“A Boring Dystopia”: 50 Highly Disturbing Posts That Reveal We’re Already Living Through An Apocalypse (New Pics)
Dystopia is a world or society in which people lead wretched, dehumanized, and fearful lives.
If you need a more vivid example, think of the novel The Children of Men (1992), by P.D. James where the human population has become infertile and lost all interest in politics, allowing the authorities to install various regulations such as mass "voluntary" suicides by the elderly, rampant cruel treatment toward prisoners of the state, and mandatory sperm testing and female inspections. Fatalism, boredom, crime, and religious hysteria are abundant, and it's not that pretty.
While such an environment might seem possible only in fiction, there is a subreddit whose members think we're actually on our way to making it a reality. It's called 'A Boring Dystopia' and these folks regularly share real-life examples of what they believe to be societal decay. Here are some of them.

One Of The Two Remaining Northern White Rhinos In The World, Guarded 24 Hours A Day To Guard Against Poachers
I get and agree 110% with Burnt Bagel's sentiment; and, am not opposed to the outright poaching of animal poachers!
Load More Replies...I believe there's a small militia that is authorized to kill poachers on sight, which is fair enough. At least these poor rhinos will get to live a full life, but there is such a thing as "too late".
I just found out about them, from you. Now I whole-heartedly support that militia group.
Load More Replies...I've said it before: Humans are responsible for the extinction of many, many species.
im honestly convinced humans will b the reason humans go extinct. not only do we make dangerous things, scary scientific discoveries we shouldnt figure out, robotic routes we shouldnt take etc. theres also the idiots doing dangerous tiktok challenges, idiotic stunts, psycho drivers etc. that group is killing themselves off.
Load More Replies...Thank you, to all those men and women who risk their lives to protect the last of these magnificent creatures. Humanity does not deserve the gifts we have been given.
Those who want to execute pochers on sight, you aim for the wrong target. Poachers are often poor locals, in situations where poaching a animal may be the only ways to buy meds for a sick relative or even have food on the table. They take all the risks, for networks of distributors and buyers that stays safe. I cant say I wouldnt be tempted to poach if my kids future was on the line and no other viable options was present. The real villains go free.
That's what I say. It's not the people actively doing the killing that are the bad guys. They are being blackmailed. Given the choice, kill the animals or we kill your kids. The people to go after, are the ones buying the stuff. If everyone would stop buying it, the demand would go down and it would stop really fast.
Load More Replies...Poaching is a business. A S****y business no doubt, performed by some vile bas-turds. You know who the truly vile are? Their clients. They're all of the above combined with callousness and cowardice who hide behind middlemen to blind themselves to their guilt and blood on their hands. They create the demand these poachers live off of. Poachers are the symptom. Consumers are the cause.
There are reserves where guards are not only encouraged but actively ordered to shoot poachers on sight. This seems fair to me.

Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) is widely considered to be one of the primary suspects that can send us humans into doom and gloom. And for good reason: this technology has brought many good and bad things into our lives, and it will have an even greater impact in the coming decades.
Naveen Joshi, who is the founder and CEO of Allerin, a company that develops engineering and technology solutions focused on optimal customer experiences, and has extensive experience in AI, big data, IoT, and blockchain, thinks that there are legitimate reasons to be concerned.
"Current AI research is overly focused on making advances in a narrow set of domains and pays insufficient attention to the disruptive effects on society's fabric," Joshi wrote in Forbes.

