Are you one of those people who think bad things constantly happen to them? A car splashed you with a puddle on your way to work? Your hand got stuck in that jar when you were cleaning it? Your cat got mad at you for some reason and left you a 'surprise' under the bedsheets? Bad luck!

Well, check out these poor animals, and you'll probably see that they might be having a way worse day than you. Just like us humans, our furry friends – dogs, cats, squirrels, and even lizards – can get themselves into pretty sticky situations. We've scoured the Internet and found you the silliest and most 'aww'-inducing pics of animals having a rough day. Let us know which ones you like the best by upvoting them!

Our cat did the same thing to the hamster when my daughter accidentally forgot to close the lid. Just jumped in WITH the hamster and took a nap. Luckily the hamster stayed dug in and hidden cause CatCat has a habit of killing escaped hamsters. For the record, we now have escape proof cage.

Neither of my current cats will climb ladders. My last cat however, horribly abused rescue, we got her at 7, scared of everything but loved ladders. She'd been going blind for a while and I went up in the loft via the loft ladder. About an hour later my wife said "can you hear miaowing?", the poor little cow had climbed up there and I'd shut her in, I felt incredibly guilty and she sulked appropriately. But because she'd been so abused you couldn't pick her up or cuddle her as she'd attack you. I just had to sit down and wait for her to come to me so I could apologise. I miss my little girl.

My cat randomly climbed a ten foot ladder once. He was quite happy and proud... till he had to figure out how to get down. I tried to help but he was in a hurry and went down the hard way. He's also jumped onto the fridge and tried to step down from it to poor results. Hahaha. Hes a 25lb savannah but he learned that day hes not as tall as a fridge.

Animal experts unanimously agree that pets can feel sad and depressed. How do veterinarians diagnose it? Usually, there's a change of behavior that the owner should notice.

Either a change in eating habits or less energy, but not all signs of depression are equal in all pets. For example, if a dog has depression, it might start licking its paws excessively. Cats, on the other hand, might begin ripping their hair out.

Why does a pet become depressed? Just like in humans, hormone changes might influence pet depression. If there's no underlying health issue, it might also be because of change. Whether it's a change of routine, their usual environment, or just people that they're used to.

A change in owners can be even traumatic for a pet. When there's a particularly strong bond between the pet and the owner, they might sense that the person has depression and start feeling depressed themselves.

I keep my cats indoors. I had one that always tried to escape. One time we had a blizzard and he wanted out. So, I threw him into two foot deep snow. He immediately bounded back inside. He stopped trying to get out as much, after that.

If you notice, it's still snowing. Maybe they just haven't had time to shovel yet. Even if it wasn't still snowing, maybe they just woke up to the large snowfall and the poor doggo couldn't wait for shoveling to get his potty time. Best to get details before randomly calling people out like that.

So, how can pet owners help their depressed furry friends? The first step is to get a vet to do a checkup. As mentioned above, depression can sometimes be a sign of a more serious health problem. Ruling out other afflictions allows vets to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

And what's the treatment for pet depression, you ask? Well, it's not that dissimilar to human depression. Exercise and fresh air, for one, are great for depressed pets, too. Exercising will release hormones the pet needs to feel better. If it's a depressed cat, you might want to spend more time with them.

Extra cuddles and playtime applies to dogs as well, especially if the cause of their depression is a new family member, such as a baby. In worst-case scenarios, vets can prescribe medication. Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft are usually the medicines for depressed pets.

That was our cat when he managed to slice his paw open! He had a bandage and cone of shame but he wouldn't do anything with it on, so the vet said to try a sock instead. He'd go out etc but the LOOK! Utter defeat. "Why is this thing on me? WHYYYYY??"

Years back, one of our cats broke his leg and we had to keep him confined so he wouldn't try jumping up anywhere. We got him in a large roofed pen in the kitchen, so he could still see what was going on and remind the others that he was still the boss. Well, the next morning we came down and found the pen empty, except for an unoccupied cast and our cat happily limping up to us to say hi. He had somehow managed to widen the gap above the door to about 10cm then squeeze through it (bearing in mind, he was a big, muscular cat), leaving the cast behind. Needless to say, we had another trip to the vet and thoroughly blocked every potential exit. This time, he stayed put, healed fully and lived to about 20, so all good in the end

A sad pet doesn't always equal a depressed pet. As clearly evidenced from this list, sometimes they're just having a bad day. John Woods, founder of All Things Dog, told Romper that it's important to differentiate when the pet is seriously sad and when they've just had a difficult day.

A sudden loss of appetite is one sign that your pet might be unhappy. And if your pet is starting to eat like crazy, they're also trying to tell you that something's wrong. Basically, what you want to do is watch out if there are any deviations from regular eating patterns. Dog behaviorist Cesar Milan writes on his blog that this could be one of the signs of pet depression as well.

Our indoor cat Rocket, about two months after we got him got out the front widow because he accidently pushed the screen out. He was missing for about 48 hours. My partner at 2 in the morning saw the side light go on and there was Rocket at the front door. He hasn't tried to go back out since.

If your pet seems like they just don't have any energy one day – that could also be a sign they're having a bad day. "The emotional state of depression can drain a canine of their usual enthusiasm and vitality, leading to a noticeable decrease in energy levels and overall sluggishness," Milan writes.

I still cannot believe people do this. When we moved into our house we found a cat locked in our garage. She had a little bit of food in a timer thingy and didn't have any water. We adopted her and named her "Moo" as she was black and white. She was an old cat according to the vet. She lived about 5 years longer with us as a spoiled house cat.

