50 Students And Parents Call Out Their Teachers Who Were So Toxic, They Shouldn’t Be Teaching Anyone
Let’s do a quick experiment, shall we, Pandas? Think about the best teachers you’ve ever had. See how easily their faces pop up in your imagination? You’re probably even smiling. Okay, now think of the very worst teachers you’ve ever encountered. It feels awful, doesn’t it? The sad truth is that nearly everyone has to deal with at least one toxic educator who was out to make their life miserable. Teachers and professors hold a huge amount of influence in their students’ lives. And that power can be used for good, as well as for ill.
Bored Panda compiled this list of pics of people sharing examples of the most toxic teachers they have ever met. The type of behavior featured in this article is appalling. And it really makes you value quality educators even more.
Keep in mind that if you’ve had awful experiences at school, these pics might bring back some bad memories. Otherwise, feel free to tell us about the best and worst teachers you had at school. You’ll find our previous post about bad teachers over here, too. We know from experience just how much teachers can inspire us… or cause us to doubt ourselves.

Student’s Mom Had Cancer, And When She Missed School, Teacher Told Her That School Is More Important Than Home
I agree. It's #1 now (and I up voted it too)
Load More Replies...I hope this teacher lives a long and hard life, outliving all the family and friends and be filled with resent and bitter. May every day that brings a ray of shine be clouded by her own toxicity
my mom used to think like this... when my aunt had cancer she didn't tell me that she was sick because it would ""ruin my exams"" she was the aunt I grew up spending everyday with. I came home literally from my last exam. I step in and go mum can you take me to aunts house? she doesn't miss a beat and she goes, your aunts dead. I didn't cry about it until a year later and then I just couldn't stop. it gave me the worst ptsd. I'm still struggling with it in therapy.
Load More Replies...My mother died two days after my 14th birthday. My dad was out in California and had to come back to Michigan and we moved in with him the next day. We had my mom's funeral and I missed a couple days of school. One of my teachers asked for a note for my absence. I said my mom died and he told me I still needed a note. F that guy forever.
A college friend of mine lost her mother to cancer. My friend was in the honors program, and was also a resident advisor in the dorms. My friend was very diligent about letting her professors, and the other RAs, know when she'd be spending time with her mother in the hospital--it was her mother's final hospitalization before she ultimately passed away. You have to keep your grades up to stay in the honors program. Her teachers were sympathetic, and really tried to make the dean understand that it wasn't her fault she'd missed school, and they didn't blame her for wanting to spend time with her mother before she passed. However, the dean was a complete horse's a*s--his attitude was basically, "If you know she's gonna die anyway, why are you wasting so much time at her bedside when you should be at school, and you should be doing RA stuff?!" The whole situation at school just made things more stressful for my friend. She's never forgiven the dean for the way he behaved.
He doesn't deserve forgiveness, but, since being unforgiving is bad for the soul, I hope your friend can forgive him and move on.
Load More Replies...I had severe Bronchitis and was laid up at home for two weeks, with a doctor's excuse. My teachers were sending me school work so I would stay caught up. When I got back to school, the Vice Principal said the Doctor's not was not good enough and he was going to expel me from school for missing too many days. Luckily he did not get his way. He already expelled another student that had Pneumonia and missed school. That guy was a pure a*****e.
Bored Panda was interested to learn about building a sense of trust and openness between parents and children, as well as what to do if there are issues with specific teachers at school. We reached out to parenting blogger Samantha Scroggin, from Walking Outside in Slippers, who shared her thoughts on this with us.
"I always try to maintain an open dialogue with my kids, but it doesn’t always work as well as I’d hoped. I think we can’t expect our kids to open up to us on our timeline and our terms. They have to share when and if they want to, and us parents showing a genuine interest in what’s going on in our kids’ lives sets the groundwork for when they’re ready to open up," the blogger said.
Yikes
I am SO sorry.. but that’s kind of funny… hope they apologised and were embarrassed lol
The next tweet says that they tried to laugh it off and never apologized.
Load More Replies...I feel the only way to make it right was for both professors to apologize and then purchase a piece of your art.
I got simmilar bs. I gave my teacher a fantasy story as essay And she stood me infront of the whole class called me a plagiator And gave me F. I was 14. I came home crying. It was my own work, one of many. My mom got angry, told me to print out my stories, then she took the folder in one Hand, me in other, drove us to school next day And almost Beat the heck out of my teacher with the folder. The same happened ať my high school but at that time we were two who suffered And I kicked the teachers door open with even bigger folder myself while the other falsly called plagiator followed with her work
They call it "self-plagiarism," which is complete bullshirt. You cannot plagiarize yourself!
You do still have to cite yourself if you previously wrote a paper and then reused the work later.
Load More Replies...Similar thing happened to me. We had to put our thesis statements in chat for the teacher to read them (I'm homeschooled). When she got to mine she said that mine and another kids looked almost the exact same, and we even misspelled a word. She then explained that we shouldn't plagiarize from the same website and it's very important that we don't plagiarize on this assignment else we would get a zero. She also said all this infront of the entire class instead of doing it in privet chat or something, which made me embarrassed. I immediately went over to privet chat with my teacher and told her that I didn't copy, this was my own work, and even stayed up late one night to do it since this was an important assignment and was excited to do it. We then concluded that we think the kid stole my thesis and rephrased it. Also this isnt the first time this teacher gave a false plagiarism claim. She had also gave one to my sister earlier that year for, I think writing such good detailed work for a 9th grader that she thought it was plagiarized. I actually dont know all the details of that one. Also I'm pretty sure there's a plagiarism checker that the teachers have to use, this shows that she didn't really use it, especially on my sister's assignment and just assumed she was plagiarizing. This wasn't the only problem we had with this teacher, but it's quite up there.
In jr high my English teacher liked a story I wrote but told me not to make up words. The word I made up was "doppelgänger," ... I was so confused (for those who don't know it's a German word that means a person that's a double, like a clone, or looks so much like you they could be a clone.
Bored Teachers Regrading Students 7 Years Later
Probably everyone else that graduated that year had the same problem.
Load More Replies...Raise your hand if you've never had a nightmare like this at least once
My nightmare is: I need this one last class to graduate college but I haven't been to class all semester. I'm 42.
Load More Replies...Oh god .. most people after getting bachelor's don't even remember the stuff going on in high school. Let alone the second you were awarded bachelor's nobody cares. I lied about my school when I was 14, and moved to Ireland. In Ireland nobody checked, two months before my final leaving cert exams someone came up and said you haven't done junior cert. Oh well, can I now take the exams and if I fail I'll go and repeat. Wasn't really my fault who would trust a 14yr?? My mum cried and laughed. I passed my exams with flying colours. Went to college at 17, and I skipped two years of high school. Nobody cares of your previous experience in schooling if you have achieved higher award. Like do I really need to retake 7-9th grades seems kind of pointless now Also which school is checking grades 7yrs after graduation? Colleges don't do that, unless plagiarism is suspected. Otherwise your grade is awarded, you can appeal it, and then it sticks
Not everyone. I once was in an interview and one of the 3 interviewers was going over the classes I took in college. He had the wrong opinion that I had 'cheap' classes when, yes I did take them but not for the math degree. This went on and on despite my bringing up several times... "You did see I have a Ph.D, in Mathematics, right?" goes on... "You did see I have a Ph.D, in Mathematics, right?" In the end I didn't get the job because he felt I didn't really have a good B.S. in Math. "You did see I have a Ph.D, in Mathematics, right?"...looks at me blankly...like talking to a brick wall.
Load More Replies...Hahaha! "Go ahead rescind away" you've passed GO and collected $200, you win!
Imagine being so uptight that you look over old student's grades to try to fail them 7 years later 💀
This sounds like it must have been a friend pranking them. I just can't imagine this actually happening
Patience and understanding are key for building trust, bit by bit. "Sometimes this can mean listening to them drone on about Pokemon and their friend drama at school," Samantha told Bored Panda.