First Time I've Seen A Message Like This On A Vehicle
If I was forced to live in a Republican dominated area, I might put a sticker like that on my vehicle just so I do not get shot. "When in the land of the one-eyed, poke out one of thine eyes."
Load More Replies...I failed to add, that this message is not just about police officers pulling folks over, but also for the angry drivers who go into a road rage mode when someone is not driving fast enough,by mistake have cut them off or has given them the middle finger. The 400,000,000 firearms in the U.S. and the angry, late for work, macho attitudes and etc. make a lot of us want to put signs like this on our rides. I think a lot of commenters here are right in their concerns about politics, firearms and the growing number of dumb U.S. citizens.
Kinda sad you have to write that last sentence on your car...tell me you live in America without telling me you live in America...
Big facts! A friend of mine told me her ex got shot yesterday and my first question (sadly) was..... Was it a cop or civilian that shot him :( smh
Load More Replies...People in the comments are taking issue with them being Pro-Trump, but my biggest issue with them is they’re Pro-Ford
This signage on the truck says a lot about many interactions between our police and what may appear to be uncooperative drivers. Police involved shootings have been going on well before Trump and the current firearms laws. Those here who own firearms may feel the need to be on the defensive and those here who think this is strictly a Trump/Republican/gun nut issue need to see more of the big picture. My point is, assuming that this is not for amusement , the owner of this truck is being PROACTIVE and using their brain. And last thing, no one wants to shot dead for any misunderstanding when pulled over by any police officer in either a Blue or Red state, period.
By this point it‘s just a series of „what the f***s?“ Aaaand welcome to the land of the „free“
There's Nothing Good About Goodwill
Goodwill f*****g sucks. They don't care about the homeless and needy, they really care about the money. This is a business, not a charity.
Let's be real, the vast majority of homeless/needy charities, especially the church-affiliated ones, are revenue raisers or recruitment fronts, not actual attempts at helping people. Not all of them, but damn most of them.
Load More Replies...Years ago I used to work at a charity shop (not Goodwill) and if people who were truly homeless or had no money the manager would give them things for free. She was allowed to use her discretion in such situations.
Charging a man with a crime for stealing $15 dollars worth of used, DONATED clothes. 🙄
It’s sickening. My heart goes out to that guy, they had to go as far as violating his privacy too, printing his face all over the newspapers. Guy got a hard bum deal. All because he needed something he didn’t have that wasn’t even worth much to begin with…
Load More Replies...F**k goodwill and this dude who reported this guy. Never donating to them again, in recent years they have jacked up prices
I stopped donating to goodwill a long time ago. They are money hungry degenerates. If you really want to do good find a local charity shop that actually helps people.

The odds are 10 -1 the general manager is a good, god-fearing christian.
It's great to see everyone here is smart and empathetic enough to see the homeless guy isn't the one who stands out as bad.
According to Joshi, if AI technology continues on its current path, it will likely cause social upheaval for at least two reasons.
"Firstly, AI will have an impact on the future of work. Our current trajectory over-automates work while refusing to invest in human productivity. Further advances will displace workers while failing to create new opportunities and, as a result, miss out on AI's full potential to boost productivity."
"Also, AI has the potential to undermine democracy and individual liberties."

Reminds me of Baldrick from Blackadder goes forth. He writes his name on a bullet because he heard that everyone has a bullet with their name on it, if he has that bullet then he'll survive the war.
Sounds like a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel!

Oh… now hear me out people - this does seem dystopian. Whereas I understand weapon defense is necessary in war, there is slightly a sad component here knowing that people are paying to have messages written to bomb innocent civilians not even in support of Putin’s position. What if the outside plastic was made with litter? Yes, I am a glass half-full person
So if it were biodegradable then the tiny plastic would just end right back in the landfills and wash into the water systems again.

