Often, I intuitively know something but realize it only after someone says it out loud. If it's a movie insight, then there's no big deal. But if we're talking about an important life lesson, I sure as heck would've liked figuring it out by myself earlier rather than later.

So when I saw this post on r/AskReddit by u/PeakABoo_IFKU, I knew I was in for a treat. The Redditor asked: "What is the best advice you can give someone?" And after scrolling through some 2,000 comments, I think you'd like to see the best ones as well. From taking care of your body to working on your mind, continue scrolling and check them out!

Actually, I remember both the embarassing things that I did and that others did...realizing that everybody is continuously doing mildly stupid things is freeing as suggested above, though. Moreover, I guess we tend to overrate the "level" of embarassment of stupid things, i.e. the same mishap we would find more embarassing when happening to ourself to when we observe it from others.

I don't mind people telling me how they're not ok, it can be therapeutic for them to share what they're feeling. Sometimes all someone needs is some compassion to realize that it's ok to not be ok. But when they're always talking about their problems, aren't helped by a compassionate listener, and never do any thing to address their problems, then I feel that type of "not ok" is not ok—for them or for me.

This one I learned the hard way. Treat everyone equally as we all have the same value. No life's worth more or less. We all exist and each life is valuable. There's nowhere that states that a life is worth more because of skin color, gender, money, education, nationality, culture, success, etc.

I strongly reject this one. There might be some truth for countries like the US where tuition will cost a fortune, but in general, I strongly believe that lifelong learning is essential, that it is *always* the right time to try out learning something new, and that *any time* in life is the right time to find out what you want to do; taking up studies may well be part of this process, regardless of whether you retain these or soon give them up again.

You can learn without going to college. I tried college 20 years ago when I wasn't ready. NOW I'm acing it. It's so unfair to kids this emphasis on further education. I think it should be either for those who are extremely passionate about the subject, or those who are extremely gifted. Soooo many kids have spent 3+ years grafting, racking up massive debt, and can't find work, because they were sold a dream about going to college. Lifelong learning and study? I'm all for that, but it doesn't have to be college.

Sadly, in the U.S. it seems a college degree is the new high school diploma. Jobs that can be done without a degree often require one, but the pay doesn't reflect that. It's ridiculous. I'm glad that I work in the trades and I encourage anyone to do so.

If college is not for you, learn a trade. Or better still get an apprenticeship. Everyone needs the person who can fix the electrics, or boiler, or build your decking. Whatever you then chose to do in life, you always have a skill to fall back on.

I'm all for life long learning, but I can't handle the whole college thing of assignments, reports, essays, exams, all those kinds of things. I want to learn about things I am interested in but simply for knowledge's sake. I would love to go and take classes in what I'm interested in and have the opportunity to research what I have heard in lectures. All for learning sake. If it turns out to be not what I thought it would be, I can walk away. I'd be willing to pay for this, but at a lot less cost than actually "going to college". There are things that I know very well and am capable of learning at a college level. Dont count me out on that.

I recently returned to school, 15 years after my original attempt. I only went to college after High School because I thought that's what I was supposed to do. I didn't have any idea what I wanted to study, and I wasn't in any way ready to be attending. All of these years later, I actually appreciate learning and being a student. I strive to do well, and I understand the financial sacrifice. I am ready now; the only qualifier I previously had was being the right age. It is such a vastly different experience, and I'm glad that I went back! I believe that is what this commented was intending to mean...

I agree. If you don't know what you want to do don't waste people's(parents that take loans out for you, grants/scholarships of people that take things seriously) most kids go because it's "expected" of them and to continue to party. Personality I think the beginning of college"required" classes should be high school classes or free due to every student having to take these! But don't go to college just to say you've been to college there are plenty of jobs-vocational schools that are better. Especially if you don't know what you want to do as a job.

I agree that going to a 4-year university/college right after high school is not always the best. However, I would also say that if you aren't ready for a 4-year college (which costs the big bucks), try going to a community college before choosing to delay higher education. For me, I had no idea what I wanted to study, so going to a 4 year right away was just not going to work. By going to a community college (at least in USA) Classes are less expensive and you have more freedom to explore different subjects, accumulate credits, and even learn a trade without the hefty price.

Meditate. Try. Every morning. It has freed me from some of the dark side effects of my mental illness.

Also, establish a great morning routine and night routine and stick to it. Practice gratitude every day.

Let go of resentment and hatred you have for others. No matter what they’ve done. Forgive. Forgive. Forgive. Forgive does not mean you tolerate what they’ve done or that what they did was okay- but it is meant to free YOU. So you can move forward and reclaim the power you feel you’ve lost. You can be compassionately wrathful and stand up for what’s right without hate in your heart. Hate only hurts you in the end.

Ie. My brother was murdered- but I have never hated the man that killed him. I don’t have to live with that resentment in my life
