35 Times Travelers Were So Stunned By The Place They Visited, They Just Had To Share Pics In This Group
With summer slowly approaching and covid-related restrictions being less strict than in the first stages of the pandemic, many of us are starting about thinking where to spend our next vacation.
A place that helps you to make up your mind is the subreddit r/travel — an online community about exploring the world. Its 6 million members post questions, tips, stories, and just overall good content from everywhere around the globe. But what we're interested in the most are their pictures.
However, since the subreddit is so large, the number of images that appear on it can be a bit too overwhelming to scroll through. So in an effort to save you a little bit of time, we at Bored Panda went through it for you!
You might have to wait to visit some of these destinations for one reason or another, but all of them deserve to be on your bucket list. But the ranking, of course, boils down to personal preference.

I Spent Four Days Camping Out In The Remote Algerian Sahara - Just Me And A Local Guide. I Took A Million Photos But This Was One Of My Favourites. Freezing Cold At Night, But Free Of All Light Pollution The Sky Was Breathtakingly Beautiful
I lived in the north Georgia mountains as a kid. I swear I saw the same cloud every morning in the same area of the sky and now I wonder if it was the Milky Way I was seeing ! I’ll look it up one day :)
Load More Replies...It's hard to describe what the skies look like in Africa. Even this picture doesn't do it complete justice. So many stars and galaxies are visible that the sky is almost full and there isn't a lot of dark space at all.
Absolutely. When I went in the south of Algeria, at what they call the "doors of Sahara" I was so f*****g shocked when I looked at the sky. This picture does not render it justice you can actually SEE the Milky Way and I was so stunned at first I was like.... what is this huge ass shiny cloud in the muddle of night? Results of he French nuclear bomb testing in the Sahara? Locals told me but they don't even look anymore they're used to it. I really wish I could go back just to stargaze in the Sahara or near it (there's a luxury resort now though so you don't have to camp out if you don't want too) but everything from the plane tickets to the accommodation is super expensive. Food is super tasty and healthy you can taste the difference between our tomatoes and theirs, of the meat and it's affordable to us but idk how locals do....
Load More Replies...That's a stunning photo - perfectly framed and fabulous colours! There is nothing quite as gorgeous as a desert sunset/sunrise - I had a few of those when camping in Saudi Arabia a couple of decades ago.
It's frustrating living in the city with all the light pollution and street lights that are apparently for safety but we all know it's just a false sense of security. We should all carry flashlights we can shut off at our will and see the milky way. Absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful Ukraine, Road Trip This Summer
I was planning on doing a tour to take in more of Russia and then Ukraine and Poland this year. The money I was going to use for that has gone to assisting Ukrainian refugees.
This is really upsetting, such a beautiful country being destroyed on the whim of an egotistical madman... :(
With a God complex and a lunatic religious advisor telling him so
Load More Replies...Ukraine looks like such a gorgeous country. It is heartbreaking to see all of these sites and its people destroyed in this horrible war.
I've been there. Awesome country. First picture - the tunnel - great view but literaly clouds of moquitoes
We reached out to the people looking after the subreddit, and one of them, Jippiejee, agreed to have a little chat with us about it.
As you can imagine, a community of millions of people requires a fair share of moderation. "We receive a [ton] of spam (not unexpected, of course, since there's a business aspect to the topic of this subreddit: travel agents, hotel booking apps, etc. trying to promote themselves on Reddit), but we employ a lot of automation to proactively avoid these posts becoming visible to our community members," Jippiejee told Bored Panda.
"Our moderators are active participants on the subreddit and living/traveling around the world to give us 24-hour coverage when managing the place. It's generally a very friendly community though, we don't [have] much abuse or other bigotry that contaminate other online communities."
The Most Incredible Border Between Vietnam & China
We visited this place in 2009. Our Vietnamese guide explained that it used to be in Vietnam but China moved the border as they did not like their people crossing the border to visit it.
Not just humans. I've seen many images and read reports of animals stopping to enjoy a good view! It's remarkable

