40 Things People Said That Indicated They Don’t Realize How The World Really Works, As Shared In This Online Community
People have the best knowledge of what they have experienced and to be more aware of what is going on outside their life’s bubble, they have to interact with people who are different from them and to actively search for that information.
Otherwise, they might make themselves oblivious and out of touch with reality, which could make them look stupid in front of others. Ignorance is not bad in itself as it is impossible to know everything, but sometimes it is hard to believe how certain knowledge has not reached a person.
Not realizing that there are people who can’t afford a house or having gaps in general education are some things Redditors considered to be common knowledge that doesn’t belong just to a single society group, but they were wrong and told some funny and frustrating stories answering the question “What did somebody say that made you think: ‘This person is out of touch with reality?’”

I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for some rich clients. Old money. These people know nothing about reality.
The best one I heard was this family I was working 12 hour days for. Good pay, terrible schedule. At one point I was bouncing their baby on my knee and the Mom goes “Being a mom isn’t that hard. I don’t know why other women complain about it so much”.
While her nanny is literally caring for the baby.
Pretty much any time I see someone yelling at a Starbucks or other service employee. They come into a crowded shop, wave their big $5 bill around like a high roller, then yell at a 16 year old for making their coffee incorrectly. Lame. If you find yourself to be one of the people yelling at service workers, fix your own problems before telling other people what to do.
Why should they? That kind of attitude has always worked, so why change now? When I became a manager in retail at a theme park, I was finally able to get revenge on those assholes. And I will take up for any service worker getting abused.
There are a lot of older fugly apartment buildings near the house I grew up in.
My friend at the time that lived a very privileged lifestyle, $200-300+ weekly weekend dinners with the family, timeshares over the place, skiing and snowboarding trips, etc. She was like why would anyone want to live in these apartments? I would never
I was like, people that live there don't have a choice...
Showed a parent the security footage of her 8th grader hitting a teacher. She claimed the footage had been edited. Sigh…..
My sister taught 6th grade English. More than one parent was required to sit in on their kid's classes. The kids still acted up because their parents refused to hold them accountable. The most common comment from the parents, and I use that word lightly, "We can't control him/her." When it came to the report cards, and the kids failed, they would storm in yelling that it just had to be the teacher's fault. Sure it is. No homework was turned in, every test failed. Yep, it's definitely the teacher's fault.
Me: telling someone I’m a type 1 diabetic
Rando: “you shouldn’t have eaten so much sugar as a child”
Also:
“Are you still diabetic” - P.A. At a checkup
Plus the limitless amount of “cures” people have for this incurable disease.
once got in an argument with a girl that people would rather die of starvation than eat something that's carcinogenic. I asked if she was seriously saying people would choose to starve to death over the course of a month than risk potentially developing cancer in a few years and she said yes.
I asked if she'd ever gone an entire day without eating before or knew what that felt like. she hadn't.
Billionaires and multimillionaires singing 'Imagine' while sitting in their gigantic mansions largely unaffected by the pandemic.
Had someone today tell me they are anti vaxx because 2 days after thier daughter got the covid shot she turned gay
Went to a super rich girls house, she had had a baby 2 months prior, she had nannies coming in and out maids and a literal house manager plus PAs etc. and she was bragging about how she was back at work so soon and how she doesn’t know how people can stand doing ‘nothing’ for so long.
And when the baby says "mama" for the first time, it's for the nanny.
"I'm entitled to my opinion" when presented with facts showing they were wrong.
This bothers me sooooooo much. Opinions are not facts. Facts are not opinions. You are entitled to the opinion that Nickelback is a good band. You are even entitled to the opinion that certain Presidents/Prime Ministers are good/bad at their jobs because you can narrow your opinion down to very slim frames of reference (BoJo *was* the right guy to get Brexit done (unfortunately)). But you do NOT get to opine on whether the Earth is flat or whether vaccines work effectively.
"Nobody has ever died from rationing their insulin, nobody" - My FIL. That was an odd take of his, I'm still kinda puzzled over it. People have died doing almost anything. He didn't think they died from rationing something that costs hundreds of dollars per week though.
