They don't get wages from their denomination or government. All their money is from the poor suckers who they trick into sending it to them. These assholes tell their followers that God will bless them if they donate money, and more blessing for more money.

I assume most of these people are pastors of "mega churchs". They are huge stadiums that pack in thousands of people, and often have strong social media presence as well. These churches tend to be very independent with little oversight by a larger denomination. The pastors directly collect donations from their congregations. There are many traditional churches in the US as well that are generally much smaller and have pastors who are paid much more modestly and may have to answer to some kind of regional denomination leadership such as a bishop.

They beg for money from their congregation. Seriously, they manage to convince people that by giving all their money their pastor will get them into heaven so much quicker.

They are not so much preachers as grifters. They convince their congregation to give and give and give for "God" when in reality, the preachers are lining their pockets. That's it in a nutshell.

John Oliver has an excellent show on this. Explaining just how they con vulnerable people out of vast sums of cash. It is quite upsetting though. These people aren't preachors/ pastors at all. They are con men and do a massive disservice to the genuine priests/vicars/ pastors who truly care for their communities and would give you their last penny if they thought it would help you. Strange to me too. I live in southeast United States. The masjid I went to as a kid, the imam was a doctor. Sometimes he would be in hospital scrubs during Friday congregation. At another masjid, the imam was an airport employee. I moved to another state, and the imam was a mechanic, but still taught classes every evening. There is charity in Islam, but it's mostly voluntary. Zakat (annual tax) is only for folks with a specific amount of wealth.

A lot of pastors are corrupt. They steal the money given to them for meant for the church. Pastoring is a very difficult job as your pay is always up in the air. Unfortunately some use the Lord’s name for they’re own greed and get away with tricking people into giving ridiculous amounts of money. You can find this in every religion. Sad. 😕

They exploit their followers - it's an "Open your heart to our misleading teachings and Open your wallets to our greed" packaged in a nice, neat "This is how you buy salvation" scheme. ANY religion that inhibits the freedom of their followers from finding their own path is false religion. Re-ligion: to re-tie to the above - You are the only person who can find or should dictate YOUR path. Period. End of story. Full stop.

Some preachers demand money to allow attendance or to be saved. This money goes on their lavish lifestyles, limousines and private jets.

The con their donors. They also get tax-free status, so taxpayers kick in their bit. Please don't assume that the guys are actually religious. Their actions speak louder than their words.

The government doesn't pay for or into religion. This is what happens when religion is turned "for-profit" and greedy mortals with no ethics run the circus.