Not As Exotic As Most Destinations Posted Here, But Still Just As Beautiful - Seven Sisters, UK
Beautifully composed photo and the Seven Sisters are stunning from many angles. Makes a great walk.
It is definitely exotic and beautiful from where I am looking at them (Hungary here).
If it's right on the edge I would be concerned that the property may end up over the edge. Those are chalk cliffs which makes them fairly weak anyway but a lot of our coast line, especially the southern Jurassic coast is eroding at an alarming rate. Whole areas of beaches have to be closed all the time as the cliffs above crash down on to people below. Many properties have to be bulldozed or they fall over the edge with the erosion. It's so sad.
Load More Replies...I always think of the 'Battle of Britain' when I see those white cliffs.....
Broadchurch was filmed in West Bay Bridport Dorest. Seven Sisters are in East Sussex. X
Wrong colour of cliff anyway. But similar feel to it.

Had To Vacation In My Home Country This Year. I Am Okay With It. Romsdalen, Norway
Norway is a dream for anyone who adores nature and the great outdoors. I would love to do some backpacking there in the future.
I'm an American with mostly Norwegian heritage. It would be fun to visit the country where the majority of my ancestors come from.
Load More Replies...My sister and her husband live in the lofoten islands, both are photographers and their photos make me want to go so bad
"Had to" and "vacation" don't belong in the same sentence. Such a privileged thing to get vacation, and to be able to travel. Most people in America don't get that.
Remember: staycation is staying at home in your usual residence. Holidaying in your home country is holidaying in your home country. 👍
I should love to go someday! But at my age, I doubt it would be possible.
Without diving deep into data, Jippiejee thinks that Italy and Greece are the top destinations for the older and honeymoon crowds, generating a lot of questions about itineraries and transportation.
For younger folks and budget backpackers, "South East Asia is still king, closely followed by South America with the typical questions about money ('Will $20 per day be enough for Vietnam?')," the moderator explained.

Cat is like: "can we finish with the photos and start with the food already?"
What? I went there with my gay friend and we had so much fun nobody even Looked at him. We visited a few times, no issues in Bodrum, Izmir, Antalia, Pamukkale either people were super nice, open minded and welcoming. You don't have to wear a pride flag as a cap to fly around the country every time you go out so I don't understand this is prejudice without 1st hand knowledge. He even got laid so ...

Colmar, France. In The Litte Venice Neighborhood
Such a cute place. I would rather visit here than actual Venice. Seems like a lesser known gem.

Since my sister moved to France a few years ago I have been treated in going to killer places like this, beautiful.
But if we were to disregard different demographics and take a step back to look at the broader picture, we'd see that in 2017, before the pandemic transformed the tourism industry, France had the biggest number of arrivals (86.9 million), followed by Spain (81.8 million), the US (76.9 million), China (60.7 million), and Italy (58.3 million).
Traditionally, the advanced economies of Europe, the Americas as well as Asia and the Pacific have been the world’s major source markets for international tourism.

A Quintessentially Edinburgh Picture With My 2 Favourite Buildings
Me too, was just here yesterday in the rare Scottish sunshine sitting out on the grass on watching some gulls fight over chips. I need to try and see it from tourists' eye more.
Load More Replies...I grew up near here further West just outside Livingston. when I had hospital appointments (we had to go into Edinburgh instead to see a specialist as St Johns in Livingston didn't have one) I used to go into the Jenners department store just a short stroll from this so my mum could buy buttons and wool. That makes me sound like I was born in the 40s for some reason lol
"Buttons, and wool".... Sorry! Yes it does, even much older! So I'm laughing with you😄! LOL! It even sounded like Oliver Twist☺!
Load More Replies...Where I live in Scotland has a monument to Alexander Fleming - is a tad smaller than this one though. even at night you're incredibly lucky to get a photo like this without a single person in the way! I remember visiting Fushimi Inari pretty much at sunrise in an attempt to be away from the masses of other tourists. I wanted to really be able to appreciate the place. There were still a fair lot of people then, too though! (definitely still worth it though)
Normally a crowded tourist street of little shops on the way down from Kiyomizudera. Amazing to see it empty like this.
It looks like where Memoirs of a Geisha was filmed. I don't think I can look at Kyoto and not think of that movie.
However, emerging economies in Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America have shown fast growth over recent years, largely due to the travelers' rising levels of disposable income.
That being said, Europe still remains the world's largest region for outbound tourism, generating almost half of the world's international arrivals.
Under The Bridge In Slovenia
Looks like a painting or a dream, because I can hardly believe that something so beautiful exists in real life.
It's the Soca river. It actually is naturally turqoise - because of minerals.
Would You Believe Me If I Told You This Was Iraq?
I believe that every part of the world could be beautiful if it weren't for humans waging war or mining resources to exhaustion.
Yeap sure, why not? Baghdad as well was one of the most beautiful cities in the world, before US brought democracy to them.
That's what the media wants us to believe. When I say media, I mean video games, movies and TV shows. Perhaps the news, too, but they're usually showing war zones.
Load More Replies...Absolutely. There is beauty everywhere. You just have to open your eyes and mind, and find it.