Still say those drug cartels need to manufacture legit epipens, insulin and chemo. They could undercut the pharmabro by a decent amount and still be making huge profits.
Load More Replies...Even if they DON'T die from it, and many do, they suffer long term damage to their eyes/nerves/kidneys due to uncontrolled blood sugar.
I have read at least two specific stories I can think of where people died from rationing insulin. Seems like it would be pretty easy to prove him wrong.
People like that don't listen to proof; they reject everything that doesn't fit their narrative.
Load More Replies...It's sad that people think they would have to ration a life saving thing because it's just way to expensive for lower class family's to afford, and we have also got billionaires having space races. 😮💨
Lower class? Hell, middle class can't afford it, and it stretches upper-middle class.
Load More Replies...Insulin used to be much more affordable. Greed is the ONLY reason it no longer is.
Yes, the person above saying they have to cover production costs is delusional. Yes, by all means cover production costs. It cost, at most, 6.18 , in 2018. Lets double that cost in 4 years. Then even the companies selling it for twenty five are making over 100 percent profit. GREED.
Load More Replies...In the case of my husband, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017, resulting in complete removal of his pancreas, gallbladder and spleen, yes, rationing insulin could kill him. He took a trip to Mexico a few years ago, and realized he hadn't packed his nighttime type of insulin, so luckily was able to get some in a pharmacy there. The cost was something like $10, compared to hundreds in the US. Very happy and feel fortunate and grateful every day to say he is still alive, and doing very well.
I love your comment. I think people here in America don't understand that our wages has the greatest effect on medications.
Load More Replies...My daughter is diabetic. My greatest fear is when I'm gone she'll have to struggle just to get a drug that she will literally need to survive.
Alec Smith from Minnesota died because he couldn't afford insulin. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/insuluin-prices-diabetes-alec-smith-b1972475.html
True, thanks, couldn't remember his name. I'm from MN and a new law and program, where people can get a free emergency supply, just got passed because of him. And the pharma companies are suing to try to STOP it!
Load More Replies...It got more expensive during Obama administration. This ain't his fault either it's all big pharma and the stock holders in congress
Load More Replies...I'm a paramedic and can say first hand that, yes, people die from this. Insulin is medicine. For medicine to work properly you need to take enough of it. Rationing means you are using less. It's that simple.
I just want to say thank you for everything you all do. My mom is diabetic, and sometimes forgets she's not supposed to take it late at night. We've had a few instances where I've come over and she's in medical destress from lbs. Cant make her eat if she's incoherent. You all have saved her life so many of times, thank you!!! <3
Load More Replies...Medicine should not be so expensive. I recently lost insurance so when I went to the dr I called my regular pharmacy to find out how much it would be for my daily medicine. $168 for 60 pills. I asked my Dr if their pharmacy had a better price and told her how much it was at mine. She was shocked. She told me to hold on and left the room. She came back a few minutes later and said the pharmacy they use next door it was only $48. Wtf. Why is there such a price difference? Plus I know that even the $48 cost was Still a hiked up price so my old pharmacy is basically price gouging. I used to work in a call center doing Medicare pharmacy stuff. The number of people I talked to who had to choose between food and medicine or who called trying to find the best option for their expensive meds made me sick. We kept a list of resources that they could check to get help paying for their meds. Also for all kinds of things you can find a list of resources and help at 211.org and then pick your state.
I work in the inpatient pharmacy for a hospital and some people do end up dying from rationing their insulin. By doing this their blood sugars remain uncontrolled. Left long enough, this damages internal organs. Sometimes so severely that we can't save them. It's heartbreaking. No one should ever have to ration their medications. Governments have to start doing better for their citizens.
Tell him to look up Alec Smith. He was a young man and Type 1 Diabetic that was rationing his insulin and taking it every other day because it cost more than his rent. He advocated for a cap on insulin cost. He died because he couldn't afford his medication anymore.
