27 People Share The Most Disturbing Anonymous Notes That Someone Left For Them
InterviewSimilar to stumbling upon a mystery like in a Nancy Drew book, finding frightening anonymous letters is downright unsettling. The startling revelation that someone has been watching you can send shivers down your spine, whether it's in the form of a note left in your locker, tucked into your shopping cart, or hidden under your door. The absence of information about the sender might be frustrating, leaving you wondering who they are and what they want from you. It's similar to attempting to put together a puzzle without all the components.
The article also includes an exclusive interview with a clinical and forensic psychologist Elizabeth Rapti, so make sure to keep on reading.
That said, we've put together a list of eerie messages that people have received and subsequently shared online.

Creepy Note Left By Burglar
The wholesome robber: coming June in theaters near you!!
Load More Replies...I thought it was only mildly frightening until that. Then... ice cold
Load More Replies...Reminds me of a time my boy scout camp was secretly "raided" by a rival troop. They did not take anything, but there was a note pinned to our (hoisted) flag: "This flag has just been stolen. We just were to lazy to take it with us...". no small feat, seeing that there actually had been a guard all the time.
A Stalker's Note Left On A Hiking Trail
Should had taken that to the police and tried to get fingerprints of who might had left it and then press charges and get a restraining order against them.
I agree about taking it to the police. No way would they try to get prints off it though.
Load More Replies...that wears cologne. Yeah, maybe I would want to meet this squirrel who wears cologne...
Load More Replies...I sincerely hope that girl got the not so she can stop going into the woods! FFS.
But it's like f**k, I enjoy walking in the woods. It's like women can't do anything, we can't go f*****g running or enjoy nature without f*****g creeps and the possibility of being murdered, assaulted or raped.
Load More Replies...it's no one else's business but he still writes a note for all to see. They are going to read it whether they are the person or not
Time to walk a different trail and call the police. If he says "people will find this creepy" then yeah, it's creepy!
I Will Just Keep Walking Then
Plot twist: the man in the window posted this note so people would stay in place reading it long enough for him to get a good photo.
Uhm... I think that's not a plot twist but exactly what's happening.
Load More Replies...I gotta admit, no matter how unpopular my opinion my be, I think thats funny
This is a piece of art by the English/Glaswegian artist David Shrigley. He does these very clever lo-fi pieces. Have a look... https://davidshrigley.com/photography
Steal the note, stop the cycle. You can't stop him, but you can stop ruining folks' day.
This is how to trick an idiot into staying under the spotlight long enough
Bored Panda had the opportunity to interview Elizabeth Rapti, a clinical and forensic psychologist, about the topic of anonymous messages and notes that are perceived as disturbing or unsettling. When asked about what motivates people to send such messages, the psychologist shared her professional opinion.
"As a psychologist, I believe that for some people, the feeling of hate can fill an inner gap," Elizabeth began. "Sometimes hate through anonymity can be an easy emotion to pull off if a person is vulnerable and finds it hard to express their emotions."
Rapti went on to explain that anonymous messages are often linked to hate speech and are associated with the isolation of someone. "This is what people who purposefully communicate through anonymous messaging are all about," she concluded.
Found My Tires Slashed, And This Note On My Car
I'd say there's a very good chance the perp in this case is a cop.
Just WTF are you supposed to do or learn from this? Pointless vengeance; just tiresome.
Found When Returning From Work Today
It's an ex. She's more of the pity crazy opposed to scary crazy. Regardless, I installed a deadbolt and had my locks changed.
I had an ex who would turn up late at night kicking off,he followed me. U would come out of the post office,he would be sat there on a bench looking at me with a smirk. Followed me to a leisure centre when my friend and I took our boys swimming. He was staring through the windows from outside. I have a heap of examples but my anxiety is already ellovated. Was 25 at the time. Terrified me. The police managed to work with council housing and got me a move after he assaulted me again and was threatening to slit my throat and watch me bleed. Never underestimate an obsessed ex
I'm glad you're okay and safe <3
Load More Replies...I wish more people understood this. Pity crazy is the reason young women feel pressured to be nice to guys that creep them out, and then end up with a stalker for years that traumatizes them.
Load More Replies...I'd leave the note with an added note. "Nope don't miss you at all. Apparently you miss me. Here's two bananas. One to eat."
Well I Found This On My Car Last Night
Your BP name fits right in ith this post of creepy notes
Load More Replies...write on it "yes it did creep me out, please do not contact me again" and put it back on your windshield next day.
idk i think he might just be incredibly socially awkward. yes it's a red flag, but could be worse. i think he just wasnt taught how to talk to anyone
This note is creepy but I've been approached while working before so that doesn't freak me out. Secret admirers aren't as cute or fun as they used to be. Secret admirers need to already be friends with the person not a strangers. Strangers are creepy.
We also wanted to know about the psychological impact of receiving a creepy anonymous note, so the psychologist went on to explain, "Hate speech can have profound effects on the psychological state of adolescents and young adults; however, not all young people are affected in the same way. The effects depend on various factors, such as their previous experiences, mental resilience, and their supportive environment," she shared before continuing on to explain.
"Among other things, they may experience low self-esteem, intense loneliness or isolation, suffer from sleep disorders, increased anxiety, and feelings of fear and insecurity. Besides, we have seen that in cases where the teenager is exposed to anonymous hate speech for a long period of time, it has been found that he can present depressive symptoms."

