Owner Finds A Baby Possum Clinging On To Her Dog’s Back
766Kviews
Finding a small animal latching on to your beloved pet’s back might seem like a scary scenario at first glance, but sometimes it can be a rather wholesome moment. As in the case of Sally Watkinson who discovered a baby Australian ringtail possum clinging for dear life to her puli dog’s back.
The woman shared this incident on her Facebook page by posting a set of pictures showing the cutest little possum hitching a ride on her dog Kato’s back. She also shared some details about the whole thing, including the fact that it happened twice!
First, Sally found a tiny female possum sitting on one of her pets’ back. Luckily, neither of her dogs seemed to notice or mind the little marsupial. Her partner Jon spent the afternoon looking for wildlife rescue organizations to help and the dogs were eventually taken to the vet whereas the possum was taken to be later transported to the care of wildlife rescue.

An Australian woman made an unexpected discovery when she noticed a small animal clinging to her dog’s back
And then, only a day later, Sally shared an update that it happened again. This time, the Australian woman found a baby boy clinging to her dog’s fur. “This one was annoying him a bit more as it seemed to be digging in a bit, Hugo [her other dog] was still ignoring it,” Watkinson shared in a Facebook post.
“This time, the vet nurse nearly fell off her chair when we turned up,” Sally detailed their second trip to the vet’s, with yet another baby possum. This one was a boy possum and as the woman reported, he “should also be ok”.
In the comments under her original post, Watkinson also shared some additional information about the situation. The babies are well taken care of by a wildlife carer and will be released back into the wild when they’re ready. The couple speculates that the poor possums were orphaned because a possum catcher took their mother. “Possum man has not returned calls regarding what happened to the mother, therefore, no opportunity to reunite and release,” the woman shared the disheartening news. She also reported that they’ve consulted with the vet who informed them that such possums as the ones found usually have a litter of 2-3, so they are keeping an eye out in case there’s a third one somewhere.
Bored Panda has reached to Watkinson for additional information. We sure are glad that the tiny possums decided to cling to their canine rescuer who, thankfully, didn’t mind the little marsupials hitching a free ride on his back.

Cute story...but they said that this happened in Australia. So does this possum spit acid or some other freaky thing? Cause after the 8 foot spider & fire starting hawks stories I find it hard to believe there just cute little harmless possums in Australia
Lol they are cute and harmless, but have invaded next door new Zealand so here (nz) they are considered a pest
We have to blame stupid humans for that one though Lauren.
Sadly :( even though it's a movie quote I still think Hugo weaving said it best in the matrix when he likened humans to a virus: no balance, just multiply, spread, deplete, repeat (paraphrasing lol)
Feed them an apple and their your friend forever. They can also nest in your roof if you have an open eave(an they're noisy)
Have possums arrived in NZ swimming or hidden a cargo of something or, as usual, an idiot decided to take " such a cute little animal" there as a pet? In Spain there's an awful problem with raccoons. Some years ago people bought them as pets, and they set them free when they realised they where not cute soft toys. The result: vast areas invaded by an animal that eats everything they can find and has no natural predators.
I'm not sure how possums came to nz, if they were introduced or stowaways on Australian shipments historically. That's insane that they brought raccoons to your country as a pet! In those time ppl just didn't understand. In Australia they introduced (I think) cane toads to control some kind of pest: now cane toads are a scourge that destroys crops and ecosystems apparently it's quite an issue
Possums are harmless and they eat ticks and other nasty bugs, they are good for the environment
They are cute and harmless our possums
The little cuties are adorable. :)))

When they're babies they're cute. They don't stay that way, though.
You're thinking of the American ones--called Opossums. Although both are marsupials, they aren't related to possums from Australia. Here's a full grown one--definitely still adorable! animals_he...6dc330.jpg
OK. Totally happy to admit I'm ignorant. Maybe some weird breed, but 'ain't never seen a dog with dreadlocks. More concerned about the dogs welfare than the damn possum. Am I missing something? Please educate me.
multiple breeds of dogs have hair that grows like this naturally (Puli and Komondor are two of the more popular ones). It makes them waterproof and these breeds are all herding dogs that would be out in the fields.
Tibetan Terriers are also common for dreadlocks
It's a mop. Hard to ring out. The latest $19.99 product with $700 in shipping costs. Possum extra.
😄😄😄😄
Had a family member have one and she was happy as Larry. To my limited knowledge its specific to the breed and they have no issues or pain, unless one or two get matted/damaged and you have to cut it off, other than that she was just fine.
A friend of mine had them and the only issue they had was it took like a day for their hair to dry if they got wet.
Do they shed a lot?
also the italian breed bergamasco naturally grows locks, but they are bigger compared to the puli and komondor ones seduto4.jpg
You clearly haven't seen a komondor in person. :D
If you do a search for dog with dreads you will find a link right at the top that shows the 6 breads that have them :)
Not dreadlocks. Floor mop, yes! Love these doggies, very unusual.
Komondors also have dread locks. They are common on dogs that are bread to go after waterfowl. The dreads make them waterproof so that they won't freeze to death in frigid waters. Portuguese water dogs even take it a step further by being low in dander and perfect for homes of people normally allergic to dogs.
I was wondering if these dogs shed a lot. I imagined they did, as they have so much hair. They are beautiful and adorable!
That's what I thought too, soon cool to see that dogs can have dreadlocks! (Certain breed obviously, not every dog :p)
Their hair grows that way naturally. It's the breed, puli.

I mean a pugs or bulldogs face naturally grows so they can’t breathe properly. Breeds of dogs are nothing natural

So... breeding. NOT natural.
The trait originally had to occur naturally in order to be isolated and bred into the animal. It's not like we stuck a segment into their genome to code for curly, kinky fur. It happened naturally and humans simply kept it going by mating those with said trait with each other.
It IS natural on 5-7 different AKC registered breeds. So YES, natural!!!
