30 Times People Were So Blinded By Their Own Nostalgia, The Internet Called Them Out For It (New Pics)
InterviewAh, The Good Old Days(™)! A time when everything was (allegedly) better: the music, the food, and even the fabric of society. Though… which era are we talking about, specifically? For some, it might be the ‘70s and ‘80s. For others, it’s the ‘90s and early 2000s. While others yearn to live a century or two ago, periods they never experienced firsthand.
Nostalgia is great in small doses, but too much of it can make you miss the beauty of the present. The r/lewronggeneration subreddit is a witty online community that is “dedicated to satirically mocking” folks who are completely and utterly “blinded by their own nostalgia.” We’ve collected some of their most cringeworthy posts to show you how many people wear rose-colored glasses to an unhealthy extent.
Bored Panda got in touch with the team that runs r/lewronggeneration, and one of the moderators, u/oh_dangit, was kind enough to answer our questions. Read on to see what they told us.

J’accuse!
Laughing in European, where we still have both and also accessible health care.
I’m sorry but in Canada it’s very hard to find a car with manual transmission and the schools stopped teaching cursive. It’s not one persons fault
Ontario announced they were mozzarella back cursive in September. Teachers union wants a two year plan before implementing.
Load More Replies...Apparently, they have never heard of Europe. Manual cars are pretty common.
I was taught cursive in school then spent a school year learning how to unuse it, I have a manual driving licence being British, but drive an electric, who wants to change gears when you can drive and relax without worrying what gear you are in.
Americans have always been famous for not knowing how to drive stick.
Sorry, but this Gen X American grew up driving a stick, and doing it well. It served me in good stead when I moved to the UK.
Load More Replies...Whoever said that should probably try out living like THEIR parents at their age. Let's so who's laughing then. A bit silly to get on a high horse for knowing an outdated skill, isn't it? Personally, I don't miss dialing on a rotary phone or rewinding tapes with a pencil and I really don't think the generation after mine should know how or why to do that. XD
The fault of not teaching cursive writing anymore lies with the lazy a*s and inept educational system in this country. On the other hand, we who learned cursive can write notes between each other and the kids won't be able to read them.
Like Three People Will Get This
Well, I'm one (I grew up with cassette tapes). So.... who are the other two here?
uh gen z and i understand this perfectly. my parents were teens in the 80s and i watched wall-e (the one scene where eve messes w wall-es cassette tape and he has to rewind it)
Of course, since there are only three people from the 1970s still alive
And the younger Pandas won't know because they haven't seen it on BP every fortnight
Load More Replies...I think a lot more than 3 of us will get it! My very first piece of music was a cassette tape of Micheal Jackson's Thriller. I was around 12. That album was huge at the time. I used to listen to it constantly!
I'm barely 20 and I get this. It just depends on who you grew up with.
🙋 I may be Gen Z but I have a cassette player that I use all the time!
I’m a gen z yet I still understand this. I have these tapes at home, I can google stuff and I’ve seen movies that include the use of these tapes
I think the last cassette I bought was like in 1990… Paula Abdul. “straight up”. Wow. 33 years ago…can’t be….

