Our Mail Lady Heard Something Crying From A Storm Sewer Drain. I Was Able To Find A Nearby Manhole And Get Down There
Found this little girl Saturday afternoon in the sewer. Completely covered in muck. Cleaned her up and gave her some KMR the first night. She was very timid and afraid. Lightened up Sunday and ate some soft kitten food. Slowly let our cats get acclimated . By Sunday night our big boy Siamese had adopted her. It is the cutest thing ever
I love the look on the Siamese’s face ‘there will be no touching of MY kitten. You touch my kitten, you get my claws’. You have been warned 🙂
What an adorable void kitty and very handsome Siamese cat. Thank you for rescuing this little one.
I've had more than one older male cat become a Mr. Mom to a kitten. So adorable; they are good for each other.
On Sunday, Hospice Told Me That Mom’s Lungs Were Starting To Fill With Fluid, Indicating The Start Of Organ Failure. My Mom Is Likely In Her Final Weeks Of Life
On the way home, my fiancé and I saw a tiny kitten miraculously dodge 4 lanes of speeding cars. We pulled over and got the kitten as fast as we could. Today, she met mom.
Damn onion ninjas with pollen sticks!
Load More Replies...Many years ago my girlfriend (now wife) had to change flat and my mum said she would look after Mo (Mowgli) even though cats thoroughly disliked her......she said. That cat worshipped the ground my mum walked on and visa versa and would drape himself around her neck like a scarf. For the remainder of my mums life, about thirty five years, she took in numerous cats that were looking for homes, until somewhere suitable became available. He changed her life.
Aww, I think this little one is a sweet angel in disguise. I am glad this sweet kitten brought your mom solace and continues to bring you much love.
Honestly it's beautiful how that happened. Now Mom has a little fluffy kitty to help take her mind off any pain she might have.
Yes, Cats are amazing and powerful. It's just to bad more people would realize when they abuse an animal they could look past their anger and not hurt or kill a Cat or dog. All they want is unconditional love‼️ Exactly like children want a family to just show them LOVE ❤️
A bright moment for her final days. Bless you and bless that cute kitten for being so kind.
I Adopted This Senior Corgi From A Couple In Assisted Living Who Could No Longer Care For Him. Say Hello To Binki!

Load More Replies...Bored Panda asked Nina Thompson from the San Diego Humane Society some questions to help guide potential adopters. We wanted to know what is the best way for animal adopters to set themselves up for success. “Before you adopt a pet, consider your own lifestyle and how you want your new family member to fit in. Here are some good criteria to consider before getting a pet: Activity level: Are you active and want a running buddy? Or are you looking for someone to keep you company on the couch? It’s important to balance the pet’s needs with your own.”
“Organization: how much fur can you tolerate on the upholstery, or carpets, or anywhere else? Time management: How much time are you at home? Dogs were bred to be our companions, and often we are their only company. Their happiness is in our hands. We don’t recommend leaving any dog at home alone for more than a half-day. The same goes for cats, but their tolerance is probably a full day. If you can’t bring your pet to work with you, consider using a dog walker or doggie daycare.”

Nina gave some other important criteria to consider, for example, “Space: If you’re considering a dog, will the dog have access to a safe, enclosed outdoor space? Some pets need more space than others. Family dynamics: Do you have children? Are they ready to safely co-exist with a pet? Do you have other pets? Have you considered how they will react to a new pet in the house? Some pets don’t enjoy the company of other animals, but many do. Climate: Do you live in a dry, hot desert or a colder climate where you get snow? Consider the needs of the animal you wish to bring home.”
I Just Adopted This Old Man (15yrs) With A Lot Of Health Issues. His Owner Passed Away And They Were Going To Put Him To Sleep. Welcome Home Buddy!!
Lots of change for him in his old age. But he'll be fine in a moment. :)
Load More Replies...I'm so glad there are no kill shelters in my country. It's illegal here to kill an animal unless it's beyond saving or the pain would be unbearable for the animal. Shelters are full of course, as they are everywhere, but you can't put down a cat or dog just because their owner died.
15 cat years is equivalent to 76 human years. I’d say he deserves his grumpiness. Besides, some of the sweetest cats have resting grump faces.
Thank you for giving this very handsome (albeit grumpy) ol' boy a loving home to live out his twilight years.
Was Told This Little Lady Was Unfriendly To Visitors… Apparently I Am The Chosen One!
Is there anything better than being chosen by a cat? You know most don't like everybody. They'll come to you only if they want to. Makes you feel like a superstar.

We are a work from home family, so she gets her attention and love. Another cat of ours was at a high kill shelter. She was very aloof so about to be killed. She chose our son! She walked over, looked at him, he sat on the bench and she jumped into his lap with a major purr going!

