Plates. A simple round surface on which we put food. An item so mundane, you'd probably think that someone's crazy if they said that they're entertained by them. Well, there are such people, and they're not as crazy as one might imagine because there is such a thing as entertaining plates, however rare the phenomenon may be.

In my designs, I created a delicious mix of sass and class, and serve them on a plate. Literally. To put it plainly (as if on a plate), I buy old porcelain plates and give them new life by painting funny captions on them. Check out my designs and tell me what you think!

Since I was a kid, my parents pushed me to paint and do art, so I was going to art classes all the time. However, in high school, I decided to choose a different path. In my adult life, I was running some small businesses and worked for big companies and startups. Over 3 years ago after a painful breakup when I was heartbroken, my creativity exploded again. I started making dolls, drawing, making costumes and once I found a cute mini plate with baby seals on an online charity auction and I instantly wanted to write something dirty on it. This is how this journey started. I got it and painted "send nudes" on it. When I posted it on my social media, my friends went crazy and I decided that it was a cool thing to do.

I like the idea of using old plates and giving them a modern twist. I'm Polish and when I was young, it was pretty popular to hang plates on the wall and that reminds me of a granny's house. But I wanted it to be a bit naughty.

Sometimes when I see a plate, I already know what story I want to tell with it. That's the easiest case. Most of the time, I just buy plates with pictures that I see potential in and they are waiting for the perfect text. Currently, in my collection, I have around 400 plates waiting for their time to shine. Sometimes I think about myself as a machine that hoovers situations, thoughts and interactions, processes them and then some funny plate comes out.

I'm a glass and porcelain collector so I have some knowledge about valuable pieces and I never ever would use them to create my art. I respect objects and my goal is to add value to them. All the plates that I'm using are mass-produced objects that don't have an artistic value.

I think I don't have a favorite caption, but I definitely have some favorite plates. Most of the time, they are not the most popular ones as they are more complex and bitter. One of them is the one I made after my grandma passed away (in attachments, with a smiling girl with an urn). Another one is with the crocodile complaining that people are getting bitter these days. Another one is a collaboration with the great artist Olga Pawlowska where I used her painting "the shelter".

Granted, Belle fell "in love" with the beast, so I mean... Is she a furry or a monster fetishist?

The reason why I never wanted to live from my art is that if you don't like starving to death, you need to be creative all the time, so constantly you feel the pressure to make new plates. I think that's the only thing that I don't like. But I found a way to deal with that. Having other projects is the key!

Currently, I also add some other stuff to my online shop, like for example, towels (they are amazing), cups or sweatshirts with pictures of my doggo shitting. I just like to make people smile when they see objects that I create. Regarding the Very Ugly Plates project, the only thing that will happen hopefully this year is an exhibition where I'm gonna present more artsy plates about disappointment. In the future, my goal is to make dinner porcelain so everyone could eat from some funny plates. So far, I only have some festival-friendly collections where I sell plastic plates and metal mugs. As an artist, I have some new projects in mind also related to porcelain. I don't wanna talk about them yet, but I'm sure you're gonna hear about them at some point.

Yes we are! (I write in bed wearing an old robe, petting my fabulous dog and thinking about my life choices.)

Hah, my therapist hasn't changed me at all. So, you can try, but I have very little faith in your chances of succeeding. 😂😂😂

My dog: "This is not an ugly plate. This is a depiction of my forthcoming birthday."