I hate this post cos it doesnt have any context. What am I looking at, what was its purpose how many did they make. Like is this just the climinate conference drama again where people complained about world leaders using planes to get to the climate summit. Like how else where they going to get there, by boat? Sometimes you need to use CO2 to reduce CO2. Without context everyone's comments make no sense. They are assuming stuff not stated as we have no idea what we are looking at and what its purpose is and how it will be used.
If things do not change, Joshi predicts that we will see massive unemployment, as many jobs will be replaced by machinery.
"Wealth inequality will be created as AI investors take the lion's share of the earnings. The gap between rich and poor will grow wider. The so-called 'M' shape of wealth distribution will become more apparent," he continued.
The System Is Broken
"The system is broken.". No, the system is working the way it was intended to. They system is just cruel.
Our system is set up to keep the rich fat and happy by letting them destroy the world at everyone else's expense.
Load More Replies...Yes, there're homeless children in the world. Of course our hearts bleed for them. But the vast majority are adults; drug addicts, mentally ill or disabled, often disheveled and smelling bad. It is they who are disregarded most, and they who we must care for as much as the children. I note the same for prisoners. Everyone wants to focus on the wrongly convicted. The vast majority are guilty, yet just as deserving as being treated with human compassion, moral support, and assistance progressing in their lives to live better, honest lives.
This is a VERY kind, empathetic, and powerful comment that I wholeheartedly agree with.
Load More Replies...Extraction of wealth from poor to redistribute to the rich IS the system
The system should be putting heavy emphasis on education and birth control, but they throw people in jail who have abortions when they're not educated about birth control, so then you have poverty creating more poverty when they're forced to have kids they can't afford to take care of. This is a very f*cked up and broken system. They'll force a woman to have a child and then shrug when she asks how she's supposed to care for it.
The "system" has ALWAYS been broken. Let's not act like this horror is something new or unusual.
The American Dream

Well then, heaven forbid someone knocks on the wrong door, or is lost and has to pull in their driveway to do a 3 point turn. As recent news stories have shown.
Passenger Photo While Plane Flew Near East Palestine, Ohio ... Chemical Fire After Train Derailed
I don't live in America, but I'm just certain that all this is extremely harmful to nature, animals and humans and that everything has been swept under the rug.
Thankfully there's a pretty big magnifying glass over this incident and it seems the train company isn't going to get away with their initial attempt at minimizing the fallout. Expect lots of lawsuits.
Load More Replies...It seems like every week there is a new train derailment lately. We're great, for the most part, at building new things but we're terrible at maintaining it once it's built.
It’s also about the current regulations. The Trump administration actually rolled back certain safety requirements, though to be honest safety standards have been falling in American rail for years and years. Vice news has had an excellent series of articles on this for a while now, it’s not a new phenomenon. People are just paying attention for the first time in a while. Safety regulations are valuable, but not very sexy or interesting.

I looked this one up. The interview happened in 92 but the author never released this quote until 16 years after ehrlichman died, and the family denied this was ever said. They point to all the other quotes his father was able to defend against and note the quote didn't match the feeling or voice of other quotes obtainedfrom this interview. I still think this is true, I'm just a little dubious that this was actually said
Unless the family was in the room during the interview, they would have no idea if he said it or not. I wasn't in that room either, but this sounds like vintage Ehrlichman, phrase for phrase.

Who do you think brought in the crack?Same ones bringing in the fentanyl. Good thing our tax dollars are guarding the poppy fields. Plus add the word war gives more funding. "Issues emerge not only in the social sense but also in AI itself, as the AI that is trained and taught how to operate the given task can eventually take off to the point where human control is lost, resulting in unanticipated problems and consequences."
"It refers to AI's ability to function autonomously after being loaded with all necessary algorithms, ignoring the command given by the human controller," Joshi said.

There is another organism that operates like this. Do you know which one Mr. Anderson? The virus
Load More Replies...I'm not sure this is real. I highly doubt a beer bottle could withstand the tens of thousands of pounds of pressure. I could be wrong though, and either way what we have done to the oceans is gross.
If it is an opened empty bottle the pressure would balance out.
Load More Replies...But … wait a minute … Challenger deep is, according to Google about 11 kilometers or 6.8 miles down. At that depth it exerts water pressure of 8 tones per square inch. With that much pressure, wouldn’t any glass beer bottle be crushed into dust?!? This appears to be intact - does anyone know the science here?
No, if the bottle is open, the pressure will be the same on both sides of the glass, so it won't be crushed. Not the same if it's full and closed.

