Some of these bills reached tens-of-thousands and even hundreds-of-thousands of bills. I’ll be honest with you, when I saw them I genuinely thought I was either seeing things or that somebody accidentally added a couple of extra zeroes.

Is anything in that country for free? Can you breath for free? Or... maybe you went for the stitches removal to an all inclusive 5stars resort?

If people have an word to say in that country, they have to change sòmething. It's very wrong. How it came to this situation I cannot imagine. The life itself has the rating below money.

The harsh reality is that healthcare is incredibly expensive in the United States, and plenty of people always wonder: “Why?” Investopedia explains that healthcare in the US is “about twice as expensive as it is in any other developed country.” However, despite the cost, the US healthcare system is only the 37th in quality, according to the World Health Organization.

How is it that a human life obviously has no value in this nation? How can America ever be "great" again, as long as this madness continues?

Harvard economist David Cutler told Investopedia that the main reason why US healthcare costs are sky-high is this: “The administrative costs of running our healthcare system are astronomical. About one-quarter of healthcare cost is associated with administration, which is far higher than in any other country.”

What’s more, the cost of medical drugs in the United States is far higher than in other developed countries. Meanwhile, American doctors are afraid of litigation, so they practice what’s called ‘defensive medicine’ — they order lots of different tests even when they know what the diagnosis is.

Fight all bills. They know some people will just give up. I fought & they paid it. It may not work 100% of the time, but something like this definitely. Also, take the complaint to Facebook.

Aren"t the ER acțions/operation free of change? Or ER is considered as privat hospitals? You are not paying taxes in that country, to have state hospitals? Just wondering... anyway, strange medical system.

The ambulances in the US are insane. I have flat out refused to get into one when necessary because I couldn't afford the bill. Asked my friend to take me to the hospital from the Urgent Care instead of the ambulance they had "called" for me. Luckily, she is no stranger to the US Healthcare Mafia.

Pharmaceuticals are big business and could care less if your life is at risk because you cannot afford medications. Cost very little to make these treatments compared to the bill you get. They justify this on the bases of "research". This is another vile industry just like insurance. No compassion

My wife had endometriosis. Her doctor worked with our insurance to make certain the procedure was covered. We called ourselves early on, and just before going under the knife and was assured we had coverage. We started getting bills in the mail from the doctor asking for the full costs of procedure. We contacted the insurance company and they informed us that there is a process of sending a formal letter with a specific question, and they would answer within so many business days. Their first several replies were 'coverage exhausted' without much else. Every month another letter came asking for payment in full, and every month we got the same short answer from the insurance company. Eventually we learned the policy I was paying into for my family at a steep price every check had an annual total inpatient coverage of $1,500. That's fifteen hundred dollars; which was nowhere near the total cost. The company I worked for was owned by my insurance company.

This, above all else, should be illegal. A lot of people are getting hit with this scam. Unless you ask the doctor at the hospital specifically if your insurance covers them, you could be hit with a bankrupting bill.

In Canada there is no in or out of network. We get work done by whomever is there and still pay nothing but a little tax.

Starting to think the insurance carriers deliberately put people into out-of-network services to minimize their own liability. This is reasonable to assume because many hospitals are now owned (or partially controlled) by insurance corporations.

My insurance covered one guy who was on call outside his actual shifts (the first time I met him he did my epidural for my son, not a very memorable guy at the time but it was 8am so not bad) Fast forward almost a year later when I had to get my appendix removed. It was 1am when I went to the hospital with horrible stomach pains, I couldn't even walk, they wisk me away to emergency surgery (a mom with less then a 1 year old, who is working fulltime and in college fulltime) on a Monday night. They called him in, like woke him up at home to come put me to sleep at 2am. He was so rude because he just woke up, and I was already scared. He made ME feel bad before surgery I didnt ask for lol. That poor guy, atleast the hospital is decent enough to make sure i wasn't going to pay out of pocket to save my life. But they can't open more positions up so he didnt have to patient shame me? Clearly hospitals are making good money from us poor Americans.

Oddly enough, fast forward 4 years later when I had my daughter... he was the one to do my epidural for her. Again this was the middle of the day so he was actually a nice guy. But I wish he would of had that same energy when my life was actually on the line. When I was alone and scared shtless in the middle of the night. He apologized to me though, he said he remembered my name and always had felt bad about he treated me that night. But hospitals shouldn't be allowed to do that when it comes to things that are actually needed, outsource beyond what the insurance can pay for, for what? Again clearly they are making alot of money to not have to be such a-holes.

I chose to have some elective surgery and had researched the costs ahead of time. Everything was in-network. After the procedure, I got a bill from a second surgeon. Apparently the first surgeon (in-network) invited a colleague to join him. He was out-of-network and insurance wouldn't cover his bill.

This should be illegal! I can't imagine any other business situation where something like this will be legal. I brought an extra lawyer so he can charge you extra for no reason.... this is a new type of legal arm robbery

In Canada, everyone is "in network", so if you need help, you get it without seeing a bill.

Call your insurance company (I know..) and explain you had no knowledge of it and no way to refuse it, and please resubmit the bill or fight for an exclusion so they will cover it.

you need to contact that anesthesiology company and see if they will take whatever insurance paid, or what your copay/coinsurance/cyd is as payment in full. some of them will accept those amounts instead of the full billed amount.