I found my dad's old Gameboy today. Sad thing is it doesn't work, but his gamestar does
There's a battery inside the cartridge that may need to be replaced if it's a memory issue
Load More Replies...Grade 12 students (~17 yo) in my country had to do a unit on war poets like Wilfred Owen and Sigfried Sassoon in English. I still remember my teacher pointing out that the boys in my class would have been old enough to be called up and have to witness the things described in the poems first hand. :(
Sega Genesis!!! Loves playing Golden Axe ! And I actually defeated Death Adder once and made it to the end. there was no pausing or restart either lol
Load More Replies...Me too. God help the young ones now. Our leaders are itching to start a direct war with Russia (meantime the deaths of 100s of thousands of Ukrainians) and China. I grew up in the First Cold War. Now we have Cold War II but it seems even MORE dangerous..
Yes, we're all just an elbow-on-the-red-button away from annihilation.
Load More Replies...I was wondering today what that generation were called? The Hero Gen?
I really don't see anything wrong with this. WWI decimated an entire generation of young men all because a bunch of monarchs thought a war would be fun.
No actually, after the assassination of Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, which was blamed on the Serbians… hat was the catalyst on startling WWl but it was one monarch that wanted to rule the world and then in WWll a fücking lunatic 1st cousin marring narcissist wanted to get rid of all “non-aryan nation” people and then rule the world! So there’s that!
Load More Replies...We were interested to get the moderator's take on why the r/lewronggeneration subreddit has seen so much success over the years. "I think that the anti-nostalgia baiting message that is attached to the subreddit and has been there since its inception resonates with a lot of people who don't have strong feelings of nostalgia for one thing or another," u/oh_dangit told Bored Panda.
"One of the core beginnings was based on music; such as people who becry musicians nowadays for creating their own sound and making it unique to themselves," they said.
We were also curious to find out more about what it's like to moderate an online community of this size. According to u/oh_dangit, being a moderator mostly "comes down to dealing with spam and people leaving comments that break rules."
Not Sure If This Has Been Thrown Around Before But I Think It Belongs Here
Romantic music then: Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down Romantic music now: Yummy yummy yummy yummy (no offense, I just wanted to rickroll)
Lyrics from a famous early rap song: "I said-a hip, hop, the hippie, the hippie To the hip hip hop-a you don't stop the rock It to the bang-bang boogie, say up jump the boogie To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat"
Because you wanted to select the opening for 'style' points, the next lines are : "Now, what you hear is not a test, I'm rapping to the beat and me, the groove, and my friends are gonna try to move your feet. You see, I am Wonder Mike and I'd like to say hello to the black, to the white, the red and the brown, the purple and yellow". Or you could've used Grandmaster Flash The Message. But no, go for the cheap laugh with subtle overtones.
Load More Replies...people complain about “todays music” all the time, and while it’s true the majority of pop songs are very corporate friendly-sounding there’s nothing stopping you from listening to old music or looking for more underground artists you could like. there’s always going to be someone creative and wanting to create meaningful art
Complaining about "todays music" is a sure way to see that a person has nothing in mind exept themselves. New music is always different than old. Its the way all music was born, it evolved from the old. And also you can’t make endles amount of the same music, it needs to evolve or it just repeats itself. The music you think is so good, was not good for most of your parents generation. There has always been "frivolous" music and "good" music. Not all music is supposed to be epic, some is just entertainment, not ment to be taken too seriously. Old people are not supposed to like new music. Young people want to have their own thing.
We had c**p rap songs back then too, but nobody remembers those! And for good reason. They were junk!

