We’ve gathered some of the worst examples of folks being deeply ignorant about other counties and still posting their thoughts online. From lacking even the simplest idea of geography to having nonsensical ideas about other places, some people should perhaps open up a map at least once.

We also got in touch with travel writer and adventure Vicky from vickyflipfloptravels.com and she was kind enough to answer some of our questions about travel as a way to expand your mind. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote the worst examples and be sure to share your own experiences in the comments below.

I (a Canadian) was just in the States and they still take your credit card from your table at the restaurant!! We've had the chip and tap here for a long time, and there's machines that they bring right to the table to make payments. Americans are so far behind on payment technology. We also don't have the penny in Canada either, and every time I'm in the USA I remember how much the penny sucks.

Bored Panda got in touch with travel writer and adventure Vicky from vickyflipfloptravels.com to learn more about travel, a fantastic way to avoid making a fool of yourself online, and she was kind enough to share some of her thoughts. First and foremost, we wanted to know what she would have told her younger self, if she could.

“Get yourself to South America! Pick somewhere to stay for a few months and settle in a bit to explore deeper,” she shared. Interestingly, she may have picked up on the region's growing popularity with digital nomads, who are flocking to the continent.

Of course, traveling is easier said than done, with any degree of comfort costing money. So we wanted to know her opinion on paying for convenience versus trying to make your money go as far as possible. “Whatever works for you! Cleopatra was Greek. She was a descendent of Alexander the Greats general, Ptolemy I Soter, who was Macedonian Greek.

Cleopatra VII was Egyptian (and therefore African) by nationality, and Greek by ethnicity. But she was not Sub-Saharan African by either, and therefore not black-skinned. As for the African-American gaff -- white-skinned Americans have been so trained that that is the only acceptable term for black-skinned people that they apply it to all of them. Nevermind that it's a term that never made any sense (black-skinned Americans aren't from Africa) or that it's deliberately "othering" by implying their origins are more foreign than that of white Americans.

I think some Americans just never thaught about it. Is it taboo or domething to say someone is just black? And that‘s why you say „African American“? I seams so at least. And if one uses always that one term to say someone is black, then it becomes just the term for black people. It‘s just…. how do you call it? Gewohnheit…. a habit

I was reading an article on CNN a number of years ago, about an assault in Germany on a black German citizen (born in Germany, only spoke German, parents had immigrated from Africa). The correct term would have been "Afro-German", yet CNN called the man "African American" multiple times in the article. I just stared at the screen, thinking to myself, "that's not how it works".

Some context: "the hate around the show" refers to the substantial negative opinions about Netflix' "Queen Cleopatra" which used a black actress to portray an actual person who was of Greek ancestry. The person in the post obviously doesn't know (that we know for a fact) she wasn't black, and for some reason seems to think that all black people, regardless of ancestry should be referred to as African American.

LOL! This is one of the hilarious effects of political correctness. In the 1960s and 1970s, most decent white Americans got convinced never to use the N word. In the 1970s and 1980s, use of "colored" became taboo. By the 1980s and 1990s, political correctness warriors tried to ban "Black" in favor of "Persons of color," a term which was designed to create unity among racial minorities, but obviously couldn't work when you specifically meant American victims and descendents of victims of extreme, horrifying, soul-burning racism, so "African American" was pushed. But there was never a consensus about how to refer to Black Africans. Thus many Americans, including America's top TV anchors, have foundered on what to call Black people, err... "African Americans" ... who aren't Americans. I remember one Olympics anchor fumbling over "unAmerican African Americans who aren't Americans" to describe Africans.

When, as you say, most decent white people got convinced never to use the N word, what did they get called? Why, "politically correct", of course (or worse), the term you use. Irony is hilarious too.