"I feel like it’s just as important for parents to have an open dialogue with our kids’ teachers at school to see how they’re doing. We can’t always rely on our kids for the full picture, but it’s important to take our kids’ perspective on school situations into perspective," she suggested.
Teacher Taking A Child’s Hearing Aid As Punishment “Cause She Wasn’t Listening Anyway”
What! Surely this isn't even legal? Wouldn't this be discrimination? She'd hardly cut off a hearing kid's ears 'because they weren't listening anyway' so this was only done because the child was hearing impaired. that teacher should be catching a charge.
So, this is a breach of the Americans with Disabilities Act (and Canadian equivalents) and is a sue-able instance of discrimination. The teacher can be disciplined or even terminated for this kind of violation, and school boards have often been forced to pay hundreds of thousands for damage and distress to students affected by it.
I have a friend who wears hearing aids and also teaches martial arts, and I just had a very enjoyable vision of sending him after this POS.
That teacher would have gotten a shitstorm of a discussion if this was my child... how low can you go on a powertrip... yuck!
That might constitute assault charges. No different than stealing someone's wheelchair or oxygen tank.
There was one I read about, not long ago, where a teacher kept deliberately standing in front of a deaf student's sign language interpreter, because the teacher "didn't want the deaf student to get too dependent on the interpreter." Um, hello, if the student's *deaf,* they sorta need to be able to see the interpreter doing sign language...
Teachers Need To Understand Students Don’t Always Sleep In Class Just Because Of Laziness
Beyond horrible. My heart just broke into a thousand pieces reading this.
Load More Replies...It's doubtful...The teacher is so petty that she probably blamed the student for working 2 jobs.
Load More Replies...When I was in HS, the school day was 7:30am-2:30pm. I went to school with a kid who often slept in class. Turned out that he also had a full-time job from 3-11, at least five (sometimes six) days a week, so he'd basically leave HS at 2:30, immediately go to work, work all night, get home at maybe 11:30, do homework for a couple of hours, fall into bed around 1-2am, then have to get up again at 5:30-6 to get ready for school the next morning. Once his teachers found out, they let him sleep, as long as he kept his grades up, which he did.
Many of my students when I first started teaching had jobs before school. Often helping in parents’ business. For example one had to wash his father’s taxi inside and out before school. He didn’t mind, it was helping his dad who worked long hours. Another would help set up the family market stall. Heavy work.
Ive had teachers humiliate students (myself included, my fourth grade teacher was HORRID and another family even pulled their daughter from her class and she had a freaking breakdown crying and blubbering over it like STFU youre a horrible teacher) and I HATED my school life so much
My senior year I was accused of doing drugs and alcohol because I would show up hung over with red eyes for the entire winter. Turns out my furnace had a carbon monoxide leak going into my basement bedroom.
It is right for the teacher to inquire, but discretely in private, to make sure the student is OK. But to do this in public only shows the teacher's fragile ego, angry that they are not always utterly fascinating.
She Was Six. Why Would She Be Lying About That?
omg yeah like imagine losing a child (awful) and then have some person say this
Load More Replies...I had a first grade teacher that was angry with me because i didn't know my mom's name. No one spoke about my dead mom, and my stepmother refused to tell me her first name because she said it was rude for a child to call an adult by their first name.
I don't know , but people do lie about family deaths. One woman I was involved with told me that her mother had died in an airplane crash. One day at her apartment the phone rang while she was out. I answered it, and it was her mother. (Later I found out that she was out because she was out cheating on me.)
Load More Replies...There was one I read about where a woman who'd just had a miscarriage went to the store to return all the baby stuff she'd obviously no longer need. The clerk decided to berate her for the returns. "Oh, I get it, this stuff isn't expensive enough or fancy enough, amirite? You just want to return stuff that someone carefully, lovingly picked out, because you're so materialistic that you just want fancy, expensive stuff." "If you must know, I just had a miscarriage. Now that my daughter's dead, I don't need this stuff anymore, but thanks for your unwanted advice." "Oh..."
She didn't express sympathy or sorrow. She expressed she's got some kind of psychotic and strange thinking disorder
Even if she was (lying), wtf is it the teacher's business to say anything to anyone about it?
Meanwhile, parenting blogger Samantha said that there's no one-size-fits-all approach when dealing with teacher-related issues. However, she revealed to Bored Panda what approach she took not too long ago.
"I actually recently had an issue with my daughter’s first-grade teacher. She is an older teacher who is not very responsive via the school’s email system. Because communicating with her was so difficult, I told the principal at the end of the school year about my struggles with the teacher. I then requested a teacher for next year who I know to be very responsive," the founder of Walking Outside in Slippers said.
"But I don’t think there is any right way to deal with school or teacher issues. I would defer to the parents to decide what is best for their child and situation," she added.
Toxicity At Its Best
“It’s easier to punish the victim than to actually solve the bullying problem” ok but that doesn’t excuse anything at all
I was quiet (keep your head down) ADD wasn't a word back then. elementary teacher loudly and disparengly announced every mistake I made. I have to say my classmates never bullied me, she was mean and they couldn't stand her either
Good Lord I hope that teacher is never on a jury. They'd convict the victim!
Not only is that wrong on so many levels, it's cruel :( I hope you are all right now.
Kinda similar thing happened to me. There was this kid in my 4th grade class who kept threatening kids including me and the teacher said all she could do was move ME to a different class. I refused because I would have to catch up a lot and meet new people. The kid eventually moved in the middle of the year but I was genuinely terrified of this kid, along with a bunch of other students, and the staff didn’t do anything about it! It goes back to what you said. Punish the victim but not the bully. I’m so sorry that happened to you 😢
Always tell your parents anyway. If someone bullied my child, I would put the fear of God in them, and let them know that if anything happened to my kid, I'll be coming for them. I hate bullies with a passion, but sometimes, you've got to fight fire with fire.
Load More Replies...I was sent out of class many times because I was bullied and their taunting over powered the class (not sure why I was bullied but I think it was due to being quiet/shy) ..one time I flipped out and threw a chair lol .. ugh .. my school life was hell..
5th grade teachers must have a tradition of being weird like that. When i was in 3rd grade the 5th grade teacher called the office because 2 of her students found my toys i had lost at recess. I came to her class to retrieve them, but when the two girls saw who i was (i was the odd duck with no mom and no friends everyone picked on) they told me they were their toys. The teacher agreed with them and told me to go back to class. Wtf! She's the one that called the office about the toys they found! My teacher had reported to the office what i had lost.... why did me being me make it ok to basically steal my toys?
Same thing happened to my little sister 😢 kids are so cruel.
I was in hospital with pneumonia so my parents were looking after my daughter while my husband was at work. Head lice was running through the school and she got sent home after she was checked. My dad bought the shampoo and comb kit and took care of it right away then sent her back to school. They checked her hair and promptly sent her home where dad repeated the treatment. He then sat with her and went inch by inch through her hair checking every spot he could find. Took over an hour. Next day, brought her to school himself. Teachers checked and sent her home, each time in front of the class. She was in grade 3 or 4 and she was so embarrassed. So dad goes to get her and goes into the principles office. Dad has never gone into the school, and he raised 6 kids of his own but he was very upset with them. Told them to show him the lice, they showed him and when he looked he picked it out and gave them a closer look at the piece of dandruff they embarrassed his granddaughter over.
I remember an episode of Judging Amy where a school called CPS on a mother who dressed her son in natural fabric, like hemp clothes, but before hemp clothes were more common. Because the clothes looked different her son was getting picked on. CPS sided with the school, accusing the mom of setting her son up for being bullied, and there was a whole debate going on. In the end CPS worker helped the mom find environmentally sustainable clothes that didn't look so different. But that episode still hit a nerve because it brought me back to my childhood getting bullied for the matching Disney sweatshirt/pants sets I used to wear.
Apparently, You Can't Be A Cheerleader And Be Smart
I would have had a hard te choosing which side (of her face I slapped)
Load More Replies...Exactly! Somebody didnt make the squad apparently!

