I Put Up A Christmas Tree That We Encourage Our Cats To Climb Into
My Dad's Christmas Tree. He Got It From A Mexican Import Shop
It's so gaudy I kind of like it. Also, it reminds me a bit of back in the 60s when my grandfather had one of those large aluminum trees and the spotlight on the floor with the rotating color wheel. As a little kid I thought it was pretty cool. - For the younger folks out there - back in the 60s / 70s the green fake trees (if you could find them) were really bad / fake looking. Nothing like the realistic looking ones you can find now.
David, I grew up with an Aluminum tree. It had two color wheels and a rotating tree base. I loved it. I would lay at night in my bed and watch the ceiling change colors. I have a 1957 aluminum tree now on my heated enclosed porch. Two color wheels and a rotating tree base. We love it. Out it up early and take it down late. We do have a traditional Christmas tree well decorated in the house. Such good memories!!

I know how hard this activity can be. You are brave and courageous. I bow to your tenacity. Depression is a torturous taskmaster. But you've beaten back your demons with this Christmas celebration staring with your gorgeous tree. Christmas can be a day when you take stock of yourself, drink a little eggnog or whatever and open gifts from you to you, like I do. Then I enjoy whatever parade is on or a good old' Hallmark sappy movie. Enjoy you on this day and Merry Christmas my friend.
I have mastered being single, depressed and owning a tree. Have not mastered the part where I get it out of the box in my shop and actually set it up.
Let's see, single my entire life (so I guess I've mastered it, if unwillingly), depressed my entire adult life (46 now, close to 47), and I haven't had my Christmas up since 2008, 2009? Definitely not since my mom died in 2011. Honestly, I couldn't care less that it's almost Christmas - it's just another day to me.
My heart hurts for you. Just know that there is at least one person that hopes you get a little bit of Christmas cheer. 🎄 ❤️🎄
Load More Replies...Each year, a good number of people try to one-up their own Christmas tree game from last year and go for designs that range from unorthodox to creative to witty to just downright awesome. Well, even more unorthodox, creative, etc.
For the record, there ain’t nothing wrong with keeping it simple. But if you’re out for that internet karma, simple is not the name of the game.
My Father Made A Christmas Tree
Very Lovely
This should stay up all year. This is one of the coolest things ever. We need one of these beauties in the States!
I'd never catch my train, I'd just sit there all day listening to stories.
We Spend 7 Hours Decorating Our Rainbow Christmas Tree
I'm surprised that a "Rainbow Christmas Tree" was not aligned to: R O Y G B I V...
Load More Replies...Considering "rainbow" is my favorite color, I thoroughly approve of this tree (even as I push down jealousy because - as the slave to 3 cats - I could only have this kind of tree in my dreams!).
Line up your family by height - "Okay, the twins get the red balls, Sally gets the purple, John gets the blue ones ...."
Gorgeous. How hard is this to do seamlessly? I'll bet a lot of patience is required!
To give you an example of what is not simple, take the Christmas book tree at St. Pancras Station. Not only do the booths at the bottom read you stories, but just the sheer size of it makes you gape in awe.
And if size is a criterion, then why not do the same with porta potties. Except you probably won’t be told a story, but poop-and-surf is a thing.
This Very Cool Christmas Tree
Driftwood Christmas Tree - Making The Best Of It On A Tropical Island
Beautiful tree. Very artistically done. If I had a home by the ocean I'd do a little breaking and entering, I think.
There is nothing wrong with making do with what you have. Plus this looks kind of cool. One year on my aircraft carrier - middle of the Indian Ocean - my buddy and I made a tree out of a broken mop handle (trunk), paper cones cut frilly and attached to straight pieces of metal coat hanger for the branches. The ornaments were chunks of styrofoam from airplane part packaging - cut into round balls, and painted red / made smooth with some paint we got ahold of. The hooks for the ornaments were bent paper clips. The end result was surprisingly good for a tree made out of trash.
First Tree In My First Home
"I'll let them take one pic before I destroy it!"
Load More Replies...I don't know if it's the light or the colours, but the image has an unreal atmosphere, like a fairy tale. Beautiful tree and beautiful cat! Merry Christmas!
But if you want to keep it at a more reasonable scale, then maybe a human-sized tree in the shape of Godzilla (Treezilla?) would work for you?
The tree design is featured in the article, and it was actually previously covered by Bored Panda on a different occasion. It’s amazing what 10 meters of chicken wire, a weed mat, plastic teeth, paper claws, Christmas lights, tree décor and four different firs can lead to.
My Roommate's Idea Of Christmas Trees
Invisible Christmas Tree
I can't read the certificates on the wall but I'm having fun imagining it is the lobby of a psychiatrist's office. "So, you are telling me you can not see the tree at all? Interesting. Tell me more."
this is probably very obvious, but can someone explain how the ornaments are staying? Is there lots of string from the ceiling holding the ornaments? If so, it seems like a lot of work.
They are probably on transparent fishing lines attached to the ceiling and floor.

