It Actually Works
I was ready to go clean my pan and mess my wife head up but then I thought if this works she'll want me to do all of them and I'm binge watching family guy
Bar Keeper's Friend. $3 a container and will save you from buying a new pan and keep your crap out of the landfill.
Only way to clean that pan is with a sand blaster set to maximum. Might need to add some diamond dust to the sand too.
Cleaned My Depression Room After Months
I've been in a similar situation and I know the effort it can sometimes take just to bend down and pick clothes up,so we'll done you... Your room is beautiful..
I just plopped down on my couch after a super long week with my husband in hospital for surgery and my sons for some reason hyperactive. Your beautiful room just inspired me to go and ensure a clean and tidy welcoming room for hubby to come home to tomorrow. Job well done!!
So comforting and cozy. I know it doesn't get rid of depression but it sure makes you feel you got something done and you feel like it's a start.
I was depressed and my house was a mess. I asked a house maid service to help me clean up my house ´cause I wasn´t able to do it on my own. She cleaned my house and left me a small bouquet of flowers everyday. She cleaned my soul. You never know where help will come from.
My daughter also suffers from depression, and anxiety. Her room looks incredibly similar to this. I'm talking about the color scheme, etc. And also, the before. She too managed to clean it, once she had the correct meds.
Good for you, pass your energy over my way. 2 parents passing 18 months apart and two serious car accidents (not my fault) all my rooms look like this after sqeezing inherited stuff in my place that I need to go through. :(
So sorry for your loss. You have so much grief to adjust to. Tidiness isn’t all in life. It helps with feeling safer, though. Maybe you’ll find a friend, or help from your congregation, or a professional organizer once you feel you want to tackle your space. Take your time. It’s hard and maybe right now you just want to be sad. It’s allowed to be sad in a chaotic house. It’s ok to be overwhelmed. Phone a help line if you feel you’ve got no one.
Load More Replies...It automatically makes you feel better when you finally find the energy to clean up, but depression can be so debilitating. Good luck.
Going through the same thing with my depression going on for a long time during covid. My entire home was a mess with in one room there was hardly room to walk on the floor. I was beyond discouraged. This may sound trite, I don't mean it to be. But it did start with the simple Admiral William McRaven saying. First make your bed. It's hard, but I forced myself. Didn't do the whole bedspread thing. Just pull up the sheets & blankets & folded them neatly over. Every time I walked out of the room I turned to looked at that nice made bed. Regardless of how the rest of the room looked, there was this nicely made bed. Eventually, with each passing day, looking at it started to make me feel a little better. I kept on with other little things & after, look at it during the day & felt better. Now, everyday the bed is made. It's a habit now. Clean sink before bed. I've had to work my way up. One day at a time. Weeks. But with each small thing I feel better & can keep it up. First, I made my bed.
I Did It. After Months Of Severe Depression, I Did It
I understand you brother / sister. I did 6 years. I'll let you imagine the conditions. Now I'm out, all by myself, and my house is shining. I love being able to lay on the floor. Something that has remained impossible for 6 years. It has a very profound sense.
Well done❤️ what I do is set the kitchen timer for 30 minutes each day and stop when the timer goes off that way I don't get to overwhelmed x
That must feel so good! I'll get there too, thanks for the inspiration x
I once heard someone say somewhere that the same things can give you so much more joy if it is clean. Now when I note a depressive mess developing, I just try and repeat that to myself over and over until it sinks in, because it is in fact true. :-)
This is beyond fantastic!! Great work. And it's so difficult to start with even one small thing. The strength and determination is evident. Stand and look at your rooms everyday. A really good look. It helps to keep you going.
I know the feeling. You feel crap about the state of the room but you don't have the energy or motivation to clean it up.
With autumn blues kicking in, it’s easy to lose your motivation to do things, especially the ones that were never your favorite in the first place. For many people, it’s household chores. While others find joy in organizing things and sparkling transformations that take the house to a whole new level of order, others struggle to lift their finger and start.
So in order to find out where to look for that much-needed inspo to get your home in order, we spoke with Ivanka Siolkowsky, a professional organizer who helps others find that same inner peace in their daily lives. Ivanka is a former elementary school teacher who says her life was transformed when she began learning the many benefits of minimalism and organization.
Fixing Cat Scratch Marks To Couch Using Felting Needle: Before And After
Lots and LOTS of time poking and stuffing all those loose threads back into the couch with a with a needle specially designed for poking and stuffing
Load More Replies...My cat was using the couch as a scratching post, even though she has a bunch of other in the home, and noticed she was obsessed with my groceries bag (reusable one made with fabrics). I put a couple on the floor near the couch with a carpet and magic happened! She stopped using my couch and started using the bags with the carpet. Now I'm gonna try that trick to repair the damage.
Gave Up On Cleaning And Decided To Scrape It Off And Reseal It; Thought You Guys Would Appreciate A Satisfying Before/After Pic
Sealing is not hard to do, Cut the old sealant away with a Stanley knife. The trick is not to squeeze too much along the place to be sealed. Enough to fill the gap with a little surplus, release the pressure on your sealant gun, as filler will continue to come out. Wet your finger and run it along the filled gap and have plenty of old rags for wiping up, or strong kitchen paper.
That looks like a totally different bathroom to me. The floor is different, the basin looks different, and the skirting board is definitely different.
The trick is peroxide and/or vinegar (separately, do not mix!). Chlorine bleach doesn't get rid of mold, it just removes the color from it. Chlorine bleach also can't get into most surfaces and just sits on top.
I Was Recently Diagnosed With Severe Adhd And Given Meds For It. And Now My Whole House Has Been Scrubbed For The First Time.... Ever
Ohh, I'm still waiting to get ADHD meds. Got the diagnosis 3 months ago, but still no meds because my psychiatrist sort of stopped working at the psychiatric unit, and now I'm waiting to meet another one. Trying to learn ADHD coping mechanisms and all kinds of methods to get organized is fricking hard when your head is still the same head it's always been and you've already tried all the methods multiple times over the years and they just don't work..
One thing that helps me is putting everything in a big box, not trying to sort everything right away. Once the space is cleared, I clean and then sort the box in big groups. Works also if I have to clean the whole flat. Anything that belongs in the bathroom goes in the box, etc. Dividing tasks/ objects in big groups works better than one tiny object at the time. And not trying to have everything perfectly organise leave that for when you'll have your meds. Don't organise things in a way that you won't do, but rather in a way that will work for you based on your habits. Ex. If you know you won't sort your silverware everytime put them in a tray all together. Still better than leaving them in the sink. Hope it'll helps. I still struggle with organising things but this system definitely helped me.
Load More Replies...This gives me hope. I know I have ADHD but as an adult I feel stupid about getting tested. I need meds because I can't succeed in what I need to do (online classes) without them. I'm also a terrible housekeeper. I put off cleaning because I know once I start, I'll be at it until 4 in the morning and one small area will be a showcase while everything else will still look like a tornado hit it.
One small area is just as good. Start small and take your time :)
Load More Replies...Adhd myself and adderall was a god send but you have to find someone who does CBT for adults with adhd. Once a week for ten weeks and it'll change your life
Well done!! My ADHD medication changed my life. However still a struggle.
My 21 year old daughter is very intelligent but motivation and job starting is impossible. The basement is exactly like the above. She says she cannot move on it alone and can't see it the way we do and "doesn't care". We are by no means neat and super clean but this is getting worse and harming our relationship. I suspect her university issues and this is due to ADHD but the psychiatrist won't start Wellbutrin and doesn't buy the ADHD idea. Now she sits in life not feeling any motivation and not caring. Looking into Kava Kava as suggested. It helps to see that sahe is not alone.
Well done...... and that room looks great. I'm imagining having to go up attic stairs to get to it... and once you're there...it inspires effort in you? It does me.
“Online is a beautiful place to start. Many professional organizers, like myself, have social media channels where we offer tips and tricks for how to navigate through your organizing journey,” Ivanka suggested. “Once you see the results of clients we’ve worked with, and see that it IS possible, this might give you motivation to begin the journey!”
Relief From A Four Day Migraine Means... 30 Minute Cleaning Session!