In this case, simply a human with her own traumas who needs to deal with it and do rught by people. If she can't, she doesn't need to be teaching.
Load More Replies...You look blonde too, that's the third strike (bowling). I'm curious if this was a parochial school.
A third strike in a row in bowling is a good thing, it's called a turkey. It's only possible to do so in a single frame in the 10th (final) frame.Three strikes as an expression is a shortened form of "three strikes and you're out" and is a baseball reference, not a bowling reference.
Load More Replies...I would like to restore some faith and share with everyone the complete opposite. When I was in 8th grade I started cheerleading for my school. This meant I couldn't run cross country for school anymore. My old xc coach was also my algebra teacher. She would occasionally tease me about having "gone to the dark side." Anyways she gave me the math award that year and when announcing who she gave it to she raved about how I defied stereotypes. Not only had I proved that blonde cheerleaders could be smart, but that kids that were good at art could be good at math too.
Actually art and math go very well together. Math is used in many forms of art.
Load More Replies...This strikes a nerve. I had an 8th grade English teacher who loved class clowns. I was shy and quiet so she didn't recommend me for honors English in high school. First day in high school English, about 10 minutes into class, the teacher looked at me and and asked what u was doing there. He then escorted me to the honors classes.
The Teacher Knew What She Was Doing
Some asshat teachers would not care if he was green with orange stripes. They are just twats.

The Sheriff didn't have any better sense either a Nerf in your home is not a crime that I know of. I'm not a lawyer by any means but a basic person with common sense, the Teacher and Sheriff need some training
Do cops have nothing better to do with their lives? I'm sure this can be taken to court, which I would certainly do if this was my kid.
If you look up the Washington post article it shows a picture of the gun the guy had. It looks real to me, like a real handgun. It has lettering on the side about zombies that would not have been visible from a distance. The teacher said he kept pointing it at the screen while she was talking. Mistakes were made on both sides here. The teacher felt threatened and she's allowed to feel unsafe and take measures to ensure safety. As a teacher, I would have been intimidated by a student who is probably taller than me, repeatedly pointing a gun at the screen (and therefore, me) while I am trying to teach. Now go ahead and downvote me for raising a different take on this. He clearly wanted to make the teacher feel intimidated. There is no other reason to join your zoom class and sit there with a fake gun and keep pointing at the screen.
The teacher could have turned off the student's camera if she felt threatened.
Load More Replies...So reading the comments here, he was not charged and so doesn’t have a record. Why is BP repeating this? Obviously the fact police were called is bad enough, embellishments not needed. The teacher should be investigated and dealt with.
I don't know what is meant by "record" in the two people's tweets but Bored Panda isn't a news source and shouldn't be considered one.
Load More Replies...Obviously not the teacher, and likely never did, and holding a grudge about it.
Load More Replies...It sometimes feels like certain authority figures are out to get you. It’s not paranoia, though. Some people are so dissatisfied with their lives, so miserable and full of angst that they lash out at those around them.
Unfortunately, there isn’t an exam to thoroughly check if the person hoping to be a teacher is a completely decent human being. There are some bad apples among the droves of hard-working, empathetic educators.
When someone with a dislike for kids and education becomes a teacher, you can’t expect anything good. Some individuals have very low emotional intelligence, and they see their role in the classroom as purely technical: you put in the minimum required work, you get paid.
However, teaching is about far more than just classes, homework, and grading papers. For some, teaching is a calling. And they spare no expense in making their students’ lives better. They help guide them. They support them when they’re down. They thoroughly understand the massive responsibility they have weighing on their shoulders. And they do it anyway, even when they’re exhausted, under-appreciated, and given substandard pay. It’s these educators who we salute.
What A "Great" Teacher
One of the worst teachers I ever had moved me to the front row when I had the same problem, and when it didn't help, she whipped out her own eye chart(!), tested me, and sent home a note to get me glasses. She was still an awful teacher, but she did the right thing here.
Punished a child for squinting???? Even if they were doing it to amuse themselves, who would care?
Maybe the teacher squinted and thought the kid was mocking her/him? Only thing i could think of.
Load More Replies...At one point in high school I needed new glasses and my parents couldn't afford them immediately so my mum (who worked at the school) sent a note that I needed to sit closer to the board so I could see. One b***h of a teacher refused to let me move from my allocated seat or to stay a few minutes after class to write down the homework assignment I couldn't see from that seat, then put me in detention in the next lesson because I hadn't done the homework. The injustice still haunts me.
My parents couldn’t afford new glasses either, so I asked a teacher if I could sit closer to the board. She refused and told me that charities exist for glasses and that my parents should apply. This was 32 years ago and I’m still shocked. I often wonder what terrible thing she thought would happen if someone changed their assigned seat .
Load More Replies...My Dad was born 1923, and back then if you were left handed you were thought to have the "Hand of Satan". His teacher caned is left hand, breaking a finger & leaving open wounds, then tied his left hand behind his back. Forcing him to only use his right hand. My dad never said a word. But one of my Uncles did. The next day my Grandpa was at the school house and in front of everyone he not only berated the teacher, using the same pointer he'd used on my dad, proceeded to beat the living daylight's out of him. Told him he ever touched one of his kid's again he'd get worse. BTW my Dad who was a lefty had the most beautiful penmanship ever! Which if you didn't know isn't the norm for lefty's.
BRUHHH when I was little I was always squinting at the board, didint think anything of it but teacher saw, moved me to the FRONT of the classroom and had me sent down to the nurses for a mini eye exam. I got a slip of paper that said I might need glasses and to get a professional eye exam. Loved that teacher.
My mom's first grade teacher noticed she was having trouble seeing, and contacted her parents to have them take her to an eye doctor. (This was long ago, before schools did eye exams each year.) The doctor found she had a problem with one of her eyes that would have caused her to lose sight in it. The teacher probably saved her vision in one of her eyes. :)
When I was in 1st grade I asked if I could go closer to the board to copy what we were supposed to copy. The teacher said no it was visible from my seat. I sit back down, cause I didn't argue with teachers. Then I went to her to ask if I could copy it from a friend. Again she said no getting irritated, again saying I could see it from my desk. I then said I COULDN'T see it (ya think?). She took me out into the hall, into a closet yelled at me (have know idea what she said. I was just scared) then took me back in the room. Had me move my desk to multiple different spots until she had me stop right in front of the whiteboard. If her goal was to humiliate me, it back fired. At Recess ALL of my classmates told me to ignore her cause she was "just mean".
I just can't understand why a kid would get in trouble for squinting. It's like some teachers just become teachers so they can punish kids
That'll show him! Or, at the least, that'll show him a blurry, vague impression.
Miserable people excerting control and abuse toward children, who hires these people? And turns a blind eye
Why Would You Do That?
imagine thirsty without water: ok time to drink what i have left in my mouth!
Load More Replies...Be respectful and ask the teacher to be excused. Considering the child's language, I'm not surprised at the response though....
If a child needs a drink of water let them, kids are not that crazy, needing water is potentially an actual need, I would rather a child get up to get water than have some kind of issue.
The kid is just disrespectful, get water before the class, learn to be prepared, it's not that hard.
I do think an 8th grader is capable of planning ahead to that extent, but there would be some things I'd want to know before making a judgment on whether it was appropriate for her to walk out of class. Did the school spend some time teaching kids about appropriate behavior in this context? Did she know that, even though she's at home, to act like she's in school, including getting water between classes? That's a no-brainer for a grown up, but not necessarily for an 8th grader. Also, was the class provided breaks at appropriate intervals so kids could do things like get water and go to the bathroom? There should be a break every hour for kids to take care of their biological needs. I don't support her name-calling and inappropriate language, but I wouldn't assume she lacked good reason for getting up for water without getting the full picture.
Load More Replies...Such a weird time. I can't imagine how invasive taking online classes were for students. Many students would be in their own private rooms and to have teachers and other students scrutinize how it looks and what goes on the background wouldn't feel like their safe private space is so private and safe.
It was extremely and stupidly invasive. One boy got suspended because he was in his room on zoom and his younger brother knocked over his toy gun, a law was made basically saying school rules do not apply to home. And I was told so many times "do you have your own room to be in?" no I don't teacher I have to help my little brother with his kindergarten work because he doesn't understand it.