Honestly, I don't mind this. This hardly qualifies as dystopia, and I prefer the sleeker look. Besides, I don't want a tree that's high on meth staring at me while I eat.
When I was a child the Meth Tree from McDonald's had a speaker and if you booped its nose you could talk to it and it would answer you back. Plus an outside Playland with scorching hot playground made of steel.
Load More Replies...I actually miss the old fun McDonald’s 😆 I miss the hamburger shaped stools and the random characters on the playground and the parties 🎈
The reason is lawsuits in the late-80s or early-90s that claimed that McDonald's was contributing to childhood obesity by marketing to children with mascots, interiors that appealed to children, and play areas. So they gave it a more grown up look to avoid future lawsuits.
No character in anything anymore. Everything looks the same. It's boring AF.
They've become a lot less child oriented in recent years, it seems. It's interesting.

Malthus Would've Blushed Looking At This
She had Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. There is no cure for EDS, and Jennyfer was in constant pain. That being said, she did NOT want to die, and wanted treatment/healthcare, but she was not able to secure the treatments and care she wanted and needed. She was, however, eligible for medically-assisted euthanasia. In the end, her mental and physical suffering grew so great that she felt pushed into choosing euthanasia. I am a supporter for assisted euthanasia for those who have terminal diagnoses, but ONLY AFTER medical assistance is exhausted or refused entirely! Jennyfer did not REFUSE medical assistance - SHE was refused it.
I have EDS and I have given up trying to get help. Every doctor accuses me of being a drug addict (despite not asking for addictive drugs) or liar. Being American, I pay out the a*s to be demoralized and humiliated. I can understand what pushed her to the edge.
Load More Replies...I saw a documentary about euthanasia on Netflix. One guy was trying to get his insurance to approve an experimental cancer treatment. The company denied him, but helpfully informed him that they DID cover the drugs for euthanasia. They’d rather have you dead, it's cheaper.
This is horrific....why on earth could she not access the support she needed??? I need more details!
Without knowing any details of the story, I'm still very confident in my reply: Capitalism
Load More Replies...Not going to lie. Thought about it. I have EDS, a variety of it that causes remodeling in my scar tissue. Any scars near the bone becomes so tough it takes a saw to get through. I had back surgery, which is how we discovered this. It tore open down to my spine. I was also born with Waardenburg-shah and am missing part of my colon. But right now I take care of my terminally ill ex-husband and my daughter who have the same genetic condition, Gardner's Syndrome. So they need me too much. I subsist on a very small amount of medication and I am tired. No one wants to treat me because of the opioid crisis, (even though because of these stupid conditions the chemical pathways that tell your brain to feel high almost don't exist in me. Seriously, edibles don't even work on me.) So here I exist. Wishing that I could stop hurting and feeling bad because I deal with people who are even worse off than me.
This is so heartbreaking. I wasn't going to comment. Because there is nothing I can say or do that can fix anything for you or make your pain go away. But I thought maybe words help even if a little. I can just hope for you and your family that you get the strength and the help you need. I hope that you are surrounded by people that make your life easier. I am so sorry.

