While we may imagine a dystopian future of thought police, killer robots, and nuclear fallout, the real future predictions are much more boring. Instead of being brutally brainwashed and enslaved by fascist, authoritarian regimes, we have willingly enslaved ourselves. By allowing the top 1% to get exponentially richer, we drown in a sea of debts, tech, advertising, endless wars, environmental destruction, addictions, depression... the list goes on.

Brilliant, isn't it? But it's ok; there's always Facebook to scroll through (Bored Panda too, obvs), Netflix to watch, chemical-laden meals to consume, manufactured outrages over a mermaid's skin color to comment on. Who's got time for thoughtful resistance in this sick, sad world? Even those that think they are resisting by electing bigoted billionaires, bankers and Eton toffs to represent them are simply playing into their hands, as their dishonest, scaremongering claptrap divides us ever further over political, racial and gender lines!

Sometimes we need to take a step back and see the forest for the trees. This list, compiled by Bored Panda, contains some pretty terrifying examples of present-day dystopian society, things that make you realize that beyond all the distractions of trying to survive and thrive in the rat race, something's not quite right with this world.

So if you didn't find the sinister scenes of mindless automatons chanting “send her back” chilling enough, scroll down below to get a reality check on the spookily Orwellian society we are allowing to be constructed, and let's see if we can fix our near future in the comments! If you want to see even more proof of our dystopian world, be sure to check out our previous list!

Why would you be mad at the company?..you as a consumer pull the same bs. Instead of supporting small local businesses you shop at walmart...which hires people at slave wages. By you saving a buck your forcing down the local wages.. So you need to deport your own a*s

Or, or, or...maybe....we say, "consumers enable illegal immigrants to come over and take jobs at below market wages (keeping them trapped in poverty and subject to abuse) because your need to keep the morning latte and avocado toast at only $10 outweighs the need to provide safe working environments at fair wages for workers. Of course it could be possible to increases wages if businesses and corporations would be allowed to increase their cost of consumer products without you all melting down into b1tchfests....but please lecture me some more on evil business owners from your iPhones and Nikes.

Increase the cost of products? Here's an idea....how about big corporations pay a living wage because they can afford to do so? How about they pay there fair share of taxes? All the tax cuts and loopholes so the rich keep getting richer in the backs of the poor.

Those who gain social security cards mean that they applied for work authorization and have the proper documents for it. That also means they'll have to pay taxes or taxes can be withheld from their wages.

It's the ones using somebody else's social security numbers that bother a lot of people. Not many for sure, but enough ID theft to make it a profitable business and much easier to get than official docs.

Yes and Not just that but the fact of the matter is there are quite a few jobs that many people don’t want to do, so immigrants and backpackers often work in the less desired professions/jobs.

True but if there wasn’t immigrants and backpackers that would work these jobs they would be forced to pay more for Americans to work those jobs. Hence why jobs that were rough, gross or dangerous use to pay very well

That's only a half truth. Illiegal immigrants didn't become criminals over night. Many Capitalists are defrauded by these criminals by simply accepting their "FAKE IDs" and other bogus documents. We should be mad at both remembering that ALL illegal immigrants are criminals and not all capitalists are.

Incorrect. Anyone that migrates to this country knows they need a work visa or they are here illegally. Since they are coming here for a specific job they know that opportunity was not given to an American simply because they are willing to take less. Americans know employers do this often enough. I have seen this happen to a company I worked for. Bussed Mexicans in, had set up housing for them on the property. While they saved money the quality of the computers they produced fell off substantially with one in four PC's being dead on arrival or having a critical failure on delivery. This company went from being known for producing the highest quality PC's to the lowest and then finally out of business.

1. In the Pennsylvania fresh mushroom industry, the only people who willingly work picking mushrooms are the immigrants. In 1990's - 2010's, 7-8 immigrant men shared an apartment and sent the extra money back home to their families. We are white, middle class and it was difficult to get our 4 teenagers to go out and find part-time or summer jobs. They were too good for fast food or retail and picking fresh mushrooms certainly wasn't in their plans. We moved from Pennsylvania about 10 years ago and I don't know how they're getting the fresh mushrooms picked now. 2. I don't want to read swear words, so go ahead an censor. Swear words and name calling fall in the same category as substitutes for intelligent dialogue.

This person's has no clue. I live on the border. They come up daily from Mexico, do house painting, electrician jobs, and plumbing for minimum wage and go back at night. Minimum is good money in Mexico. They force US citizens to drop wages and lower their life style to get any work. I'm not against immigrants, my mom was one, but they should charge as much as everyone else, they deserve it.

NOONE, absolutely NOONE, is forced to pay anyone below-market wages. That is the point. Your good neighbour is taking advantage of a poorer person to the detriment of another neighbour. That is all there is to it.

C'mon yall, it's not really complicated. An 'illegal' immigrant will often work for less than market value, driving wages of that job down to the point that an American worker cannot afford to do it. Illegals shouldn't be here, and corporations shouldn't hire them.