Load More Replies...WTF? The 1990s? Seriously? Waco? OK City? NYC bombing round one? And that's just in the US...
Actually, the 'f*ck around and find out' era came in the early 80's with AIDS. It was a scary time. I can honestly say all of the 90's were very chill and the music was amazing. The only bad things were the Gulf War and the attack on the WTC, which was the precursor to the catastrophic one.
Lived through the First Cold War in a nuclear target. Strangely comforting as we'd have been vaporised rather than a slow death. Cold War II has expanded to include China and the rhetoric is more dangerous and involves starting a war in Europe that's killing hundreds of thousands. Unless we get leaders who want peace shortly then I think there will be full on war NATO Vs Russia/China - this could very easily go nuclear..
The 90's were awesome, except if you were a girl, trans, gay, POC ... the 90's were also very unforgiving.
I Got No Words
Remember when: What other people might think of us controlled our lives.
Remember when people could live on what they were paid? Me either, that was before my time. I’ll wear my pjs to be comfy while coping with crushing weight of corporate greed’s drain on society.
Remember when having a job meant you could afford to buy nice clothes? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Load More Replies...Seriously, whoever made this must have forgotten seeing all the ladies in the store shopping, while their hair was in curlers and half covered with a scarf. That went on from the 50s to the late 70s.
Can confirm. As a bonus, my Mum used to wear beer can hats over her curlers, which is barely a step above jammies if you ask me, lol.
Load More Replies...Ah yes, a photo of a typical trip to the grocery shop way-back-when. The husband would always accompany the wife. There's no way he would work 9-5 and then go out with the boys.
Imagine thinking that an advertising photo of professional models represents real life. LOL, I was around back then and remember women wearing curlers in the store while cigarettes hung out the side of their mouths.
Exactly. This is clearly a photo shoot. You can find staged family photos of well dressed folks from any time since photography was invented, up until today. House dresses were really commonly worn, and they look dressy to us because dress=fancy in our modern brains, but they were the "hoodie and leggings" of that generation.
Load More Replies...Back in the day, my mother never left the house without wearing a girdle. Not to go to the grocery store, not to go on vacation, or to go to a PTA meeting. Inside the house, she didn’t wear one, but I have clear memories of her struggling to get that damn thing on. I also remember visiting Williamsburg VA one summer. If you’ve ever been in the southeast US in summer, you know what I mean. When we got back to the hotel room free walking around all day, she went to shower and change for dinner. That’s when she found out her girdle’s elastic waistband had melted enough to fuse with her underwear’s elastic waistband, because it was hot that day, and she’d been exercising and getting hot herself with all the walking we did. That was in the early seventies, and the moment I decided I would never wear a girdle—-they’re called Spanx today, btw. I never have worn one, I just try to stay in relatively good shape and buy clothes that actually fit. Now that I live in Maryland, I am much much cooler in summer than my mother was back in the day, I can tell you.
Your poor mother. Admittedly, this reminds me of the movie "Steel Magnolias".
Load More Replies...Women did go out in public wearing something like pajamas during this time though. It was called a "day dress" and it was worn after a woman took off her nightgown but before she was fully attired. Day dresses were knee length shifts that either buttoned or zipped up the front, sometimes cinched with a belt or sash, usually short sleeved, and came in all colors and patterns. And they were frequently worn while the hair was in rollers with a scarf over them. Nobody went shopping dolled up like Jayne Mansfield.
True they did, but it was during the hot summer months, now EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!
Load More Replies...Only time I do that is if I'm at home sick in bed.
Load More Replies...I still don't go out in public in my PJs. I also don't think the grocery store is Fashion Week in Milan.
Remember when your Father's job was enough to have a middle class lifestyle where Mom stayed at home and guaranteed everyone had clean ironed clothes and home cooked meals instead of working two shifts then blasting something in a microwave for dinner?
I remember when women were expected quit their job when they got married and then had nothing much to do but cook and clean for their husband and kids. Yeah, great times.
Load More Replies...They added: "Though there is a lot of reposting since heaps of [stuff] like this is reposted constantly. Maybe in the past, when there were more actual posts and popular posts, I think that there'd be far more time committed to moderating," they said that the times have changed a bit.
The moderator also shared their thoughts on where the line is when someone's become far too immersed in nostalgia: "Looking too much towards the past will only hurt your perspective towards the future," they said.
The r/lewronggeneration community has been going strong for nearly a decade now. Founded in mid-August of 2013, the sub has grown to house over 300k members since that time.
According to the moderator team running the whole show, the subreddit itself was created out of annoyance over the ‘born in the wrong generation’ that fans of ‘60s and ‘70s rock often express. So there’s a special emphasis on music on r/lewronggeneration, but other forms of nostalgia are welcome, too, from other forms of media to societal trends.
Kids Today Are So Stupid
Ah yes, because every young person is eating tide pods these days, definitely not just a small number of stupid people
Afaik the tide pod challenge is part of the weird sense of humor kids these days have. Back in my day we did actually really stupid and dangerous things, like; playing chicken with cars, hitchhiking, modifying mopeds to unsafe speeds and driving without helmets, poking wasp nests just to mention a few
In my day we did all of those as well. Another trend was to steal hood ornaments. I don't think my gen (Gen X/ Xennial) has any room to make fun of stupid kid trends
Load More Replies...Teens have always done dumb stuff. Always. We just like to pretend we didn't. I'm in my 50s and probably really shouldn't have survived to adulthood based on what I did. The good thing was everyone didn't have cell phones to record out idiocy for all time.
I might be just a grumpy old rabbit, but why some of these things ever became popular will forever be a mystery to me. Seriously…what dumbåss decided eating laundry detergent was a good idea?
Don't worry, I'm a teenager and I don't get how these "challenges" become a thing either
Load More Replies...Kids are not stupid, stupidity is currently a big franchise for entertaining, idolizing and money. You can't blame them to want to be popular/viral, when they are feed trash since they are born. In the past we had also this "kind of fun" but these people didn't become millionaires.
I’m part of this generation, and I agree with this. Planking can be a good exercise if done correctly, face tattoos are (don’t cancel me) idiotic (MY OPINION!). I don’t think many people eat tide pods anymore
I always had people trying to buy my dilantin for speedballing. With epilepsy I shouldn't have been using what I was, but I wasn't about to sell the meds I needed.

I've been making year by year music playlists on my youtube channel. I'm currently still on 2008 and it's been about 5 months. I've just been leaving out the country songs. I've done all the 80s and 90s. Every year, for the most part, the numbers of songs increase. There's a ton of songs and bands I've added to my favourites. There's always something for everyone if people would take the time to stray away from the charts. And even though the 90s had some bangers, some of them didn't age well, and I don't think the 90s were the ultimate best era for music, my unpopular opinion.