Might be worth moving to a better country, I pay $80 for a 6 month supply
there comes a point when all of the love and patriotism to your country goes away.if you have to work 3 jobs just to afford insulin ,a medicine that is a life saver,a medicine people would die without... just move while you still can. shure my work pay sucks ,but the fact i can work as a dishwasher ,afford a small apartment and have zero wories on how to get insulin, should be an eye opener for some
Or not buy your loved one an Epi Pen to save their life cuz you don't have a spare 6-9 hundred US Dollars.
Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes is hard on your liver, kidneys, and heart. My fiance almost died from this. He didnt have medical insurance and we couldnt afford his insulin. He had a botched quad bypass over a year ago and is still bedbound.
Covid has screwed many other people outside Canada that come here to get their insulin for a tiny fraction of the cost.
The actual answer is: Yes, people do and have died from "rationing" their insulin. Insulin is not optional in the functioning of a healthy body. Diabetics require the insulin their body can't make itself... many wear autopumps to control the release of insulin as required. "Rationing" insulin WILL kill you.
Don't get me started about insulin...costs, anxiety when running low and insurance companies being asses, the costs without insurance...damn, too late, looks like I started.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/cost-of-insulin-by-country
Canadian scientists sold the insulin patent for a dollar because they KNEW people would die if it was pricey...what are these pharmaceutical companies not getting...it's like chemo treatment....lives are literally at stake here?!..... forgetting profit for even a minute, won't kill you
Sounds like a dad who is afraid that you're spending too much money from HIS side of the family...
I know this is just a stock photo, but Eli Lilly has a discount card on their website. It's a short survey-style process, and then you print out the piece of paper. It's $35 for what your monthly supply, once a month.
Um...yes they have 😭& this is why health insurance should be free for everyone in America & healthcare shouldn't be "for profit"💔.
I had to ration insulin for a while. The FIL in this case is an ignoramus.
In America you have to ration your life saving drugs, because in America, you have "freedom" but life isn't a right..
What a ridiculous thing to believe... I mean, you could basically describe certain types of diabetes as the body 'rationing' insulin, which will kill you... that is why you need to take insulin. Some people believe the wildest s**t.
You could basically describe certain types of diabetes as the body rationing insulin... which kills you if you don't have access to insulin. What a ridiculous thing to believe..
Your FIL is an eff'n idiot! Rationing insulin does lead to death for some diabetics. Been covered in the news.
And then you have to take more when your blood sugar drops to near death levels. keep rationing dude
Nah, we just get major organ damage, blindness, limb amputation, sometimes severe neuropathy, lowered quality of life... oh, but it's fine so long as we don't actually *die* from it, I guess (FYI, people totally die from it).
All the people in this thread just spouting " change country", "move" are so clueless. You can't nust move to another country. You need permission, in most cases a job, etc. It takes money to move. Almost half the people in USA would be in real trouble if hit with an extra $400 expense, much less the thousands to move.
If you're spending 100s a week, you need to talk to your doctor about getting an older generic. Stop buying the newest, under patent insulin if you can't afford it.
I currently have to ration my Insulin, s**t sucks, I only eat twice a day and it takes 40-50 units just to keep me below 200 and while I am southern man who enjoys a big meal, I don't eat anymore than anyone else. I'm dividing by f*****g 7 at this point. And dropping 27 units of lantus before I go to bed and when I wake up. Just to keep myself below 200. It's f*****g b******t. $60 a damn month and i barely have enough to survive
The irony when people are so out of touch with reality they demand either expensive analog insulins or they won’t take anything and die……. When you can walk into any Walmart and get a one month supply of novolin for $25 without a prescription……. All because they don’t want the inconvenience of feeing shaky for 30 mins after taking it. Welcome to the world of asthmatics but none of us are refusing breathing treatments or inhalers because they don’t have a version that doesn’t make us shaky.
It is more than inconvenience!!!! Look up why people aren't prescribed the older version. They are more likely to DIE. They have to keep much closer track of their food intake, more blood sticking to keep track of their sugar levels and adjusting dosage based on the numbers. Even if you are conscientious about all that, mistakes happen and you die from over or under dosing. Do you want your loved one playing Russian Roulette with their meds? Other civilized countries do not have this problem. Universal health care costs much less than our system and by every measure from patient satisfaction to number of deaths is far better.