Load More Replies...I had to fight like hell with my previous Doctor because he thought I was drug seeking because of my back pain. He finally sent me in for a CT scan on a Wednesday, the next day they called and asked if I could go in for an MRI on Friday because they said I had shadows on my test. While I was doing the MRI the tech slipped and said they found masses on my CT scan and then I was sent to the lab for a ton of bloodwork. The following Monday for my follow-up the Doctor told me that I have Cancer. Both tests showed my entire spine, from top to bottom, was covered in tumors and was compressing on my spinal cord and the nerves in my neck, back and left hip. Maybe if my Doctor would have listened to me earlier when i began having the pain for a year before the initial CT scan and MRI things would not have progressed so far. I've been battling this on/off for the last 5 years and I know how absolutely exhausting dealing with a situation like this can be.
I have EDS, POTS, and all the numerous related illnesses. Not help for me has been forthcoming from the countless physicians I see on a routine basis. I've been turned into a lab rat by a teaching hospital to see what might work.
Yes. But universal healthcare isn't always what it's made up to be. I live in a country with it and you basically have to fight and argue for the right to get diagnoses and treatment and a lot of people - me included - don't have the energy to do so.
Load More Replies...You know what‘s ironic here? I‘ve read about Americans who think our „social“ healthcare means that old people are being euthanized to not be a burden to the system or something. There is a German saying that fits here, I think. „They cant see the forest because of all the trees around them“
We have the same expression in English, usually expressed as "He can't see the wood for the trees".

As a swiftie, let me just say that this lyric is from a song called I Bet You Think About Me. This song is a sarcastic satirical song where she contrasts her ex boyfriend’s upbringing with hers. The ex boyfriend grew up super mega rich in Beverly Hills whereas she grew up well off with a happy wholesome family but not super crazy rich.
That's a middle-class house, or used to be. Maaaaaaybe upper-middle class, depending on where it is and how much land comes with it. I'm not saying Ms. Swift grew up destitute, but from this photo I can't say her family was rich. Especially not the kind of rich the title alludes to.
Location makes a difference. That's house is worth over $1M. Most people posting on here can't afford that house. It's also on 11 acres of land. That's a large enough plot for 60 - 80 houses.

WTH is a private prison? I've never heard of this from any other country.
Most prisons are federally, state, or county/city owned. There are some industries that actually build prisons and get money from the government for each inmate. I am sure they make a killing reporting costs and not giving the inmates what the prisons are claiming they are spending. CoreCivic is a big one in the United States.

My Wage Cage. Nature Is Begging Me To Leave!
This reminds me of driving to work on spring mornings, when the day promises to be so nice that it feels like a waste to spend it inside. I wonder what would really happen if I just drove on past my exit, and went out to see what the world offered. (Actually, where I live, there's not much on offer. Better to go to work, make some money, and buy a beer on the way home.)
To be honest I would pay to have this printed and framed. It's my kind of artwork.

Years ago, my grandmother slipped on some ice while she was entering a craft store. She fell and broke her hip. Management initially refused her request for an ambulance, since they thought she was faking and "she could get up if she wanted to." Angry shoppers literally stepped over her to get in and out of the store (when they could have just as easily walked around her). Reluctantly, they called 911, she was taken to the hospital, and that's when they discovered she'd broken her hip. It was like pulling teeth to get the craft store to pay the unreimbursed portion of the bills.
This Old Toys R Us Is Now A Gun Store
I miss toys r us... the good ol days of buying a new pawa patrol toy every weekend.
I used to work there. It wasn't a bad job until ANY holiday came around. Christmas and Easter were absolute murder. (I worked at a Toy's r Us, not the gun store.) I really miss it too. My husband and I used to go in when new Todd McFarlane toys came out.

The old store legally had to be concerned whether the products it sold were dangerous to children. The new one has no such requirements.
I was too poor to go to toys r us growing up, but I am happy to say that the one near me that closed did not turn into a gun store, but in fact a delightful spirit halloween lol

It's already at 68...and could reach 75 by the time my daughters are in full time work! Mine is 67...raised from 60 when I started work 30 years ago....