I Received A Terrifying Scary Note In My Mailbox
looks like they wrote this with their non-dominant hand to hide their handwriting.
See top comment by censorshipsucks: "looks like they wrote this with their non-dominant hand to hide their handwriting."
Load More Replies...It is surprising how many robbers select a place just because they find an unlocked door or open garage. I even heard that they feel as if they are invited to come in because of the unlocked door. sooooo creepy. Lock your doors!
There was a serial killer, Richard Trenton Chase, who only killed people with their doors unlocked. He told detectives that unlocked doors were an invitation to come in. (He also suffered from mental illness, one that made him believe he needed to drink blood to remove a poison in his body)

Attacked or worse. That what they meant. A child or someone with dyslexia who didn't get help.

....I have the strange urge to mail a clown doll and vague note to a stranger now.

When asked how one can manage their emotions in such a situation, Rapti emphasized the importance of a support system. "The role of relatives and friends of the victim is important, they are called upon to create a safe space, showing full acceptance and empathy for the situation of the victim, taking particular care not to further incriminate him."
Elizabeth also suggested that a psychologist could be helpful in managing the incident and enhancing the mental resilience of the individual, developing their assertiveness and self-esteem. "At the same time, the psychologist helps the person receiving hate speech to explore a possible supportive context," she added.
I Found This Note In My Coat Sleeve While I Was Leaving Work. I Don’t Have Any Work Enemies… Or So I Thought
When I leave a note like this I at least sign my name. It really means nothing without it.
Did you by chance just take something from your children (if you have any I don't mean to assume) cuz children can be nasty sometimes.
This would cause an inquiry and disciplinary process in my country.
THAT person has the problem; fortunately you don't (unless they escalate). Most likely envy that you have a better position than them. Not your fault!
Obviously someone close enough to be in your personal space... or a pro pickpocket. Hope it's a friend f*****g with you.
...Or it's someone who knows where OP's coat is when it's not on them.

Found This Stapled To A Tree Outside My House
The first sentence is nice but the commute comment turns it back into a horror film.
And the fact it is near her house. Sounds like she was followed after leaving public transit. If it's a carpool buddy, I'm driving solo.
Load More Replies...the man needs to touch grass, but it's nice. he clearly is not mentally healthy tho i hope everything works out okay
this is not nearly as creepy as all of the other notes but please. Please do not post notes on trees for everyone to see. It's okay if you get rejected because it makes you more humble. I should know. I stopped asking people :)
This Ominous Note That Was Left On My Desk At Work
Okay, I am going to try to make sense of this note. Maybe the leg freezer refers to a mini fridge, which is usually on the floor around the height of your leg (or shin), and it is in fact full. This note is to warn you not to use it.
I'm hoping there is a typo(I guess wripo would be a better term since it's written down) somewhere in this message.
Load More Replies...im sorry wtf is a leg freezer and where can i get one mine are always hot
The psychologist also shared her professional opinion about effective ways for law enforcement agencies to investigate cases involving anonymous notes and messages.
"First of all, for the police to go so far as to examine anonymous messages, it means that there has been a complaint by the victim of a serious criminal offense. From there, the police under normal circumstances collect the evidence to proceed with the internal investigation procedures of each case," she explained.
Someone’s Been Leaving Notes On My Car At Work, This Is The Most Recent And In Depth One Yet. Nope
Who am I... I'm the one who's never had sex. Who am I... I'm the one stalking you. Who am I... I'm the one you need a restraining order for.
I am the one ... who has several restraining orders in several different states.
I am the one that WOULD disappoint you...that's not creepy at all
Creepy Letter Shoved In Mailbox
No words in English, Scotch, or Trukese could describe my feelings of disgust right now. Does anyone here speak Khuzdul?
Does he not have parents? If so, show the note! Talk to the parents asap! If not, that's a whole different can of worms.
This Anonymous Note Was Just Left In My Mailbox
stay trapped in this reality ... you know, the reality of me not talking to you and you staying away from me.
How weirdly this look like text was added later in photoshop! Maybe it the pen they use, that shade of blue or something, or the light. It’s uncanny!
She went on to share that text messages are important evidence in a criminal case and cell phone data is usually collected by the police. In order to identify the perpetrators, an analysis of the electronic traces, which result from the investigation of the electronic messages that have been sent to the victim, is carried out with special technological equipment of the latest technology.
"This technological equipment cannot be perceived by the anonymous user," Rapti stated. "The analysis of the electronic traces can provide significant information about the location of the sender, the time the messages were sent, and the device used to send them. Additionally, the content of the messages can also provide valuable insights into the identity of the sender."
Overall, Rapti highlighted the importance of law enforcement agencies taking anonymous notes and messages seriously and utilizing the latest technological equipment to investigate them thoroughly.
This Note That Someone Put On My Math Teachers Door
LOL seriously, this borders between a sarcastic 'oooo, so edgy' and interviews in the news along the lines of 'at the time we thought it was more or less harmless'