Load More Replies...medical care should never be something you must ration. This is horrible to know and unfortunately it is in places that are not third world countries. people have to make choices to eat or not have medical care or pick their health over a warm place to sleep. It's heart breaking what alot of people have to do in a world that could very well see this not happen if humans would work together with out power and control in there mind.
I honestly don't understand what it means, you should ration your medication to save money? Am I getting this right??!
Its sad they charge so much for it knowing even poor people HAVE TO HAVE IT OR THEY DIE. And yes most definitely people die all the time from trying to ration insulin. Sad but true.
Poor US. My mother gets so much insulin, she sometimes has to throw it away. Wish they could send it to people who need it instead. Is US the only country of maybe africa too?
Maybe you shouldn't have a shopping cart full of cupcakes, chips and processed foods and alcohol when picking up 9 vials of insulin. Working at a pharmacy I have 1st hand seen it happen. Diet and exercise type 2 diabetes can be avoided and controlled.
Piss off. You don't know 100% who they are buying that for. Would you think the same thing if a thin person with type 1 diabetes came in to purchase that with their insulin?! Hurts them worse than a lot of type 2 people. Let people live their lives.
Load More Replies...You also shouldn't give yourself a disease that costs hundreds of dollars a week simply because you can't stop shoveling food in your cakehole. And before people start whining at this, keep in mind that in the late 50's the total number of diabetes cases in the US was 1.7 million, 90% of which were type 1. Fast forward 60 years, and there are now 38 million diabetes cases....and 1.7 million of them still type one, while the population has nearly doubled.
Welp. I'm a type 1. So I certainly didn't give it to myself. The majority of the people who die from rationing their insulin are type 1s. I'm not saying it's not harmful for type 2s to ration it out. It absolutely is. But a type 1 literally can't make ANY insulin on their own. So when they have to ration it out, sometimes it's entirely useless and kills quickly.

Load More Replies...Really? Oh my, I guess I'll just have to tell my neighbour, whom is disabled, that her insurance covers her insulin and she shouldn't have a $500 co-pay... Many health coverage providers don't cover insulin, or have such high co-pays and premiums that people have to make the choice between having a roof over their head and/or food in their belly and a medication they need to survive. This isn't a third-world country, this is happening in a country that people like to claim is the 'best'.
Load More Replies... Sophomore year of high school, in my biology class, this one girl got into a conversation about what causes the winter season with the teacher.
And she goes, “winter happens because the sun turns cold, right?”
Honestly, I’m still having trouble processing that one, and it’s been eight years.
Wharton students were interviewed asking what they though the average income was. 25% said 6 figures. The same question was asked at a local community college and the collective agreement was $15k
My aunt was bragging that her knee surgery cost her zero dollars because of Medicare. I said “yeah, that kind of socialized medicine is nice”. She the threatened to “take me out back and beat my a**” for saying that.
Your aunt is mentally weak, sorry. She's like the Spongebob of brainpower.
Whenever a disabled person shares their experience and a non-disabled person tells them how they can "fix" all of those problems.
I could write an entire dissertation on this. My best friend is visually impaired but has tunnel vision. She has no peripheral vision, and people tell her to get glasses, which she has, and tell her she doesn't look blind, so she must be lying. There is so much more I can say, but I am too angry just thinking about this.
Working for a super wealthy client who lived in the most expensive gated neighbourhood in the country... A Walled community, filled with old money and old political families, and he was complaining about "the elites" who the f**k do you think you are ? Joe F*****g 6 pack?
When liberals complain about 'the elite', they are often referring to the rich/super-rich. When conservatives b***h about 'the elite', they generally mean the educated. Stupid, rich, and conservative is the worst combo.
my sister, who traveled from the US to europe for the first time when she was 15 and has now lived there for over 5 years. We were talking about reasons people join the military and I mentioned a friend of mine who grew up on a reservation with very little and joined because he wanted to travel and get out of the rez. She looked at me and said “why can’t he just save up if he wants to travel?”
