Woman Shows What The “Game Of Thrones” Characters Would Look Like According To Book Descriptions Using AI (30 Pics)
When Game of Thrones hit the TV screens back in 2011, it became an instant hit. Soon enough, seemingly the entire world was glued to their screens and obsessed with the immersive world created by the brilliant George RR Martin. Everything just clicked, the cast was perfect, and it was so epic that all of it stuck in the public consciousness. But like with all book adaptations, no matter how good, not all the descriptions were entirely accurate.
But we're not here to judge, we're here to celebrate the awesomeness of the entire GoT franchise. MsBananaAnna, a digital artist and a web model, is here to do just that with her character portrait reconstructions which are based on the original book descriptions, and it's really interesting stuff. There are some characters that weren't even shown in the series. Some descriptions (and AI recreations) resemble the cast, while some of them are surprisingly different. But let's not spoil the fun for you, just scroll on down and enjoy the content!

Daenerys Targaryen
"Age 13-15. Daenerys has the classical Valyrian look; She has violet eyes, pale skin, and long, pale silver-gold hair. Daenerys is slender of frame. Daenerys has been described as fair, and beautiful."
I have seen so many edits, but I’ll never get over how striking the purple Targaryen eyes are
If they could make Maisie wear those crazy "blind" contacts, the show makers should have made Emilia to wear purple ones! This is such an amazing feature, they should have used in the show. But then again - they did a lot of dumb things in the show... :D
I think they did try, but Emilia couldn't wear them for long.
Load More Replies...MsBananaAnna has given Bored Panda an exclusive interview giving insight into the art and the many other franchise-related topics. If you wondered if she's a true fan, there's no question about that: "I'm a huge fan of the books and the earlier seasons of the TV show." And yes, just like many, she thought "The series ending was a dumpster fire!" When asked which house she'd prefer to be in, she answered "Honestly, I would say I would love to be a Stark, though we know what happened to them... if anything, I do NOT want to be part of the Game of Thrones universe considering GRRM's proclivity to kill everyone!"
Jaime Lannister
"31 years, green eyes, curled hair color of beaten gold, handsome, tall."
I agree. and Nikolaj did an awesome job in my opinion.
Load More Replies...You should still be able to see if someone is handsome or not even if ur lesbian
Load More Replies...Brienne Of Tarth
17-20. "Brienne is unfeminine in appearance and is considered unattractive by Westerosi standards. She is tall, muscular, flat-chested, and ungainly, with shoulder-length brittle straw-colored hair and broad, coarse features that are covered in freckles. Brienne's teeth are prominent and crooked. Her mouth is wide, her lips are swollen, and her nose has been broken more than once. She has large, beautiful blue eyes." — From AWOIAF.
Where in the definition of unfeminine did it say ugly?
Load More Replies...The Women in the pic is not Unfeminine or unattractive. This is just typical of hollywood to cast pretty women with some minor imperfection as ugly. Although this is suppose to be a realistic depiction, however it is same thing all over again.
Again, and i said before, we are talking about medieval beauty standards. Let’s judge the description and pictures by the proper context.
Load More Replies...She was described as having cow like hips more than once in the books. This rendition is far more attractive than the book character would have been.
I think the actress who was cast was very appropriate to the character's description.
Really?? I thought the actress was really pretty and didn't get why she was called ugly so often. Yeah she wasn't nearly as feminine as the others, but I she looked gorgeous to me.
Load More Replies...How strange that the author would describe her lips as "swollen", presumably just generally swollen. Unless she'd had some kind of injury or has some disease, they would not be swollen. Did the author just mean she has fuller-than-average lips? If so, to describe them as "swollen" is pretty disgusting.
