In the broadest sense it could be viewed as inbreeding, but the fact is that because there is next to no diversity in the community gene pool it could be viewed that way. A county health department nurse explained it to me when I began to question the number of Amish we were transporting to the U of M hospital in Ann Arbor. She mentioned that there was sometimes only 6-7 families in each community (broader families) and that with no influx of outside individuals that meant that some things were beginning to manifest within the communities. The hospital was studying these "illnesses" to determine if any were reversible as the kids were having deafness or eyesight issues among other things. The Mennonite communities are much the same as the Amish. It's great that the mom got away with that.

When Halo first came out, I was a young angry angsty hormonal teen girl whose mom had just married a strange man with 3 teenage sons and moved us all into the same house. I suddenly had 3 stepbrothers I barely knew under the same roof. I was having a Bad Time™️. But one stepbrother asked me if I wanted to play Halo with him one day. The two of us ended up playing Halo 1 and 2 all the way through together. The other older stepbrother played Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 on PS2 with me and we both ended up good enough to do songs on Expert mode together. We actually mildly damaged the living room floor with our stomping hahaha. The youngest stepbrother played GTA (San Andreas I think?) with me (and got it taken away when his dad found out what kind of game it was hahaha). We all had super smash bros and Mario kart tournaments together regularly. We bonded over video games. It made me feel more safe and accepted into our newly blended family. Halo will always have a special place in my heart because it was the beginning of it all ❤️

Yup... My parents were white British, working in Zambia when I was born. It's amazing how many times I get told "You weren't born in Africa" when tell them. Like they know better than me where I was born! Also a good one is (especially when the Brexit stuff was going on, but sadly still now) when people complain about "foreign born workers taking our jobs". I let them dig themselves into a hole before stating that I'm "foreign born"!