Found This Little Guy On The Road In A Closed Box. Welcome To The Family, Nugget
The a******s who closed this sweet and so little baby in a box and put her in the road deserve the same treatment—-but without the rescue part.

I’ll see the person who boxed up that kitten in hell, don’t worry, Pandas. They will pay soon enough. Just how?
Bestow upon him or her terrible allergies to cats and require them to live in a room made of cat fur with cats of all ages crying outside his window. Or you know, fire. Fire is always good too.
Load More Replies...Kitten is less than 10 days old if the eyes are still closed. Poor baby. 😿
why would someone through out a new born kitten? Thanks for saving its life.
“Finances: Have you considered your budget? For example, keeping a horse and keeping a hamster are very different financial commitments. Commitment: A pet is a lifelong commitment. Are you in it for the long haul? Consider the lifespan of the pet before you adopt. Guinea pigs lives on average five years; Dogs and cats can live 10 to 15 years or more. Make sure you’re ready before starting your pet search.”

Lost My Brand New Kitten For Over An Hour. After Literally Tearing My Room Apart, Found Her Inside My Lamp Passed Out The Whole Time
Every time I’ve brought a kitten home they’ve always gone missing for at least a few hours and we thought they were gone. Nope, they just found the most random place in the house to sleep.
I once tore apart my apartment, because I couldn't find my new kitten only to find him dangling/ hanging (still alive) from the top rack of the dishwasher. His body had slipped through, but his head was keeping him from going all the way through. The weird thing is that I wasn't even looking for him in there; I was taking a break from panicking/ looking- probably just to pray- and I can't recall even now why I opened the dishwasher in the first place. But I did and there he was. After more frantic prayer, I was able to get him loose without hurting his neck. He's good now- an old man of 13, but I'm writing this to let other people know to- yes- look in those weird spots you don't expect them to be in. Afterward, I couldn't even recall opening the dishwasher the first time- the time he must have climbed in- but apparently, I did.
Yep. That's what they do, snickering the whole time while you tear your hair out looking for them.
I Rescued This Blue Eyed Beauty After Her Littermate Had Been Hit. They Were Dumped
I never understand how anyone could dump a living creature. Thank you for rescuing this little one
My neighbors daughter just happened to be driving on the highway when she saw a man in a black Cadillac throw out a box and she stopped to find three beautiful long haired black kittens, about 3 weeks old who had been fed recently. They had no idea what just happened to them. Later that day my neighbor brought them over and I looked after them until the rescue I work with could take them in and they found wonderful homes. Two boys and a girl. Still wonder what that mother cat thought of losing her kittens and what those horrible people did with her. 😿 My neighbor's daughter wasn't able to catch the license plate. But if she hadn't acted quickly that box would have gotten hit by a speeding car.
There's never a just reason to dump an animal. He's so lucky you found him.
We also wanted to hear some good resources that first-time adopters could use to help integrate a pet into their homes. “Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society has authored nine books all intended to be the best pet owner you can be. You can find them here.” She also wanted to give some additional advice to remember. “One in three pets will become lost during their lifetime. As a pet owner, there are important steps you can take to prevent your pet from being lost.”
Rescued A New Kitten.. Pupper Approves
My New Kittens Eclipse And Gelato. They Are 2-3 Months Old. Came Into The Shelter As Strays And Are Almost Fully Recovered From A Bad Case Of Fvr. Just Adopted Them Yesterday After Many Years Of Not Having Cats. They Are Adorable, Affectionate Little Bundles Of Energy
Another great thing about all of these rescue posts is you can see all of the brand new toys and houses folks have gotten their rescues. They are so loved!
They have the same coloring as my 17 year old baby. I call him my peaches and cream lover boy. They're adorable.
This Street Pupper Has Been Living On The Construction Site Of Our House, So We've Adopted Her
It will be a very happy new home. The Karma is positive and the pupper is an angel.
My pit mix (probably lab) is the best! So loving, so smart, such a devil!
And now, whenever someone asks them where they got her, they can say "She came with the house."
“It all starts with the basics: a well-fitting collar with an ID tag. This is essential, even for pets who remain primarily indoors or in fenced yards. Make sure your contact information is always up-to-date, and even if you don’t have tags, writing your phone number in permanent marker directly on a collar can be the difference between a pet going straight back home or entering a shelter!” This is an important tip that many first-time owners won’t even consider until it’s too late.

“Microchipping is another important step to make pets easily identifiable if they’re found by someone else. A tiny chip (the size of a grain of rice) containing a unique identification number is placed under the skin of your pet in a quick and painless procedure. Animal shelters and veterinarians can quickly and easily scan for the microchip. Your contact information will show up, making it easy to identify the lost pet and reunite them with you.”

