Person Online Wanted To Know “What Is The Best Response To ‘Why Are You Still Single?’” And 30 People Gave Their Suggestions
There is a pressure from society that after school you need to go to college, then you need to get a good job, you need to have a car and a house and let’s not forget your social life as well. Besides having friends you need to be in a relationship because how else will you create a family and have kids?
But the younger generation are liberating themselves from these expectations and data shows that more people are choosing to stay single. There was even a study going viral which claimed that the happiest group of people are single women.
Sadly, that doesn’t mean that the expectation isn’t there and people are annoyingly asked “Why are you still single?” That’s not a very tactical question to ask so you can allow yourself to not go into detail and give one of the answers people on Reddit give the curious cats who stick their noses into their business.

People are surprised when they find out my age because they think I am about 20 years younger. I tell them I am still young and healthy because I have never been married.

Last time I was asked this, it was coming, for the second time in a short while, from one of my parents' friends, a man in his 60s, married, very catholic. We were at my younger sister's wedding and I was single. My answer was "I always pray our Lord and Saviour Jesus to send me a good husband". I was so evidently sarcastic that he shut up and never questioned me again.

There's a cheeky little book by Karen Salmansohn called "Even God is Single: (So Stop Giving Me a Hard Time) which gives comebacks and jokes for if you're ever asked the dreaded "Why aren't married yet?" question. My favorite -- the one that's stuck in my memory the longest -- is this: I'm looking for a soulmate, not a cellmate.

Keep those standards up!! I love being married to my husband. That doesn't mean I recommend marriage or even long term relationships to everyone. Lots of people are happier solo, and that's a great thing to know about yourself.

I'm also reminded of a comedian who joked about an old aunt always teasing "You're next! You're next!" at any wedding they were both at. So he started saying it back to her at every funeral.

Ironically, when I actually was single no one asked why I was single but now I’m in a relationship, a handful of acquaintances have questioned why I haven’t found someone yet, presumably because they haven’t figured out I’m lesbian ( even though I’m very open about it) and assume my gf is a weirdly close best friend whom I act like a couple with because I can’t find a boyfriend to fill that role… *sigh*

Finding someone is not a priority. The whole world is waiting to be explored! For the massive population surge over the last 100 years, there's a lot of people to comb through if I even want someone. My focus is elsewhere . . . and I don't have to justify anything!