Whatever you decide, though, keep the planet in mind. While there are many alternatives out there, the closest that you get to having a living Christmas tree is renting one.
Bored Panda actually wrote about this back in 2020, specifically about the London Christmas Tree Rental offering 3–7 foot high Christmas trees to take home for the season and then returning them afterwards.
My Christmas Tree For This Year
Great space-saving design and I love the whole quirky nature of the design. 👍
We have been doing this for about 6 years, and we never take it down. The lights stay up and on all year.
We've done this when our house was too small for a tree and 17 people!
We don't call them snake plants, we call them Mother-in-Law tongues on the Caribbean island I live on.

tell me money is no object to you, without telling me that money is no object to you.
The way tree rentals work (at least in the case of the London Christmas Tree Rental) is you come over to the location where all the trees are planted, reserve a tree, and when the time comes, you get it delivered to your place.
“We certainly have seen demand increase for rental trees, more and more people are avoiding buying a cut tree preferring one that can keep living after Christmas,” said Jonathan Mearns, Director of the London Christmas Tree Rental. “Some of our customers have never had a tree because they just don’t like the idea of cutting one down.”
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
The multicoloured ones, certainly. I'm very impressed. And wondering if I can knock out a few as gifts for this year.

My Christmas Tree. We Couldn't Afford Christmas Decorations, So Used Stuff We Already Had
Gives me late Victorian/Edwardian vibes, with its overstuffed, busy nature, and I love every bit of it!
Similar situation the first Christmas I had in my first home. I colored & cut out ornaments, etc from a dollar tree coloring book, even made a few originals, (my ex created a few Seahawks footballs) strung real popcorn garland and topped the tree with a XXXL black pirate rubber duck. Still my favorite tree ever ❤️ 🏴☠️ 🎄
Wait until the January sales. You'll score big because they all slash prices and you can pick up decorations for cents on the dollar.
This Christmas Tree In Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania
I LOVE when Christmas trees are decorated with other plants and flowers!!
You get to decorate the rented tree however you want, as long as you also take care of it (keep it in a cool place, not damage it, etc.).
“The rental trees can be decorated in exactly the same way. No need to hold back!” added Jonathan. “One of our customers chose their tree because they have had a star in the family for over 20 years so they looked and found a tree that works for their star.”
Once the season is over, folks from the rental come over, evaluate the tree, give you back the deposit, and the tree returns to its home soil. But, there is always the option to keep it, especially if you’ve grown fond of it.

I'm also a lifelong SoCal resident! We have a Christmas Palm Tree in our house just like OP does XD (I admit ours stays up year-round, as do all of our indoors Xmas decorations, as it's our favorite holiday. I also have a wreath on the front of my van year-round, lol!) xmas_palm-...5eb821.jpg
Reminds me of Futurama. "They're supposed to be some kind of, y'know, pine tree."
The average 6-foot rotting produces roughly 16 kilograms (35 pounds) of CO2, and you can multiply that by 7 million to get the gist of how much 4 weeks of holiday cheer costs the planet.
The London Christmas Tree Rental, on the other hand, aims to save all the trees, and once they’ve grown to roughly 7 feet, they replant them in a forest.
This Year, I Crocheted A 6-Foot Tall Christmas Tree
Such an incredible amount of work!! I need a close up of the branches you crochet-hook maniac!!!
OMG I love to crochet but this is incredible would love to know how many skeins this wonderment took.
I crochet, but not like this. That's a lot of work and I'm impressed. This is gorgeous!
Here's My Christmas Tree
I love a traditional tree with different ornaments on it. “Designer” trees are pretty, but kind of leave me cold because they just don’t look personal. I bet each one was bought over several years, and has a story.
This is exactly the way my tree is. I've been buying one or two ornaments every year I just love a tree that you can just look at for forever because of all the cool little ornaments and color. I totally agree with you
Load More Replies...You're like my Dad. He had a spot for every ornament and would tell us (my brother and I) where to put the ornaments. You didn't use the silver icicles. We had to put them on the tree 2-3 pieces at a time. Decorating the tree was hard work in our house. Of course, it was a beautiful tree.
This Year, I Decided Not To Buy A Christmas Tree But Instead Made My Own From Branches In My Backyard
But, if you don’t mind seeking out other alternatives, the most obvious option is an artificial one. You buy it once and it should last you a good decade or two.
And if buying plastic isn’t an option, there’s always no tree at all.
When we say no tree at all, we mean you can scavenge anything you have around the house to make a tree out of. Just make a silhouette of a tree using some lightweight metal or hangers or pegs.
Christmas Village Tree
Perfect way to use all your village without using up a room of floor space. Great idea!
Oh I love this! I've wanted to buy one for some years now, but I can't find a non scam site that sells these in my country...
My aunt has an entire ROOM full of these village houses. I keep telling her that she needs to get someone to make her a few of these so she can do a couple of them for Christmas. She has maybe 3-4 times as many as in this picture, it’s insane really.
My Mom Worked Hard On This Tim Burton / Nightmare Before Christmas Tree
That is so stunning that your mom needs to leave it up all year! I love it. It's beautifully done and the figures are wonderful. Your mom is brilliant!
That's been a touchy movie in our family this year but a great tree.
My Upside-Down, Rainbow Glass, Crystal-Dripping Tree. My Favorite Tree I Have Ever Done Actually. Love How Nontraditional And Unique She Looks
Ingenious way to find room for all those long ornaments--it would be impossible on a right-side-up tree.
Heck, it can even be any other tree you have at home. Palm tree, yucca, whatever, slap some Christmas baubles and lights on it and you got yourself one fine looking Christmas attribute at home.
Don’t have a plant? Go hunt down a twig of appropriate size and decorate that. The possibilities are endless.
Our Christmas Tree
My Mom would love this. I'm more of a Nightmare Before Christmas girl. Still this is absolutely beautiful.
I Was At My Local Hispanic Bakery, And I Saw This Christmas Tree Made Entirely Of Conchas
Is that bread or some kind of sweet? It's really creative. But I don't want to ruin their Christmas, do I won't tell you what "concha" means in Argentinian Spanish. I just read the title without looking at the photo and I thought "WHAT???"
It is a sweet kind of bread, but not send you bouncing off the walls sweet.

