When photographer Yulia Taits posted her hypnotizing photo series that capture the beauty of Albino people, it inspired us to look further and find more people with Albinism.
As you may already know, Albinism is a rare condition which results in the absence of pigment in hair, eyes, and skin. However, it's not only the appearance, though, the Albinos often suffer from vision problems and sometimes even blindness. These issues can lead to isolation, making the works of artists like Yulia even more important. "Their unique beauty hypnotizes me," - says Yulia and we couldn't agree more.
Humans with Albinism often face some difficulties being ridiculed and discriminated. In some African regions, albino women might even be associated with witchcraft. And though many famous artists and models suffer from this condition, the International Albinism Awareness Day, celebrated on June 13th, adds much-needed attention to this cause.

Just to clear the air: it took me less than five minutes to 'educate myself' on albinism. It doesn't have to be a complete lack of pigment, someone can have a 'diminished pigment' and still be considered albino. Don't be hateful or rude. Do a quick Google search before you embarrass yourself on the internet with ignorant comments.

Interesting, his clef palette falls right in the center so it just makes his tiny lips look extra puckered. But it doesn’t look like a defect or anything. Good angle. This is nice.

They do. Albino children in Africa are often abducted or even sold by family members for their body parts which many believe have magical healing properties. Thy also have no protection from the relentless sun; note the kids in this picture have badly sunburned faces.

Excuse me? There are seven types of albinism and only the smallest percentage have the pink or violet eyes. We tend to have different varying degrees of lack of pigment. Our skin colors can be a range of different fair skins.

That is odd, we don't grow up feeling that way with all the bullying and abuse we receive. Honestly I like the idea that she is showing that we are beautiful, but the otherworldly and mythical terms kind of bother me. I would like to just feel normal and human.

I appreciate everything positive about this article, especially that it goes hand in hand with raising awareness. However, I think using words like 'otherworldly' and 'mesmerising' does more harm than good. Especially given the aforementioned historical connotations. At the end of the day, a person with albinism is just that... a person. Raising awareness is important, but it also has to be done in the right way. Otherwise, it simply contributes to further alienating people.

That is interesting, because so called normal people come up to me daily and tell me I need to wear makeup to be pretty. The are specifically talking about eye makeup which I can't wear because it burns the s**t out of my eyes. Not that I want to wear it because it is not my responsibility to paint my face normal to make other people feel more comfortable.

Each and every picture is beautiful but looking at African culture in this beauty is kind of unique. NO. THIS DOESN'T INclude racism... but what i say is we have different features and body shape and complexion as our mother nature gives us. But when you are used to see one culture in particular color and then you see them in totally opposite one...it seems like Magic....just like you see Irish girl in dark complexions.

My son has albinism doctor's thought that he was going to have problems when he started school like being bullied not able to make friends. He has proving them wrong my son plays football, excel at wrestling. I don't treat him any different from the rest of my kids. What I think that helped him the most was you can do whatever you want to do and you whatever you want to be in this world.