I slowly got dumber and I no longer know how to do double digit multiplication…. Im in 8th grade!!!
He Was The Creepy Wood Shop Teacher
this makes me so mad because are us girls supposed to leave our butts and thighs at home?? put on our school?? this also applies to girls with large chests getting dresscoded for wearing tank tops or shirts. Women having breasts/butts ≠ flaunting those breasts/butts
Well obviously if you were a good girl you'd just hold off on developing any form of feminine features until you graduate. Duh! /s
Load More Replies...As a male teacher, I see nothing and I am surprised by nothing. I make no comments, for I know that dress codes are unenforceable. I do, however, tell the boys to grow the eff up as it's only fabric and she can wear whatever the hell she wants, it has nothing to do with them, and their overreactions are sexist. (Maybe not in those words, but I make sure the message is clear).
I'd upvote your response a hundred times ;) And in many cases it shouldn't even be you having to tell those boys that, it's a parents job to do so.... but also realising that that is where most boys get the ideas from in the first place.

Those same parents told my father that his girlfriend dressed like a whore, because her dress had short sleeves... Those same grandparents put on the tv for a popmusic show but they tuned out the screen so we couldn't see all that sinfull nudeness, I'm talking Blondie and such... They themselves were brought up with these idiotic ideas and just took it over when they had their children, and I know I'm not in a position to judge that, even my parents did some of those things but not that strict... If a teacher thinks under-age girls are "provocative" in perfectly normal clothes like jeans, he or she should not work as a teacher.
Had assistant principal who would rub girls thighs to make sure they weren't wearing colored blue jeans we could only have polyester he came at once I told him if he touched me he'd take back a stump(I hate being touched) he sent me to the office so I went but as he didn't say which office I went to the superintendent office instead and told him we got a new dress code the next day (by the way I am allergic to polyester and nylon blends

The way that we approach education in modern times is vastly different from how things were done for, well, pretty all of history. Generally speaking, students are a lot less independent these days. They’re shyer and less proactive, as well.
Childhood independence expert Lenore Skenazy, from Let Grown and the Free-Range Kids movement, went into this with Bored Panda during an earlier interview.
“In the United States, for instance, school only became compulsory a little over 100 years ago. Previously—for hundreds of thousands of years of human history—kids learned simply by watching, copying, helping, and playing,” she explained how learning used to take place.
“In other words, they’d hang around the adults, see how they made things like baskets and arrowheads, they’d ask questions, noodle around, and try to copy what their elders were doing. They’d also help out as soon as they could—fetching things, tracking animals, whatever—and in between they’d be playing with a group of mixed-age kids. All these activities were fueled by curiosity,” she told us.
Teacher's Logic In Grading Math
"I said 5x3, not 3x5!" "But it's the same thing...?" "No, it's not!"
Great way to tell a student their teacher doesn't understand commutative law.
The result are the same but the calculation is wrong
Load More Replies...5 three times??? Is it not the same thing? Did they not get the same answer? Have I been doing my multiplication strategies wrong?
Yes, you're also supposed to read minds to show them the process they want.
Load More Replies...Docking points for question that have multiple correct answers? Don't know ifvteach is pretty or just stupid.
But there are not multiple correct answers. And this would have been explained in the lesson preceding the worksheet or quiz given. While this seems relatively unimportant at the elementary school level, it becomes very important in upper level mathematics. It’s much easier, in the long run, to train children in the correct manner from the beginning.
Load More Replies...Y'all are missing the point. It was about understanding the exact instructions! Look at the second statement above the problems. Using the structure of the word problem to help solve it. If the student had followed the structure of the problems, their answers would have matched the teacher's. This was actually a very good lesson!
The second statement is about word problems. Those aren't word problems.
Load More Replies...I was taught multiplication like this, something about the word/number order meaning you would write it out like this. It's an incredibly stupid method since both ways give the same answer, but if the student was taught to do it like this to help them understand what a multiplication really was, then maybe the teacher has a point. You can see it says "use multiplication strategies" not just "multiply" - I think the test was on the (albeit stupid) method that was taught, which the student did not use.
The lesson included arrays, and the order in important. If I hired you to build a doll house that was 4 rooms high, and 6 rooms wide… and you presented me a doll house that was 6 rooms high and 4 room wide, do you think I’m going to pay you?
Load More Replies...Was the teacher marking them as incorrect or showing a different way of doing it?
Looks like marking incorrect. There's a -1 next to the problem. Such a power tripping heifer.
Load More Replies...The exercise was about strategies to solve problems. Sometimes order does matter. If you have 24 tires, 6 cars with 4 tires each will transport more people than 4 cars with 6 tires.
If it had been a story problem talking about Cars and tires you would be right. But it wasn't.

Why Do Teachers Do This?
...because it always worked for your brother!
Load More Replies...I am the oldest of three... and if ONE of my brothers say one of my teaches told them this... you'll feel the earthquake
I've taught a fair number of siblings over the years, and the best thing is not to assume anything. Oh, the older brother was a real trouble maker? Well, the little sister might be an angel. Or not! Meet her and find out! :D
A teacher I had (I hated him with a blind passion) raved to my mother about my older sister being this great student! I don't know why, she skipped constantly and caused trouble when she was actually there. My mother laughed at him. I suspect there were 'favors' involved.
All through school, I managed about an 85+ average, but was always reprimanded and belittled as I wasn't "living up to my potential"
If any teacher would have done that to my sister, my mom would have exploded at them!
Hopefully my brother won't deal with this bc I'm a lot older and he's 4. I'm still in school but hopefully he won't deal with "your sister did better!!"
It's also 10x worse when you're compared on non-comparable activities. "you got a 90? He got a 98!" Yeah, but I got a 90 on advanced calculus, and he's in Algebra I. "You wrote in 40 minutes? He did it in 15!" He wrote using a 5th grade vocabulary, and poor grammar, about a trip to the zoo. I wrote about the complexities of modern health care, across three major government systems vs 18th century medicine, at a university level, and I'm in 8th grade." People do this with degrees too :(
My 6 Year Old Son's Teacher Marks All Of His Answers With A "1" Wrong Because Of His Unique Way Of Writing It
Even when he shows his work. He loves math and he was super bummed.
I was taught to write ones like that since it makes it easier to see exactly which digit you wrote when writing under horizontal lines (f.i doing division). I was also taught to put a small line halfway down on sevens for the exact same reason.
Load More Replies...That teacher would have a hard time in France. We all write 1 like this kid
Same here in Germany. And to not confuse it with a 7 there is often added a little horizontal line in the middle of the 7's "leg".
Load More Replies...Even the ‘1’ in a keyboard looks like that… that’s honestly so petty
In dutch we would call that teacher a "azijnzeikerd", it doesn't translate really well (vinigar-pisser) but this is just petty.... it's obviously a one. To grade this as wrong is just wrong, that's not how you motivate the young ones....
4th-9th grade Math teacher here. I teach in the US and have always taught my kiddos to put a line through their 7s, a line through their z's, a slash inside of their zeros, and the variable x with a wavey line crossed by a straight line, as well as teach them the other ways to write multiplication. I've always told my students that if any other teacher complains, corrects them or marks points off, I tell them that is the correct way to write them bc of the reasons listed here and for the teacher who doesnt like it to come to me so I can explain it to them emphasizing that I also have a degree in mathematics, not just middle school math. Shuts them up real quick lol
Nice. I am in Canada but have always written all of these, just as you suggest, so as to avoid any potential misinterpretation.
Load More Replies...Yes. But my English teacher taught us that we write 7 differently (with a horizontal line through the long line: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/Hand_Written_7.svg ). In English the 7 is without that line, so when we write "English" numbers, we would have to write the 1 differently too.
Load More Replies...My school system didn't have a very good math program. Instead of accepting that I was failing at math, my grandmother insisted that my number 4 be written with a closed top and that's why I'm failing because of the illegible number 4. Actually if I had done what she suggested, I'd probably get even more points removed from my score because no one wrote it that way. My math teacher was a home Economics teacher. Not sure how they moved her to teach algebra, but that did.
It isn't unique. It's correct. 'I' is a letter (and the first person singular in English language) and 1 is the only correct and appropriate way of writing a number in a numerical context. If you were writing it in a verbal context it would be 'one' so the teacher is exceptionally ignorant and is not qualified to teach maths to toddlers. What the teacher wrote isn't correct in either context.
“You were motivated to learn what the bigger kids in your group knew, too, because they were so cool. Your entire day consisted of observing and practicing the stuff you needed to know— skills and games. If you weren’t curious, you weren’t going to enjoy life, or succeed at it,” Lenore told Bored Panda that kids were driven by a desire to become competent and be respected within their social circles and communities.
Asked My Professor For A Few Days Extension
"difficult times" ok, sure, it is a hard time for all of us. But most of them wouldn't have a loved one die
Seriously! This reminds me of my time in retail - my dad died last year, and they allowed me to leave work the day he got taken to the hospital hospice/end-of-life care floor (long story, basically he had been disabled for 20+ years). I stayed with him and held his hand the entire night until he died at 3:15am. Texted my store manager at 6:30am to let him know my dad had died. I was literally typing a second text asking for the day off, and manager’s reply came in: “I’m sorry. See you at 1:30pm.”
Load More Replies...If there are"many" who are having difficult times, then there should be "many" who are getting needed extensions. There. That's how you be consistent with your students. Be consistently Kind.
Dear Prof: Get a brain and at least half a heart. That would be so much better.
"Many of my students are having difficult times. And I don't give a damn about any of them."
I'd respond with "Try to grow a heart. That would be much better. I'd like to be respected by all my teachers because I am having a difficult time."
Your parent dying is about as difficult as it can get. Humility and decency are more helpful in difficult times then being a pr_ck and I'm sorry for the loss of your Dad I wish mine was still with me too
I would have responded that I understood perfectly. Consistency is important. Without consistency, other students would complain. So, if he found that, in the name of consistency, he needed to grant an extension to another student because they’d also had a parent die, I would understand entirely and would lodge no complaints. CCs to the Chair and Dean, of course. They should know what a fine job he’s doing in being consistent with his students. (I’ve been an adjunct professor at university. This dude sucks.)

