It's so gaudy I kind of like it. Also, it reminds me a bit of back in the 60s when my grandfather had one of those large aluminum trees and the spotlight on the floor with the rotating color wheel. As a little kid I thought it was pretty cool. - For the younger folks out there - back in the 60s / 70s the green fake trees (if you could find them) were really bad / fake looking. Nothing like the realistic looking ones you can find now.

David, I grew up with an Aluminum tree. It had two color wheels and a rotating tree base. I loved it. I would lay at night in my bed and watch the ceiling change colors. I have a 1957 aluminum tree now on my heated enclosed porch. Two color wheels and a rotating tree base. We love it. Out it up early and take it down late. We do have a traditional Christmas tree well decorated in the house. Such good memories!!

I know how hard this activity can be. You are brave and courageous. I bow to your tenacity. Depression is a torturous taskmaster. But you've beaten back your demons with this Christmas celebration staring with your gorgeous tree. Christmas can be a day when you take stock of yourself, drink a little eggnog or whatever and open gifts from you to you, like I do. Then I enjoy whatever parade is on or a good old' Hallmark sappy movie. Enjoy you on this day and Merry Christmas my friend.

Let's see, single my entire life (so I guess I've mastered it, if unwillingly), depressed my entire adult life (46 now, close to 47), and I haven't had my Christmas up since 2008, 2009? Definitely not since my mom died in 2011. Honestly, I couldn't care less that it's almost Christmas - it's just another day to me.

Gorgeous. How hard is this to do seamlessly? I'll bet a lot of patience is required!
To give you an example of what is not simple, take the Christmas book tree at St. Pancras Station. Not only do the booths at the bottom read you stories, but just the sheer size of it makes you gape in awe.
And if size is a criterion, then why not do the same with porta potties. Except you probably won’t be told a story, but poop-and-surf is a thing.

There is nothing wrong with making do with what you have. Plus this looks kind of cool. One year on my aircraft carrier - middle of the Indian Ocean - my buddy and I made a tree out of a broken mop handle (trunk), paper cones cut frilly and attached to straight pieces of metal coat hanger for the branches. The ornaments were chunks of styrofoam from airplane part packaging - cut into round balls, and painted red / made smooth with some paint we got ahold of. The hooks for the ornaments were bent paper clips. The end result was surprisingly good for a tree made out of trash.

I don't know if it's the light or the colours, but the image has an unreal atmosphere, like a fairy tale. Beautiful tree and beautiful cat! Merry Christmas!
But if you want to keep it at a more reasonable scale, then maybe a human-sized tree in the shape of Godzilla (Treezilla?) would work for you?
The tree design is featured in the article, and it was actually previously covered by Bored Panda on a different occasion. It’s amazing what 10 meters of chicken wire, a weed mat, plastic teeth, paper claws, Christmas lights, tree décor and four different firs can lead to.

The way tree rentals work (at least in the case of the London Christmas Tree Rental) is you come over to the location where all the trees are planted, reserve a tree, and when the time comes, you get it delivered to your place.
“We certainly have seen demand increase for rental trees, more and more people are avoiding buying a cut tree preferring one that can keep living after Christmas,” said Jonathan Mearns, Director of the London Christmas Tree Rental. “Some of our customers have never had a tree because they just don’t like the idea of cutting one down.”

Similar situation the first Christmas I had in my first home. I colored & cut out ornaments, etc from a dollar tree coloring book, even made a few originals, (my ex created a few Seahawks footballs) strung real popcorn garland and topped the tree with a XXXL black pirate rubber duck. I LOVE when Christmas trees are decorated with other plants and flowers!!
You get to decorate the rented tree however you want, as long as you also take care of it (keep it in a cool place, not damage it, etc.).
“The rental trees can be decorated in exactly the same way. No need to hold back!” added Jonathan. “One of our customers chose their tree because they have had a star in the family for over 20 years so they looked and found a tree that works for their star.”
Once the season is over, folks from the rental come over, evaluate the tree, give you back the deposit, and the tree returns to its home soil. But, there is always the option to keep it, especially if you’ve grown fond of it.

You're like my Dad. He had a spot for every ornament and would tell us (my brother and I) where to put the ornaments. You didn't use the silver icicles. We had to put them on the tree 2-3 pieces at a time. Decorating the tree was hard work in our house. Of course, it was a beautiful tree.