Breaking news: teens of EVERY generation (yes, it’s true. Some generations worse than others) break the rules, do drugs, drink, cheat, push boundaries, swear, screw, steal, lie etc. You all did at least one of those things, and probably knew someone that did it all. That’s just what teens do, test waters, figuring c**p out, rebelling. It’s just a fact. The only thing that really matters is getting past it all and coming out the other end a sane, healthy, law abiding, loving, kind, well adjusted adult. THATS what’s worth bragging about and being proud of.
Yep, complaints about teenagers are found from literally thousands of years ago. World hasn't ended yet so newer generations can't be that bad. Just feel bad for gen z who get to be vilified by the press now the millenials are getting too old to be as easy a target.

Load More Replies...That was your “orange juice” or “tomato” juice”. I remember doing that at a job when I was 21. Another girls and I were the senior employees. The company had just hired a slew of new people. The f*****g new people got Christmas off, and the other senior girl and I had to work! She took the morning shift, and I took the evening shift. She had her “tomato juice” nd I had my “orange juice”. Thing is, we didn’t decide to do that together, we had no idea until I came in for my shift. We were griping about having to work, and told each other how we decided to protest it. We kept it on the downlow too. I haven’t told that story since the day it happened, 40+ years ago.
We had no alcohol in our county and there was no smoking area in our High school
I don’t think there has ever been a smoking area in American high schools, at least not since “cigarettes cause cancer” news anyway.
Load More Replies...The mods ask the members to post images and videos that fit the spirit of the subreddit. In short, the content should be focused on “quasi-nostalgic attitudes, often with a sense of superiority.” However, posts can’t have anyone’s identifying information displayed in them, whether that’s actual names or internet usernames. The point is to gently mock over-the-top nostalgia, not the individuals themselves.
Moreover, members of r/lewronggeneration ought to avoid posting content that they created themselves. Meanwhile, if anyone’s in the mood for some satire, they’re welcome to go for it, but they have to add the ‘Satire’ flair to make it clear to everyone else.
In the meantime, everyone’s asked to be civil, and polite, and to “keep the elitism at the door.” While disagreements are perfectly fine (and, if we’re honest, completely unavoidable on the internet), calling other users names and insulting them is way over the line. What’s more, the mods frown upon low-effort posts, redditors who spam memes, and repost irresponsibly.

I was looking for this exact comment - I still remember when they called them "traitors" and "cowards" for not supporting the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and how they were blacklisted for the next ten years. Well, twenty years on, we definitely know who was right...

Men Today No Longer Want To Break Free
I believe it was meant the other way like Freddie is the better version than today men❤️
Load More Replies...Nothing wrong with today's men, speaking as a heterosexual. Nothing wrong with Freddy Mercury either mind you, so talented. Sad he passed away so soon after finally meeting the love of his life too, no fair.
Well, one of these has the confidence to be himself loudly and proudly, the other one looks like literally every man on every magazine cover. So, what happened to individualism? Confidence? Self-love?
this post makes absolutely no sense..... Just looking for likes probably
Why is BP mocking Freddie? He was dressed as a woman & doing tedious housework while singing “i’ve got to break free” which seems rather topical
they’re not mocking him, i believe they’re making fun of the old person meme format where they’re usually like “manly man in the 1970s so manly and masculine testosterone what happened, they’re so feminine pink skirt not masculine now”
Load More Replies...I had a fancy dress party for my 30th and I went as Freddie from this video. Can't believe that was 10 years ago.
This caused the band to lose sales in America. Freddie got a load of c**p about this, yet the idea was actually Roger Taylor’s. Each member of the band took a character from the British soap ‘Coronation Street’.
They banned them off the airwaves for this in America.

Boomers were the generation before the Breakfast Club. They didn't get the message then either. S

Modern Cartoons Suck Now
Looney toons is amazing but don’t knock gravity falls please, or the amazing world of gum all for that matter
Star versus the Forces of Evil and Steven Universe aren’t bad either.
Load More Replies...The “cartoons then” spans like 100 years. Every decade of animation can be marked by a specific style or styles. Even Bugs Bunny looks different depending on when the short you are watching came out. Very misleading.
Yeah, and especially more infuriating when you actually remeber just how "cheap", repetitive and derivative the animation in Hanna-Barbera cartoons like the Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, Huckleberry Hound, etc. Most of the times only the head and arms would move, the backgrounds were reused over and over and the animation poses were reused from production to production. So pointing out how four different modern shows who also share a lot of the same people working on them are similar in art style is disingenuous in the extreme.