Finally Handled The Depression Nest - Which Was Basically The Whole Apartment At One Point
It's shocking how many people suffer from depression and have to live like this.... I'm glad some of them have the strength to try and improve their life...It's not easy It's an everyday struggle
I've had Major Depressive Disorder since I was 14. I'm 40 now and not much better. My bedroom is a mess of clothing. 75% of my room is clothes strewn about. It kills me to admit this, especially on the internet to strangers, but it's my life. Years of switching meds, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and one thankfully unsuccessful suicide attempt have not made things better. Just today my 19 year old niece offered to help me clean. You don't know what it means to me to have even a stranger acknowledge that it's the depression that causes many of us clinically depressed people to live in messy spaces, that it's not laziness, etc. I've been told time and time again that it's pure laziness when it is in fact the depression.
Load More Replies...Bet you felt on top of the world after accomplishing this... nice one.
Well done you. I also have depression and I know how much effort that must have taken but doesn't it feel good! When I'm feeling really low I try to use my 30 seconds approach - what small thing can I do in 30 seconds. Sometimes in a low day it's the smallest of things that feel like an achievement
It probably is very depressing, after a while. Does the thought of getting on top of this make you overeat in front of the telly in your bathrobe? Or do you flee from your space and aimlessly drift about? Some people are just not tidy. They can function very well living like this. For others it’s impossible.
Load More Replies...good job! depression is a very painfull sitiation, really... when I am not OK I fell it in my body

Soooo.......we're just going to ignore that fact that there's a dildo out in the open on their stand ? 🤣🤣🤣
For anyone who’s worrying that tidying up will require maximum effort and a huge budget, Ivanka reminds us that tidying isn’t about spending money. In fact, “it’s about learning how not to! Don’t go out and buy a bunch of organizational supplies! Do the declutter and purge first,” she said.