My Neighbor Came Home To This Note On Her Door
so a creepy illiterate male stalker, probably in his 50s, guessing from the handwriting style.
Definitely creepy illiterate stalker but I'm curious as to how the handwriting style makes you think 50s. Not saying you're wrong I'm just wondering how you know
Load More Replies..."you look like you don't want to be spoken to" sooooo let's go with that and bugger off
According to the psychologist, sending anonymous messages is a malicious and criminalized act that is driven by a hostile feeling towards the recipient or a group.
"The reasons someone sends anonymous messages are in no way benevolent and this is also the reason for hiding information. A hostile feeling towards another person or group consisting of malice, hatred, and a desire to harm or even destroy the object of hatred. Normally the nature of the content is often racist, sexist, or homophobic. Usually, the anonymous messages express threats to the lives of others, or to their relatives, while serious material damage and damage to relatives and shops can be caused, in the form of threats beyond the messages that someone can receive."
Creepy Note On My Door
No, you should be a little more forthright, not menacing and anonymous.
Load More Replies...this is why in SA we have 6ft walls with razorwire, electric fence, and big dogs, so people will f*****g die if they try trespass. This thing of americans with no front walls and the lawn exposed to the street... in a country with 2 guns for every person? it's insane.
Yes, your description of your country makes it sound SO much better and more inviting than America.