Invader Zim and the angry beavers were my faves. Although you can't go past old school looney tunes!
In Stoycheva’s opinion, overindulging in nostalgia is similar to overusing salt or pepper in your dishes, leading to the present being “colored by the negative emotions, in favor of glorifying some moment in the past.” There’s a need for balance here so that nostalgia doesn’t consume someone’s life.
Is This Welcome Here?
I don't understand why people turn "generation bashing" into a sport. Every younger generation loses some skill, knowledge or experience that the older generation had, but they gain something new. It's always been that way. Every younger generation becomes the older generation. Time is a river. Appreciate the journey.
Load More Replies...Just as it's ridiculous to characterise all 'kids today' as lazy and privileged, so it's ridiculous to characterise all 'boomers' as selfish and perversely didactic.
Yeah, there's no good stereotype. Would be helpful if people could get into the habit of adding "some" or "many" to these things. Such a small thing could have a big impact on the downright scary levels of anger everywhere these days.

Actually, even during the 60s, there were hundreds of thousands of teens who weren't hippies and went the conservative route. Today there are two types of boomers: those conservatives that make life a pain for the rest of us and the used-to-be hippies that still don't believe in war and are still fighting for all our rights 60 years later.
And used to be hippies that don't care so much anymore or never did actually care about politics or social issues and don't vote or know nothing and vote conservative anyway.

How about lne of the many countries better than ours. America likes to ACT like it's a bastion of freedom but it's not how come you guys always only bring up the worse countries and not the dozens of better?
Load More Replies...I have yet to hear a boomer say kids should kill in wars, and I believe right back to the turn of civilisation that elders demand respect. You get back what you give.
Happens practically on a daily basis here at BP. If you're over 60, you're worse than Hitler. Especially if you're white, male and American.

No, they really weren't. Cars were awful back then. Trust me, I was around to drive them and don't miss them at all.
Load More Replies...They only picked out cars that do look the same. We have other cars!!
I used to love muscle cars. Then I bought an Audi. Cruising at 130+ with AC, all-wheel drive, ventilated seats, and the ability to survive an accident far outweighs any "personality" my old Camaro had.
But that is dumb argument. No one is saying they should just remake old cars. What they are saying is the "style" was better. Wouldn't you want that sweet Camaro, that looks like your old Camaro, but is built using all modern stuff (safety systems included)? We are talking about form factor only, which can effectively have zero relation to safety. Dodge has done this with the Challengers. They have that old muscle car style, but modern everything else. Wish more companies would do this. Imagine getting a modern version of like a '67 Mustang?!

Was this post supposed to be sarcastic? Maybe go back another two or three decades for cars with style. 50s and 60s. Much of the 80s suffered from "generic car face", and were rolling bricks.
Exactly! Classic car lovers are thinking more about something like a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, a 1971 Chevelle(my late mother owned one back in the day), or a 1966 Shelby Cobra. And not all 80s cars were ugly. A 1981 Chevy Corvette is pure sexiness on four wheels.
Load More Replies...Some individual examples where people go overboard with nostalgia include getting excessive plastic surgery in order to create the illusion of youth, hoarding things, and using social media to track down their ex-partners. On a societal level, overindulging in nostalgia can lead to people glorifying their historical past without acknowledging the collective traumas of the past.

I copied a DJ friend's CDs to cassette because I didn't have any kind of CD player and he had a ton of music that i wanted! I had a dual cassette portable stereo and had to use one of those CD to cassette adapters in one side and sync it to a blank cassette in the other. We had to be inventive back then!

I also stopped with cursive as soon as I didn't have to use it anymore. Friggen hate it. Luckily our school only required cursive for two years (4th and 5th grade iirc) and then all the teachers were like "eh don't care, just make it legible"

