If you or your loved one has ever been through a weight loss journey, you should know how hard it can be. It takes time, the process is slow and not very rewarding, and you have to make some significant lifestyle changes that put you under even more pressure.
Finding something that motivates you is crucial because this is what will keep you going throughout the journey. One way is to list the reasons why you’d like to become healthier and tell yourself how it’s gonna change the way you feel. Maybe it’s a boost of self-esteem, a better mood, or being happy with what you see in the mirror.
On the other hand, it’s all about finding the right balance, whether it’s some healthy amount of exercise, a nutritious diet, or a good night’s sleep. Going into the extreme ends of these three can cause long-term damage and harm your body image, relationship with food, and the ways you perceive yourself.

Congratulations to everyone! I'm planning on losing some weight so this is quite inspiring lol
Good luck! When was losing weight it helped looking at pictures like this to remember that it's possible. Online communities can be very helpful too, because goodness knows the people out in the real world could be less than supportive at times.
Thank you :)
Yeah, I could stand to lose a few pounds too lol
Good Luck Emily, Im rooting for you as we all are!!
Such amazing achievements. They should all be extremely proud of themselves, I don’t even know them and I am proud of them.
Everybody here's absolutely amazing and an inspiration! Live your life to the fullest!!
try that for years and i just don't have the strenght anymore to such effort i always reach a step where my weight didn't go down anymore. so i say just f**k it. i'll just die younger i don't care... just trying to keep my mental health it's a f*****g battle.
I know your pain. I was chubby as a little girl, but when I went to university I looked normal. I am depressed from a young age, but I felt the best when I was the slimmest. In the last year, I became obese. I just couldn't take care of myself, I had a lot of work to do. Walking 3 times a week for an hour helped me. It's not too hard and I got bf who walks with me so I don't skip it. Also, I try to eat less. I eat half of my portions. I don't really care about what I eat, I like healthy foods, but I eat everything. Try this. This is doable because you don't change your lifestyle, this is not a big effort. Cheap and easy. :3
Beauty on both before and after photos. Only one good difference: Health. Be healthy and happy people! You will be always beautiful.

Congrats to these good people on their personal improvements! This proves it yet again: dietary/nutritional changes + exercising DOES work, obesity is usually solvable and rarely is it entirely 'genetic.' Obesity is also unhealthy, and the switch to healthier nutrition and more exercising didn't require self-hatred; you can sense that mostly these people made their positive changes out of love for themselves. So 'fat acceptance' is a deeply misguided idea. Yes, there is a diet industry and a fitness industry. That doesn't mean diet and exercise 'never works', anymore than the existence of an industry for construction materials must mean that 'building things never works.' In both cases there are industries b/c the plans of people within the domains often do succeed. Sorry to 'fat acceptance' advocates, I know some of you are well intended, but like the people that this idea misleads, that idea itself will ultimately have a short life expectancy.
A lot of people who suffer with obesity ave eating disorders just like people who suffer bulimia and anorexia. It is just that people are so disgusted by obese people that they don’t care they are possibly suffering an eating disorder like BED or OCED etc. I suffer an eating disorder (Obsessive compulsive eating disorder) and it is NOT an easy solvable thing, doesn’t help that I also use a contraception and antidepressant that also cause weight gain. This is why weight shaming needs to go away. No one knows the persons circumstances and it is between the individual and their Dr, psychologist or whoever. “Fat acceptance” is about treating overweight people as you would treat others and not discriminate them because of their weight or treating them/us as if we are ugly, worthless and don’t deserve love. That is the whole point of fat acceptance. It’s not like it’s a surprise to us that we are fat and that obesity can cause health issues. Often fat shaming actually makes things worse.
I get where you are coming from, I don’t think we need another name coz it is well known that being overweight causes health issues, most of us are aware of the complications that can arise with excess weight. Having fat acceptance doesn’t mean we are unaware of the risks or are in denial (some maybe, but that’s a minority). Knowing these facts doesn’t change our behaviours. I regularly get check ups because I know my weight can cause issues and my family has a history of diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol etc. Thankfully my tests are always great. Even knowing I have these risk factors doesn’t miraculously stop my eating disorder. I see a psychologist and have started trying hypnotherapy in the hopes to help. This doesn’t take into consideration the people who take medications that cause weight gain or suffer medical issues like PCOS, Prader-Willi syndrome, thyroid issues, digestive problems etc. I don’t feel changing the terminology will help, but that is just my opinion.
Foxxy, you are partly right, but the problem is that although you are not unaware of the risks or in denial, there are some people who are in total denial. There are also people who are on the cusp of whether they are in denial. For obese people to achieve their medically necessary changes, they will need to do achievable but consistent daily acts of discipline, e.g. to drink water over soda, to take a 20 minute walk. When the obese people, on the cusp of denial - but also the cusp of addressing their problem, are struggling through daily temptations you don't want them to believe that their obesity is in any sense 'acceptable.' That can easily give obese people a way to rationalize giving into their temptations and making the less disciplined choices. This is esp. likely when you consider how many people who struggle with obesity are less educated and/or young people. Not all of them realize the true gravity of their situation, and they need a clear, straightforward understanding.

Foxxy, I think we have common ground here. It's true that the term 'fat acceptance' could straightforwardly mean that decent interpretation you give. The problem is it can also, just as straightforwardly, be interpreted to mean that obesity doesn't create a host of health problems, when there is overwhelming evidence that it does. So maybe, we need some new term, like 'Positivity+PersonalReforms' - or something more catchy. What about that idea? That it's time for some new term that captures these two different goods that we've identified?

Get rid of the make-up, and show your real face. Those beauty magazine shots, create impossible expectations for people who want to lose weight. This coming from a 48yo male, comfortable with his little overweight (1.83cm, 80kg). So I'm not posting this for myself, or my 1.63cm, 50kg gf, that could get fat if she tried. I don't know how, she eats more than me?!?...