Saying "we're not here to judge" these AI means what...we can't have a reaction? As others have stated in past posts like this, these AI characters are always Barbie Doll Cute or (to me) a bit over sexualized with 2022 hairstyles and cosmetically pleasing features. Telling your desired outcome of a human's face into an AI bot doesn't mean anything is "created", really. And this character..well, Brienne was awesome in GoT. The Actress who played her, in real life, is a model and very very tall. I get a bit ticked off when characters have to be "ugly" or "feminine and cute". Strong women must be unattractive? Look like a man? But the Princesses and Dragon Mothers are gorgeous, wispy, perfectly coordinated hotties. Strong men are hot. It's just so stereotypical. As in past articles like this with AI faces, the women have perfect lipstick, beautiful eyelash extensions, blended blush, contoured eyeshadow ,GoT was what year? I mean, be honest about things at least.
Though Anna prefers the books, she has her own favorites in the TV series. "I am a huge fan of Tywin Lannister from the TV series but that's because Charles Dance did such an amazing job of capturing how terrifying and intimidating Tywin is." As for the AI portraits, Anna told which one she thought turned out best. "My favorite AI portrait that I rendered was probably Arya Stark. I was happy with how it turned out in terms of making her look like her beautiful Aunt Lyanna, with the typical Stark features, while still looking like a boy with short hair. I think I captured that well."
Arya Stark
"9-12 years old. Has the Stark long face, grey eyes, and brown hair. Greatly resembles Aunt Lyanna according to Bran. Short hair depicted when she cut it to look like a boy. Bullied by Sansa for looking horse faced, but several characters have described her as pretty."
I prefer Massie"'s look for the Arys character, but I'm a bit biased as she was my favorite! Interesting take though, not too far off.
Cast beautifully. It's her courage and cunning that are her most predominant features/personality.
Cersei Lanister
"Cersei is a strikingly beautiful woman, with golden hair, emerald green eyes, fair skin, and a slender, graceful figure." — From AWOIAF.
Artist's note: "Although she is considered by some to be the most beautiful of the seven kingdoms, her age was brought into consideration along with the prophecy that she will be replaced by a younger more beautiful queen.... so I tried to not make her beautiful but not as striking as described."
The Bible intentionally leaves out physical descriptions for its characters because the emphasis is on their moral qualities.
Load More Replies...I mean... or you could have just made her an extremely striking beautiful older woman which would make more sense of someone afraid to be replaced by someone younger, rather than a semi striking younger woman. I mean make her older and yet extremely striking so you can see how when she was younger she was the most beautiful in the kingdom
oh. iiiiiim sorry male artist. 'Although her age was brought into consideration'? you tried not to make her beautiful?' Wow. She is gorgeous, the art is beautiful but the comments are. Anyone who would see this image as "old" is a pedo. Get help. this is so gross.
Her personality is so sketchy and evil that all beauty is completely unrealistic
MsBananaAnna has been featured on Bored Panda before when she made a similar thing but with the Harry Potter franchise, and we highly recommend checking it out. And keep your eyes open, Anna teases another batch of GoT characters sometime soon! "I was thinking of continuing with some more characters. There are just so many in ASOIAF that I would like to see."
Sansa Stark
"Age 11-14. Deep blue eyes, light auburn hair, with the Tully features of high cheekbones. Takes after her mother, but Catelyn believes Sansa will grow to become more beautiful than her. Considered by many characters to be fair-looking, and Tyrion considers her to be as comely as Margaery Tyrell."
I know they used older teens as actors and aged the characters a bit for the show, but really - this one is creepy considering what she went through
To be fair most of her plot in the series did not happen in the books
Load More Replies...Book description is pretty straight on except for the continual sneer on Sophie Turner.
Lyanna Stark
"Deceased at age 16. Was considered to have a 'wild' beauty to her; did not have the same delicate/refined/traditional beauty as Princess Elia. Described as a tomboy, and has typical Stark features of a long face, grey eyes, and brown hair. Slim."
again...nothing "Long" about this face, also? this face is delicate!. where is the person in the decription?
Jon Snow
"Age 14-17. Has the most Stark features of the kids, with dark grey eyes, a long face, and dark brown hair."
Makes sense because Arya looks like Lyanna and Jon is ... you know 😄
Load More Replies...I always thought that John and Aria should have the same hair color, and a different shade than the rest.
