Nature is already quite majestic, but did you know, that wombats have almost perfectly cube-shaped poop? Or that kiwis are practically blind and forage mainly by smell? And, believe it or not, axolotls can regrow lost limbs and even grow new ones! Nature is just full of surprises and weird animal facts.

Bored Panda has chosen a few of the more unexpected animal facts, with which you can definitely blow your colleagues' minds. Just be sure to remember at least one of them in the time of need. And if you thought that human life is rather complex, then after checking these illustrations and animal trivia compiled by A. Stiffler and K. Copeland in a series called Nature is Magic, you might just think otherwise.

Don't forget to check their website called ChaosLife for more fun facts about animals!

For anyone who interest why! 'Wombat poo is cubic, not because the wombat has a square-shaped a**s, but because it has a very long and slow digestive process, typically 14 to 18 days, which allows the digestive matter to become extremely dry and compacted. The wombat also has a very long digestive tract, allowing it to absorb the most nutrients and water from its food. The first part of their large intestine contains horizontal ridges that probably mould the poo into cubes, whereas the last part of the large intestine is relatively smooth, allowing the cubic shape to be maintained. The highly compacted nature of the poo means that the r****m is unable to contour the poo into the more usual tubular shape.

Chickens are nurturing birds and show regard to other birds when observed. One day hopefully, chickens may be instead grown by stem cells into the chicken meat product without the factory farming of living animals. That would be progress in both kindness treatment and in pollution reduction as well as in returning animal farmland to better uses.

I dont know where you are getting your facts, but Starlings are SO prolific, it would take concerted efforts and hundreds of years for them to go extinct! Furthermore, they are an "introduced" or "invader" species to the U.S. They were brought here, unfortunately, from Europe and set free by ONE MAN.

I googled it. Really strange creature with bizarre anatomy. The reason why these squids induce fear in someone is probably alien-like resemblance, they are just too different and since they managed to stay hidden deep in ocean no one is used to their appearance. But still, when I watched the video, I saw some kind of elegance in their motion. It must be fascinating to see this in real.

I know this is a really old post, but I needed to put this out there. This one isn’t actually totally true. They burrow into dead whales and other sea life (starting from the softest part, which is usually the a**s) and basically eat their way through it- though they don’t actually have jaws. They can produce disrespectful amounts of slime from their skin, though.

    Sophie Warner

They can also produce a mucous which expands on contact with the surrounding water into roughly 5 gallons (US) of slime when startled! That would certainly put me off startling one twice!

It's called cribbing (or crib biting) involves a horse grasping a solid object such as the stall door or fence rail with its incisor teeth, then arching its neck, and contracting the lower neck muscles to retract the larynx

Yeah, a horse that engages in this has ALWAYS obtained the habit while being "stalled". They begin by seeing other horses do it and it is because of SEVERE BOREDOM and lack of mental stimulation and space to roam and graze. It is sad. (Horse people call this "cribbing".)

I had two horses that were cribbers- they get addicted to it, like smoking. It's a terrible habit- there's a much higher incidence of colic with cribbers- which can be dangerous if not fatal

It could be dangerous because they could inhale something and choke. So most of the time you'd put on a 'cribbing collar'

Leased a horse who was a cribber because he had been previously abused with his first owner off the track. It was sad. He was such an amazing horse would do whatever you asked. Didnt care about anything

We have a horse that does this. Jenny is her name. She only does this after eating grain. She licks the top board of the fence then bites it and then grunts while flexing her neck muscles. She only does this 3 or 4 times and then she is done.

One of the horses in the stable did this alot when it came here, but thankfully after a summer running free in the pasture(huge valley made of woods rivers and fields) he started to stop doing this and is not not doing it at all.

Everybody so grossed out by eating bugs. lobsters crabs shrimp in any other underwater crustacean is by definition a bug. I guess eating bugs is okay if you're spending $15 a pound on them

And I wondered why people eat those crustaceans. I have zero interest. Just like in eating bugs.

Cochineal bugs are dried and ground up to give red coloring to many common products including makeup, candy, and up until a few years ago, that one coffee company's strawberry frappé

It's just funnier way to say that birds can't actually swallow at all (by using muscles), they just scoop some water into their beaks and let it flow down to their throats.

Birds don't actually have a gag reflex. That is why you see birds tilting their heads back to slide the food down their throats. The only bird that has a gag reflex is the pigeon.