Did some kids just want to get out of class? Sure. But I am not going to be a d*ck about it. Just go. Do what you have to do!
The worst is when the teacher (usually male in this case) won't let you go to the bathroom during that time of the month. Heavy flow is heavy flow, and there's no stopping it. It's not easy when you're new to it. You don't want to shout it from the rooftop but you don't want to walk around all day with a jacket around your waist and a ruined pair of pants either.
Load More Replies...Have you ever noticed that it only happens in schools. I'll ever dare to say hall pass is USA thing?! In work, college and real life you cannot be stopped from going to toilet. It's illegal. When I went to school we just had to stand up, say "just a second" and just.go. return and continue on with class. No finger pointing, no accidents, no reporting over class of your type of needs is it 1,2 or god forbid a period.
I had a worse situation and I asked my "spanish" teacher if I could go to the restroom. Her response was "finish the exit ticket first." It was that time of month, I leaked. My next teacher let me use the restroom and I was able to clean up. My mom called the school and I was allowed to go whenever without asking. If I could've done your response I would've.

Load More Replies...Unfortunately, these days, children are less curious and have trouble with motivation. That’s not to say that things are all bad. However, there’s a tendency for students to be passive (because that’s how schools work; they demand compliance) and to lack a focused inner drive.
“One reason kids might seem less curious today is because most of their education, inside and outside of school, doesn’t require self-motivation, it requires compliance. The drive is extrinsic, not intrinsic. Kids fill out worksheets because they have to, not because these seem interesting, or have any immediate connection to the ‘real’ world,” Lenore said.

You can't give bonus points or grades for anything that isn't tied into the curriculum. This teacher probably violated two major county policies and is likely no longer working as a teacher.
As an author with a book on Kindle Select - you get paid for unique page views. By having the kids flip to the end of each book, even without reading the books, the teacher gets paid. This is assuming the kids are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited. If the books are free, then he's just trying to get reviews. Edit: Why does BP keep sticking my stand-alone posts under someone else's as if I'm replying?
It is still an issue because he's giving good grades in exchange for reviews. That's illegal and a major issue on Amazon. He can get his membership revoked for it and even be sued.

I'd been telling my parents all semester how uncomfortable he made everyone, and how noone trusted him, but they laughed it off. When You Need A 90% Or Above To Pass The Class But Your Teacher Is A Jerk
Is the teacher a jerk? Or did they grade you fairly and this is the result? Given the amount of decimals this seems like an automated system grading an online test. If my students fail their tests then they fail, doesn't matter if they missed it by 10 points or by a 1/10th of a point, I have no control over that.
But by 1000th of a point? That's ridiculous. Most times you have a choice how many decimal points out to go and whether to round to whole numbers. Only an antagonistic tight-azz twit lets it go out like this far.
Load More Replies...Same for mine. If you have a, let's say 89.6-89.9 it'll round up, but if you have a 89.0-89.5 it won't round up.

I remember one time we were graded by how we compared to the average grade. One student must have made some cash that day or something because one grade was a miserable fail and we almost all got As.

I don’t know about other school districts, but high school kids who are seriously ill get extra time and tutoring at their own pace, even through the summer months so they can get their state required classes (not every class you take in school is required) and keep up with their class for graduation. A friend of mines daughter was in a terrible car accident that broke her neck and back, so when she was feeling better, she was able to keep up with school at home. She graduated with her class which was important to her
Why don't teachers contact parents over absence to find out what's going on and what "old days" is she taking about she's still working or doing functions she thinks are work

Maybe that teacher needs to get their eyes checked because that cleary is an ur
It clearly looks like a 'ur' but more importantly, a 'w' would be a really strange mistake for a child to make. Odd assumption on the teacher's part.
I got a C on a handwritten English paper because my teacher said I made my uppercase Gs wrong and he counted off for every instance. When I talked to him about it, he said it wouldn't have happened if my paper was typed. It was the 80s, we didn't have a typewriter at home, and my mom was working nights at the time and couldn't take me to a library. It was a good paper otherwise, but I was penalized for being poor.
I write my ur just like that and it has never been mistaken for a w. Teacher needs an eye exam.
I can only see it as a "w" after being told it was mistaken for a "w"... which makes me believe the teacher is looking for an excuse to mark down the student. This might be a case of a teacher being petty and trying to give a studemt a worse grade than they deserve because they don't like the student for whatever reason.
That's Very Sad
End of the year. The last drawing lesson before the exam. The teacher told me that my work was disgusting and she would burn it so that no one would see it. I cried all evening in the toilet. And you know what they gave me? 5. Jury and other teachers.
Yep. My instructor only painted/drew Baptist church women in hats, but called my work "redundant", and gave me a "B"... I've posted some art on here before, and it was waaay better. She didn't like anyone showing her up. (Thanks for wasting my time, passion, and money O.S-... )

Teacher Said We Need To Get 90% Or More On The Quiz, Only Made 9 Questions
Sounds like you needed to get all of them right. Doesn't seem to hard to understand
I had a teacher that did something similar. She would tell us we needed an 80 or above to leave the class. The quizzes were 5 questions. That meant that you could only miss 1 question to leave. (There would be sometimes that she'll let you leave if you got a passing grade on the quizzes and is still passing the class.) (Also this is the same teacher I talked about in a comment of another post on this list about plagiarism).
As long as there was no punishment, she meant to say that she expected a full score. I honestly don't see anything messed up here, UNLESS something bad happens if you don't score it.
My Previous Math 1060 Professor Has Nearly A 50% Drop Rate, 30% Fail Rate, And A Mere 20% Pass Rate. Didn't Take Me Long To Find Out Why (Actual Snapshot From Hw)
One would think a teacher with a staggering 50% drop rate (let alone the 30% fail rate) would be cause for investigation and/or firing.
It depends on the course. My uni used a 100 lvl accounting class to weed out non-serious business students. The class had a 60+ drop out rate that had actually gone down with a new teacher. It was an 8 week class, the entire reason I took it. I expected more of the T style accounting I had learned in high school... Nope... My highest test score was 36%

