The Japanese abhor strong flavours, so a very subtle taste is perfect for them. Japanese cuisine allows you to focus on presentation and texture, both factors very neglected in the West.
Load More Replies...Bear
November Wagashi
Apple Jam Jelly
Japanese Sweets
Very cute yet a bit weird. Eating little creatures dressed as Japanese people...
This Is Actually A Sparkling Desert. Hard On The Outside, Liquid On The Inside
Typo, Dessert, remeber you always want seconds on Dessert that's why there's two s's.

Japanese Cha-no-yu Cake

Sweet Jewels
Kutusita Nyanko Cookies
Fish
Wagashi Ajisai
Wagashi Ajisai ; Ajisai means hydrangea, this wagashi is made with kanten jelly cubes and white bean paste.
Can someone from Japan (or elsewhere!) describe what these are? Ice cream with gelatin squares on top?
Fresh Green Leaf
Chick-shaped Pudding
Japanese Traditional Sweets
Cherry Blossom Rice Cakes
Japanese Crepe With Ice Cream
Japanese Sweets
Black Melon Bread
how is it racist? "black" people are the only ones with afros yet the guy on the label is obviously asian?
Nah we have tribes in the Philippines with afro hair..
Load More Replies...Even if the person on the packaging was black, so what? It's still not racist. It's not saying or implying that there's anything wrong with being black or having an afro...so now drawing a cartoon of a perfectly normal black person is somehow racist? Get outta here with that mess! If anything, this should be seen as a good thing. There needs to be more non-stereotypical portrayals such as this of people of color in advertising. You can't complain about the lack of diversity in advertising but pitch a fit when someone actually uses a person of color on their packaging. Either you want it or you don't.
Nope.... The guy on the package is Asian...NOT black....besides...black people aren't the ONLY ones with afros.... my step-don had a pretty big one for a while and he's white.

Matcha Cakes
These are absolutely beautiful and must involve a great deal of skill. I'm not the sort of person who takes photos of my food, but I would definitely make an exception for these! I'd probably feel too guilty to eat most of them...their little faces!
most of the transparent sweets are konnyaku (agar). It's pretty common in Singapore, and you can buy a pack of agar powder in most supermarkets - just dissolve in hot water, add flavour (orange juice for example) and pour into moulds and let it cool and solidify in the fridge
There are several places here in the USA, depends on where you live. In Nyc there are a few places. Just over the gw bridge in New Jersey is a store dedicated to stuff like this. Boston has porters square. Around Washington, D.C. Has a place. Pretty much some place that has a china town most likely have a store that has sweets like this. I can give you store names and addresses if I know what part of the country you are in. And don't forget, most places deliver
Load More Replies...Wow most of these were almost too pretty to eat!!! So are the sweets represented here indicative of what kinda of sweets you can expect to be readily available in Japan? How cool would it be if they had something like a tour that would take you around the city to taste all the various sweets? Or maybe a set up in something like a convention center or even a nice outdoor venue where sweets vendors could set up booths and people could pay a set price to go through and taste something from each booth. Kinda similar to a wine tasting but with these beautiful lovely sweets instead! Maybe they already do such a thing, I wouldn't know but I would LOVE to go to something like that.
After watching these cute and creative Japanese sweets, it made me feel like going to Japan and experience it first hand XD
