I Make Fruit And Vegetable Carvings That Are Inspired By Pop Culture, Horror, Fantasy, And More (40 Pics)
Pumpkins, potatoes, carrots, even peas get sculpted into incredible characters... and then they rot! I prefer temporary art, and feel that the short life of my creations makes them seem almost like visitors! Instead of a growing collection of items, my offbeat work is about sharing the moment.

I've seen Deane carve these in person, and he's amazing - but he sits there whittling away as if it's no big deal, modest as all get-out. Deane carves pumpkins and potatoes like Michelangelo sculpts marble.
What does this remind me of? It's from a movie, right? But I just can't place it...
This is brilliant...also...if you look at just the top half..it looks like the Grinch.
There is another picture with just an eye - I think the iris is really just a hole, and the pupil a deeper hole inside it. The darker shade of both of them is then simply due to deeper shadows. The "glint" is a speck left out when cutting out the iris. If you look at this other picture (currently #8) you can see what I mean. Pretty ingenious!

heeey this one kinda looks like his profile picture. is it just me?
Reminds me of One Eyed Willie from The Goonies, except this one has two eyes. So close tho.
The expression reminds me of a grandpa trying to impress disinterested kids
This face seems so familiar- Maybe that comedian Garry Shandling or Jimmy Carter?
Yes! Totally conveyed such specific expression/emotion

Hi Deane Arnold, I see that you’ve possibly been influenced by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt and his character heads? If not, I highly recommend that you should check him out.
I know Messerschmidt's work, but I haven't really studied him.
