Trends come and go like seasons change, and while some trends today are hated, ridiculed, and shoved into the deepest and darkest corner of history, others manage to win us over and evoke a sense of nostalgia when we come across them once more. There are also those cool things that explode and go huge, spreading across the globe like wildfire and everyone, including your grandma, knows about it. And then they seemingly jump off the planet and disappear into oblivion. No one even remembers they happened.
Since the decade of 2010s, we had quite a handful of fads like that, and despite being either loved or hated, no one seems to remember or talk about them anymore (except maybe for that one kid who refuses to let go of his fidget spinner collection).
Bored Panda has collected a blast from the past - some of the best trends that were huge in the last decade and then suddenly completely died off like a pretty butterfly. But hey, that’s the internet, right? Oh, and don’t forget to tell us about your favorite (or most hated) trend in the comment section!

What Does The Fox Say?
Muahaha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE
Load More Replies...That's nothing. If you want to hear real magic, go to youtube and look up "Language of Love" (also by Ylvis).
I'm gonna go against everybody - I love Ylvis. So much. This song is hardly their best but I still appreciate it because it led me to Stonehenge, Old Friends and (my personal favourite) the Cabin. They make great songs on various ridiculous topics, it's the perfect balance between music and comedy.
They made a TV series about stupid events here in Norwegian history. They are hilarious and almost like musicals😂 you should watch them!
Load More Replies...I was goofing around and getting my Google Home device to make animal sounds. What does a cow say? What does a rabbit say? Totally forgot about this song and asked "What does a fox say?" I was not disappointed....
Farmville
I miss when it was playable. They kept adding new locations like crazy. Last time i played it two yrs ago, there were like 20 locations or so. Impossible to keep track of what is where, let alone loading took AGES.
Load More Replies...I am pretty sure I left off with money in my account and my farm 3/4 of the way complete. I played against three long distance friends and it really kept us in touch. I agree with Mr Chabster I too Miss FarmVille.
Farmville is still available through Facebook. There are about 30 locations/themes that you can play. I think most people, like me, play only one or two. I mostly play my Home farm, and I've stopped doing the timed tasks. I just grow stuff and cultivate trees.
For example, planking, like many other weird things that became trendy, pushed people to take something very simple and make it as unusual as possible. As the trend gained traction, many "plankers" found more and more ridiculous places to place themselves, like in the luggage area of a plane or on top of a McDonald's sign.
People Freaking Out About The End Of The World In 2012 According To The Mayan Calendar
That was nearly 20 years ago... so not this decade
Load More Replies...I am eagerly waiting for what they will come up with for the 20th of February next year! After all, 20/02/2020, or 2020.02.20, or 2/20/2020 (or any other variation of writing dates) is almost as neat as the binary galore of the10th of January in the yesteryear of 1010.
Anyone who understood how the Mayan calendar works just shook their heads and sighed when people claimed it predicted anything at all.
The Cup Song From Pitch Perfect
not only did i forget about it, i had not even heard about it in the first place. double win
Many of the popular trends from the 2010s involved games. With the rise of mobile apps such games like Fruit Ninja and Flappy Bird quickly garnered enormous attention and while those were eventually forgotten, some of the apps still have remaining user bases.
The explosion of Pokemon Go in 2016 resulted in a previously unprecedented phenomenon where millions of people went outside to play the game.
And although the original hype died down, the game is still relatively popular despite the general public's absence of interest.
The Ice Bucket Challenge
While this was for a very good cause, it was kind of like a boost of confidence for all those goddamn stupid internet challenges. When teenagers who did not even care about als started to do it for the Instagram likes is right about when I lost all hope for the younger generations.
I never had hope for the younger generation, so I’m really not disappointed...
Load More Replies...It was for a charity and awareness for ALS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Bucket_Challenge One of the people with ALS was Stephen Hawking
Load More Replies..."Keep Calm And ____" Signs
These are still popping up everywhere. It's really growing a beard...
ugh these signs get wayyyyyyy to old, no one even remembers that it was a campaign to raise the morale of the British public :/
That photo is taken in Barter Books, a huge bookshop in my home town. It's where the original poster was found - folded up inside a book taken in for barter.
The Harlem Shake
I didn’t forget. We have a foster dog that I nicknamed Harlem Shake cuz whenever he wags, he does it with his whole body. I play the music and everything.
This insanity wasn't even the original Harlem shake...the original dance actually took coordination and rhythm
Fruit Ninja
I like the graphics more than the game itself. Now give me a mean game of vintage Tetris and we're in business. 📊
Load More Replies...I just taught my 4 year old- she played for a few mins and now no interest to be a Fruit Ninja!
You can still play it, I just downloaded it after seeing this. :)
Load More Replies...I still constantly play this tho. It shall never be forgotten
The Dress Color Thing
I see blue and black, but cannot remember what other people were seeing?
Woahhh I can finally see the white and gold on the picture to the left!
Yes! My name is Laurel and half the people in my class call me Yanny now because they think it's a funny, original joke... hate to break it to you, but it's not!
Load More Replies...Mustache-Themed Everything
I think that has to do something with "Movember". From wikipedia: Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movember
i dunno about where you live but EVERYTHING had moustaches on around my way at one point. one birthday i got a ton of moustache gifts(I'm a 30ish female)- a bag, moustaches on sticks to take photos with, bloody ice cube tray shaped the cubes like 'tashes- all kinds of old shite. it wasn't just for movember--it was a whole thing & it was awful!! i often think about that bloody ice cube tray & thank god its not in my house anymore. bloody awful, pointless thing :)
Load More Replies...Honestly beards are better than mustaches alone, but beard isn’t fun to say:
Nyan Cat
Isn't that much older than the 2010; or does it only feel that way to me?
It just went away because the creator started to sue everyone using it
Planking
Oh PLANKing....the other thing that ends in anking is very much still popular....
Could do spanking with a plank though....
Load More Replies...Harambe Memes
Rainbow Loom
But it had another surge in popularity after fading for a long time
Load More Replies...as a grown adult i will proudly say i did this as well and still have all my bands
We called them shag bands and if you snapped one it meant you have had sex
Load More Replies...I just got like 20000 of these bands a week ago to make them and have bracelets made of them up and down my arm... I was the bracelet dealer when these were a trend. Now I'm just the person that can't grow up.
well ive always liked looms, theyre fun too make and take the stress and junk off your mind
People Yelling "Yolo" Or "Swag" Every Other Word
Crackled Nail Polish
How can you miss it if you can still do it? Doesnt have to be a trend in order for you to continue doing it. :)
Load More Replies...For second I thought it was chrome..........it was more impressive when I thought it was chrome.
I liked the look of it, tried it and nearly died of being grossed out by the feeling you get when you try to remove the cracked nailpolish. Same for the "denim" style and glittery ones - the feeling when you wipe the remover tissue on your nails is like having a hangnail that is getting caught, just that the whole surface of your nail is the hangnail. Never again!
I know this about this specific color - however, these and a thousand other colors have been around - along with these nails since the mid 70's.
Bought one of those by accident, cursed alot because I thought it was expired or something. Took me a while to realise it was supposed to crack.
Segways
The inventor dies after he fell off a cliff while riding one.
Dean Kamen is still alive. William Heselden was the buyer of the company. He died shortly after buying the company.
Load More Replies...Here in Finland it was illegal to drive on Segway at roads, sidewalks and walking paths so that is why those flopped here. It was legal to ride those at private areas and indoors so some event organizers bought Segways so they could ride inside large event areas.
Making Movie Adaptations Of Young Adult Novels
Lol i just finished reading the first book today for like, the 17th time, and i went to the library and got catching fire and mocking jay. I'm literally holding them rn lol
These needed to stop. I never could get into the movies where adults do nothing and children are the heroes.
Duck Lips
you couldnt find a better example? there were tons and tons and tons
I did this as a joke once for Instagram, I looked like a fish 😂😂 had a good laugh
Silly Bandz
I got these for my 5th birthday or something on top of my Dora The Explorer cake xD. I did not know that these were worn on the wrist
They did have plastic/rubber bracelets in the 80's but not shaped ones.