Cleaned Up My Rusty Old Camp Oven That I Neglected. Coke And Wire Brush On A Drill.
if you have a self cleaning oven, you can just put cast iron pots in there during the cleaning. Works wonders.
Good job. Now, remember to keep it seasoned, and it will be something you can pass on to your kids.
Place it in the over, turn the oven on the self clean mode, let it cool, a scrub with an SOS pad, and season it up.
Cast iron. Just gotta remove the rust, and it's like new.
Load More Replies...There's no campfire stew that's going to be disappointing to anyone coming of that
Throw it in a fire next time then season it. Trust a southern cook when it comes to cast iron cookware! Oh, and don't never, ever, ever, ever use my cornbread skillet for anything other than cornbread. That's grounds for a killing where I come from, lol, but seriously
Ivanka explained that almost always, during this process, you’ll find bins and containers that will aid you in the organization portion. She also urges everyone on a mission to declutter their home to remember that less is more. “The less you have, the easier it is to organize!”

Someone On Reddit Recommended Iron Out For Hard Water Stained Dishwasher In Our New Rental, One Cycle And The Results Are Amazing
Iron Out comes in a couple of different forms, liquid, spray, and powder. I use the powder to get rid of rust stains on concrete and porcelain.. works like a charm.
Now one of the toilet bowl cleaners has it too. I just buy that add some H2O in a spray bottle for shower and such. Its so bad here where I live that the steam from the showers has it all over the bathroom walls.

After A Minor Depressive Episode I Had A Great Day Motivation Wise And Tackled The Mess That Was Accumulating
I bet you slept like a baby.. a proud baby.... the night you went to bed in a tidier environment
It’s one thing to organize your home once, and a whole new other challenge to keep it that way. Ivanka suggests that in order to make that effect last, you need to address your patterns of consumption at the source. “Don’t buy things you don’t need. Once you’ve gone through and decluttered/organized your home, make sure everything has a place. At the end of every day, take 10 minutes to do a 'room reset' and put everything back where it belongs,” she said.
“If you desperately want to buy something new, only do so to replace something that may no longer be serving you,” she said, arguing that this will keep your home in order!

I'm also depressed off/on. I usually try to clean up everything at the same time BUT the important thing is not to beat yourself up if you don't have the energy to finish it. Be proud you did what you did!

30 Minute Soak In Vinegar
I've tried soaking my shower head in vinegar many times, but somehow it just won't get clean :s it's super annoying! Many of the little holes are clogged and water keeps shooting into random directions out of it.

Great work. Keep on going. Don't stop. You are always better than what you think. And I really know this. Trust me.
the hardest is to start, the discipline to continue is less exhausting
Keep going there is a cat/dog waiting to be found. It will lead you to a better place.
Listen, even picking up one thing is an achievement. Pat yourself on the back and celebrate the fact you can now see your floor! Just remember, it didn’t get like it was overnight, so it isn’t going to go back to its pre-depression state overnight either.
Tackle the mountains one after another. The key to getting started is to set a goal for the day that is realistic and that you can reach. "CLEAN THE ENTIRE HOUSE!" is not it. Start in one room with one particular corner, organise it, throw away stuff you don't need. You did well!
I Couldn’t Handle How Gross My Sister’s Tea Kettle Was From Stove Spatters. Some Bar Keeper’s Friend And A Little Elbow Grease Did The Job!
Bar Keeper's Friend is excellent on stainless steel sinks. If the kettle is chromed, I'd be inclined to use Autosol Metal Polish instead.
If you don't have this brand in your country this "bar keeper's friend" can be very confusing
Load More Replies...Before looking at comments, I thought "some bar keepers friend" was someone who had a hand in cleaning it. 😅
I use salt to clean my kettle. The texture of a bunch of table salt and some scrubbing will easily remove that buildup.
We keep the kettle on the stove as well. Whenever I'm cooking anything that may have grease splatters I move it to the far counter. But Bar Keeper's Friend is an excellent choice for cleaning it!

