While nobody can accurately predict the future, that never stops folks from trying. Making a calculated guess—the more calculated, the better—increases the chances, but there’s still a non-zero chance of it being wrong. But, boy, is it particularly satisfying to hit the bull’s eye with a prediction!
Online, this phenomenon is appropriately called aging like wine. It pertains to posting something about the future and turning out to be right about it. In fact, there’s a whole group dedicated to celebrating this phenomenon called r/agedlikewine.

So, r/agedlikewine is a subreddit that’s all about “things that have stood the test of time”. This includes everything from social media posts to newspaper excerpts to news headlines to videos speculating about stuff.
The subreddit was created at the end of 2018, and as of this listicle, the subreddit has nearly 195,000 members.

Everything that ends up being true in the end—one, two, five, whatever—years later, ends up on this subreddit. And everything that turns out to be false or worse—redonkulously wrong—gets thrown into r/agedlikemilk.
This subreddit is the genetic antithesis of r/agedlikewine. And, it seems, it’s celebrated even more as it’s home to 1.2 million members, despite being created just three months before its wine counterpart.

To give you a taste of what sort of content constitutes as quality wine-grade post, try some of these on for size:
Someone predicted that Netflix will crack down on shared accounts. Someone predicted that Chris Rock will get a handful of Will Smith. Someone predicted that video games will cost $70. That last one was actually from The Simpsons, which is a whole other story when it comes to predictions.

There is a documentary about how the US ended up this way. It's called, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"
The most hilariously notorious example of aging like wine is more or less the entirety of The Simpsons. If you’ve been a fan of the show for long enough, you’ll know just how many things it has managed to predict across its 34 (as of this article) seasons.
It predicted at least two US presidents, The Higgs boson, murder hornets, the horse meat scandal, smart watches, the Capitol riots, and a bunch more. Either that, or someone was taking notes.

Some might argue that The Simpsons predictions are more likely off-hand gags that coincidentally came true, or examples of human nature patterns that were referenced as a joke.
Some of these examples might just be designed to feel like predictions, but in reality rely on people’s confirmation bias rather than what the show’s writers actually meant.