I’m 27 years old, grew up with most of the same privileges as her, and have never had the time or resources to leave the country. But she thought it was reasonable for a historically disenfranchised community member, growing up with nothing, to save up his money in order to leave home and travel.
When my boss said “My word is better than getting it in writing.” I can think of several instances where they’ve promised something or given their word on only to later renege on the deal.
I'm a 911 operator and had a man call 911 because the internet at the hotel he was staying at got disconnected. I told him it was not a police issue and he would have to talk to the hotel staff and/or just wait for it to reboot. He responded, "Not a police issue? This is criminal. If I unplugged someone's life support, isn't that a crime?"
Misuse of the 9-1-1 system. Let's see how you feel in a jail cell. Wishful thinking on my part.
Me, homeless at the time and working my way out of it.
Coworker: I don't know why people go on game shows for money, winning 100,000 dollars wouldn't be life-changing, anyway.
Had a coworker that noticed an item’s tag said Made in Vietnam. She’s said “ Made in Vietnam? That’s a place? I thought it was a war !! “
My husband's friend insisted on taking us to the 'best, most authentic' Chinese restaurant in town.
I'm Chinese. He's a Jewish guy who has never been to any Chinese speaking country.
The food wasn't good, nor was it authentic.
He had the most smug look on his face when he sat back and quirked his eyebrow at me as if expecting me to heap praise onto him. Anyway, I didn't.
Best part is that they aren't friends anymore (I had nothing to do with that, I promise), so now I don't have to pretend that crab rangoons are the peak of Chinese cuisine.
American "Chinese" food is good.. some places are better than others. But nothing compares to real Chinese food. My brothers fiancé is from China and her family always has big dinner parties and OMFG... I never knew that American Chinese food wasn't actual Chinese food until I ate at their house. I'm just angry that there aren't any authentic places in the US because it's so much better than what is being sold here. I don't really remember some of the dishes they made. I just remember her mother lecturing us about how Americans ruined Asian cuisines and how she's on a mission to correct this atrocity! Oh and her red bean cakes and moon cakes were amazing! I had never had Chinese desserts before. I think she made some kind of mango pudding too one time that ruined all pudding for me. Nothing compares now.
I heard someone yesterday suggest that children should operate heavy machinery to address supply shortages.
Turns out that guy happened to be the fricken prime minister.
Not that it's a good solution (or that they would have the aptitude for it), but what small child WOULDN'T want to operate an excavator?
People wonder why there isn't more eyewitness accounts of 9/11 because surely everyone just pulled out their phones?
B***h please. Back in 2001 most people were still using 35mm film cameras, camcorders were usually VHS and digital ones were not cheap in the slightest, and the US was behind the curve on cellular technology anyway. I was in the US a few months before 9/11 and even in New York people didn't understand what SMS was let alone had a phone compatible or were using it.
How is there an amount of eyewitnesses of 9/11 that makes people wonder why there isn't more? I mean, i'm a stupid alt-left radical commie anti-America extremist, but i think that if the tallest buildings in the city had a passenger jet aircraft fly into them and turn into a dust cloud of smoke and non-melting steel beams, i'd notice it.
A friend of mine in college was absolutely shocked when I and several other friends pulled out our childhood/hometown public library cards at dinner one night. She could not fathom that all of our families went to the library regularly when we were growing up and that this is an extremely common experience for a lot of people. When I asked her what she did when she wanted to read books growing up, she said "My family just bought them all."
One of my dreams. Own books. I have been able to acquire books and will keep those that I want to re-read. All others go to the library.
Former roommate declared, "I'm an only child, that means I don't have to be nice if I don't want to."
I was 16 years old, in Driver's Ed, and the teacher asks us an extra credit question. "Why are there interstates in Hawaii? You can't drive there from any other state."
A girl in my class raised her hand and asked, "Was it because they were built before Hawaii broke off?"....This girl thought it was a possibility that Hawaii broke off, and drifted to the middle of the Pacific ocean, all in the last 50 years.
