One of the biggest and greatest values that modern western cultures and societies have is freedom. Particularly, the freedom to choose a life they want.

Not every choice is easy, though, because some choose a child-free lifestyle, but that doesn’t slide with folks who are of a more traditional approach. At the very least, it can be annoying.

But there is a dedicated place to celebrate and debate the concept of antinatalism, as seen on Reddit. Scroll down to check out some of the best memes and posts found on the subreddit and remember that it’s all to further a discussion, so join in on the debate.

This is 100% spot on, the amount of kids born to sh!tty parents is alot but if you want to adopt a dog you get hone visits, forms to fill in ect but any junkie can walk out of a hospital with a new born baby 🤯 seen it in Ireland so many times 🤢

Not only does it not make sense, current US laws are actively endangering women in so many other ways, by forcing women to carry non-viable pregnancies to the point of severe, sometimes life-altering circumstances. In Louisiana, the abortion laws are so strict that there are cases of women undergoing c-sections to remove non-viable fetuses, rather than having the historically appropriately prescribed abortion. Women, we have a fight on our hands again, and it's a fight we MUST win.

The issue of antinatalism is more than just not wanting to deal with having kids. It doesn’t officially state I don’t wanna as a reason behind it, but nobody’s stopping anyone from assuming that stance.

Anywho, there are a handful of reasons why antinatalists think reproduction is problematic and those can be boiled down to 5 key concepts.

The most straightforward reasons in support of antinatalism are the facts that [1] life entails inevitable suffering and that [2] death is inevitable.

In other words, why put someone through a life of indeterminate length, unknown perils (instant or chronic), struggles, strives and tribulations, for it all to end in an even more unknown end is unpleasant to say the least.

This also roots into the idea of gambling with another person’s suffering. Sure, some (and, seemingly, a majority) of people turn out happy overall with the lives they lead, but there is never a guarantee for it.

Then we have the argument of I didn’t ask to be born. It is generally accepted to ask someone for permission, but how do you do that with someone who won’t even be able to make decisions until several years into their life?

The answer in the eyes of the antinatalist is to not even impose that choice by not creating that situation. But it does make you think.

That last argument can be extended to include a more global reasoning.

One of the bigger arguments is sustainable population. This, of course, refers to the idea that the Earth can support so much until it becomes unable to provide enough to people to live, let alone thrive.

Sustainable population estimates range from 650,000 to 9.8 billion, with 8 billion (with 8.1 being the current global population as of this article) being the average of what most think is sustainable.

This, of course, has an impact on how climate change and other Earth-focused issues might be affected on top of sustainability. This is besides the question of how much would be enough to stabilize the planet’s ecosystems?

Lastly, if we’re thinking about it in simple terms, not everyone truly wants to burden themselves with the vast amounts of responsibility that having kids entails. Financial, social and cultural, structural, moral and ethical—all of this multiplied by three given the current state of the economy, ecology, and world order in general. Nobody needs that stress.

A little backstory: she went in for medication for cluster headaches. IYKYK. Anyway, the neurologist straight up told her it might interfere with the fetus... if she ever got pregnant. She said if that had zero plans for kids and if she did get pregnant she'd opt for an abortion. He doubled down and said that things were getting trickier on that and that she needed to bring her partner in on the conversation before deciding something like that. She currently has a lawsuit open against the hospital network for discrimination under the ACA's anti-discrimination provisions and the Anti-discrimination Act for prioritizing an imaginary fetus that doesn't even exist over herself.

When I was 17, I desperately needed Accutane for very painful cystic acne. All they did was notify my mother and me of the possible birth defects of I got pregnant, then put me on birth control. Every month I got blood tests and had to confirm that I was taking my BC pills with condoms as a backup (they wouldn't take my abstinence as a form of birth control). Give this poor woman her meds and start her on birth control if it makes you feel better. Yeesh. In a perfect world, she would have her meds without jumping through all the hoops, but until that time arrives, figure something else out besides the "bring your partner with you to talk about your body" argument.

Not cystic acne, but wanted Accutane. The doctor would only give me a half dose (useless) because I was in my 20s and might get pregnant even though I assured him I wasn’t sexually active, if I were I’d go on the pill, plus I didn’t want children and wouldn’t have the kid even if I did get pregnant. But what did I know. It was just my life.

F~~king mengeles with penises should NOT be deciding or controlling women's health care. Look up Gretchen Molannen and how "doctors" treated her, didn't take her problems seriously and what happened to her. Whether it's migraines, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, or one of many conditions that affect women, male butchers (so-called "doctors") don't care as long as women's bodies are available for male pleasure and orgasm. It sucks that womens bodily autonomy is such a mess that doctors risk jail or steep fines just for treating patients. Women face death, disfigurement, and multiple other egregious things. All could be solved with simple bodily autonomy written into law.

I take Topiramat to reduce migraine attacks. It is severly damaging to an embryo. Dialogue between dr and me. Dr: Are you currently pregnant or plan on having more kids within the next year? Me: No. Dr: Ok, fine. Be sure to always use a condom while on this d**g and go to your gyn ASAP in case you should get pregnant despite the precautions. And then I walked out with my medication. Is all this "I'll have to ask your partner first" an american problem?

Not sure if it's just an American problem, but it definitely is real here. I wanted a partial hysterectomy due to family history, PCOS, and not wanting kids. Told I didn't have the option, until I was 30, because I "might change my mind". I turn 40 this month, and I've given up. They still ask to meet my partner to get his permission. "It's never too late!" Bro, I've been having unprotected sex (safely) for 24 years. It's not gonna happen.

This is often due to medico legal reasons. For example, if it is a d**g which will cause infertility, there are many people who will insist on taking the d**g despite warnings, change their mind on having kids later and sue the hospital or doctors. In the court a written consent might have some value ,but a good advocate can twist the truths. No one want to be dragged through legal troubles and social shaming for years. And in BP , that article to be posted with headline " women heart broken as she can never be a mom due to medical negligence"
