Whether or not to vaccinate your children has continued to be a hot button argument across discussion platforms. Famous make-up and tattoo artist Kat Von D got in hot water recently for posting on Instagram that her unborn baby would not be vaccinated.

While substantial research shows vaccines are safe and vital in disease prevention, refusal of childhood vaccines at the doctor is on the rise. It could be argued that having these famous allies has emboldened anti-vaxxer groups, whatever the reason never shy away from sharing their opinions online. When science isn't on your side it can make these arguments tricky, but as you’ll see in these examples that doesn't stop them from trying. Some people tried to embellish their medical background, while others could benefit from a class in logic.

Bored Panda shares some of the best anti-vaxxer fails below, to show you better have your proof together before coming to the internet. (Facebook cover image: MangoStar Studio l Cover image: Andriano Cz)

The denial is strong with this one. Family member (other side) always said grandpa died of lung cancer because he worked in the coal mines for a couple years as a kid. Constantly denied it was because he smoked for 50+ years, only stopped a week before passing. Nope it was the coal mines.

How stupid was my grandmother who had my mother vaccinated and then she died 76 years later of cancer?

Morgan

This is how it starts. Even though this is an extreme example. Someone has a child die from an unrelated illness and in their grief they blame vaccines.

Unfortunately, I strongly suspect that they actually believe what they said. Somehow, it has to be the vaccination's fault, because otherwise it would be a senseless tragedy. They are clinging to anything they can, and probably passionately telling dozens of their friends how vaccines killed their daughter. But that's how these stories get started... thing A happened and then thing B and they MUST BE RELATED. And *that's* scary.

How does this clown know about a daughter's death? THere is hidden info here. Regardless, vaccines have an association with autism, although i think that the connection to acetaminophen (children's tylenol for example) is stronger. But it's proven that some genetic susceptibility happens to increase the risk of autism - scientifically accepted fact now - frequently resulting in mitochondrial damage. So your kid gets a MMR shot and their stomach gets hurting a lot as toxins are flushed through the system to get eliminated. Pain. Disruption of the probiotics (99% of the genetics in your body) that literally keep you alive - pain. Parent gives tylenol - double whammy. Susceptibility from genetics added to acetaminophen. Bam. Autism ONLY went down the 2 yrs that acetaminophen production dropped in the 80s. It's risen every other year. Circumcision started using "tylenol" as painkiller in 1980 - and circumcised boys immediately had significant increase in autism rates.

What is scientifically accepted FACT is that there is no causal relation between vaccines and autism, period. It has been extensively studied and disproved. Even your anecdotal "proof" that acetaminophen has a causal relationship is just that... anecdotal. It's like saying, the majority of people who die of heart disease drive to work in a car every day so driving to work in a car every day is a contributing factor to heart disease.

My doctor has a Facebook page, it has been fun over the years watching her eviscerate anti-vaxxers and anti-flu shot proponents with facts and logic. Some idiot came at her with the "for profit" argument about the flu shots and she gave a very detailed, itemized list of her expenses regarding flu shots and explained how she not only doesn't make a profit, some years takes a huge loss and made him look like a total dolt. She's awesome!

Strictly speaking, Washington had his troops variolated - innoculated with a less deadly form of the smallpox virus, variola major. Soon after Washington's innoculation process Edward Jenner worked out that inoculation with the much more harmless vaccinia virus (commonly known at the time as copox) gave cross-protection with smallpox, and instituted the practice of vaccination. Washington's innoculation, whilst completely successful, was more potentially more dangerous, but it certainly helped to establish the principle of protection by innoculation. And finally - antivaccination is a totally borked notion...
