Watching two guys on cctv practising their moves with kendo sticks. It was a train station, 8pm, bored.
They were practising feints, moves, finishers.
I remote in to the PA system "Use the Force, Luke!"
Kendo guys pause. Then return to their practice.
"Do or do not! There is no try!"
Okay, now I have them. They can't see the camera. They investigate the surrounds of the station where they're sitting. "There I am not!"
They find the ticketing machine. Investigate it. "In there, I do not exist!" Now they're looking in the trees, up every pole. I'm ten kilometers away laughing uproriously.
Finally, they see a camera on a pole "Found me you have! A great Jedi you will become!"

My father had a unique and effective method of punishment, and I've thanked him for it at every opportunity.
If we misbehaved, the default punishment was no TV or computer privileges for a week. This could be anything from name-calling to lying to refusing to walk the dog. A week without entertainment.
But here's the cool part. We would be absolved of our crimes if we created some work of art for him. He'd accept drawings, or songs, or even dance routines, as long as they weren't half-a**ed. They all started out terrible, but over time all of us kids developed a real interest in our endeavors and went on to become pretty damn decent. I've been going to school on a piano scholarship for two years and my sister is a talented ballet dancer.
But the best part is that my dad saved all the work we did over the years and has folders and folders of paintings and drawings along with hours of videotaped performances. My mom says he goes through his collection many times a year.
Thanks, dad.

It’s really something silly, and it was only one of many things that lead to the realization. I had slept in and missed saying goodbye when he left for work. I called to tell him to have a good day and to tease him about not giving me a goodbye kiss. 10 minutes later he walked through the door, gave me a kiss, and then left for work again. He was always doing sweet and playful things like that, and in that moment I realize I didn’t want anyone else. Within weeks we were engaged, and 5 months later we were married. We celebrated 14yrs last month.

My wife's birthday is 2 weeks apart from my mom's. Before this past year my mom had never been to Europe before. My wife was turning 30 and my mom turning 60. Instead of planning her own 30th birthday trip, she instead planned a trip for the two of us to take my mom on a trip to Europe for her 60th birthday. It was such an incredibly selfless thing to do and it was a trip of a lifetime for all of us.
