You don’t really care about how bad a road is until you are the one using said bad road. The same applies to snow in winter—you don’t really care about it until all of your regular parking spots become piles of snow and you can’t but try and improvise your parking until the snow melts.

Anyway, this British humor without context page on Twitter, very appropriately called No Context Brits, has recently shared a picture of a pretty rough road—one that has been patched up so much, it’s just ridiculous at this point.

And while the post got almost 95,000 likes with over 10,300 retweets and 21,100 quote tweets, turns out this bit of road wasn’t all that bad, as it spawned a slew of responses showing off all of the more horrible roads around the world.

Bored Panda has created a curated list of some of the best bad road flexes people shared in response to this now-viral tweet, which you can find below. So, go vote and comment on the ones you liked the most and why not let us know of the road situation where you live in the comment section!

In South Africa people used to drive on the left side of the road, now they drive on what's left of the road.

I laughed at this! Reminds me of when the municipality in KZN filled a pot hole with a traffic sign... in the middle of the road... by accident. Caused huge traffic and had to dig it all up and fill the pot hole correctly.

I believe this is done to force the state to take action. The state knows the roots will destroy the entire road if they do not remove the trees, and once you remove them, it makes a lot of sense to fix them.

I saw an article last year about the materials used for the wall. The concrete and steel used at that time would have been enough to repair every bridge in the US. But that is the US way - we'll spend a $1000 on a defensive system to keep arctic wolves out of the hen house because they are laying less eggs. We won't spend a dime to fix the latch on it or buy a rooster to make more hens.

Bad construction where they didn't leave any expansion joints. When concrete heats up it expands but when there's no room to expand it will form these dangerous ramps. Since summers are getting hotter in Europe this is an increasing and costly problem.

During the Bush era of the war, there was an attempt to connect all of the rural villages to Kabul by new roads. The theory was a big reason the Taliban was in power was many villages were in mountain valleys that were nearly impossible to leave. Make it easier to get out, you can escape a warlord, send your daughter somewhere she won't be stabbed for reading, etc. They built the first 25 miles. It melted and was driven on by the US Army, making it look like above. The plan was abandoned and the funding earmarked for it went to drone development - that way we could see what was going on better. The Hague would like to talk to the US about how that turned out.

This is how roads looked in ancient Rome. The iron rims on the cart wheels were pretty hard on the cobblestones. You can still see this in Pompeji. When the grooves got so deep that the carts would get stuck, they had no choice but to renew the stones.

Suddenly potholes don't seem important at all. The children of the world though..that's what we should all focus more on. These poor kids these days face such vile and disgusting treatment at times by those who swore to protect them. I pray for kids every day and I don't even have any of my own. If you want to find a bad road, check out General de Gaulle Drive on the New Orleans city limit on the Westbank. There are blocks there than you can't drive over faster than about 2 mph unless you want to lose the bottom of your car. I moved away from that area right before Katrina, but I'll bet that road still looks *exactly* the same.

I think I've driven down that street in NOLA! And then there's the Bienville & Jeff Davis intersection that will take out the undercarriage of your car if you drive over 1 mph!

From a news article on US bridge safety - Nearly 231,000 U.S. bridges need major repair work or should be replaced, according to an American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) analysis of the just released U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2019 National Bridge Inventory (NBI) database. That figure represents 37 percent, or more than a third, of all U.S. bridges. More than 46,000 of those bridges are “structurally deficient” and in poor condition. They are crossed 178 million times a day. An additional 81,000 bridges should be replaced. Estimated cost to repair them $164 BILLION.

I've seen this other places with the theory you build the replacement span underneath then raise into place afterwards to minimize the time the bridge is down. If its the sole bridge into an area, every day down could be worth lives.

And yet when I visit Illinois from Wisconsin and have to pay your tolls, your highways are total S**T. Where is that money going?! Because it's certainly not going to fix the freeways. I know ours aren't the best either, but at least we're not taking visitors' money and saying it's to fix the freeways. What a bunch of BS. I know y'all feel the same way, too.

In Chicago these have to be cemented down with globs of asphalt. Otherwise people take them to the metal recyclers and sell them.

We have those in the Kansas City metropolitan area too! And they're not always "glued" down with asphalt, so they make a lot of noise when vehicles go over them, plus the edge of the plate can damage your tires.