I don't understand how he can look so much like a Stark, when he is a Targaryen
It's because whenever new blood (Stark blood) is introduced to the incestuous Targaryen bloodline the kid has a higher chance of looking like the other parent. Jon's half siblings look strongly of their own mother's family (Martells) as well, with his sister looking just like her own mother despite having Targaryen facial features. Ageon himself doesn't like fully Targaryen either because his eyes are known to be a darker purple than other Pure (through incest) Targaryens; his skin is also darker (more normal in color than the almost ivory color of his father's family) as well.
Load More Replies...I believe what is meant is that they don't have rounder, fuller cheeks that many people have, which would give then a round face. The faces I'm seeing are leaner, longer faces. To me, these fit the descriptions.
Load More Replies...Brandon Stark, Brother To Ned Stark
"Deceased at 20. Tall and handsome with grey eyes."
I think this how Jon Snow should look like when he's older than on previous pictures)))
No, Bran was named after his uncle Brandon. Brandon Stark was actually supposed to marry Catelyn but Brandon was killed by the Targaryens and Ned married her instead.
Load More Replies...Joffrey Baratheon
"Age 11-14. Blonde curly hair, green eyes, pouty lips. Considered handsome. Jon thinks he looks like a girl. Probably has a punchable face, but that is just personal bias."
God bless Joffrey actor Jack Gleeson (Famously a sweetheart). He did punchable really well. This image is NOT punchable. At all.
Is he really a sweetheart?? WOW!! What a commitment to his art! That's amazing and so lovely to hear 😊. Did he get a lot of backlash from idiot fans?? I'm very curious now lol.
Load More Replies...Catelyn Stark
Age 33-35. Traditional Tully features and traditional beauty. "Catelyn is beautiful, with fair skin, long auburn hair and blue eyes. She has long fingers and high cheekbones." — From AWOIAF.
She looks about the same age as a few of the thirty somethings I know. It comes down to personal preception and experience.
Load More Replies...Exactly. I was looking to see if someone else thought so too
Load More Replies...They definitely went with a different look in the movies for this character!
All of the characters were older in the series.
Load More Replies...I love how ppl are saying how she doesn't look like her true age. If you're going by the show, then you'd be right. She was about 50ish in the show. In the books however, she was in her early to mid 30s. And was a natural stunning beauty. Having 4 kids isn't going to age you much. It's the stress from raising 4 kids that age a mother. However Cate was a high born Tully and then married Ned Stark, another high born. Wet nurses, and scepters raised high born children. Cate in this AI rendering looks very much early to mid 30s. I am 37 and I get carded every single time I purchase alcohol, yet my 24yr old sister never does. Genes, skin care, stress, diet and exercise, water intake... it all plays a part in ppls ages. In GOT books everyone is way younger than what todays society standards view people to be age wise for certain things. Today an 11-14yr old girl is unheard of and thought of being taboo, if she married and started having children. Not during the time period GOT is based in.
Tyrion Lannister
"24 years, mismatched green/black eyes, thin hair so blonde it's almost white, large jutting forehead, oversized head."
IMO, Peter fit the character to a T. His cute smirks made it all the better!
Peter is far too handsome to be Tyrion ....but I also cannot imagine another actor taking that role. He brought the character to life.
Load More Replies...Looks to me that the artist used 4-5 photos as a base to come up with all the designs.
Totally worth changing it to have the Tyrion as played by Peter Dinklage.
Load More Replies...Arianne Martell
"Arianne is buxom and beautiful, with olive skin, large dark eyes and long, thick black hair that falls in ringlets to the middle of her back. She has full lips, a husky voice." — From AWOIAF (A Wiki Of Ice And Fire).
Thought I was just being a guy and not knowing what ringlets were... 😂 Apparently I do know, they're just not there 💁🏽♂️ lol
Load More Replies...I'm sure the ringlets show up more at formal events when she has her hair done. Her hair in this looks a lot like my sisters before she does her hair, and she always ends up with long full ringlets. I don't understand what people are missing, it's like you're looking past the art, to critique the description with no basis for your opinion. I think the representation, is far better than the casting for the show was.