A Couple Years Later And Here We Are, Like A Fine Bourbon
What most upset me was the change in pacing. You went from taking at least a few episodes to get from one kingdom to the next then being able to teleport instantly from one scene to the next. Without direct source material, those guys were lost and pathetic.
at the beginning they had books to work off of, towards the end they had to make s**t up because the books weren't finished yet. Shows the difference good writing can make.
Load More Replies...Ok but is this not a predications that came true thread not a look at the past thread?
Thank you!!! Everyone is so caught up in arguing whether or not GoT was a good show no one seems to be noticing that the tweet starts “one year ago today” this predicts nothing
Load More Replies...I felt this way about How I Met Your Mother. The way they did the actual ending of that show ruined my ever wanting to rewatch any of it again- and it really did have the potential to be a rewatch over and over again show.
I thought the ending was fine. Maybe not perfect, but fine. Of course I watched Lost, so maybe my frame of reference for what bad is has been skewed.
Yeah, after Lost and Twin Peaks, any ending is fine for me lol
Load More Replies...Hated that all the strong female characters ended up crazy and/or blubbering messes.
Not Sansa or Arya. Sansa actually became Queen of the North. But they did Danaryis very dirty.
Load More Replies...After everyone says the last season is so bad, which is why i havent seen it despite GoT was one of my favourite shows. And i don't think there is a chance i will watch the last season.
They filmed cast members as they did a read-through of the final script, discovering their characters' fate. You could tell by their reactions they knew this was going to be a dumpster fire
Load More Replies...Felt this way about Dexter—first show I binged and it was incredible right up to the sappy lame a*s ending with a tear rolling down the poor serial killer’s face
In their defense, the author never finishing the series did leave them in a tight spot. It was sort of inevitable the TV writers would flounder.
They chose to write a show based on a book series from an author famous for taking a long time on the books. They had the author as a resource, though. I've seen plenty of TV and movies that were inspired by a book that ended differently, yet still ended well. There is no defense outside of they took on a project far more ambitious than their ability
Load More Replies...(Divergent spoilers) Like the divergent series *cough* I will k¡ll Veronica Roth like she did to… I’m not telling you because I don’t know if you got past the spoiler warning without reading the book
I have yet to watch S8 - and I binged S1 to S7 within a month after finally caving to the hype (shortly before S8 got released) back in the day. But yeah, this isn't a prediction as much as it is a verdict.
Well what did you expect? They "finished" the series before Martin finished writing the book. Granted, Martin has been working on Winds of Winter for over a decade now.
I've said this elsewhere on this thread. This is absolutely no excuse. I am not a professional writer, and I also don't have access to the last book, but I can EASILY sit here and imagine a FAR superior and more satisfying conclusion. It may have taken 2 or 3 more seasons, but it was easily possible to do it right without source material. Besides, even with the source material, they weren't 100% faithful to it. They could have pulled it off.
Load More Replies...*spoiler* the only part of the last episode I liked was the dragon destroying the throne...
You didn't have to wait until the end. The theme from the beginning was "Winter is Coming!" referring to the dead army heading South to kill civilization. Many episodes devoted to the looming apocalypse. Finally they use poor dead Viserion to break down the wall. All are doomed, right? No...we just needed Aaliyah to sneak up on the Dead King and stab him. After all the hype, problem solved. So disappointing!
The change in pace certainly brought down the quality....but that wasn't the biggest complaint about the last season. So many people were upset that they spent 10 years rooting for Dany....despite the fact that her story was obviously going to end in some approximation of how it ended up.
Same with “Avatar.” Second highest grossing movie ever and has no cultural relevance whatsoever.
RIP GoT -the final season with ur's overly dark set ups ( not being able to see a thing) fast pacing , open ended c**p was a blow to my brain, a pierce in the heart and tears of actual disappointment
George R. R. Martin never finished the book series. Still hasn't. When the broadcast series reached the end of his work, they threw up their hands and said, "lets just wrap it up, real quick like. We have spin offs already half written." So blame Martin. He never wrote the ending because he never came up with the ending. The story and characters became a sage so complex, nuanced, and overwhelming, that even its creator couldn't wrap his head around how it should end. The second rate writers in Hollywood never stood a chance. The book series will in all likelihood *never* be completed. Readers have more right to complain than the couch potatoes.
The show supernatural was like this. If it had just ended it's season 5 like the original intention had been, it would have been remembered as an amazing show. Instead they frankensteined a dead horse into a semblance of life and beat it into another what six seven more seasons of meaningless c**p. If so that's what the cash grab will do for art.
I'm pretty slow to get on the watch-this bandwagon, so Game of Thrones was well on its way before I considered binging it. But then I began reading these end reviews. Whew. Procrastination saved me from this.
I am probably one of the few people on the planet who does not know how GoT ended. Can't get cable so was watching it behind most people as it came out on DVDs at my local library. Was enjoying a pretty good show. Then I'm waiting for the next set of DVDs and everybody started to rage so much about how the ending sucked and they were disappointed that I just never went back to it.
And it skipped a year to film the last season and they still gave us a s****y ending. The writers are absolutely mental and driven by their egos.
I feel that way about "Sherlock". The first three series were so good, and he fourth ruined the whole thing. I can't bring myself to watch it again. OTOH I've watched "Elementary" the whole way through three times.
I am one of the many who couldn't care less that you didn't watch the show.
Load More Replies...No one cares that you didn't watch the show. Don't try to spin it like you didn't do so because you're smarter than everyone. There's no need to try to insult everyone else by lying about your level of intelligence. That fact that you feel compelled to do so makes it clear that the opposite is true.

Collider discussed this, providing the example taken from a Simpsons episode from 1995—the one with Lisa’s wedding. It’s said to have predicted smart watches. However, if we go back 30 years prior, we see wrist communicators being used in the Get Smart comedy series. Same goes with a video telephone featured in Back To The Future Part II from 1989, just 6 years prior.

The whole future prediction kinda sorta ties in with the chemistry of being right. As being right about stuff can be addictive. The reason why we enjoy it is because the brain rewards us for doing that. Hence, some people flat out refuse to accept reality.
Whenever a person argues with someone, the brain floods the body with the good stuff—adrenaline, dopamine, all that jazz—which makes them feel great, dominant, nearly invincible. And the desire to replicate this feeling pushes folks to fight more next time.

Amidst all the discussions of the two extremes—wine and milk, aging in their own way—there’s also another take on it: aging like anything else that’s more appropriate.
There’s a humorous New Yorker Daily Shout titled Things I Am Actually Aging Like, Instead of a Fine Wine, which gives wittily spot-on explanations of what the authors Lana Schwartz and Karl Spurzem age like that I find all too relatable.

Not prophetic. Chicken markets have been breeding new strains of influenza for a century. Bats were the surprise.
In it, they explain that their aging is actually more akin to “that three-dollar wine from Trader Joe’s” as it’s “growing more acidic by the day.” Or “the New York City subway system” as folks should “expect delays on nights and weekends.” Or my personal favorite, aging like “the ocean: salty and containing microscopic bits of plastic.”
