I've never understood the flag worship stuff. Flags just seem ridiculous to me. I'm retired from 5he military. Flags used as tools, like signaling Flags, great. Country, state, organization Flags, meh

There was a school on fire in the US and the firemen were photographed saving the flag. I made a comment to the effect why are they wasting time saving a piece of cloth when the school is ablaze right behind them. There were complaints about my comment and it was removed. WOW!

Yeah, the last time saluting the flag was required in my country, we had coupled up with our friends from germany and caused havoc all across Europe.

Dear Sir, a flag is not a "piece of cloth". Try telling that to those men who raised it on Mt. Suribachi. Look it up if you are not familiar with history.

Saluting a symbol has always been weird. Especially when you and your brethren have been forcibly massively oppressed by the ideals of a certain symbol, with no other way out for much of that nation’s history, even modern systems haven’t stopped absolutely screwing you and your families over in ways that other races don’t experience, and they just cannot support and salute those ideals any longer when those ideals are there to shut them up and keep them shoved in a cupboard (see: black NFL players kneeling during the US national anthem and white people who are just living the ignorant good life are absolutely furious about it) and the people who are not oppressed by that system think you’re just a spoiled little traitor for it while disregarding your history. Can we stop saluting the flag, that’s weird. Too many Americans can’t even distinguish the flag of Liberia from their own. Salute real people who work hard to make real ideas work. Edit: I’m Canadian and white and have had 3 martinis and I may be getting into white saviour territory, I’m sorry guys and Yy, this started off as one quick sentence, I’m getting off BP now 😂 (Canada sucks majorly with our native peoples too I know, we are not very nice and in some cases absolute monsters, contrary to popular belief)

Exactly. Respect elders until they prove otherwise. (Dementia and other cognitive issues notwithstanding, there are different ways to deal with those) Respecting elders when they say stupid s**t just because they’re elders is an awful idea. I mean treat older people with kindness and respect, but as soon as they start spouting old fashioned racist/sexist/outdated bullshit, don’t put up with that. Tell those particular people to grow up. And tell the cool tolerant elders you know that they’re awesome and we appreciate them 👏