Hey, I've got a great idea. How about the people who actually stomped the pavement day in and day out to get those numbers get to benefit from their work? Local Supermarket Has Started To Put A Protective Barrier Around The Employees Whilst They Put The Reduced Food Out On The Shelves. Out Of Shot Is A Horde Of Eager Pensioners Ready To Pounce
Seriously though, I used to do this job and customers can be extremely threatening and aggressive, I have been almost crushed and pushed to the floor by customers trying to get to the reduced items first.
Maybe the local supermarket should have stocked their shelves before opening the doors. It's so annoying to have to shuffle around huge obstacles because the store is too cheap to pay the additional salaries.
We live in a totally weird world. First, it was Cabbage Patch Kids, and we've graduated to this.
It's sad that people have gotten to this point. Unfortunately people are struggling to feed their families. Maybe stores should display them on a movable shelf that can be stocked in the back then wheeled out so the employee isn't trampled
Having worked in a supermarket where I had to reduce the going out of date food, I can see the reasoning behind this. Some customers could become quite aggressive if the item they wanted wasn't reduced enough, and would sometimes try to get me to reduce food that wasn't out of date and become aggressive when I said no. Also it makes it very difficult for the worker to do their job when getting pushed and shoved by hoards of shoppers. I used to get really anxious about doing it.
£2100 Per Month For This Airbnb In Central London
On the plus side, no more having to get out of bed to pee in the middle of the night.
Exactly. This is an AIrbnb and not an apartment and not priced for monthly rental. Surprised that more people aren't picking up on this. They have capsule hotels in Tokyo that cost more and are smaller.

where is the stove? I need to make an omlet, unbelievable, who is the interior designer who build a bathroom without a stove
OK, this one doesn't really track. This comes out to $70 for a place that is usually rented by the night, not by the month. If you were to rent a hotel room for a month it would be outrageous as well. That said, this is comically tiny but what is the going rate for a "real" hotel room in central London?
Get Back To Work Toilets
Except no one actually implemented these. Designs came out around 2018 I believe, employers weren't stupid enough to use these though. Lawsuits just waiting to happen.
I wouldn't put it past call centres to implement them if they owned the properties they operate from. They already time washroom breaks and have limits on employees bowels and bladders. At the place I used to work at, if you took too long the computer system would lock you out and you'd have to go to a manager to explain yourself and get them to unlock you.

No storage companies allow it. People still do, though.

Part of the rental contract for my storage space in the US explicitly states that the "tenant will not live in unit, sleep in unit, or knowingly allow another to sleep or live in the unit." If you get caught, they boot you and your stuff to the curb, and they report you to the police.

When humans don't have jobs, no more buying anything. Automating everything will defeat its own purpose. I donated at Talecris for many years when I was younger. I’ve got permanent scar tissue in my arm that makes me look like a junkie. 20 years ago it helped me pay bills and rent. To this day plasma centers help a lot of people out that need the extra income.

(And yes, I have ADHD, etc, myself, and have donated blood. It was years ago, when I was in college, and I don't remember them asking about ADHD or anything. But it went just fine nonetheless.)

I think its a statement on the cost of textbooks these days, that you have to sell your blood in order to afford them. $250 wouldn't actually buy very many text books depending on what you are studying, its only maybe two or three books if you are lucky.

The Matrix Is Here
Why does a washing machine need to tell everyone I know I wear leopard print knickers with pink tassles ;o)
The washing machine is going to call your mom and tell her how you're not sorting your laundry. Speaking seriously, I have subsequently denied many apps access to e.g. contact information, camera and microphone and the app works despite that.
Interesting that you trust a later-denied access setting. I don't trust any of it. I'd rather install a stone scrub board in the yard & go back to washing by hand than have all my devices talking to each other.

Load More Replies...I find it interesting that so many people feel this is inhumane, yet when they read the news and hear about criminals killing innocent people this is pretty much what they want done to those criminals, and worse. Then there are the people who would rather rehabilitate and reform criminals, help them get to the root of the problem and help them get back on their feet. Those people get called "hug-a-thug". I don't think society really understands what they want. We just speak through emotions and act on impulses. If we're being really, super honest with ourselves, the difference between violent criminals and those who've never committed a violent crime is the criminals didn't give 2 shits and acted on the thoughts that were going on in their head instead of walking away and moving on. But you can't tell me not one of you has ever thought about maiming and/or killing someone who really got you angry.
We Steal Your Water And Sell It Back To You
I'm failing to see how this is worse than any other bottled water scheme..
Please don't downvote 😌 I'm from a small town not far from this company. Montana has been at water wars for a very long time, so our resources aren't eternal. Bottling plants, this one or any other, cause more destruction, waste water and depletion of natural sources than if one were to simply drink it from the tap/source for free.

