I think the original tweet is talking about NOW. I did not sell slaves. I am not a racist. I can't tell you how many times things were blamed on race that weren't. I know there is racism out there. However, in my experience, calling racism without the facts leads to more assumptions that actions are racist, etc. It's a downward spiral. (I was in Human resources. Had a guy fired for stealing thousands of dollars of parts, on camera, he admitted it. He told everyone it was racism and we could not tell the real reason, for example... he actually got laid off, with a nice severance package, workers comp, just like everyone else laid off). Honestly I think it's racist to assume motives are racist. I can't tell you how many times a guy hits on me, I say no, and it's because I'm racist, not because of the way he spoke to me... or living in an all black neighborhood being treated badly because I am white.
