Reminds me of a time my boy scout camp was secretly "raided" by a rival troop. They did not take anything, but there was a note pinned to our (hoisted) flag: "This flag has just been stolen. Bored Panda had the opportunity to interview Elizabeth Rapti, a clinical and forensic psychologist, about the topic of anonymous messages and notes that are perceived as disturbing or unsettling. When asked about what motivates people to send such messages, the psychologist shared her professional opinion.
"As a psychologist, I believe that for some people, the feeling of hate can fill an inner gap," Elizabeth began. "Sometimes hate through anonymity can be an easy emotion to pull off if a person is vulnerable and finds it hard to express their emotions."
Rapti went on to explain that anonymous messages are often linked to hate speech and are associated with the isolation of someone. "This is what people who purposefully communicate through anonymous messaging are all about," she concluded.

This note is creepy but I've been approached while working before so that doesn't freak me out. Secret admirers aren't as cute or fun as they used to be. Secret admirers need to already be friends with the person not a strangers. Strangers are creepy.
We also wanted to know about the psychological impact of receiving a creepy anonymous note, so the psychologist went on to explain, "Hate speech can have profound effects on the psychological state of adolescents and young adults; however, not all young people are affected in the same way. The effects depend on various factors, such as their previous experiences, mental resilience, and their supportive environment," she shared before continuing on to explain.
"Among other things, they may experience low self-esteem, intense loneliness or isolation, suffer from sleep disorders, increased anxiety, and feelings of fear and insecurity. Besides, we have seen that in cases where the teenager is exposed to anonymous hate speech for a long period of time, it has been found that he can present depressive symptoms."

"The role of relatives and friends of the victim is important, they are called upon to create a safe space, showing full acceptance and empathy for the situation of the victim, taking particular care not to further incriminate him."
Elizabeth also suggested that a psychologist could be helpful in managing the incident and enhancing the mental resilience of the individual, developing their assertiveness and self-esteem. "At the same time, the psychologist helps the person receiving hate speech to explore a possible supportive context," she added.

She went on to share that text messages are important evidence in a criminal case and cell phone data is usually collected by the police. In order to identify the perpetrators, an analysis of the electronic traces, which result from the investigation of the electronic messages that have been sent to the victim, is carried out with special technological equipment of the latest technology.
"This technological equipment cannot be perceived by the anonymous user," Rapti stated. "The analysis of the electronic traces can provide significant information about the location of the sender, the time the messages were sent, and the device used to send them. Additionally, the content of the messages can also provide valuable insights into the identity of the sender."
Overall, Rapti highlighted the importance of law enforcement agencies taking anonymous notes and messages seriously and utilizing the latest technological equipment to investigate them thoroughly.

I used to work in law enforcement for a decade (don't hate me!) we would have letters and signs like this brought in by people now and then. This is imho a person with untreated schizophrenia. The references to movies having a connection with reality and the government and speaking to a famous or public figure directly. I've seen a few of these and it breaks my heart more than scares me.

If you have a crush on someone and are curious to know if they might be interested, and if you are in a public place where the other person won't feel trapped or cornered, please take a deep breath and say hello. Watching from afar and sending a note will not make a woman feel flattered, it will make her feel unsafe.

When my daughter was in college she was in a bad accident where she rolled an SUV to avoid a dresser that had fallen off a truck in the middle of the road. Seriously injured. Girlfriend in the car too with out of state parents so I was taking care of both. I went to get her stuff out of the car. Someone left a witch stuffed toy on the console. All the clothes and belongings were stolen. Suitcases and everything. A nurse at the hospital stold her cell phone and used it to call her contacts to tell them my daughter was on drugs. Not true. All this and more on a major freeway in Texas. She had taken the wrong road to get from my house to the state fair.

Some of these notes reminded me of a thought I have a lot. I wish that it was acceptable for people to complement each other casually without it being creepy. You pick up a coffee from the barista and say casually, "Your hair looks great," or you pay for your groceries and tell the cashier, "That's an epic beard!" I don't want anything from you, and don't want to get to know you. I just think that you look good. You must have put some effort into that, and it shows! But, you get guys who walk into a store, see the cashier right by the door, and ask, "How young do you date?" (Yes, I saw that happen at a PetSmart.) People like that make it so people just saying that you look good is creepy.

Girlfriend in the car too with out of state parents so I was taking care of both. I went to get her stuff out of the car. Someone left a witch stuffed toy on the console. All the clothes and belongings were stolen. Suitcases and everything. A nurse at the hospital stold her cell phone and used it to call her contacts to tell them my daughter was on drugs. Not true. All this and more on a major freeway in Texas. She had taken the wrong road to get from my house to the state fair.

Oh, my heart... that must have been a terrifying weight on your mind while trying to cope with aftermath of an accident. That nurse should be imprisoned and license revoked. Hope both young people are now thriving and healed.

Bowie Knife. On my pillow. As I was sleeping. Crazy ex jimmied my locks, took all my money and food, killed my bird, then left hunting knife on my pillow. I'm deaf, so it was an especially hateful attempt to scare me. Pfffft.

Some of these notes reminded me of a thought I have a lot. I wish that it was acceptable for people to complement each other casually without it being creepy. You pick up a coffee from the barista and say casually, "Your hair looks great," or you pay for your groceries and tell the cashier, "That's an epic beard!" I don't want anything from you, and don't want to get to know you. I just think that you look good. You must have put some effort into that, and it shows! But, you get guys who walk into a store, see the cashier right by the door, and ask, "How young do you date?" (Yes, I saw that happen at a PetSmart.) People like that make it so people just saying that you look good is creepy.

It's totally acceptable to give little compliments like that to people. If you are anxious about giving off the wrong vibe, maybe say it with a smile at the time you are about to be walking away, so they know you are just being friendly and not expecting anything.
