Big or small, every change matters when making our planet a better place. And this goes beyond the individual, too. Luckily, as the mindset of consumers shifts towards eco-friendly thinking, more and more businesses are implementing "green" innovations in the way they go about things. From cigarette butt-recycling postal pouches to simple product packaging, Bored Panda has compiled a list of pics, proving that we, the Earth, really do have a bright future.

Carlsberg Using Glue To Make Six Packs Instead Of Plastic
We have these in Denmark. It's a little tiny dot of some special glue, which took them a long time and effort to develop. It holds the six cans tightly together and you have to twist it in a certain way to separate. After the glue doesn't stick to anything anymore. It saves 150 tons of plastic a year in Denmark alone. Also we have a system where you get paid for returning empty bottles and cans. A lot of homeless people make a living collecting them, and also they don't end up polluting nature.

This Japanese Toilet Refills Through A Sink In The Top So You Can Rinse Your Hands And Re-Use The Water
Grey water reuse is awesome, although this would be ergonomically a bit awkward to use. I've seen these at urinals as well where it would work much better.
There is no law of nature that states that the tank must be situated behind the toilet, it could be placed to the side while emptying in the right spot. All that is needed is a small change in the design.
Load More Replies...the first time I saw this I wondered why this is not adapted everywhere else.
The idea is fantastic. It would also reduce the cost of building a bathroom because you do not need separate plumbing for the washbasin.
Load More Replies...My aunt who lives in Tokyo has this too! Loved using it in the mornings.
This is a typical Japanese toilet; many people have them in their homes. Japanese never have a bathtub or shower in the same room as the toilet; to them, that custom is filthy and barbaric. So these water-recycling sinks save space in the little toilet room. I went to Japan in the early '90s with a few friends; we stayed at the home of a lady in Tokyo. She had one of these toilet /sink combinations. She also had a toilet paper holder that played a Beethoven melody when you pulled on the tissue! :-)
I want this installed in my mini bathroom (have two), it's both practical and ecological, also saves some space.
I've seen these in tiny houses. This would work well for small spaces.
Load More Replies...We have these at my Doctors bathroom In Mill Park in Australia.... One day an older lady asked me if I washed my hands in the toilet, I said no, only wash my hands in the basin on top of the toilet, she thinks the water comes up from the bowl to the tap in the basin, that's why she refuses to use it... God Bless Her..
You can buy these in Winnipeg, Canada too. OR you can convert an existing toilet with a product called Sink Positive.
Everyone would have to wash their hands to refill the toilets. I see WAY TOO MANY people leave a restroom without even stopping at the sink. So gross! And people are incredible messy in public restrooms. It's not their homes and they don't have to clean it so they are free to make as mush mess as they want to. This would be great in homes or schools . Would make those stall door knobs a lot cleaner!
My friends Mum has her water outlet pipe for the washing machine, hooked up to empty into the cistern. Obviously, it only really works if you do a lot of washing (she does) but not so helpful if you're living alone and only do one wash a week. Always thought it was a good idea though
OMG I had this idea about 30 years ago, knew I should have patented it!
The cistern would still need to fill from a mains supply because washing your hands wouldn't come close to proving enough water for a flush
In my home we do something similar, we wash our hands in a bucket using the water coming out of the shower head (not the fixed type head so popular in the US, the movable one) and flush the toilet with that. Same with the water from the washing machine.
Is anyone else bother by the electrical outlet by the toilet bowl. Zap!
I hope people are using SOAP and not just "rinsing" -- rinsing does very little to combat germs.
I think soap will make the rubber/ silicone parts in the tank break down and will have to be replaced often. That's why you never put toilet cleaner in the tank.
Load More Replies...I have wanted one of these since I went to japan in 2003. They are sooooo expensive to get in the US. Why aren't they installed everywhere?!
Oh and apparantly a do it yourself kit for a shower that filters and reuses the water during one shower session so you only use x liters of water per session regardless of how long you shower.
There is a very simple way to reuse your shower water: put a large(ish) plastic tub in the shower and stand in it. At the same time as you collect water, you also give your feet a good soaking, softening the hard skin. Then use the water to flush your toilet.
Load More Replies...Many people would be turned off by this, thinking the water to wash your hands was coming from the disposal water in the toilet. I don't see this product catching on.
Well, it's true that there are foolish or cognitively challenged, but statistically, not very many would really think that.
Load More Replies...That would be hard to reach. Why not move the sink a bit aside and have a hose or a syphon to drain the water inside the toilet tank?
What would be unsanitary about it? The water coming into the sink is the same. Draining through the toilet certainly causes no issues.
Load More Replies...The water to wash your hands is coming from the ground and is sanitary. It then goes into the toilet tank where it is used to flush.

My local authority in London started to replace all their sodium street lights with LED lights to save them money. 3 months later they had to re-site all the LED street lights, they were so bright that they were keeping residents awake. Load More Replies...A lot of great ideas here! The straw thing gets me every time though. Why do we need straws? Is it really that difficult to drink with out one? I get why kids need them or when you are on the go, but sitting in a restaurant?
There are some disabilities that straws can help with when drinking and, for me, I get allergic reactions that make my lips swell badly and a lot of drinks sting on contact. At those times I do need straws. Though when it happens I'm very unlikely to be visiting a restaurant and terrifying the other diners!
Load More Replies...Very cool, only one problem with some of them - energy. Sometimes the energy used to recycle creates more pollution than not recycling. This is of corse not saying recycling is bad!
This is why we need to invest more heavily in clean energy sources, like solar, wind, geothermal, etc. Honestly, the sun produces all the energy we need. If we can figure out more efficient and more earth-friendly solutions for batteries, we'd be set.
Load More Replies...Such amazing ideas, I wish more corporations would use many of these ideas like "plastic" cups made from starch or straws made from avocado seeds etc. The amount of plastic companies produce is astounding. Consumers can do so much to do there part but of businesses continue the practices they do now I don't see that there will be a huge difference.

We are going in the right direction with these, it will take time to get where we need to be. HOWEVER food allergies are a thing, celiac is a thing (not really an allergy) just touching something made out of whatever it is you are allergic to, like the cups, cutlery, straws, could be deadly to someone. We need to get thinking again on some of these products. I like where they are headed, they need to get there a little faster so we don't kill some unsuspecting person who's allergic to corn that accidentally picks up that fork made of corn
When you want to think you are doing the right thing by using a paper straw, just think "Will this offset the factory that made it?" Answer: No.
Some of these are great, but when you've got allergies you can't use the alternatives. What plant starch is used - my partner is violently allergic to corn. The allergic to avocado, what do I do if the only straws available are mad with avocado (and yes, I need a straw). Plastic alternatives are awesome, but there are some things where it's the best option.

Recycling isn't free, and most cities don't even actually do it. You put your items in the blue bin and it still goes to the dump. Changing how we consume things is really the only choice here if we care to make changes that make a difference.

I love all these ideas! They are so creative. I think schools should have contests for children beginning in grade school to see who can come up with the most creative eco-friendly ideas . They should work in teams and give out awards for the top three ideas and runners up. Then each class should work on putting the best ideas(s) into action as a class project. It's good to instill these ideas early so that children grow up with a belief that they can make a difference instead of waiting for someone else to do it.