Nightcore has been around for just as long I think.
Load More Replies...The chipmunks, american version of Pinky and Perky from the 60's and 70's.
Fidget Spinners
Oh wait. I just realised I misconstrued the title of the post. Never mind!
Load More Replies...The title of the article is "forgotten", not "stupid".
Load More Replies...The Mannequin Challenge
Everyone would freeze as someone would go around recording the scene...
Load More Replies...Never heard of it. (Not that I'm the expert in all things at all times. Just joining in with GoodWolf there.)
It’s where you freeze like a mannequin, and people would record you doing it.
Load More Replies...Pokemon Go
Going Out Dressed As Clowns With A Weapon And Scare People
I don’t think anyone actually loved this period...
Load More Replies...Cinnamon Challenge
I imagine some of them chocked to death. Terrible way to die.
Load More Replies...It's one was deadly u can't eat straight cinnamon it coats ur throat and dries so you can't breathe
Ok its a good thing this was forgotten!!!! what idiot ever thought this was a good idea, and to promote other people doing it! It was a serious medical/ health issue!!!!
the challenge is to eat a spoon full of cinnamon power as fast as possible - it's impossible because it's so dry and also dangerous as far as I know, because you can get so much powder into your lungs
Load More Replies...It can also crash your blood sugar if you ingest too much cinnamon at once
Yanny Or Laurel Audio
its where people would hear different things, like someone would hear yanny and someone would hear laurel
Load More Replies...I always heard both, just depended on the volume. I liked the YouTube channel The Film Theorists' explanation of the science. He made it interesting and gave more examples of how crazily our brains work.
Oh right, i forgot this one. i dont remember what i used to hear, but i remember there was a debate

Thankfully these devices were banned in the UK because they tend to explode.
The Bird Box Challenge
People go out and try to do things blindfolded
Load More Replies...I remember that I once read a news article about a woman who did the bird box challenge while driving and got in a huge wreck. Honestly I don't know what she expected.
how could this be a forgotten thing when the movie came out in 2018?!
Never heard of the challenge but the movie was 2-hours wasted, hours I'll never get back
I remember seeing a challenge like that some decades ago. Some taxi drivers were doing this stunt, driving around a block blindfolded.
Kony 2012
It was a documentary that turned into a some sort of movement.

We getting throwbacks already... kinda sad that this decade is almost over
I didn't get a lot of these, and honestly don't feel like I missed much.
How the &*%!# did the Panama Papers get on this list??? Uncovering corruption is not a mindless fad and the legal consequences are very, very real, and continuing. "Twenty-three countries have already recovered at least US$1.2 billion in taxes, heads of government implicated in corruption or tax avoidance have resigned or faced prosecution and there have been investigations in at least 82 countries. Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the centre of the story, has shut down and the Panama Papers have prompted high-level political debates and expedited policy reforms around the world." This from Apr 4, 2019. https://www.transparency.org/news/feature/three_years_after_the_panama_papers_progress_on_horizon
Panama Papers is the sad and sinister part of this list. It shows (as if we didn't know already) that if you're rich/powerful, you can do whatever you want... What should have been a start of a gigantic scandal and criminal investigation now is just something almost everyone forgot...
This is NOT true. That the Panama Papers no longer are frontpage news does NOT mean that nothing gets done. I find this kind of defeatism appalling. At least Google it before you decide that you know the outcome.