I Present To You The Best Thing I’ve Ever Pulled Out Of A Dumpster: Zap
I always check each dumpster when leaving recycling. People no doubt think I'm dumpster diving, but I'm looking for dumped animals.
My pupper Obi Juan was found when he cried out as the dumpster was being emptied into the truck! Thank God he was heard and the trash collector stopped! No idea how he got into the dumpster but ecstatic he was found! Best dog EVER !!
We Found This Beauty At The Market. She Was Very Hungry And Covered In Ticks. We Decided To Take Her To Our Family, Had Her Spayed, Treated For Parasites And Now She Is A Very Sweet, Affectionate And Grateful Kitty
Wow! Whiskers that really stand out! She's lovely. And I'm sure very grateful.
“A third piece of protection for a dog is their license, which is not only required by law but gives you additional protection. Microchips and licenses serve as supplemental methods of identification to collars and tags, which — while still critical — can fall off or become lost. They can also help protect your dog from theft, giving you recourse to reclaim them if they are found in someone else’s possession. The San Diego Humane Society provides dog licensing services for pet owners in their jurisdiction, as well as affordable microchipping clinics for dogs, cats, and other pets. These investments can save pet owners both time and money spent on searching for a lost pet or paying reclamation fees — and provide valuable peace of mind.”

New Kitten Definitely Has Preferences As To The Most Comfortable Place To Sleep
Another lovely kitten that likely isn't a rescue or was "adopted", as kitty is a Bengal that was probably purchased for thousands of dollars from a breeder XD oh well.
Not necessarily. A few months ago I saw a 2 year old bengal in a shelter. He was a stray who got hit by a car and had to have his hind leg amputated. There are numerous shelters that cater to specific breeds of animals
Load More Replies...I remember reading a news article a couple weeks ago that a lot of people who bought a Bengal just can't handle how energetic and unruly they can be (because they are in general a lot wilder than your regular house cat). And then the poor cats get dumped in a shelter. Former friends of ours got rid of theirs after 2 weeks and returned him to the breeder, eff them but better for the cat.
When I adopted my little grey girl Tilly at 8 weeks she loved sleeping on my chest like that, or under my chin. She's grown into a huge girl but still wants to sleep on my chest , it's just a little harder at 8kg
A friend found a Bengal kitten in my rural hometown. No one knows how he got there but he was the absolutely sweetest boy.

My Sister Brought This Guy Home
Lots of people don't realize just how many pet rabbits and guinea pigs are abandoned all the time! Rabbits can get much bigger than the tiny buns they start out as, and can live over 10 YEARS! They are just domesticated, just like dogs and cats, but unlike those animals rabbits are NOT hunters, so they have even less of a chance of survival if they are just released into the wild/dumped. Anyone wanting a funny, cute pet that's maybe not as affectionate as a dog, but that can't climb all over their furniture and counters like a cat, should consider a house rabbit!
From Shelter Cat To Couch Potato. Meet Kirsten Who Turned Me Into A Cat Person
Everyone’s a cat person, they just don’t always know it yet. Sometimes it takes the cat that will make you a cat person a while to turn up
Definitely! My bfs best mate always claimed to hate cats but then our cat had a litter and one of the kittens wasn't pre adopted yet when he came over to visit. The tiny guy climbed his pants and then proudly sat on his knee while bfs mate exclaimed "this is my cat, his name is Tobias". And Tobias definitely turned him because he now has 4 cats lol

Update On Eddie, The Feral Cat No That One Wanted, Who Needed Lots Of Space….currently Chilling On My Lap
I used to run a pub and we knew we had feral cats in the garden. She had kittens so we started leaving food out. When the the kittens were old enough, we had the local cat protection folks trap them so we could spay/neuter them. They had to stay indoors for 3 days so I put them in my spare room. When it came to release day, the kittens ran straight for the garden while the mum ran straight for my my sofa and then started demanding food with menaces. TL:DR My good deed was punished