Also, Hawaii has interstates because, if a highway is funded by the federal government, it's simply called an interstate.
My old boss was railing on me for placing an order late and getting charged more after missing the ‘early bird special’, when I had been reminding her consistently for at least two months (gradually increasing my urgency that she needed to make up her mind). She was yelling at me and then said, “$$$ might not seem like a lot to you but it is to me!”
This coming from the person who set my wage, signed my checks, owned 4 substantial homes, had MILLIONS of dollars worth of artwork, designer everything, etc… While I was living in a 250sq foot garden studio apartment with my partner, which flooded when it rained longer than two days, making her hundreds of thousands of dollars from sales, with no commission.
My aunt is a bit into that. She's done really well for herself but has forgotten that not all of us are retired engineers who play the stock market for funsies part time. She suggested Thanksgiving at my place one year, and I had to remind her that I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment and inviting around 15 people there wasn't going to work.
I was involved in a nonprofit for women in my last city maybe 2 years back. My ex (we were 27 at the time) was from a rich area of the state, and the mean income for this area was $31k. A teacher talked about how 500+ kids in her school were homeless, abs how seniors would pool their money together to get a hotel for days or weeks at a time.
I remember telling my ex about it, and how awful that’s gotta be to be 17 and living with 10 others in a hotel. He said “they’re stupid. If they had any brains, they’d buy a house so they could get equity; the hotel is just them throwing their money away and not getting anything from it.” He was 100% stuck that these 17 year olds, with no addresses, who are MINORS, can apply and qualify for a mortgage. I fussed at him and don’t regret it, because he is so out of touch with reality. Eventually he went on months later to say he talks down about other people and acts like he’s better than everyone because he is better than everyone.
Edit to add: to clarify, he suggested the high schoolers should all buy a house, not my organization. Household income was about 10k higher than individual. His parents were loaded, so he never had to really pay for anything until after college, and even then he didn’t have to pay for housing for the first 3 years of his career, and even still, 95% of his (nice) furniture and everything was given to him. It’s very easy to brag about your 401k when you NEVER had to allocate money towards rent, loans, etc.
He would have been an EX the first time he said something that stupid.
i’ve genuinely heard someone comment on a homeless person asking why they “don’t just get a home”…
f*ck this y'all i'm picking myself up by my bootstraps *grabs bootstraps and source engine noclips out of the atmosphere*
Some guy whose parents paid for his college tuition mentioned to a coworker who has $107,000 in student loans say he should be able to pay it off in 5 years.

Older coworkers asking me why poor people keep spending/borrowing money when they know they'll never pay it back..
Lol, like to live? What's the difference in $2k or $20k in debt when you know you'll only ever be paying back $0?
It's kind of liberating when you accept that you'll always be in debt. I'm getting a MA and buying a house. I'll die in debt. Good luck collecting the money then.
One of my relatives "Joined the illuminati" on facebook.... On. Facebook. He was really serious too and excited about it.
My fiance is a doctor, I'm an engineer her and I grew up VERY blue collar. We still have tons of student debt to pay off before we can reap the benefits of a good salary.
Her friend, a doctor who was a resident when she was in med school, was talking to us about the new house she bought, and kept asking us when we planned on moving out of our s****y apartment and getting a nice big town house. She couldn't comprehend that unlike her, our parents aren't rich, and they can't buy a house for us in CASH, and let us pay them back interest free.
I love her to death, she's a sweet friend we have known for a long time. She has done so much for us in terms of friendship and emotional support. But her mom was a successful surgeon, her dad retired early after selling his successful business.
There are poor people in the world who cannot for the life of them imagine what the life of a rich person is, and there are rich people in the world who have never, ever had to be confronted with what a poor person's life is like. They are surrounded their whole lives with people like them, and they really don't have a clue that there is anything else.
Had a girl ask what happened to the Mongolians in history class. She said “there’s not like a present day Mongolia or anything”. She sat under the ten foot wide world map, Mongolia was about two feet above her head.

