Ariana Grande Looks Unrecognizable After Ditching Signature Ponytail For Dramatic Hair Transformation
Ariana Grande has given fans another reason to talk about her appearance, but this time, it’s not about her weight or makeup.
The singer has ditched her famous high ponytail for a chin-length bob with flipped-up ends, leaving fans surprised by the dramatic change.
The new look comes just as Grande prepares to step away from the spotlight after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine tour.
Highlights
- Ariana Grande debuted a chin-length bob with flipped-up ends in an Instagram post on October 22.
- Fans praised the transformation, with some calling the shorter hairstyle one of their favorite looks on the singer.
- The makeover comes after Grande announced plans to take an extended break from public-facing work.
While some fans are still getting used to the transformation, others are obsessed.
“Wait, did she cut her hair or something?!? She looks amazing,” wrote one commenter.

Ariana Grande debuts a new hairstyle after years of wearing her signature ponytail
Grande showed off her new hairstyle in an Instagram post on Thursday, October 22.
The singer shared four selfies featuring a chin-length bob, with the ends styled outward for a playful, retro finish. She kept the caption simple, posting just a heart symbol.
Celebrity hairstylist Brandom Pietsch was behind the transformation. He also shared the new look online, joking, “The ponytail is taking a hiatus.”
The remark was a nod to one of Grande’s most recognizable features. For years, the singer’s high ponytail became almost as famous as her music, making the shorter cut a noticeable change for fans who have followed her career.
Grande has experimented with different hairstyles before.
Most recently, she traded the bleach-blonde hair associated with her Wicked era for a deeper, more natural shade of brown.
She also showed off her natural curls earlier this year.
However, the new bob gives her a noticeably different look, especially with its flipped ends and chin-length shape.
Fans quickly flooded social media with reactions. One person wrote, “omg she looks like a deer,” while another commented, “the short hair is soooo cute.”
Others were thrilled to see her try something new. “Might be one of my fav hairstyles for her!” one fan said.
Another added, “So fresh. But still so her.”
Some fans also praised her appearance without heavy makeup. One person wrote, “I said once, and I’ll say it again: Ariana without makeup eattttsss every time.”
Fans are loving Grande’s new look ahead of her hiatus
Grande’s haircut came after she announced plans to take an extended break from public-facing work after her Eternal Sunshine tour concluded on September 1.
Fans were particularly excited about the shorter style, with some already imagining how it would look at her upcoming film appearances.
“Can’t wait to see her with this look on the Focker in law premiere !!” one person commented, referring to her upcoming film Focker-in-Law, scheduled for release on November 25.
Another fan declared, “Ariana in her bob era (I can now d*e peacefully).”
Others wanted more of the new hairstyle. “We need more this rn I’m obsessed with her,” one person wrote.
One enthusiastic fan summed up the reaction: “she’s so perfect i feel like im gonna spontaneously combust from her cuteness and beauty like wow this hair suits her so much.”
The shorter cut also shows that Grande does not need to rely on her signature ponytail to create a recognizable look. As one fan put it, “omg who needs a ponytail with that face she could look gorgeous bald.”
Grande’s new hair look came after her announcement to step back from public life
Grande’s upcoming hiatus follows years of balancing music, acting, touring, rehearsals, and public appearances. Her representative announced in August that she planned to step back from public-facing work once her Eternal Sunshine tour ended.
The announcement described the break as “much-deserved,” citing the “endless, ongoing public scrutiny” surrounding the singer.
An insider told Page Six that Grande wanted to spend more time with the people closest to her, including family, friends, and Ricky Alvarez, with whom she has reportedly rekindled a romance.
“She’ll be spending a lot of time with her family, friends, and Ricky,” the source said.
The insider also explained that her demanding schedule had left little room for uninterrupted personal time.
“She’s looking forward to having more freedom in her day and being able to make plans without constantly working around such a demanding schedule,” the source added.
Grande has also withdrawn from the planned West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, in which she was set to star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey. The production’s representatives confirmed that they understood and supported her decision.
However, the singer has stressed that her choice to step away was not a sudden reaction to online criticism.
During a concert in Chicago, she addressed fans who worried that negative comments were affecting her. Grande explained that she had planned the break quietly and made the decision after careful thought.
“It is something that I have decided, a plan that I had quietly made a long time ago, and it’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place,” she told the audience.
She also reassured fans that online negativity would not overshadow the love she felt while performing for them.
“No matter what noises exist out there, nothing will ever be able to distort my reality,” she said.
Grande has not announced a set timeline for her return to public-facing work.