My Teacher Lost My Final That Took A Week To Do And Gave Me A Zero, Claiming I Never Turned It In
Same exact thing happened to me with my drawing final. It was probably one of my favorite pieces I'd done and my teacher just lost it! And she didn't even apologize, she accused me of putting it in the wrong turn in tray or something... needless to say I did not take her class after that
Make no mistake, none of these works of art were lost. The teacher stole them knowing you would want them back.
Load More Replies...A classmate had a teacher tell her she had not handed in her final big paper. She made it clear that she had and that he needed to check his desk a second time. He told her that he would do that but she needed to be ready with a second copy. Problem was that this was the early 2000s and we still used floppy discs and computers in general were less reliable and her document had been damaged so she was having tons of trouble getting all the pieces together again. The day she had gotten things together he came to her and apologized. He had found her paper that he had put inside an empty bag of potato chips for some reason not even he knew. He apologized for the problems he had put her through and his own sloppiness. That is what you do if you are a real decent human.
One of my friends turned in his assignment and it was graded. Then he got it back. There was a zero in for his grade saying he didn't do it. The teacher tried to tell him that he didn't turn it in. The principal got involved. The principal told my friend that the teacher was very reliable and didn't believe him. My friend went to his locker, found the paper, and showed it to them. It was graded with a 100. It got corrected.
Yep. Wrote my biology final. Parents came in for parent's day. Teacher said I didn't write it and I was lying, maybe I skipped school. Best friend was like, "he was there, I know because I was trying to copy his answers" Parent's were furious at the teacher. Still recorded as a "0" on my high school report.
Submitted a video assignment that said it needed to be approximately 3 minutes. It was 3 minutes and 9 seconds total. I got a zero for not following directions.
I had a teacher who did this... I had a lovely fight with her(over email) she won't message me back... but did fix the grade
Yep. The business writing prof I had lost all of our papers and claimed we never turned them in… and entire class. She then found them and told us a so story about how she got evicted and had packed them. She was bat-s**t crazy.
If you were consistent turning in work she should have conceited that she maybe at fault at let you retake it. I don't understand people's lack of basic thinking
Best teacher ever marked a list as we turned things in. If it was lost, she knew we had done the work. Did this for everything. Homework, tests, quizzes, essays, everything. Said she once lost student's paper& knew they turned it in. So she devised this system so it never happened again. Bet it also kept kids from lying about things
Teachers Unbelievably Trashy Response To A Students Passing Away
So, the little girl was really dumb but a great domestic worker? What a tribute to that poor child.
Who thinks she wanted to stress how the girl was not the brightest academically?
But she stressed how the girl could raise her brothers while being in 2nd grade. Hell, I'd think that make her the brightest in the class. If her brothers were infants then that means she could care for a baby as a second grader. But still, caring for someone younger than you requires great intelligence especially at a young age. I believe she'd have improved her academics as she got older. When her brothers could take care of their own selves.
Load More Replies...When kids are having to basically be the parents thier attention shifts to what they believe to be the more important issues in their life at the time. Under no circumstances does it mean they aren't bright or academically gifted. It just means they're focusing on what's important at the time. That teacher was just being a twatwaffle.
Genuine question... Is the the response being called trashy for saying the student wasn't bright in some fields?
Yes - basically the question is, what is the point of even bringing the student’s intelligence or academic performance into this? What does it have to do with her death? Why does it matter? That’s why the teacher is a horrible person - they aren’t focusing on the fact that a 10-year-old got shot and killed - they’re (for some reason) bringing up the student’s intelligence, which has NOTHING to do with her tragic death.

Why harp on her "not being the brightest academically"? Leads me to think she didn't like her at all or is taking pot shots at the parents.

Shocking. I have to write formal emails to teachers and in return, I get an email with misspelt words and barely any formality
So, they clearly got the first email and understood it, yet made the conscious decision to be an a$$hole anyway. Smh.
I am looking at the "professor's" note. The use of "Hi" is too informal. The word "hi" is really for use in conversation. It is awkward and inappropriate for written professional communication. He should have used "Hello" or the conventional "Dear". And his closing is meaningless....."Thanks"???? What is he thanking her for? More appropriate would be the conventional "sincerely" or maybe "respectfully". Clearly this person needs some remedial work. His English education is not complete.
Exactly. Add in the super odd informality of using his first name only. Are they friends?! I personally like "Best Regards" as a closing salutation. It works for everything

Load More Replies...I had a professor do this in a away. It was English 100. After midterm he called a group of students to the front and told them to leave. With the grades they had they could not pass and to withdraw and not waste their time and to focus on their other classes. One student was like I was sick for two weeks and it's not fair because she pointed to me and said I had miss the same time and I was still able to say. This is true but I was in the hospital the entire time. But as soon as I went in I emailed the professor and told him. I even on the second week of my time in hospital I turned in some work. Come to find out I had crones. And he looks at her and say that is true but unlike you he stayed in contact with me the entire time and he also tried and do work. He said you didn't say anything until you were back and class an had no paperwork to back it up. On top of that I asked if I could make up the work and she didn't.
I had a professor who had a policy that you fail the class if you miss more than three days in a semester. Silly me, I assumed that meant non-excused absences. I had an illness that semester that landed me in the hospital repeatedly. I had a doctor's note for each of my three absences and a perfect score in the course. It was a huge shock when she told me to never come back because I had failed the course due to absences. She wasn't in her office during hours, so I just sat in the hallway bawling (I was a freshmen). Another professor came along, asked about my plight, and took it to the head of the department who told her she couldn't fail me for going to the hospital but she continued to insist that it wasn't possible to miss classes and still pass. She seemed angry every time she returned a paper with a good grade and sneered at me in the halls after I passed her course. I was careful never to take another of her courses.
There are often good reasons to advise a student to drop/retake a course, depending on when in the semester this happens. This is 100% NOT the way to communicate that.

Crazy Professor
After all the stories I've heard off people just claiming a relative died to get out of work this doesn't really surprise me.
I had one student with three "deaths" in the family in one semester. I finally advised her to drop the course and retake it, because if it was true, she needed to spend time processing and healing, and if it wasn't true, she was too overwhelmed with the work load and life and all of that. My class shouldn't be her priority either way,
Load More Replies...This is actually mandatory at some universities because too many students have people "die" during exams but lie about it.
Yeah, I've taught at places with a policy that I need to see some sort of proof in a death certificate, a flier from the funeral, an obituary, something. It's to prevent the ones who'd lie about it from lying about it in the first place. I'm perfectly aware that they could show me any random person's death info from that week and I'd accept it, but the ones who are about to lie to me usually don't realize that. ;)
Load More Replies...This isn't that bad. I've heard some students had a grandfather die every month or something. It's not being mean to assume that some students want to trick the teacher. And sometime parents help them too, so asking them about it doesn't always help.
It does take quite a while to be issued a death certificate, though (I work in insurance and we can't just expect people to hand that in the day after somebody died).