When the United States legalized same-sex marriage, and Americans said they were going to emigrate to Canada. 1) Canada and Norway are the first countries to legalize same-sex marriage 2) You have to apply to emigrate to Canada. It takes years and tons of paperwork, and you still might be rejected.
Yeah, I don't remember Americans having ever been invited to Canada...just sayin'. - Sincerely, all Canadians

Load More Replies...I don’t blame wealthy people for not being constantly acutely aware of how other people live. I do blame them when, if confronted with how poorer people live, they won’t take a minute do some simple math in their head. Like the wealthy woman who told me that if I visited Europe I should be sure to stay for at least a few weeks or a month and take my time, when she knew that, at that time, I made $18,000 a year. WTF?!
yep, arrogant as hell though. At that salary, which here is considered moderately low middle-income, there's ZERO chance of overseas travel. You need to be getting ballpark $ 30 000 per annum to stand a chance.

The amount on stuff that did not really happen in this list and the ones that were meant as jokes far out weigh the real ones... lol
Some of these were funny... But the ones making fun of teens for not knowing how the world works were kind of sad. Like... they're still kids, they're pretty new here, they only know what they've been taught and exposed to, which is a reflection of their schools and caretakers, not of their intelligence. Like, yeah, a 16 year old should know these things, because someone should have taught them. What, do you think they learn how the world is by osmosis? Just because they have access to social media doesn't mean their phones can auto download all necessary knowledge into their brains. They have to know what to look for to learn on their own, and lots of times that takes considerable life experience. Stop ragging on literal children for not knowing things.
Neighbor was complaining about our lawn. I told her we don't have a mower. She said "So fix it". I repeated "We don't have a lawnmower"
She meant fix the lawnmower problem but that's still unreasonable

My mom goes by the quote "if you are letting someone borrow money, don't expect it back"

She's not required to have a job and has an unlimited credit card and gets a new Macbook for Christmas every year. One night she took a private gig bartending a party thrown by a billionaire. The only thing she had to do all night was pour wine. They paid her a few grand. When she got home to her dad's apartment, he was in town for the weekend, she said to him, "Wow Dad, now I know how the other half live." Um honey, you ARE the other half. The next time he was in the office after that he told this story to every employee. He literally told the story like 20 times. Most of his employees can barely afford their rent.
Sounds like an EXTREMELY boring and uninformed life for the dad and/or daughter

She was from Lansing, Michigan and was discussing her experiences and insights with some she had made an acquaintance with about her tour of Italy. She said she did not care for Rome. What was her grievance with this ancient city? The streets were to narrow and she would be unable to fit her SUV down them. It was just a poorly designed city...
Work customer service for a major retailer that uses gift cards, which are treated as cash. No word of a lie, when client told me that they had gotten the gift card and mailed it out, after receiving, their response to being told we wouldn't refund it was "That's like watching my mother being raped. Picture you're mother being raped. PICTURE YOUR MOTHER BEING RAPED...." Over and over til I hung up.
Growing up, we categorize these rich people into two categories. People and marks. Yeah I'm not much of an upstanding citizen growing up. You do what you can to eat and a well gamed mark can keep you and your friends fed for a while.
Anyone can be rich. Just pick the right skin color, have wealthy parents and influential friends, be good looking, attend a top notch school, pick the right country to be born in, make sure you are male ... Just don't understood why everyone does not do these simple rules for success.
I have a feeling that it was mostly about America and their situation. and it's scary. I'm happy to live in Europe. the American dream is not as sweet as people here often imagine.
You must be very lucky then. I have lived in europe all my life and I am poor as f**k. In Spain unemployment is rampant, salaries are extremely low and many kids go to school without food. In the netherlands you need to pay a extremely expensive insurance (minimum 95 euros a month) to even get any health care and not get a huge fine. Here in belgium if you are a migrant and disabled like me you get nothing, only threats and lies from the government. The only reason why I am not in the streets is because my partner has a job and cares for me.

It takes years and tons of paperwork, and you still might be rejected.
Yeah, I don't remember Americans having ever been invited to Canada...just sayin'. - Sincerely, all Canadians
