What The Most Popular Websites Would Look Like As Video Game Characters

We all have our favorite websites, places where we can hang out with communities of like-minded people to chat, get the latest news, and learn interesting and exciting new things. Popular websites can become so familiar (despite the sporadic updates that seem incredibly annoying and a bit sad at first, but you get used to them within about 5 minutes), that you get a feel for their intimate characteristics, they become like a dear old friend.

Algerian artist Brahim Bensehoul took this concept and made it a reality, by bringing some of the biggest and most well-known social websites to life through video game and anime characters. Following the popular formula of ‘reimagining’ something well known (think types of soda as cartoon characters, or Disney princesses as a billion different kind of thing, even a potato), video game fan Brahim took the most prominent characteristics of a particular site and created something unique, yet familiar character designs.

From the narcissistic, addictive excesses of Instagram to the terrifyingly shrill and influential chirps of Twitter, Brahim sums up the essence of each platform perfectly well, capturing the feel of each website from both positive and negative perspectives in his cool drawings.

“At first I saw @sillvi_illustrations on IG doing a few car brands as cartoon characters, so I got my idea,” Brahim told Bored Panda. “I wanted to make each character unique and different, but when I started on Twitter I realized that I can put a horror/creepy touch to the art to convey some messages about these websites.”

“I might do a part 2 in the future since the response I got to these cartoon drawings was very positive and much bigger than I expected. But for now, I’ll focus on paid work and my exams coming up. If you follow me on social media you’ll get updates for the next project, I only have a small idea for it and I don’t want to spoil it!”

Brahim, 28, is a freelance concept artist, and he is currently doing his bachelor in art, a degree which is needed for him to get a visa to work in a video game studio. “That’s the goal for now!” he tells us. “I’m playing a lot of Apex Legends currently, I also love Dark Souls, God of War, Hellblade, Witcher 3…”

Hailing from the central part of Algeria, on the edge of the Sahara, Brahim says there is some way to go before there is a thriving art scene is his country. “The art scene in Algeria is poor and mostly traditional,” he says. “The only job you can get as an artist is as an art teacher.”

“I only know four Algerian digital artists, through Facebook since they live in different parts of Algeria. But I think the digital art community is slowly getting bigger because of a new generation of kids that were introduced to the internet and video games early.”

What do you think about the work of this North African photoshop magician? Are there hidden meanings and messages within them? “I prefer to leave it to the viewer to find the details and the story behind them,” Brahim says.

This is actually really cool. The "artist reimagined" concept was getting tiresome, but these drawings are actually insanely good at capturing all the social medias, as well as adding a lot of entertainment value!

I'm surprised they actually included Duolingo. As a person who actually uses it though, I was imagining Duo more terrifying actually. If you use the site you'll understand.
