Growing up in a European country and never witnessing what it's like to go to an American school, watching American high school comedies, to me, has always been a pretty surreal experience. I'm sure that most of you fellow non-Americans reading this article could relate to me on this.

There are so many things about American schools that have always seemed utterly fascinating to me. For instance, you get letter grades instead of number ones, schools have swimming pools inside them, there's a club for almost anything, you have to get a hall pass to go to the bathroom during class, and lunch meals are usually pretty bizarre. The list goes on. With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through this list of tweets from non-American Twitter users in which they share things that they find the strangest about American schools. Feel free to explain to us the things we don't understand or add your own in the comment section!

No tv in my schools. Announcements were given over the loud speaker in all classrooms.

We didn't have a TV, just a public address system with speakers in every room so we could hear the morning announcements. In high school we had a DJ club that would play morning music before classes started along with the day's announcements.

Sometimes the faculty does it, but just as often it's someone on student council.

My kids' Canadian elementary school has morning announcements every day. And a prayer, read by a student, because it's Catholic school. They listen to the national anthem and the principal reads off any announcements for the day.

Not the principals unless it’s super important, if it’s the principal it’s probably them announcing a vape was found on campus or something

My school had a CCTV system where the told the days news / activities and what the lunch menu was going to be. It was actually cool to be part of the crew that ran it because we learned a ton about TV broadcasting and how to run the cameras, mics and video tape decks (the old IVC 1" machines!)

Not usually the principal - they're busy doing more important things. 🤗 One of the staff does it. P.S. I was in high school when the announcement came over the p.a. system that JFK had been shot.

Ours use to have students do it but then the new principal took it over and I hated her. She was so nasty and mean. She would say horrible things during the announcements and even call out specific teachers for things. Then she ended it with "Make it a good day or not, the choice is yours." I put in headphones the moment her voice came on. I still hate her. What a terrible person.

Depends on the announcement, if there is a school news program students do it if it's prepped ahead of time, if it's an immediate surprise thing then yes. Also those tvs are a large section of school budgets and why taxpayers disdain public schools.

Not in my day. High school students were assigned "home rooms", where you went at the very start of the day. There, teachers either read announcements, they were hand-outs, or they were posted.

I took broadcast journalism in high school, which means I helped create our daily "news" broadcast, including taking a turn being the anchor. Fantastic way to memorialize my terrible fashion sense and cringeworthy awkwardness forever.

The last time I remember a principal giving announcements was in fifth grade and our school was incredibly poor (we used old projectors and they couldn’t even afford a bench, they had to do a fundraiser to buy one) so she spoke over the intercom. Now they just make the students do it over TV, we still use projectors because my district is pretty poor