Vintage Le Wrong Generation
Ok I'm going to sound old af. The problem is with over stimulation and not given a chance to be bored. Always being connected always being fed content constantly. I love games content and the Internet but everything in moderation. Let's you appreciate different things more
I agree with kids not being allowed to be bored for a second, it seems to terrify them and their parents, but give kids some Lego, plasticine, toy cars, whatever, and they'll still enjoy playing with them. Kids haven't changed, we have. Oh, and btw, kids still LOVE having a story read to them, which sadly a lot of parents don't do much anymore.
Load More Replies...One of my good kid memories (60s) is a week spent with the big box after my folks got a new refrigerator. Me and my fiends had so much fun with that box. I mean, I'm not a cat but I can kind of relate.
Those big boxes became so many things...a fort, a house, a spaceship, a car, etc. :)
Load More Replies...Oh come on now, I’m entertained by anything that I can hold in my hand. Includes stuff like phones, pillows, binder clips, paper clips, rubber bands, tape etc.
Okay, I'm born in 1989 and I was bored a million times during the nineties. I had soap bubbles (then still make those) and legos (also make those) and a tamagochi and movies and video games etc etc etc and I still got bored. Kids are allowed to feel bored. The only problem now, that I read in i magazine (Illustrerad Vetenskap ((Illustrated Science))) is that the attention span gets shorter if the kids only are subjected to short videos or quick entertainment. It's not the generation that's wrong, people just need better salaries/work conditions/support so they'll have the time and energy to do slow entertainment with their children.
Nostalgia, according to Stoycheva, is focused on simplicity rather than complexity, so it can backfire as an emotional regulatory strategy because the world itself is so complex. According to her, this can be countered by coming face to face with our own biases and beliefs and tackling uncomfortable feelings of shame and longing.
Ah The 80s, You Know The Time When You Could Make Real Friends And Walk Around Not Being Scared
Same c**p different decade. Only difference is that without the internet there was a lot more ignorance around issues. You didn't know you were living next to a sex offender and that there was a serial killer two towns over.
You still don't know. Most of them just haven't been caught yet.

GRID/AIDs became a thing by the early 80s and it killed a lot of really good people, there were very few treatments and the stigma around this disease was immense. Economically it was a rough decade, better than the 70s but rough- started in a recession and had a big meltdown in the late 80s. We raised ourselves, many homes were one parent or had two working parents and there weren't after school activities so we spent a lot of time figuring stuff out on our own, lots of teen mothers back then. We were plenty scared, gang violence was a big thing and getting really bad by the late 80s. Los Angeles spent a summer hiding from the Night Stalker. Adam Walsh was murdered and we met John Walsh for the first time and learned to be afraid. The concept of date rape wasn't understood, being drunk or high or wearing revealing clothes was consent. It wasn't remotely perfect.
Not forgetting the threat of nuclear war, all the TV ads telling you how to prepare for it, and the TV shows like Threads or The day after.

Load More Replies...I grew up in the 80's. It was ok. Bad things happened then too. Miners strikes. Destruction of the working class. High profile sex offenders getting away with the most awful crimes until way later. Just your regular decade.
Wow, to be so delusional. Real friends? Well they didn't know they were excluded until a few hours or days later. Kidnappings/abductions happened. Rapes happened, and the usual first question of the victim was "what were you wearing? Why were you there? etc" Bullies were around and teachers looked the other way, mainly because it was the privileged jocks or cheerleaders doing the bullying.
Cool, funky clothes? Walking round, not being scared? Lol, obviously this person has never read an 80s teen magazine or they'd know how awful fashion was, with big hair and shoulder pads; and people always had to be careful, there were sexual offenders in the 80s too, you know. Miss the music though!

In engaging in nostalgia, what former self-state am I seeking to recreate? How will this help me and also how can I stay rooted in the present while I also feel the positive emotions of reminiscing? Am I avoiding complex emotions? If so, what are they, and why are they so hard for me? Where else can I seek help in managing my emotions?”
I Too Am Absolutely Horrified By Men On Scooters
In 79 a young adult could afford a clunker and it was simple enough to fix up. Today it might be 1 scooter is all the two could afford.