The damn onion cutting ninjas again!!🧅🥷
Load More Replies...Someone dumped a 5-6 week old kitten in our yard (we live on a dead end street, it happens) three years ago. Of course, we rescued and adopted her. She spent the first week wrapped around my neck up in my hair, and I became Mom. After that first week, she wanted to spend time with the older cats and the dog (all deceased now, except the youngest of the older cats). The older cats taught her how to “cat”. Though littleTabitha was old enough to eat kitten food, and was familiar with the litter box, she still had accidents in the house. The reason for that is the same reason we diaper babies. She was too young to have the muscle control to hold it until she was in the box. Once she hit 8 weeks, the accidents stopped, but that was a tough two weeks. Additionally, being abandoned at an age when they’re just starting to be weaned means she’s become an obsessive-compulsive wool and hair sucker and arm licker. She will lick your arm down to the bone if you don’t gently stop her. But for all of that, we have no regrets. She’s a lovely cat, and a little clown who has brought a lot of joy to my husband and I, and especially her cat brother, Jack.
That's how I have my youngest cat. He was about 10-12 weeks old when his mother was hit by a car. I didn't see his mom but neighbors said there was a female cat in the road the same night he appeared in our courtyard crying all night. Took me two weeks of feeding him and talking to him before I got him inside. He'll be 11 next month.
No, no, you did a wonderful think. Don't let the sad part spoil the joy for you.
It will be worth the lost sleep. They will LOVE you for being their new MOM.
AWW, poor dear sweet mother cat 😭😿💔 I am so glad that you were able to rescue these two dear sweet kitties😻😻💖💖

Saw A Sign That Said Free Kittens So Now I Have A Free Kitten
I really don't care how many times I get downvoted on this particular thread but far too many of these "adopted from a shelter/saw an advert for a free kitten" posts are of kittens too young to be adopted. They aren't fully weaned until 8 weeks. Please do your research before taking on a kitten that's small and cute, not all of them are weaned, de-wormed and de-flead. Worm and flea infestations kill kittens with malnutrition and aneamia.
Yeah, but it's better to take the kitten in then leave it outside for possibly a few days to find it dead, it's better to take it in and do research than leave it out, do research and then take it in (btw I don't think anyone's gonna downvote your comment, maybe mine tho)

Saved These Little Dudes From Euthanasia Today!
Unfortunately not every shelter has the capacity, staff, or the funding to rescue young kittens, who sometimes need intensive, round-the-clock care such as bottle-feeding. If fosterers cannot be found in time, it is more merciful to euthanize the kittens rather than have them die slowly of illness (which could spread easily to vulnerable kittens in a shelter environment) or dehydration. It's horrible, and I wish that we never had to euthanize another kitten, but the reality is that there are too many kittens being born and not enough shelters, rescues, and fosterers :(

The best sense I can make bout it is: Lost, found by OP, who relied to find the owners, and then saw an ad for her, probably either an old ad to sell her, or a lost dog ad (like they wanted their merchandise back to sell), decided to adopt him and let the owners know.

Meet My Newly Adopted Senior Cat, Chef!
God I hope not! You really do NOT want to hear a cat cuss a blue streak. It will strike fear all the way down your spine (have heard enough cat fights to the death, and had to separate my cats (in the past, when I used to let them outside, before I knew better) from the mutual death grips.

We've Adopted Our Second Cat And She's Been Hiding For Over 8 Hours Now
sit next to him where he can see you, back turned away partially so he has an escape route...talk to him in a nice voice and place your hand laying down in front of him and hang out there for 5-10 mins on and off, he will come out of his shell - may take few weeks depending how scared he is

Can Someone Tell Me What Bread Is She? She's Been Wondering Around And I Took Her Home And Adopted Her
PSA: most cats aren't a specific "breed". Unless you have provable pedigree papers, your cat is a Domestic Shorthair (or Mediumhair, or Longhair.) Cat breeds don't work the way dog breeds do. Unless you have a pedigree, your cat is a moggy. If your cat had one parent that was a purebred Bengal and the other parent was a purebred Persian, your cat is a moggy. It is not a "half Bengal". It is not a "Pergal" or a "Bensian". I know we all want our cats to be "extra special" by being a certain breed/crossbreed, but that's just not how cat breeds work. XD Cute as this kitten is, she's a Domestic Shorthair and that's that.
My New Boy Simba
So... this article is ostensibly about animals who were ADOPTED, ostensibly from shelters or rescues, and BP just inserts a purebred British Shorthair kitten from a Reddit user who appears to be a British Shorthair breeder. Who sells their purebred kittens. Not a rescue nor a shelter. Got it. XD
This kitten looks like the feline version of a Shiba Inu and I LOVE IT!
Meet Sweet Pea. Adopted her from shelter in Illinois last weekend. She originally came from a hoarding situation before her foster took care of her. I love her so much! Sweet-Pea-...13e69b.jpg
I really hate when I reach the end of these posts....want them to keep going and going!
Please remember that many of us dog owners do not live in homes with yards. I was turned down years ago by a rescue group because I live in a condo. I had a dog walking business, and the dog I eventually adopted had more "walkies" time than dogs who have back yards.
My cat Sykes is 19 now but my parents got her when she was about 3. Was called ‘little one-eye’ in the shelter, when my parents came in she wouldn’t stop miaowing until they took her. We don’t know how she lost her eye. She’s now old and deaf and incontinent but we love her to bits!
