Airplane! is widely considered one of the funniest comedy movies of all time. It's is a fast-paced comic parody of the very popular disaster movies of the 1970s (Airport, The Poseidon Adventure) and the clever jokes are completely and utterly over the top. Poor guy was driven nearly insane by Ted's back-story which is why he was going to set fire to himself... then thinks he is safe because Ted is going to the 'little room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit'. So is he safe???
Holy sh**, i've seen this movie maybe fifty times, but this is the first time i've realised the shelf! Prove that this is the movie with the most jokes per minute!
It's the same with Police Squad. Which is why it got cancelled. People didn't like having to pay attention.

That movie is such a classic!!! And Leslie Nielsen, oh man, the world is a dimmer place for having lost him... I always watch his movies and no matter how often I see them, they always make me laugh!

Wasn't the whole point of this spoof genre that the movies they were spoofing were themselves recycled until they squeaked?

Now I really want to see that movie in my language (we do dubs for movies here as a standard procedure) compaired to the original - you just CAN‘T translate those awesome jokes! :D
You missed the one in the air traffic control tower, where Lloyd Bridges I think, has a piece of paper and asks someone "What can you make out of this?" and that funny guy grabs the paper and says "Oh, I can make a hat, a rosette, a terydactel......." hahahaha!!
I wonder what the process of writing these jokes was like. Do they just pour out of the writer's heads or do they labor over them?

I'm pretty sure most people are unaware of the fact that this was based on the 1957 "disaster" film Zero Hour. Even the lead character's name was Ted Stryker. Mostr of the dialog was in the original Including the lines: :We have to find someone back there who can not only fly a plane, but didn't have fish for dinner tonight." And "I just want to tell you both, good luck, we're all counting on you." I found out one day when I flipping around the channels and Zero Hour was on TCM. I filled in the blanks until the end of the film... I was never more proud.
I think the droning engines instead of jet noise background were from the original film soundtrack.

Does any woman between the age of 16 and 60 in this film make it through without being sexually harassed?
Yes. Neither Elaine nor Randy are harassed. The nun isn't harassed, and the same goes for the mother of the sick girl. Also, the woman who keeps spitting up whole eggs, one of which contains a bird, isn't harassed, and neither is the woman whose inner monologue ("Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home.") is heard sporadically through the movie. Although, if memory serves, she is the one who becomes hysterical, and is smacked around by a line of the other passengers trying to calm her down. Oh, and Mrs. Oveur doesn't get sexually harassed, either. In fact, she harasses Capt. Kramer, running her hands over his chest while he's on the radio to Ted Striker. Mrs. Kramer also isn't harassed, and if you want to ignore the joke, neither is Lt. Hurwitz (Ethel Murman). Does that help?