This Year, I Decided Not To Buy A Christmas Tree But Instead Made My Own From Branches In My Backyard
But, if you don’t mind seeking out other alternatives, the most obvious option is an artificial one. You buy it once and it should last you a good decade or two.
And if buying plastic isn’t an option, there’s always no tree at all.
When we say no tree at all, we mean you can scavenge anything you have around the house to make a tree out of. Just make a silhouette of a tree using some lightweight metal or hangers or pegs.

Ingenious way to find room for all those long ornaments--it would be impossible on a right-side-up tree.
Heck, it can even be any other tree you have at home. Palm tree, yucca, whatever, slap some Christmas baubles and lights on it and you got yourself one fine looking Christmas attribute at home.
Don’t have a plant? Go hunt down a twig of appropriate size and decorate that. The possibilities are endless.

I like your parents. They've saved everything you (and siblings?) have ever done and it's all on that tree. When I did a Christmas tree I had all their stuff and even the first ornaments I ever bought (plastic because the kid was walking and liked the tree). It was lovely and made a wonderful decorated tree, and it was so full or memories.

I Just Made My Christmas Tree
Every year, I challenge myself to create an alternative Christmas tree. Branches, bamboo screens, and much more - nothing is off-limits. For this time, I've stepped up the wild and wacky ideas. Inspired by a beautifully wavy tree in a designer window display, and combined a few ideas I've seen on social media. Namely, two $27 block-out blinds, from which I used fabric and steel rod (and an old plant pot) to create this sculptural fluted Christmas tree. I was unsure how this would turn out, but I like it.

We are putting our tree up on Monday. First Christmas in our new home after being homeless for 3 years. We casually asked on the app NextDoor if anyone had an old tree they were getting rid of or replacing and if they could part with it for us as we're low on money due to health circumstances. Someone literally bought and had a £200 tree delivered to us so we would never have to worry about ever using an old Christmas tree again in our lives! It's a pre-lit artificial but when we opened it we saw it looks as realistic as a real tree. It's so beautiful, even though it's still in the box lol! We were and continue to be absolutely blown away at the generosity and kindness of the people we have encountered on that app! Other people have ordered decorations in our colours which arrive this weekend. Seems as though a group of some sort took it upon themselves to really help us out. Don't know why NextDoor has such a bad reputation as being a 'Karen HQ' app!

I've used it but rarely (mostly for stuff like "omg what was that loud bang near x and y streets?") but I've had 100% positive experiences with it. Sadly, where I live in the States (in an extremely "right-wing"/"red"/Republican city in an otherwise "blue"/liberal state) there are a LOT of "Karens" (aka crusty old white people) and people I'd call "general, all-around a-holes". (Example: I'm white af, but was adopted at birth into a Mexican/Hispanic family, and my boyfriend of 23 years is Chinese [and he has longer hair than I do!], and boy oh boy have I gotten openly harassed by other residents of my city for both the color of my family's skin and my choice of bf. Sad times.) So, in my area, the "reputation" is sadly real. It sucks that a few bad apples ruin the barrel :( Otherwise - Merry Christmas!!

Someone literally bought and had a £200 tree delivered to us so we would never have to worry about ever using an old Christmas tree again in our lives! It's a pre-lit artificial but when we opened it we saw it looks as realistic as a real tree. It's so beautiful, even though it's still in the box lol! We were and continue to be absolutely blown away at the generosity and kindness of the people we have encountered on that app! Other people have ordered decorations in our colours which arrive this weekend. Seems as though a group of some sort took it upon themselves to really help us out. Don't know why NextDoor has such a bad reputation as being a 'Karen HQ' app!

Lee, congrats on your new home and here's to the first of many many stable and happy Christmases to come for you and yours! <3 In regards to NextDoor, I've heard the same things. I've used it but rarely (mostly for stuff like "omg what was that loud bang near x and y streets?") but I've had 100% positive experiences with it. Sadly, where I live in the States (in an extremely "right-wing"/"red"/Republican city in an otherwise "blue"/liberal state) there are a LOT of "Karens" (aka crusty old white people) and people I'd call "general, all-around a-holes". (Example: I'm white af, but was adopted at birth into a Mexican/Hispanic family, and my boyfriend of 23 years is Chinese [and he has longer hair than I do!], and boy oh boy have I gotten openly harassed by other residents of my city for both the color of my family's skin and my choice of bf. Sad times.) So, in my area, the "reputation" is sadly real. It sucks that a few bad apples ruin the barrel :( Otherwise - Merry Christmas!!

LOVE these trees. HATE that great REAL trees are axed and sacrificed to Washington DC and NYC every year for the holiday season. TERRIBLE waste . . .