He was 10 years older than me, I didn't pick my mum's husband, but he chose to be my dad and I'll be damned if some little uptight girl will say something. My senior manager was so shocked by the mangers behaviour that when I handed in my notice and called the b***h out and put everything in writing, I also received compensation and apologies, I'm still on great terms with higher management. She got demoted, fired, and pure hatred from staff. She thought she is above us all, in reality she became less than anybody just because of rotten attitude
My grandmother passed away, and I asked for an assignment extension. I was asked to prove "proof of death" and "proof of relation". I asked them how I do that, they wanted my grandmother's death certificate, my birth certificate, and my father's birth certificate. Sure, I'll just ask my grieving father, whose mother just died for all of that, I'm sure it won't upset him in the slightest.
Bit cold, but the sheer amount of times people use “Oh, I have to go to a funeral.” as an excuse is crazy. It’s generally disrespectful to ask for proof or who’s funeral it is so people get away with it.
Our Professor Wouldn't Upload The Syllabus Nor The Slides To Huskyct. We Had To Buy A $16 Book (Written By Her) To Know The Exam Dates And Course Content

Especially when they already have to pay a thousand dollars for textbooks

Yes, students should complain to the administration and keep complaining. This is info that should be accessible, no excuses.
Load More Replies...1. One person buys it 2. Make WhatsApp group 3. Person chares the dates
Even better, whole class divides the cost of the book and buys one copy together (so no one is out much money) and then follow your steps 2 and 3. Or everyone brings thier planner/calendar to the bookstore and copies down the relavent info right there, even easier to do on a phone - take pictures of it all.
Load More Replies...everyone should donate an equal amount and have one person buy it, so it could be 20 cents or something depending on how many students there are. Then just make copies. Sorry but requiring students to buy your book and actually having content that is going to be studied in it is one thing, forcing them to leave reviews or buy it in order to get a passing grade is another. it's extortion. they are already paying you out of their tuition.
Paying for the syllabus? Paying for information on a course one already paid for? Despicable!!! :(
And She's The Professor
This looks more like a technology error than a teacher error. Could be both.
Yeah, whoever made the answer key is the one at fault.
Load More Replies...Most of you guys aren't seeing the problem - it's not the order of the answers, it's the fact that for answer 1 (Sydney) the teacher mis-spelled the correct answer as "Sidney". Therefore, the correct spelling of "Sydney" is seen as incorrect.
I think this one boils down more to the person who made this quiz (coding it) made the mistake, and not so much the teacher. Unless the teacher coded the quiz, then I'd have contested the grade.
In A Classroom. Boys Bathroom Also Has Multiple Signs
I already posted this on the list, but I was the 51st person so it might not show up. We had teachers say that bathrooms were not necessary, and we had a girl just get up and p**s in the trash can. I mean full blown Got up in front of the teacher, pissed. And when she got a suspension she waved out at us as she was driving away her car smiling. She literally was the start of our quote unquote 'revolution' about the bathrooms. eventually the teachers revoked it, when I threatened to take it to the next parent teacher meeting, and threaten to take it in front of the school board. I had a five-page article written up about the importance of using the restroom. Then they revoked it
I just commented on another post about a teacher who wouldn't let me use the restroom. I was 13 years old at the time and menstruating. It really should be illegal for teachers to do things like this.
Ugh these teachers deserve a slap. It was the same in my school. They would lock the toilets that were in the "playground" to not need to clean them. And during class you couldnt go. The only moments you could go were before starting the day, after recess and before/after lunch. I bled a lot and had so many bleeding accidents.

You Know Your Professor Is Actively Looking To Hurt Your Grade When
Try to set 1'' margins in word, print it. Then insert another paper and print it again. Chances are the margins will differ between prints. Home printers are not that precise machines and when you don't tune the paper tray correctly, the printout can easily be off like in the picture. Not everyone has industry-level printer at home, or know how to set it precisely. The teacher is just being an a*****e.
Load More Replies...If the picture is the actual photo, you should go back to the prof. Rulers/measuring tapes are only accurate to 1/32" and the lines on the ruler start measurements from the right side of the line. SOOOOO, if you move the ruler left and grace of 1/32" it probably is dead on. But I'm the A*&hat that would make them rescind this because the professor is actually 100% wrong and 100% a D**K.
This depends on what they're teaching. Looks like a science paper: In most scientific journals and conferences the requirements are really strict and if you don't follow the requirements, you don't get your paper in. So this is actually good in that it teaches the student they have to follow format exactly.
I will say this though, I used to smudge out the margins and reduce the font and line size (like 9.8 instead of 10) and check different font types to find space for extra words. I was always pushing the maximum allowed size of every paper in every class ever. It *really* bothered some of my teachers and at least one introduced a min/max word count instead of page count. I would have totally understood one of my teachers doing this, cuz I probably would have deserved it.
I once spent $700 on a Minolta color laser printer. Margins were rarely correct. Always off by a bit. I called the manufacturer to ask how to fix it. They said variances of up to 6mm (1/4") was considered "within spec". Completely unacceptable for desktop publishing where pages needed to be folded or cut. Garbage printer died right after the warranty expired.
Student Gets A Zero On An Assignment For Turning It In Unstapled
A teacher once took a point off a reading test , coz she wouldnt give 100percent . Even though i was the only one, according to her, that read with expression. She took a point off for my voice, im in radio partime and sing as a hobby. My voice rocks, b***h!!
When I was substitute teaching HS Seniors about to go off to college, I’d tell them to go buy a mini-stapler and keep it with them. My university (where I also taught) students informed me that they were making 25 cents per staple from their less prepared classmates.
Had the teacher made VERY clear to staple it? If so... Should have listened... I had a prof for math.. and because we show our work.. we then had to put the answer in a box... So he knew THIS is the final answer... If we didn't.. it wouldn't count. And it would be our own fault
My son's Spanish teacher in high school tried to pull this. She thought he was just taking Spanish to fool around in her class since he was a senior. I was livid. But in high school, he didn't want me fighting his battles.
I had a teacher who would dock points if you didn't staple it on the right hand side. She wanted it that way so it was easier for her to flip through and grade.
Well if they said to staple then you should. The papers will fall out, get mixed up
When Your Professor Is A Savage
You never know what's going on with a student. When I taught, a kid was kind of blowing off an assignment. I called parents since it was most of a semester grade, and gave him an incomplete so he had more time to finish. We all worked together to keep him on track. Come to find out later mom had liver cancer, and ended up dying about a year later. I really liked the kid and we were working together on this. Parents were grateful. I only found out AFTER about illness. Showed me that there are often circumstances we don't know about.
You're a wonderful teacher :) Last year my daughter's grades were really slipping fast and one of her teachers acted immediately and sent her to the school therapist. That's when we found out that she was self-harming due to depression over covid lockdown. She kept it very well hidden from us :( but her caring about my daughter got us to get her in therapy and she's doing really well, no longer self-harming and thriving in school again,. I can't thank this teacher enough.
Load More Replies...not really mean. A line has to be drawn somewhere. If everyone turns in their assignments whenever they want it's going to be a mess. A deadline has to be set. Off course there are exceptions when you have a good reason.
That is how deadlines work though...either you meet the deadline or you don't get the credit, provided they are willing to make exceptions where necessary.
Not really. There's this thing called, "Reasonable expectations." Deadlines are things you aim for, but missing a deadline hardly means absolute failure in most real life scenarios. I would say doing the assignment, and learning, is more important than learning nothing at all. This isn't a case of life or death. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
Load More Replies...Don't even bother. 5 minutes late for work? Go home and try again tomorrow
This one I could see. As a teacher, I frequently have kids turning in assignments 5-6 weeks late and demanding full credit. I've even had some turn in assignments a semester late and ask me to go back and retroactively change their grade. As a joke I put one of these signs over a paper shredder and my students thought it was funny. I do take late work in spite of the shredder, but I also need a reason other than they just forgot to do it for a month.
My mother was a junior high special ed teacher. She told her students the first day that they had to hand her their assignments as they walked into class. She gave them a pass on the first week to get used to this routine. She said that the first time, after the first week, that someone didn't turn in their assignment as they came in the door and got a zero, the kids always turned in their assignments as they came in the door. Kids aren't going to get away with doing reports late as adults in the workplace
My mom was an alcoholic when I was in junior high and I fell a little behind. My math teacher told me I could do the missed assignments for half credit. I brought them all in and he didn't even grade them. He threw them in the trash and gave me no credit. I didn't even know what to say.
My Teacher Doesn’t Give 100%
I had two teachers having a argument over me once. One teacher gave me 100% the other thought 100% should never be given, he tried so hard to find fault with my work, but could not, the first teacher won.
I had a religious elementary school teacher like that. She said noone was perfect except god, so she never gave 100% on any thing. I think that was one of my first nudges towards atheism.
I had a similar math teacher who bragged about a quiz that almost everyone fails and very few pass, and I got nearly every question right except for one. During class he went over the question that everybody got wrong and at the very end of his explanation I noticed that the answer that he wrote was the answer that I gave. I went up and asked him why I got the answer marked wrong and he said it was due to the work that I showed. I asked him what about the work that I showed was wrong because it all matched the work that he showed, and he said that I did more work than was necessary and math is about being concise. So none of my work was wrong, I just didn't erase the geometric paths I went down before finding the correct answer. He was just mad that someone was able to ace his supposedly impossible quiz.
My highschool arts teacher also never awarded a perfect score on the grounds that perfection in art doesn't exist. Though he also never gave the lowest grades on the grounds that art is subjective and someone will like it no matter what. You could still get a failing grade but never so low you couldn't compensate.
This is what happens when you consistently pay teachers terrible money. You get what you pay for in this world. Some of these actions are despicable at best but I hope everyone who is outraged prioritizes teacher pay in the next election.
As a college freshman my son had a prof with a bonkers grading system. A quiz worth 10 pts for ten questions; an exam worth 100 points forn100 questions. She would then add the accumulated pts and divide by the number of total tests. She assured it would work out by semester's end. e.g.one perfect quiz=10, + one perfect exam=100. divided by 2= a 55 average! She could not see the problem. He took it to the dept chairman. She did not return the following year.
I had a teacher that if you did the assigned work he would give you a C. That was because it was an average grade for an average student who did the average work. If you wanted an A. You needed to go up up and beyond, but was not specific about what that meant. I asked if that meant five or 10 additional vocabulary words. He said whatever you think is above and beyond. But as I continued to not know what that meant, I continuously went above and beyond and still only got a C and maybe a rare B. A lot of D's in that class... I barely passed
My dad (this was in the 1950's) had a college professor who wouldn't give 100's because he said that a 100 meant that an assignment, test, whatever, was perfect & no one's handwriting was ever perfect.