Jaqen H'ghar
"Young man, considered or noticed by women to be handsome with fine features. Long hair that is white on one side, and red on the other."
If this is a genetic thing, would he possibly have one white eyebrow and the other red, to match his hair?
I don't think any of these images are very true to the descriptions - the AI needs work.
Loras Tyrell
"Age 15-18. Considered by many to be "beautiful" and "extremely handsome". Has big liquid gold eyes and brown lazy curls. Greatly resembles Margaery, according to Cersei (they are siblings)."
Margaery Tyrell
"Age 16-17. Thick, softly curling hair, with large brown eyes. Has a sweet/shy look to her. Considered by Tyrion to be as comely as Sansa Stark. Smooth unblemished skin."
She look mostly pretty, but she had that look of girl... The look when you realise that now she opened her mouth and start annoy you buy trying to made you do what she wants. I don't know is that common to girls with that jaw line?
You know what? I see more of Julia Roberts than Dobby like Rachel mentioned.
Load More Replies...Asha Greyjoy
Early to mid twenties. "Now in her mid-twenties, Asha is lean and long legged, with dark eyes and black hair cut short. Her face is thin, with a big, sharp nose, and wind-chafed skin. On her neck is a faded pink scar. Asha's brother, Theon Greyjoy, believes her hawk-like nose is too big and sharp for her small face, but he feels that her wicked smile makes up for it." — From AWOIAF.
the AI the the op used cant really define perfect features all of the time, and so as a result of that, the ears/face/hair gets malformed and that happens -vin
Load More Replies...that nose is too fleshy. i always imagined her with a very prominent but fairly defined nose.
Shiera Seastar
Deceased. "Renowned as a beauty and seductress, with long Targaryen silver-gold hair, and a heart-shaped face. Although she had two mismatched eyes—one dark blue, the other bright green—it was said that the "defect" only enhanced her beauty." From AWOIAF.
Well that pic, renewed my believe in theory that Tyrion son of Aerys and Joanne....
Ned Stark
35-36. "Typical Stark features of long face, grey eyes, and brown hair. Ned has dark grey eyes that reflect his moods. He has a solemn face and his beard is beginning to grey, making him look older than his age. He is considered to be less handsome and shorter than his brother, Brandon Stark.
Again, this artist has no clue to what a long face should look like.
It's literally an AI, what are you on?
Load More Replies...Actor depiction is not so great; pictured him older, wiser, courageous, honest
Melisandre
"She is considered to be terribly beautiful, with unsettling red eyes and deep burnished copper hair. She has a heart shaped face. She's really old but looks young due to magic."
Yeah it literally says "copper hair" idk why they're so afraid to do actual redheads
Load More Replies...er... def NOT the prettiest on the list. I would place this on the bottom actually so far
Littlefinger
"Age 29-32. Short slender man with sharp features and a small pointed beard. Dark hair with threads of grey, and grey-green eyes. When he laughs or smiles, it does not reach his eyes."
I’m never going to see anyone but Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish.
Ser Jorah Mormont
"Age 46ish. Jorah is a large middle-aged man, swarthy and hairy. He is black-bearded and balding, but still strong and fit. According to Dany: not particularly handsome. Ultimate friend-zoned."
Seeing this and Danys drawing makes it easier to realise how creepy his character is hiting on her all the time
Tell me exactly which episode he tried hitting on her. He loved her alright, but he never tried anything with her, and was nothing but a faithful follower.
Load More Replies...I swear I just saw this face on the FBI's Sexual Offender's website! I Think GOT did a great job of casting him!
Varys
"Age 44-50. Bald, plump, effeminate, with powdered face (I'm assuming that means white powdered face + blush when searching up powdered faces historically?). Eyes are not specified in the book, but he is from Lys, so I assume he has purple eyes."
Tywin Lannister
"Age 58. Tall, slender, broad shouldered with shaved bald head, but keeps whiskers on the side of his face. He has pale green eyes with gold flecks in them."
