I've recently had a lot of success peeling garlic. I take both ends firmly between my fingers and twist them in the opposite direction (similar to shrimp head). then it can usually be solved almost completely. Sometimes I tap it with the flat side of the knife and the shell is loose and the rest can be loosened with the help of the knife. After preparing garlic, wash your fingers and the knife in water, rubbing your fingers on the knife and then they won't smell afterwards

I haven't peeled potatoes in years. Just keep the skin on. (mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, roasted potatoes, potato salad--I can't think of anything that really needs peeled potatoes, but examples welcome)

One day a short little man popped his head in, very flustered and clearly frustrated and in rush: "I don't suppose you know where I could get a dickie bow, do you?" Well, we did not, sadly...Another one: our shop used to be an Asian hair and nail salon. About a year after that closed an another year after we've been there a lady came in, asking for a hairdo. We told her that all the electronics around her were not decoration, we in fact just sold those, we did not do hair. She blinked a few times, then asked: "And if we go upstairs, then you do hair?"

It is like that, and to my then 18 year old self it was one of the most horrible experiences ever. My mind did understand that it was much safer that way, but that did not help one bit. 24 years later I still shudder to think about it. My gratitude is always with the young hero of a boy who saw my green face, sat down in front of me, and kept telling stupid jokes basically without taking a breath until we finally emerged on the other side.

I can only speak of my dear old cat, not humans. She had a peaceful, slow way to passing, and while it was clear that she is nearing the end, for about a week it was not clear exactly when she would go. Then on her last day I knew immediately that it will be THAT day. She smelled exactly like autumn leaves. Never been near death before, but I guess the knowledge might be stored deeper than personal memories. Sure enough, she did go in about 12 hours. I kept the top I was wearing that day for a long time, because I could smell that autumn scent on it, and it was the last thing she left behind.

The one that loved me from my age 10 to 30 with zero hesitation, expectation or manipulation passed away 12 years ago. A long time, you could say, you should be over it. And most of the time I am, I'm aware of the loss, I miss her, but I live a happy life. I often won't think of her much for long periods. Or when I do, it's pleasant, I can remember all the nice things, and the fact that she went so peacfully, in my arms, as she deserved. Every Sunday I light a candle for her, then get on with my life. Then this year on her death's anniversary I had a bad meltdown, sobbed like it happened five minutes ago. It surprised even me. Next day I was all right, but now I think of her more often again, and I miss her so bad. And by the way, she was "just a cat" . There is no getting over grief, there is no end of it. If you love someone, losing them will leave a mark forever. You can survive it, sure, and get on with your life, but the loss is always there. And when you have to carry it alone because talking about it won't be met with understanding, it makes it that much harder. With my pain being this hard over a wonderful little pet, I dread to ever finding out how much worse it can be when it's your favourite person you're losing.

Someone Asked People To Share "Real But Crazy Facts That Could Save Your Life" And Here Are 30 Of The Most Helpful

Just watched an episode of The Good Doctor where this was shown, and it annoyed the heck out of me. An ambulance crashed with other cars inside a tunnel. And the medical crew just started running around triaging the injured. Then - spoiler obviously - surprise, surprise, the next vehicle crashed into them and almost killed one of them. Out of like 10 people who where able to walk after the first crash, not one thought that the absolute most important and urgent thing to do is to run like heck towards both ends of the tunnel, and signal to oncoming traffic, who obviously will have zero clue what is waiting for them inside the tunnel.

The only time I raved something that is not available for a regular person to buy was when I was in uni and during the summer we were "loaned out" to a museum to stand in for the guards who are on holiday. (No worries, not the actual security personnel, just the people who are wondering the exhibits, looking out for kids who touch the glass etc.) I spent a day in an Egyptian exhibit, and right behind be was a small glass cabinet with small trinkets. Among them was a beautiful little cat figurine. Maybe 4 cm tall, black (onyx?), and it just screamed "take me with you!" . So yeah, there, for a moment it would've felt nice to be rich enough to just buy it. But then again, what would I really do with it? This way lots of people can see it, including me. It was just a moment. I still would love to touch and hold it one day, just a little :)