A Spanish Teacher Created A Little Controversy With The Following Homework Assignment
I was thinking that politely/friendly could be the formal/informal versions of you (tu/usted)
Load More Replies...It could be although possibly not. Saying (Spain), it was most likely indicating to use vosotros instead of ustedes because vosotros is only used in Spain. Hopefully, that was to indicate the pronoun to use, not the actual people in Spain.

Load More Replies...A Friend Just Uploaded This Homework To Facebook
Because they are specifically teaching how to estimate. This is a case of not reading the assignment's instructions.
Load More Replies...We were always taught that you round to one significant figure for estimation, which would, here, be what the teacher wrote. As long as this homework was on estimation, the teacher is totally justified in what she wrote.
When doing estimates, you round off (I.e. to the nearest 5 or 10) in that instance the 75 would still be a reasonable answer.
I would say this is a case of the teacher being a little picky, and the assignment being a little flawed. Even if it is clear the assignment is on estimation, I think they should not have used the exact numbers to avoid this type of problem.
They both are wrong. She read 28 pages on Monday. Then she read 103 pages on Tuesday. So she read about 3.xx more pages on Tuesday vs what carole read on Monday. So I would say 75 pages is not reasonable for Carole. Clearly, Carole is a slow reader, so perhaps Carole would only be able to do 36 ish pages on Wednesday. But English is not my first language, so I might be completely misunderstanding this question.
Her Teacher Sent This Picture Home. The Little Girl Is 5. Does This Teacher Thinks This Is Ok?
Again...context. This seems less like a shame post and more of a "this little girl is showing off her learning goal for the year" post.
Yeah it looks like the "I don't know how to" and "yet" are a template and each kid tells the teach what they want to learn that year.
Load More Replies...The powerful word here is "yet". If the little girl has made this statement in an empowering way then it's fine. What's important, to me, is that she identified something she can't do now but knows with enough work she will. Classic growth mindset statement.
Perhaps this is a post for the teacher to say as the goals. It looks like the I don't know how to and yet are a template. My teacher did something like this when I was in year one, but it just said I would like to learn this year. This can be perceived as passive aggressive, but I think it was done in good heart

College Professor Is Sick And Deciding To Play An Hour Long Video For The Class Instead Of Just Cancelling It
Slight defense here as a college professor... If we cancel a class, we have to make up the hour somewhere else. This happens a lot. Teachers think you aren't capable of doing as well as you did so they just arbitrarily deduct points. I wrote a paper in high school for history class. I was an excellent writer even when I was younger; I always got A's in English and was able to take college courses for credit when I was 15. But the history teacher gave me an incomplete because he felt it was 'too' good and needed time to research it to see if I'd plagiarized it. When he couldn't find anything, he deducted 5 points because he considered it late. So ridiculous. Someone being better than you at something shouldn't be punished it should encouraged! Today she took the step of literally putting baby-safe outlet covers and tape in the outlets so that we can’t charge our computers.
Why? If you use the computer for class obviously you would need to charge it.
In my school, the expectation is that students take home their school devices to charge and bring them back charged the next day, AND that they will monitor the battery as the day goes on and charge when necessary in class because all teachers have chargers or students bring their own. Most of the time, it’s not a problem, yet there are the chronic offenders who never do what they should and hold up the rest of the class. That’s when I impose consequences, like +5 points for everyone ready to go. Oh, you have to go get your charger? Go on, but no bonus for you.

She would take the "fattest" kids and make them peddle as she taught. She said it was "For their own good." These poor kids were mocked so horribly. She no longer is teaching.
14 downvotes on that hidden comment . I am convinced that those that did so do not know a pun when they read one, or that they did not know the difference between "peddle" and "pedal".

I grew up in the 80's. Seems like every teacher was like this back then (plus hitting, throwing things and name calling)

These people would be rude, they would physically hurt me, threaten to beat me up, tell me to shut the f*** up or they'd beat me, were sexist to me, and shamed me for being poor. I was miserable and came home every day in tears. My teacher knew what they were doing to me, and did nothing. My parents had to get involved with the school, and she was fired. 2 years later, I learned through my best friend that she had been arrested for trying to take a policeman's baton at a BLM protest, and was found with several heavy firearms and grenades in the trunk of her car.
Do NOT make people wait for a bathroom. This can, over time, cause issues with control, leakage, etc. So, if a kid has to go? A kid has to go!

Don't come back without a note saying you went....you are very sick!" Turns out I had double pneumonia and almost died. I would have if he had let me take the test and go home alone. This made me truly appreciate what a wonderful teacher he really was. And realize that a cruel teacher could have killed me!
University---I had a professor re-write her exam from a previous semester. She wanted to make it shorter, so she went from five possible answers to four for each multiple choice question. On several questions, she removed the correct option.
What did she do when she reviewed the exams and noticed that?

Still, the girl with down syndrome could stay. Nothing wrong with that and good for her, but I kinda felt like something was really wrong with me. My teacher was just a b*tch that didn't liked me. I was a bit scared of her.
By the looks of this article I'd say all the kids who were bullies in school grew up to be teachers!! Most of this behavior should result in firing and some even legal charges...especially the one who took a child's hearing aids away as punishment!
Before I was a mortuary student, I actually studied art back in my college years. I did a piece on an impressionist artist, as requested. However, my "professor" refused to grade it as my final work because she hadn't heard of the artist I chose to base my work etc on. :')
Took a stats class listed online as asynchronous. I have a seizure disorder and specific paperwork from the school saying such and that I am allowed accomodations. Professor required tests and assignments be done on particular days and times. Would not make exceptions for my conditions, even to allow me to do tests early, just in case. She also deleted the online lessons after the day so if a class was missed, you had no way to learn the info. She had some serious ego problems. I fully support name & shame in these cases. I am a vet with PTSD and several anxiety disorders. I got permission from school admin to miss classes if needed. I didn't miss many. But my art teacher, young lady, wasn't having any of that she only allowed 3 missed classes or gave a failing grade. I talked to her, but once again she just didn't care. I failed her classes, had two, back to back. I dropped out of the college after that. This was at the college of the sequoias also