Today's Generation Is Lazy
As a Gen Xer, I disagree with this. I know people like to portray the Millennials and Gen Z like this, but it's nonsense. My generation got hosed. But nothing like these generations have. I admire how they don't take c**p from companies and challenge the idea of "work hard and you'll get ahead". The truth is their is a natural reaction to companies exploiting them. And all you need to do is open your eyes and you will see it. The model businesses operate under now demands that kind of response. They broke the social contract between between companies and workers. And they did it in a deceptive manner. Pensions, healthcare, and social security are a few examples. They made sure to take care of the Boomers so they wouldn't call foul and let Gen X & Y work old school style without the rewards. And we were too inexperienced to see it. From the time I turned 18 I have seen home costs jump from $30k for a house to $350k. While the federal minimum wage went from $2.35 to $7.25. Insane.
As a fellow Gen X I 100% agree with this. Millennials and Gen X rule
Load More Replies...the last panel is how the 'leader' in the first panel sees the situation.
Bah. A real leader would have had to good sense to load the block onto a heavy duty cart with proper wheels and axle system, instead of those weensy rollers that need constant repositioning. And maybe harness up a proper pack animal. Never follow a dumb leader who doesn't properly analyze the task.
Bottom picture reminds me of when you see roadworks, 3 supervising and one working.
Both my Greatest Generation grandmother and Gen X mom both had to deal with overwork and/or incompetent leadership that they had to put their foot down, so wholly understood when my Millennial self had to do so when I went through the same at my past jobs and if anything, were surprised I put up with each mess for as long as I did.
The last one is backwards, it's three levels of leaders laughing while the underpaid, overworked 'valued team member' drags the sisyphus boulder of a 50-hour work week up the hill of living expenses.
In the 3rd panel there is a Boss but he's in his office ignoring the leaders hard work and giving the newbies raises
In the meantime, Bored Panda has previously written about how people tend to be the most nostalgic for those periods of time when they were happiest. For many, that’s their childhood because they had fewer responsibilities. However, if someone had an awful childhood, you most likely won’t find them reminiscing about that period of time.
Though nostalgia can be a good coping strategy when you’re feeling blue, it can interfere with our daily lives. For instance, if we constantly compare the present to the past and feel like nothing ever measures up in terms of values and quality, then we’ll feel disappointed.
Quirky
Well, some people need big muscles to lift those heavy inferiority complexes.
Load More Replies...Wait, which generation? They normalized all that stuff in the 50's (there are whole Bored Panda articles about bizarro 50's foods)
Umm...in my experience, older generations actually had much more ads for alcohol and cigarettes, and it felt more socially acceptable to drink, there were many songs about drinking and smoking (pretty much every country song I can think of has a reference to drinking or smoking). In the 1940s most superheroes in their civilian identity were portrayed with smoking pipes.
Back then it was socially acceptable to smoke in the office and have cocktails at lunch hour. Even restaurants would ask you ….smoking or non-smoking.

Where's that 'two pictures/they're the same picture' meme when you need it...
Wait .. we are elevating gangham style? My dance of choice is the electric slide!
This is dumb. Throughout the ages silly dances are about having fun doing silly dances. I don't care if it is doing the swim or gangnam style or the hokey pokey or whatever that is in picture 2. If you are having fun doing it then good on you. And I'm kind of chuckling at poster holding up gangnam style as the 'better' dance given it is actually kind of silly if you look at it. But again - if you had fun...
I grew up doing the macarena. There's always silly dances. I'm mid 40's and I still do Gangnam style on Just Dance. I think a lot of Tik Tok dancing is amazing and I really don't get the hate.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'm 36 and did the Macarena.

The death of megaupload ended an era too. Filesharing sites were fantastic for piracy since you'd buy an album, rip the songs and stick them on your megaupload to share with everyone. We had a whole community of people that would take turns buying games/music/movies and sharing it with everyone else. Ah how I miss it.

Ffs this is all boomers do is complain about kids and teens. So what. My kids are 10/14 and do all these things but they do go outside/have friends. They have their own personality they love gaming, dying their hair, cool clothes and damn good music and my eldest is almost always on her phone..every day and I don't care because they are happy. What happened is we learned racism is bad, globalization isn't bad, consent is good, and gender roles suck.
The picture before pornhub is a picture where the woman didn’t even consent and the guy was drunk
It's true! She's done numerous interviews about how awful that experience was and the fact she has to see her assault romanticize ld everywhere!
Load More Replies...Before pornhub there still was pornography. Postcards, magazines, books... Heck, look up "ancient Greek vase", you'll find many examples of vases painted with sexually explicit images, hetero and homo, BTW. Globalization (meaning as the Poster intended, such as people mixing with other "races") has always existed. We, as Homo sapiens, would not exist as we are now if we didn't migrate from Africa and then mix with Neanderthals. We are the results of Globalization. And the first picture is just silly. So people on Tiktok are idiots while poor children forced to punch each other for money is ok and nostalgic? Uh?
Aww Yes, Simple Plan Was The Height Of Early 2000s Music
The whole early 2000s pop punk is the best, New Found Glory, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Green Day just to name a few. I still listen to them daily!
Wait green day is considered 2ks? I remember listening to dookie in the mid 90s
Load More Replies...ah yes, when people thought (and proved) you don't need any kimd of musicianship to cut a record, just power chords and eighth note monotone bass lines. almost as simple-minded/mindless as country.
Todays “Music”
It's not hard to find a record player. You can buy one on Amazon.
Comment On A Morrissey Video…
"I was looking to be a n*b and then I became a n*b and heaven knows I'm miserable now."
And choosing Adele from all artists! I mean, you might not like her or her style but you cannot deny she's very talented and her songs are well written. They could have chosen much less talented singers, to be honest...
Morrissey is a moany bigoted twatwaffle. I hated him in the 80s, I hate him now. This Charming Man my a**e.