“Incredible” Initiative From Rock Of Hope In South Africa
I've seen a documentary about a "baby box". It's actually to save the babies life. The box has a sensor to alert the person a baby is in there& he immediately takes it and takes care of it. It was really sad because many of the children have visible down syndrome.
We have one of those baby boxes in town. It saves lives. Even if among millions of boxes it saves one life over decades, it'd be worth it. (Yes, I am pro choice. Still, not everyone can even get an abortion due to availability.)
Load More Replies...This reminds me of the "Safe Haven" act in America, where parents can safely leave their babies at a designated spot. However, as an adopted person, the wording on this sign in horrible. "unwanted baby?" My birthparents wanted me, but couldn't keep me.
One exists in Antwerp. Not officialy supported by government, but totally private initiative. After the a few instances of babies being litterally dumped in the trash, they set this up. Mother goes in, door locks behind her (can only open from inside) and she is totally unseeable from the street. There is 'hatch' in the wall, where the baby can be safely left, blankets, mattress etc. Also some paperworks, where baby's foot and handprints can be taken if the mother would later change her mind and come back for it. More info (in Dutch) here : https://vondelingenluik.be/index/be-nl/2933/
if there is no other way, then this is the way. At least the baby doesn't end up in a dumpster or a river. The woman who gave birth to the child is not always in the position to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, afford abortion or take care of the child herself.
And it is good that they exist. Even if the mother has lost all hope it gives the baby a chance.
Load More Replies...actually in Poland we got quite few of them. they are called "window of life"
I like that wording. It is, despite all the sadness, a means of giving your baby a life if you can't.
Load More Replies...I'm not gonna push a living thing out of me just so that random people don't get their feelings hurt
This is less to deter abortions and more to deter dumping babies in the trash, which is a depressingly common occurrence here in SA. Every year over 10 000 babies are found abandoned, most of them already dead. That's why they installed this. Abortion is legal here and you generally don't have to wade through a sea of pro-birthers to get to a clinic that provides them. The issue is access to education and healthcare. You can only request an abortion if you're less than 13 weeks pregnant (unless your health is at risk, there was incest/rape or there is something wrong with the fetus). Many women who end up dumping their babies didn't find out in time to get an abortion.

"In a city that is trying to address gun violence and safe spaces for young people," Gym said, "how dare we come up with ideas that are funded by taxpayer dollars to turn young people away from the very places that were created for them?"
Incredibly misleading title. The tone is played AT NIGHT, to keep teenagers/young adults from loitering in places like this AT NIGHT, when they shouldn't be there in the first place. Unless these places are staffed 24/7, they're NOT "safe spaces" for teens/young adults at night.
Yes because it's not like adults work night shifts or have any other reason to be outside after dark. You do realise the "only affects teens and twenty somethings" is a complete lie, right? Plenty of middle aged and elderly people can hear these things to. And preventing a 22yr old from walking home from their night shift is clearly different from discouraging a 13yr old from "loitering."
Load More Replies...These stupid things are all over my country (UK). I'm in my 40s and can hear them clearly, and they're physically painful. The idea they only affect teens and 20somethings is a complete and utter lie. (And WHY would you want to implement something where a 25yr old woman with a baby can't pop in to a shop for nappies without walking through a painful noise zone, or 19yr old night shift workers can't walk home without being assaulted by this since apparently "teens shouldn't be outside at night."
TIL that we live in a Black Mirror episode AND that my ear cells have started to die off. Not my favorite day.
A local shopping centre had problems with teenage gangs blocking the entrances and stealing bags. The centre solved the problem by playing 1950s country music on a loop.
I hate country music but I'd much rather hear some 40-something guy singing about his broken heart and his truck than some high-pitched ringing that'll give me a headache
Load More Replies...Yup; they're relatively common in the UK, but while attempts to ban it across Europe have failed many local authorities don't allow its use on public buildings, and it's not uncommon for them to get removed after installation due to pressure from local residents. On the brighter side kids have co-opted the technology to create ringtones that only they can hear, so every cloud etc.

