My local library desperately needs this. I can't believe the number of people sitting around watching videos on their phones with the volume full blast, no earphones, in the middle of a g.d. library.
When I was little it was understood that whispers only in the library. Now it's whatever goes.
Seriously I would be tempted tobe loud just to see it change colors but if only it turned rainbow colors as a reward every 5-10min of not going up on volumes to reward the quiet curious and loud folks and even more rewards every different hours or so for example disco colors every half an hour for a silent disco party ahaha
My son is on the autism spectrum, and had difficulty understanding what we meant by an “inside voice,” and we happened to find a sound-activated stoplight at a neighbor’s yard sale that worked in a similar manner (with an adjustable “red light” level), and it helped him learn.
At my school library, after school and during the last period of the day (which most people have free), that would be on red. At least there is a place at my school that has very few people, so it's quiet. And you're allowed to eat in there. You can't eat in the library, which is a big drawback.
We had those in my school when I was about 8 to 11 maybe. No one ever really cared about them sadly. Luckily, I don't think any of us kids got any major issues with our hearing later on. Nevertheless , it is a great idea, just wish people would care enough to make less noise.
Am gonna get one for my house... Kids drive me nuts... Even when its time to read.
That is quite awesome. However, I would probably change the lines so they can relate to the other users viewpoint: a) Green: "You may live to see another day", b) Orange: "You are starting to get on my nerves", c) Red: "I do hope you left a Last Will and Testament."

Ours was the eyebrow of our school librarian. When it was about to fly off her forehead, we knew it was time to settle down...or else! LOL

Such a great idea/service! My library, the main branch had a huge collection of phonograph records of all genres. They also had these old fashioned record players and old fashioned head phones (think 78rpm, thick Bakelite and cloth cords). I spent hours in that room when I was growing up. I haven't been in that room for years, but next time I'm at the main branch, I'm going to check it out. I bet they have 21st century equipment these days!

I would guess not, I think they would just wrap new books whenever one is taken!

The books for tall people are in a used book store in my town. The whole store is very old and used to be a department store. Three levels of interesting nooks, twists, and turns. Anyone that comes through Denton Texas HAS to make at stop at the purple book store on the town square!!

I've always thought that things like small appliances and other goodies that you want to use, but know you'll never touch more than once a year, those need to be available in libraries.
My ex-wife is a muralist, a very gifted painter. She made the children's reading room at the Destin Library (Destin, FL) into an underwater wonderland. should you ever find yourself there you should check it out. Something else about the library, because Destin is a tourist destination they have a section where anyone at all can take a book or leave a book.
I'm a bookbinder, and this post made me happy (except the one who turned discarded books into seatings... Can't stand people who "destroy" books in a way that you can't read them anymore, lol...)
Sooo want to incorporate some of those ideas into my own home/library! Love every second of this.

Libraries are not businesses and you should seriously consider seeing a therapist. Spending your time trolling social media sites all day long is neither healthy nor normal.