Rollpet adds that disinterest in other pets also qualifies as a possible sign of depression. Sometimes, pets can lose interest in playing with other pets that they've always had fun with. If they start biting or scratching their play partner, that's a sign they don't feel comfortable around them for some reason. Experts advise not to push your pet and give them time to adjust.

It can be hard to read a pet's facial expression as they don't use their facial muscles the way we humans do. However, there are still ways to tell a pet is feeling bad just by observing their body language.

Fingers And Paws Dog Training lists some signs that a dog might be feeling off. And they say it's important not to test their limits and give them some space if they're exhibiting this behavior.

Alarming body language can include rounded and worried-looking eyes. If their ears are angled sideways or back and down, that's also a sign that the dog feels anxious. Their tails can also tell a lot about how they're feeling. It shouldn't be lower than usual, and the wag should be sweeping and loose.

Sometimes, pets might want to make themselves look smaller – that's also one sign of anxiety. Unnatural crouching with a lowered head and rounded back can signal that a pet is worried about something.

Years ago, the woman who rented the upstairs in the two family house I lived in used the garage with a manual garage door. A raccoon somehow got stuck and was dangling from the door, somehow it closed the door, and its foot got stuck. The woman's BF was afraid of the raccoon and got me to free it! (I just opened the door gently freeing the raccoon's foot, and it ran off.) I was never impressed by that BF! Poor thing had been stuck like that for a while, because you could see marks on the door where it was trying to free itself.

Genuine question, why are drains so feckin huge in the USA?

However, try not to jump to conclusions. All these signals by themselves might signify nothing. Context matters – always look at the bigger picture. If the pet isn't eating, wants more quiet time than usual, and avoids eye contact with the owner, that might indicate an anxiety or depression problem. Remember – it's always better to consult with a vet than try to diagnose your furry friend yourself.

If your dog doesn't overeat or isn't on a diet, it's so much easier just to leave their bowl full of dry kibble, and then they can nom whenever they get hungry. I do it for my dogs and cats (cat bowls are up where the dogs can't get it) and they are so chill because of it. No begging when I eat/snack, and I don't have to worry about being home at a certain time every day.

If they were matted to the skin, the groomer had no choice. If you do not comb/brush a dog like that thoroughly, they will turn to tight matts which spread quickly. If they weren't matted, then yeah , you had a lazy groomer.

Too many people cling to the tradition of frightening animals. This year we had to move the horses to a different stable to accomodate the traditionalists insisting to fire Cobra's in the little village, which are actually bombs. Life is boring without the competition for the biggest bang. They spend thousands for this, and force us to pay for a different stable. Just join the military or bomb squad for experiencing major bangs.

My neighbor does too, the kind you can see from 5 miles away, in a high-fire zone in California at the height of fire season. The fire Dept put up a "fireworks are illegal" notice. Many people have told them who it is. They dont care.

Our dog has PTSD because of our neighbor's penchant for illegal fireworks. She has to be medicated. It wasn't bad until we moved and these people think it's great to find them off just any old day or time.

There are special shampoos made for white animals to make them look whiter. The shampoo is usually purple/bluish in color but it rinses out clear. (They make it for human gray hair as well) It's possible this person mixed the hair dye up with the whitening shampoo. I once accidentally left Quicksilver shampoo on my white horse too long and gave her purple stained legs. :)

As a note for rabbit owners, many insect killers can kill rabbits. Always check with your vet before using insect repellent or insect killing products near or on a rabbit. They are extremely sensitive critters.

once I took my dog out into the cascades. Later I flipped him over to pet his stomach and an ARMY of fleas ran toward his legs to hide. I was fighting fleas for months. I had previously lived in a dry desert climate and fleas were unheard of. Learned my lesson!

I have a rescue cat who used to live in a very similar situation. They finally got rid of her, because she was marking the curtains. (Surprise, surprise!) I was slightly apprehensive about taking her on, because sometimes, when they’ve started behaviours like that, they don’t stop, even when you put them in a better environment. Anyways, I decided to give her a chance. It took her a long time to trust me and not be scared anymore (we’re talking several years here) but guess what? Never once marked the curtains at mine, nor displayed any other sort of stress behaviour like that, so I guess I must have done something right.

I appreciate the sentiments about avoiding animal cruelty, but I think hooves are made of the same material as hair / nail. I'm sure it was a little awkward because of poor footing/ uncomfortable but I wouldn't go so far at to think this is downright animal cruelty. It looks like they caught the issue pretty quickly. If they let this go for days and it caused a sore and the owners were negligent, then sure I can understand calling this animal cruelty. Just throwing out another perspective.

I absolutely love them, have never owned one, but I have had large breed dogs in the past.( a lab, and a boxer/pit bull mix). I have spent quite a bit of time with the breed and thanks for showing how sweet and adorable this often misjudged breed can be. 🫶

My Dog Was Slow, Afraid Of The Door, And I Forgot My Hotel Key Card

I stayed at a hotel and was taking one of the dogs out for a potty break. I held the slow-closing exit door open for her. After seeing her following me, I looked forward and let go of the door with plenty of time for her to pass through. My Great Dane is super unaware of her size. The door started closing and she bailed on exiting the building. I feel a tug on the leash and look back, realizing the door is locked, I reach for my key and realize I forgot my access key card.

I had to look this up. It's an operation for "osteochondritis dissecans". This "typically occurs in rapidly growing large breed dogs between 6 and 9 months of age". So thankfully it should not need more operations when it's fully adult.