Neither have I, but I'm not proud of it, because I don't think people who have TikTok are less somehow... It's really easy to judge, isn't it?

i had tiktok before for memes and roblox elmaoamoamaooamoam mom said i shouldnt have on so she made me stop, best decision ever thanks mama
Tik tok banned in my country, listened to only 1 billie eilish song, never listened to bts and not allowed on twitter. Safe to say that I’m not in the “most of gen z” category
Not Even Giving It A Chance Bruh
OK this is a little true though. Everything wasn't insanely monetized. You could actually find real answers on the web instead of whatever the algorithm is pushing that pays the most. Content in general wasn't geared toward being devisive to push viewership and you could actually watch a whole YouTube video without ads. People were also a lot less mean and less offended by everything. And for some sites there was reasonable moderation. For the record I'm pro moderation but also pro grace. None of us are seen as human anymore online. Just a collection of right or wrong beliefs that Google, meta, etc are figuring out how to leverage for $$$.
I dunno man I kinda feel like the early internet messed me up more than a little.
These People Are Common In The Gaming Community. At Least Someone Called Her Out
i used to physically go to the arcade where allthe games and kids were, back when gaming was a social activity, before gaming was for antisocial basement-dwellers
Gaming is even more of a social activity now than it ever was, you doughnut. Before, you ran into the same 10 kids in the arcade, 8 of which were bullies and would huck you into the trash can upside-down and steal your quarters. Now, I can make friends in other countries and learn about cultures I may never have even heard of when I was a kid in the arcade. And just to clarify: Firstly, yes, I'm old enough to have played in arcades and to have gotten an Atari as a kid, so I do know what I'm talking about, and secondly, I don't live in a basement, yet I still play games. Shocking!

Unsure why people can't appreciate others preferences. It was after my time but I watched it with my nephew. Seems cool just isn't a nostalgia hit for me. Just like he wouldn't have it for Ren and stimpy
Agreed. People seem especially harsh if other people's interests are popular. Seems like a lot of popular things have at least some merit or they wouldn't be popular.

This Person Is Being Edgy For The Sake Of Being Edgy
Plenty of good video games. Just look beyond all the AAA stuff. Even then there is some good AAA games even
There are some pretty damn good AAA games. Just look at elden ring. That game better be setting some standards because it's a near masterpiece to me.

Impossible for this person to have seen every painting created on earth during those years.
And This Meme Is Trying To Make The She-Ra Then Look Like A Positive
ya just remade, and modified a bit. not saying it’s bad or it’s good, it’s just as good as the original
Load More Replies...Y'all know the old She-Ra had a gay character in it right? I mean, look at Bow. Wore a heart on his shirt. Hung out with a bunch of badass women. Yet he never made a move on any of them. Everyone knows he had a thing for He-Man.
we all know the new she-ra is better. villains with clear reasoning, emotional storylines that keep you hanging, relatable characters, and plus the old she-ra’s animation is like a broken fan that fell down, but still tries to keep spinning
Ok, but I actually watched the new series from beginning to end and never watched a single episode of the old one, so....
But the “She-Ra then” does look better than the newer screen grab.
Well, I love the new she-ra, but don’t actually like nowadays music, except Ren
Does This Fit?
Good thing we never expose 7 year olds to straight relationships either since they're too young to "decide" about sexuality
As if reflecting on the “terrible” state of the world (with a remarkable amount of typos mind you) on TikTok will help your depression. Fecking idiot
This is less about nostalgia but more of the "Them V Us" conflicts that really should not be happening. History has taught us this time after time and yet it still happens.
I hate these nostalgia memes and I'm a middle-aged man. I love a bit of nostalgia but I hate the way it is weaponised to make younger generations seem bad. It's just dumb. Every generation complains about "kids today" while simultaneously contributing to the culture they are complaining about. Hate modern movies? How old do you think the studio execs are? Hate the internet? How old do you think the people who run TikTok (and benefit most financially) are?
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." --Socrates

This thread sucks... and also, why did I get downvoted for saying I liked the art style of the GoldenEye game?
There's a lot of bigotry that BP calls nostalgia in many of these posts.
Sheesh, this article sucked. It was pretty much young people bad, old people good. This was a waste of an article.
New rule! Anyone who does some sort of "Blah Blah Blah.... We are not the same" whinge gets an instant swift kick in the shins so that they actually have some real and legitimate pain to whine about.
Your name is Marno, my name is Marco. We are not the same.
Load More Replies...Yes. That is exactly what happens to most people and there's nothing you can do to stop it. It's all perfectly normal, unfortunately.