That is not how it is now. The idiot governor in trying to be Trumpy put those boxes there but was then forced to remove them. So he wasted tax payer money for a stupid stunt.
I actually did quite a bit of research on this. Along the border of Mexico and California, New Mexico and Texas, there are miles of gaps that were never filled in. This is because 1) there are obstacles in the way, or 2) they just didn't finish that section. The empty shipping crates seen here should be taken down and put in place as shelters for people with no homes. NOT to block people coming from Mexico.
Or 3) it simply isn't reasonable to put a wall up -- the ground in some areas just isn't suited to supporting any type of structure, for example, and natural barriers (like ravines and oh, the Sonoran f*****g Desert) are at least as difficult to cross. But yes, there are plenty of better uses for those containers.

This isn't a useful chart - just because a country uses more anti depressants doesn't even mean they have more people with depression, it just means people are more willing to seek help for it
and it also implies that taking medication for a mental illness/problem isn't as badly stigmatized. It's actually a good thing if you see those numbers rising imo.
Load More Replies...I use two, though they are also for my anxiety, they are more for my fibromyalgia pain and insomnia
Load More Replies...Very misleading. Antidepressant usage is going to be affected by things like access to healthcare and the social stigma of seeking mental health treatment. Korea has one of the highest s**cide rates of any country. Untitled-6...76-png.jpg
This chart doesn't give you any context though? It's not a very useful chart really on its own. Looking at the actual article the chart is from (posted in 2016 btw) iceland has a high usage because of the lack of available therapy, and korea's usage is so low because they see depression as a sign of weakness, so don't seek out help when depressed. But this chart doesn't tell you any of that. https://www.businessinsider.com/countries-largest-antidepressant-drug-users-2016-2
Yup, exactly! For example, in Slovak Republic, seeking mental health means you must be crazy, there is huuuuuge stigma around it. So people would rather just suffer than ask for any antidepression meds - resulting in nice yet misleading 5th position in this chart.
Load More Replies...South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Mental illness is highly stigmatized there so it’s no wonder that so few people take antidepressants.
Anti depressants aren't meant for long term use, which is what too many people are doing.
Your comment got me interested, so I looked it up: the general consensus is that you should continue using antidepressants for about 6mo after you start feeling better. I feel like people continue to take them long after that because they are worried the depression will come back as soon as they stop taking the meds. Personally, I take antidepressants, (and have done so for about 3 years)—I legitimately don’t know if they’re working or not but keep taking them bc…what if they are? At this point it’s impossible to know bc it’s a mystery as to how I would feel if I didn’t take them.

Sleeping At Work. Japan
If this is for breaks it should be celebrated. Naps and taking time out at work should be encouraged and not laughed at by employers. Even just being able to sit in a quiet place and being able to close your eyes for a few minutes, not necessarily going to sleep, can make you feel so relaxed. Normalise this in the workplace!
It's for "breaks", all right, because you are expected to work 12-14 HOURS A DAY. Do NOT "normalize" this in the workplace.
Load More Replies...This is a thing because you have to show up at work before your boss and can't leave until after your boss leaves. So you are working so hard that you have to sleep at your desk. If you don't sleep at your desk, you're not working hard enough.

Taking naps during work hours in Japan is actually encouraged. While we view it as "lazy," over there it's more like "catch a snooze, you deserve it."
This is misleading. They are encouraged to take cat naps during the day.