Love how a lot of the after pics contain pets. Cat is back to push all your organised doohickeys off your shelf!
I get stacks of papers and envelopes scattered all over my house and desk. When I get to the point where I can't stand it another second, I gather them all up, from wherever they were left, and take them to the dining room table. Then I go though each piece, one at a time, and either toss it into recycle bin, trash bin or make other stacks. A stack for receipts and medical reports that I want filed. A stack of things I want to read. Then a stack that needs immediate attention, like forgotten and almost overdue bills, special offers I want to take advantage of, etc. The key is being brutally honest with yourself and throw away stuff you know you will never get around to, won't have time to do, or can be reconstructed by on-line research if necessary. Ends up not taking nearly as long as you think it would.
You Guys Weren't Kidding About Bar Keepers Friend

It works great for all kinds of fabrics but you need to be careful about it also. Going over the same spot too often or the blade accidentally sliding sideways can cause a hole in the fabric. I've used razors many times but I prefer the little battery operated trimmers with a mesh screen, so you don't cut your fabric.

I actually did this also. The circle thing in middle pops off to expose a screw. Unscrew and they come off and I just scrubbed with dishsoap and an old toothbrush. It makes a huge difference. They get so slimey.

Cleaned Behind Neglected Stove (Before vs. After)
When moving a few years ago my son in law pulled out my stove with 15 years of that yellow oilly build up down the sides. I have moderate bone loss so I can't do it. I had a spray can of "Tuff Stuff" , we sprayed the foam cleaner on both sides and it pretty much just melted it away. Several wipes to remove the liquid and it was gone. This product cleans almost everything. Carpet, upholstery, rims, metal, wood. It has removed axle grease from my winter coat when I pre treated it. I haven't found anything that it wouldn't clean for me yet.

I didn't know there was a cleaner that could turn your oven into the store display.
Citrus Cleaner, Cloths, Scrubber, Water Vacuum And Hottt Waterrr Will Get The Job Done
I disagree. The center console of a truck, or the 60 part of a 60/40 split, looks different than the bucket seat, what the poster has his hand on. Also, the fabric is exactly the same.

you see that brush length trough on the right side of the brush roller in the right pic? You supposed to be able to take a knife and run it along that to remove the hair and debris.

Sometimes It Just Needs A Little Bit Of Bleach
Reminder: NEVER use bleach and ammonia together. That includes products like cleanser which contain bleach, etc. Chlorine gas (the result of combining) is chemical warfare and will burn your lungs.
It's toxic. A lady at work decided to clean our shared office toilet and ran out of her first product, continued with a different product, it ended up being bleach then ammonia based and caustic fumes were seeping into the office. You could actually see a fog from the heavy amount of chemicals she used. She couldn't even get back in to flush it. It seeped down the hallway and into other offices. We had to open all the exit doors to the administration building and have maintenance bring fans to pull the fog out. It finally cleared enough for safety to put on goggles and cover their nose and mouth with a towel to run through the smallest office and flush it. Then they had to write a safety exposure report and incident report. It happened at 9am and still smelled harsh at 4pm.

Clearly you've got a white theme going in your kitchen, otherwise I'd be very confused why you bought a white Le Creuset, known for their brilliant enamel colors.

Thanks Y’all For Recommending Bkf For Acrylic Tubs, I’m House Sitting For A Friend And Thought I’d Leave Her A Surprise
Beware, cleaning someone else's house without asking isn't always welcome. Some people see it as a way of saying "I think the way you keep your house is dirty and gross"
I once cleaned a friend's coffee pot; the clear glass was stained black, you couldn't really see through it. Well, the friend didn't really like that I did that, he said that the stain gave the coffee a distinct flavour that he liked...

Load More Replies...During the weekends I watch a lot of youtube videos of really dirty and messy rooms and people cleaning them up. After about three videos I am all fired up and ready to clean. Or I watch an episode of hoarders, always gets me cleaning and gets me in that deep clean mindset.
I have found that if I use a 'Do one task a day' rule for myself, it really helps. Sometimes I have lots of energy and get many things done, but if not, I still did that one thing. It is slow, but steady. Do the dishes. Take out the trash. Scrub the toilet. Get rid of something. Sweep a floor. Clean one small area like one shelf or one counter top. It got that way a bit at a time; it can be cleaned a bit at a time. ;>)
Brilliant job all of you who have found the shining moment to face the depression nests. It's so hard to get started and so overwhelming you don't want to even look at it. Been there. Start with the simplest goal. Pick up ONE thing and throw it away. Pick up ONE thing and put it away. That's all you need to do to start. Do that for a few days and you're making a difference. You can go up to two, three, four things as you feel able. Once you start seeing the difference, you get motivated to keep going. You can do it!
I like the way that in quite a few of them after they've tidied up an animal appears! :D
Wow! This gives me hope that I can conquer some of the things I have put off myself.