Great picture. However it is not exactly book description because he hasn't any beard . Here is as he described in books - When his once-thick golden hair had begun to recede, he had commanded his barber to shave his head; Lord Tywin did not believe in half measures. He razored his lip and chin as well, but kept his side-whiskers, two great thickets of wiry golden hair that covered most of his cheeks from ear to jaw. His eyes were a pale green, flecked with gold.
Lysa Arry
"Early 30s. Once beautiful, she has since grown thick and puffy due to many pregnancy issues. Has a small petulant mouth, and though she is younger than Catelyn, she looks older by a decade. Pale blue eyes, thick auburn hair. Her skin has become pale, which she tries to cover up with powder."
These are not pale blue eyes but she looks more like the character than the actress did.
Are you sure they're not a shade of pale blue you are unfamiliar with? They don't look bright blue, dark blue, ir gray blue.
Load More Replies...She used to be beautiful but then she got fat. Just a tiny bit sexist there, George.
Wich is totally normal viven the medieval context the books are set on.
Load More Replies...Ygritte
"Age 19. Large pretty blue grey eyes. Crooked teeth, bright thick and shaggy red hair. Though considered to be beautiful among the wildlings. Jon does not think she is (but considers her smile to be pretty). He notices her eyes are too far apart. She has a short pug nose and a round face."
People of different ages can look much older and much younger than others of the same age group. She actually looks the same age as my 24 yo daughter. You may just be accustomed to people who look far older than their age group.
Load More Replies...Jon's standards are pretty high considering he's a bastard consigned to celibacy. be grateful for what you get, boy!
I don't think bastards are consigned to celibacy.
Load More Replies...Margaery Baratheon
"Age 8-10. Golden hair, emerald eyes, and full lips. Delicate and beautiful."
I was fixing to say, I thought my brain malfunctioned and I wasn't reading it correctly lol
Load More Replies...Syrio Forel
Unknown age. "Bald man with a beak nose."
Podrick
"13-15? Skinny, straight hair, thin neck."
Its a book bases in a medieval Style time . Wtf do u expect?
Load More Replies...Gregor Clegane
"Age 35-36. Gregor Clegane is a gigantic man, arguably the largest man in Westeros (surpassing all of the Baratheon brothers, Hodor and his own brother Sandor), with great arms, an ugly voice like stone breaking, grey eyes, brown hair and large shoulders."
That's only after the Battle of the Blackwater. Prior to that he looks as depicted here. Maybe the artist used first descriptions only.
Load More Replies...These AI generated faces kinda tend to look the same for me. I would've wanted to see Roose Bolton and Sandor Clegane.
These look like characters from a knock off Pixar movie...there is a sameness to all of them.
All of the “beautiful” characters look like sexualized children. This is creepy and weird.
Because that is what GoT is exactly about - raping, murdering and exploiting children - all in the book, black on white, that is exactly how young they were. Sansa was 12 when raped by the Golden Boy.
Load More Replies...If those had been done by a male artist, would the title have been "Man ..."? Just wondering why the gender of the artist is in any way relevant enough for the title, instead of saying "Artist" or even better "Digital artist", which would actually be relevant information.
It's not an artist (at least not doing this) She is a common woman using Artbreeder. So yes, the title would be "Man shows...". I don't know why they wrote "digital artist" in the text when everyone can use that AI.
Load More Replies...They look like yassified versions of the characters I imagined while reading the books
"Ew, so young!" Uh, yuuuh...this is what the writer wrote. Go take it up with him. I mean, of course, they're "young looking". Most of the important characters are literal teenagers. Even in reality, I think The Rock is the only person I've seen a photo of at 16 who looked like he's terminally 28, until about his 35 chronological years on this planet.
I didn't go through the list and comments, so this may have been pointed out, but all of these images are generated from a site called Artbreeder. Anybody can use it. It's free. I'm a writer and use it privately to create visualizations of my characters.
I don't know why I read this - I've never seen GoT so I have no idea how close the actors were anyway!
I think you did a good job. It's funny how the people who like to criticize yet where is their talent? Oh yeah trying to tear other people's work up lol