Petra Is One Of Those Places Where Photos Really Don’t Do Reality Justice, But This Was One Of My Best Efforts From Today

"The pandemic sent the subreddit into hibernation, with just a handful of posts every day, mostly asking about entry requirements and vaccination documents to travel or return home," Jippiejee added.
"Most of our active users started posting 'memories' of better moments with pictures from previous travels, hoping everything will return to normal soon. [It was] a bit like [an empty city pub] where three drunk guys are reminiscing about the good old days rather than a lively beach bar."

A Lit Up Westminster Abbey In London Tonight
Medieval churches were often brightly painted. So this is what it may have looked like then.
Right. People must have been flashed by the bright colours, paintings, statues and stained glas windows. I also like how churches look today, but they were far from somber and quiet in medieval times. There were so many bans that tell us what people did there from cattle trading to intercourse to snow ball fight. I also have a fond memory of the lighshow on the cathedral of Tours, it was magical.
Load More Replies...As a day to day look I agree, but it's neat that they can do this.

Currently, a small but increasing number of destinations are lifting all of their covid-related travel restrictions, regardless of vaccination status, including some European favorites.
The UK, Ireland, and Hungary all swelled the ranks this month. The Caribbean island Aruba, the Portuguese archipelago Madeira and north-central Asia's Mongolia have also lifted their main covid entry requirements.

Hallstatt, Austria Is Freezing Cold This Time Of Year, But Stunningly Beautiful
Hallstatt really is something else. It is so picturesque that tourists don't understand that is is a real town where people live. They think it is some kind of amusement park and just walk into homes.
They join Iceland, Norway, and Slovenia, which all lifted their covid rules in February.
Other countries are watching closely to measure the success or failure of these bold moves as Omicron continues to spread around the world.

Very true Steve.p They usually do confiscate cameras right at customs. They don't want anyone to take pictures of what the country is really like. It would be a treated as a personal offense against the leader.
Load More Replies...Yes, but read the travel advisories. There is no embassy/consulates for outside countries. You leave all your rights and freedoms behind at the airport. You'll have no right to any privacy. There is little your home country can do to find you and bring you back if you get arrested. There is a lot of seemingly innocent things you can get arrested for. There is no fair trial with due process. It's a huge risk.

Probably because it's a well known tourist destination, with good infrastructure, visited by many famous people sice the 18th. Its popularity has increased in recent years as an instagram bucket list item. Tolkien also visited and the valley became his inspiration for Rivendell. I grew up in a neighbouring valley, which is also beautiful but not as touristy.

Too bad they still don't build towns and cities so magical. Now, everything is so ugly and sterile.
These places are amazing...but not a lot of people can afford to travel to these exotic places. They can still find beauty in simple things closer to their home...a sunrise, a sunset, a monarch butterfly drinking nectar. They are all there, if we look.
I am so hugely privileged to have been to so many places in the world. Travelling has been all I have wanted to do since I was young, and I've spent decades doing it. The world is so beautiful and most of its people are good, kind, and peaceful, but somehow we have allowed greedy and power hungry magnates and politicians to destroy so much of the world's safety and beauty.