Looks like someone is having some mental health issues... delusions of grandeur?
Rapti also noted that, "The cases of anonymous messages have been greatly reduced given that technologies have now developed internet user protection databases, which either prevent such malicious actions, or reject messages originating from anonymous senders."
"Raising awareness of the fact that anonymous messages are considered as a criminal act is important, provided that people quite often hide themselves behind an anonymous message. We need to acknowledge that this act has consequences and those who are sending anonymous messages need to consider that before they take that action. Besides, I would suggest that the victims should seek assistance from psychologists and law enforcement agencies regarding that issue," Elizabeth said lastly.
Stalker Leaving Notes On My Car Signed By “Buffalo Bill” (Silence Of The Lambs Reference)
Ok. Creepy af especially the Buffalo Bill part, but they have pretty handwriting. Still would never respond to something like that!
I agree-handwriting is magnificent, its a shame some creep got it
Load More Replies...in case you can't read it:"i don't want to be rude or anything because i don't know if you have someone already..but i think you're absolutely gorgeous! since the first time i layed eyes on you i been f****d up bout chu!👀....i use to live in your building but i dont anymore due to the fire, im the one that happened to lol...but this is my way of extending an invitation I WOULD LOVE to go out to dinner a like 6 flags whatever. im really interested in spending time with you & i hope you feel the same <3-le rico (i think) aka buffalo bill"
Thanks! I suck at reading cursive so this really helped
Load More Replies...That is 100% feminine handwriting, so it's extra weird they refer to themselves as Buffalo Bill.... it's either a woman write it to f**k with someone's head or an extremely effeminate man (who would quite match the whole Buffalo Bill thing and be extra scary)
No guy, even writing to a girl/woman they like, will dot their i with a heart. This is all female.
This Note Taped To The Back Of A Stop Sign In My Neighborhood
Rantings of a looney or a clue in one of those cicada treasure hunts? Mwhahah!
I used to work in law enforcement for a decade (don't hate me!) we would have letters and signs like this brought in by people now and then. This is imho a person with untreated schizophrenia. The references to movies having a connection with reality and the government and speaking to a famous or public figure directly. I've seen a few of these and it breaks my heart more than scares me.
Oh honey, you don't have to believe every thought that crosses your mind. Honest.
is that fox mulder having a psychotic episode I spy? i hope not. psychotic episode fox was a jerk
This Note Someone Left On My Mom's Car
Maybe the recipient has a cute butt, and the writer is waiting to be noticed? Maybe the writer has no more faith in cute butt because the recipient hasn't noticed them? It sounds to me to be a warning of escalation.
maybe .... he doesn't trust cute people ... but the person who is reading is the fool because she only trusts cute people ... and he might be a better guy but not as handsome? Yeah, I know. It's a reach.
No more trust in cute. That likely means he expected to be noticed for his appearance. That failed, so he's going to step up the game.
This Note I Found In My Front Yard
'Try to live as liberal(?) and AIDful you can. TREAT those who NEED the help not the selfish. BLESS THE EARTH AND OTHERS AROUND you AND BLESSINGS WILL FALL INTO YOUR PATH. Love your park(?)' Weird thing to randomly leave someone... Possibly religious, but if it is it would probably do the opposite of evangelising.
This honestly looks like something my downstairs neighbor (untreated schizophrenic) would leave about. It sucks people aren't always able to get help. He's mostly harmless, but dang do we avoid him.
what time of religion is this im a christian but ive never heard this type of thing or at least the way they put it
can anyone else see a screaming/melting face in the background?
Someone Came Into My Work And Left Me This Note. It Had A Random Debit Card Number On The Back, But I Won’t Post That. What Do You Guys Think?
Oh, honey, when I was 8, I too was a were/shifter who could change into any animal there is XD ...at least in my imagination.
I absolutely hate it when Vampires are trying to kill me. Eat more garlic ... I can at least help with the first issue.
Creepy Hand Written Note Found On A Piece Of Debris In Roadside Ditch Next To An Abandoned House
ThANk (probably meant think?) about your family + kids. LEAVE A Time. ANd I meet you here. It has a box labeled "time" with space for someone to put a time.
Receiving secret admirer notes after age 15 or so is generally deeply disturbing. If you have a crush on someone and are curious to know if they might be interested, and if you are in a public place where the other person won't feel trapped or cornered, please take a deep breath and say hello. Watching from afar and sending a note will not make a woman feel flattered, it will make her feel unsafe.
fascinating. Seems like it can be broken down into roughly 4 categories: incels who do not have the balls to approach a girl they fancy; psychopaths/schizophrenics who need to be hospitalised; burglars; and road rage incidents.
When my daughter was in college she was in a bad accident where she rolled an SUV to avoid a dresser that had fallen off a truck in the middle of the road. Seriously injured. Girlfriend in the car too with out of state parents so I was taking care of both. I went to get her stuff out of the car. Someone left a witch stuffed toy on the console. All the clothes and belongings were stolen. Suitcases and everything. A nurse at the hospital stold her cell phone and used it to call her contacts to tell them my daughter was on drugs. Not true. All this and more on a major freeway in Texas. She had taken the wrong road to get from my house to the state fair.
Oh, my heart... that must have been a terrifying weight on your mind while trying to cope with aftermath of an accident. That nurse should be imprisoned and license revoked. Hope both young people are now thriving and healed.

I got a dozen roses, on my ex and I's anniversary, all the heads of the roses was cut off. She wrote, "Miss you, wish this was you". Yeah. Nope.
Can see why they are an ex... who spends so much money on beauty only to destroy it, with malice?
Load More Replies...Some of these notes reminded me of a thought I have a lot. I wish that it was acceptable for people to complement each other casually without it being creepy. You pick up a coffee from the barista and say casually, "Your hair looks great," or you pay for your groceries and tell the cashier, "That's an epic beard!" I don't want anything from you, and don't want to get to know you. I just think that you look good. You must have put some effort into that, and it shows! But, you get guys who walk into a store, see the cashier right by the door, and ask, "How young do you date?" (Yes, I saw that happen at a PetSmart.) People like that make it so people just saying that you look good is creepy.
It's totally acceptable to give little compliments like that to people. If you are anxious about giving off the wrong vibe, maybe say it with a smile at the time you are about to be walking away, so they know you are just being friendly and not expecting anything.
Load More Replies...All of these reiterate the need for people to learn to defend themselves. (And some people to consider moving.)
Yes. I'd add 2 more: situational awareness... and the bone-deep resolve to fight for your right to live.