This is not 100% true. Go to most Home Depot's and you'll see Mexicans standing out front waiting to get a job. I use to work for a company that hired them every time they needed extra help because they were still cheaper than a day labor company. And these immigrants were charging $25 an hour. Those jobs could have easily gone to a day labor company, but illegal help was cheaper. That is a job that plenty of Americans need and do, but is taken by illegals.

AMERICANS ARE TAUGHT MORE ABOUT SAFE SPOTS TO GET AWAY THAN THEY ARE ABOUT HARD WORK. THE YOUTH OF TODAY ARE PAMPERED, SPOILED, AND DO NOT LEARN THE PROPER WORK ETHIC. TOO MAY PARENTS DO NOT LET THEIR CHILDREN GROW UP. I WISH EVERYONE HAD TO SPEND TWO YEARS IN A BRANCH OF SERVICE. BEING A SOLDIER IS NOT ALL ABOUT KILLING. IN ACT A SOLDIER SPENDS A GREAT DEAL OF THE TIME HELPING THE COMMUNITY IN TIME OF CRISIS. THEY ALSO LEARN HOW TO WORK HARD TOGETHER, GET ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE, BUDGET TO LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS, AND THEY LEARN HOW TO CLEAN A BATHROOM WHICH MAKES FOR A BETTER MATE WHEN THEY HAVE A ROOMMATE OR SPOUSE. WHEN A CHILD IS ALLOWED TO GROW UP THEY ARE A BETTER PERSON. THE GOVERNMENT IS A POOR PARENT TOO AND HAS NO BUSINESS IN OUR BUSINESS. PEOPLE NEED TO GROW UP AND STAND ON THEIR OWN TWO FEET. UNLESS THE IMMIGRANT IS A CRIMINAL THEY ARE USE TO HARD WORK AND ARE NOT AFRAID TO SWEAT. ANY HONEST JOB THAT PUTS FOOD ON THE TABLE AND A ROOF OVER YOUR FAMILY' HEAD IS A GOOD JOB.

The term 'boring dystopia was coined by the late academic and cultural theorist Mark Fisher in 2015. He used it to refer to the "bland, mildly coercive signs that abound in late-stage capitalist society, which foster a vague sense of isolation or unease."

He started a Facebook group that documented these signs as a way to develop consciousness about the world around us. "It was understood from the start to be a consciousness-raising exercise, encouraging people to perceive the actual state of Britain rather than the PR state," Fisher said in an interview with Vice. "Which is surprisingly hard, because there's this mixture of Silicon Valley ideology, PR and advertising which distracts us from our own aesthetic poverty, and the reality of what we have. Which is just all these crap robots…"

"Boring Dystopia was partly about the fact that no one can care about stuff any more," said Fisher. "It's not that they don't care, but in a city like London, or any intensely pressured urban metropolis—add to that the pressures of capitalist cyberspace and people just feel like they perpetually have no time."

"Our resources for caring are depleted, and that has aesthetic consequences."

The Facebook group was short-lived, with Fisher quickly becoming disillusioned with Facebook itself. "For me the point at which the group started to go downhill was when it became like every other Facebook group. It was just recirculating 'content' and sending links, keeping people inside what I would call capitalist cyberspace instead of looking outside at their own environment. It felt like it was reinforcing the condition it was intended to displace," he explained.

"It didn't work at that scale, and you could feel that it wasn't the right place for it… It was just an experiment, and Facebook probably wasn't the right platform. I didn't want it to be diluted."

I knew a girl who got Hep C from her ex-boyfriend. Her insurance would not pay to fix it unless she was very very ill. As far as I know she still has it. Had she gone to jail she would have been treated and it wouldn't be an issue anymore.

They also move the general public from public film locations and replace them with actors who play the "general public". It's about having control over what is being filmed. The demographic of those being moved to accommodate a public film location, is not the issue at hand.

This is why I have a hard time buying things digitally. You don't own any of the music or movies, you own a license to watch/ listen to that media. Sure there are still license agreements with physical copies of media- but as long as I have something that can read the disc I don't have to worry about it.

"commitment" may not be the issue here at all. 2 key points: 1. employer must be clear on the expectations of their staff, and hire accordingly. 2. employees must be clear on the expectations of their job, and behave accordingly. (if the boss agreed to let them go home 30mins early, 3 times a week, the boss needs to honour that agreement, or renegotiate with the appropriate notice). Besides, there are MANY solutions to this, that has nothing to do with how "committed" a person is to a job. eg shorter lunch breaks on the days she needs to leave early / longer days on the other days when she doesn't need to collect her kids / other staff can pick up overtime to cover the extra 30mins / ensure she completes her required tasks within her day, regardless of the length of the day. Often, it's about *productivity* while working, vs the hours working. (from a manager who fought to keep my VERY productive staff, who needed some compromises due to outside commitments)

I did that as a mom when I was 28 years old. It was awesome. No. No it wasn’t. It f*****g sucked. It took 5 months to save up enough money to get a place. It wouldn’t have taken so long, but day care is expensive when you don’t have any family to help you. Or to be more specific, your family doesn’t really give a s**t about you or your child. (I’m not being an a*s here. I was actually told this.)