Oh, and here’s more trees from last year’s article.
Christmas Tree In Our House
I don't understand what ya'll are talking about. I think the tree is beautifully classy, and framed amazingly.
Yall. We need 🍌🍌🍌 on these. Otherwise it could be a closeup of a little thread we would never know!!! Beautiful from top to bottom, though!!
Why would that matter, exactly? It's the spirit, not the letter.

Technically, yes. But since these were a "stash" of them, they were already made, the trees are already used and they were repurposed.

ohh man, look at the needles on the floor, I feel for those people. you will be picking up needles for MONTHS!!
I like your parents. They've saved everything you (and siblings?) have ever done and it's all on that tree. When I did a Christmas tree I had all their stuff and even the first ornaments I ever bought (plastic because the kid was walking and liked the tree). It was lovely and made a wonderful decorated tree, and it was so full or memories.

Every year, I challenge myself to create an alternative Christmas tree. Branches, bamboo screens, and much more - nothing is off-limits. For this time, I've stepped up the wild and wacky ideas. Inspired by a beautifully wavy tree in a designer window display, and combined a few ideas I've seen on social media. Namely, two $27 block-out blinds, from which I used fabric and steel rod (and an old plant pot) to create this sculptural fluted Christmas tree. I was unsure how this would turn out, but I like it.

I Used Some Of Our Shoes To Make A Small Sneaker Tree Next To Our Real Christmas Tree
We are putting our tree up on Monday. First Christmas in our new home after being homeless for 3 years. We casually asked on the app NextDoor if anyone had an old tree they were getting rid of or replacing and if they could part with it for us as we're low on money due to health circumstances. Someone literally bought and had a £200 tree delivered to us so we would never have to worry about ever using an old Christmas tree again in our lives! It's a pre-lit artificial but when we opened it we saw it looks as realistic as a real tree. It's so beautiful, even though it's still in the box lol! We were and continue to be absolutely blown away at the generosity and kindness of the people we have encountered on that app! Other people have ordered decorations in our colours which arrive this weekend. Seems as though a group of some sort took it upon themselves to really help us out. Don't know why NextDoor has such a bad reputation as being a 'Karen HQ' app!
Lee, congrats on your new home and here's to the first of many many stable and happy Christmases to come for you and yours! <3 In regards to NextDoor, I've heard the same things. I've used it but rarely (mostly for stuff like "omg what was that loud bang near x and y streets?") but I've had 100% positive experiences with it. Sadly, where I live in the States (in an extremely "right-wing"/"red"/Republican city in an otherwise "blue"/liberal state) there are a LOT of "Karens" (aka crusty old white people) and people I'd call "general, all-around a-holes". (Example: I'm white af, but was adopted at birth into a Mexican/Hispanic family, and my boyfriend of 23 years is Chinese [and he has longer hair than I do!], and boy oh boy have I gotten openly harassed by other residents of my city for both the color of my family's skin and my choice of bf. Sad times.) So, in my area, the "reputation" is sadly real. It sucks that a few bad apples ruin the barrel :( Otherwise - Merry Christmas!!
