Here at Bored Panda, we love to share some absurd stories and nothing is quite as ridiculous as choosing beggars who take no issue with asking for handouts - but only on their own inconsiderate terms.
The following list is a collection of posts from the internet of the best of the worst of these cheapskate types. From haggling over price points to roasting their loved ones for thoughtful gifts scroll down to check out these ridiculously rude people and don't forget to upvote your favs!

A Brilliant Way To Deal With "Influencers"
That's how you find the true influencers vs the scammers and s**t heads
It's a good trait to be generous - but it's also good to know when you're being taken advantage of. Not everyone has the skills to say "no" to moochers, users, and choosy beggars, so Bored Panda has collected some various tips. First, it is important to communicate the boundaries or conditions around what you are giving to them.

This Groomer Is Definitely Prepared For All The Choosing Beggars
If you want to help, haggle or handout - go for it- but also know that it is ok to say "no"! Some people take generosity to mean that you can be pushed to give more and more. If someone has assumed that your niceness means that you won't say no, respectfully remind them of your limits. In some cases, people won't want to continue to have transactions after you turn them down, and that's ok.

Don't let yourself be consumed by guilt - set your boundaries and stick to them. Just because you can be accommodating doesn't mean you should. Most of us are taught it is a social norm to share what we have with those less fortunate, but giving back doesn't mean sacrificing your worth. Sure you can afford to cut a little off a price, but you are not responsible for other people's financial burdens. Remember if you give an inch to someone who is trying to take advantage they will want more.
Choosing Beggar
Two years ago I saw that guy with the gas can begging for money. Tried to give him four dollars, but he said he doesn’t take anything less than five. After that I saw him there everyday for months. Turns out he’s a fraud with a new Jeep and a nice house. Been following him with this sign since.
I remember a guy who approached me asking for money to buy a bus ticket. I didn’t have any money on me but I did have a spare bus ticket. I offered him the ticket and he just rolled his eyes, said no, pffft and walked off.
There are quite a few users of various substances in the city center and I am often asked for some change so they can buy something to eat. Sometimes I do offer to buy them something to eat and at least nine times out of ten they insist on getting the money, except for this one guy recently who claimed he was hungry and asked for a piece of pastry. No, he was not interested in a loaf of bread. What had he been smoking? However, one old man almost started to cry when I got an extra portion for him from the takeaway. Some are for real.
Load More Replies...There was a guy like this near the town I lived in. He would shuffle walk from the corner, up the sidewalk next to the cars saying how he was "mobility challenged and unable to work." A few weeks later, I saw him walking like he had a purpose over a bridge on his way to his usual begging spot. I pointed this out to a local police officer and told him where the guy had come from. A few days later..I didn't see him on the corner. He hasn't returned since.
On a freezing Christmas Eve, with a friend, saw a beggar. We went inside, bought him a sandwich and a hot cocoa. Had him walk to my car, where I pulled a blanket and a coat (I'm lazy sometimes and things sit in the trunk until I get around to it) out of my trunk for him. Most moving grown-man tears ever. He was legit. Most aren't. I always say "I have no cash on me, sorry." If a homeless person gladly accepts my to-go box as I head to the car, then I I know I helped someone. Otherwise, I've seen beggars who are known for faking it instead of getting a job.
A guy stopped me walking to work, said he ran out of petrol asked for money, genuinely didn't have cash on me, he then asked if I had a card and would go to cash point with him and withdraw money for him... Not going to lie, it scared the s**t out of me. People can be a******s.
While at work I noticed a young woman with her 3 or4 yr old daughter begging for money. I went to the store and bought them a sandwich, fruit and a container of milk ( more for the child than the women). When I approached with the lunch the little girls face lit up while the mother gave me the dirtiest look, took the food and hid it in the paper bag she had. I saw the women with the child for the next 3 days. When I told a cop about her she said she already knew about them and that they are actually well off, with a nice apartment. Seems her husband and her do this for a living and do quite well making over a hundred a day between them. That really pissed me off knowing how this child is growing up, and how she'll probably turn out. I'll never forget that child's face lighting up when she saw the food....
Spread the word, maybe sign guy will come stand near that miserable woman.
Load More Replies...Real beggars aren't choosers - they will take whatever you offer them because THEY NEED IT. Several years ago I was on a road trip with some friends. We had brought some sandwiches and cookies with us to nom. When we were almost at our destination, we saw a roadside panhandler. Something about him gave an aura of sincere need, so we offered our uneaten sandwiches and cookies. He gladly accepted - meaning that he did need them! Instead of giving to roadside beggars, donate to a reputable charity that helps the poor, or volunteer at a food bank. Or both.
Sadly, you're even have to be careful with the charities. Often only a very small percentage of funds actually gets spent on those in need. The rest goes to "administrative costs "
Load More Replies...I was once approached by a man in front of a pizza joint asking for money saying,he was hungry. It was payday and I was feeling generous, so I offered to buy him a slice of pizza and a coke (was going to add a cookie but didn't say that) since I didn't have any cash and only card on me. He asked me if I could get cash so he could buy Chinese food instead. My good mood soured a bit and I just gave a firm "No" and walked away.
Uhhhggg so many times this happened to my husband and myself
Load More Replies...I am infuriated with a beggar near the house. First and foremost, he has a cane he and pretends to walk with a limp. I have seen him run across the street (to avoid traffic) and seen him walk in the neighborhood- with no cane nor limp. Secondly, he will come up to your window and actually start yelling if you don't give him anything. Thankfully, he know who I am and avoids me like the plague.
I tried to give a guy outside a restaurant begging for money for food my leftovers. and he said he was allergic to fries
I dont think the lady in my incident was a fraud however super rude. She asked me for a cigarette when i walked in to the liquor store and i walked back to my car and gave her one. Then when i came back out she asked me for another one, because I told her i didnt have another to give she called me the N-word and other not so nice names. There has been a few times me not giving someone money or cigarettes have come with rude reactions and now I dont bat an eye about not giving them anything.
I offer to put $5 into a car gas tank if they can drive/push their car to the pump. In all the years I have offered this, I've only paid for gas once . . .
I walked out of a store one day to hear this wonderful music being played live right out in the parking lot. It was a hispanic father and his son trying to raise money for gas to get them to their home which was 3 hours away by car. I pulled up and offered to fill his tank. The son translated the message to his father and you just saw a wave of gratefulness come over the father's face. "Gracias! Gracias!" He followed me to the gas station, and while he filled up, I had his son pick out some "munchies" for the road because, hey..you can't have a proper road trip without munchies. The man tried to ask for an address where he could send me repayment. I told him to keep playing his music and to just pay it forward one day. I smiled all the way home.
Load More Replies...I guess the guy with the sign doesnt have a job then unless he makes money out the people his warning about the guy with a gas tank
I get that he's being dumb by doing this but I felt the need to point out that not everyone who is poor "looks poor". Not all poor people wear ripped old clothes and look like they've been sleeping in an alleyway. Many poor people live in a normal house, have normal clothes, and a normal car.
My sister watched a "homeless" guy in a wheel chair begging for money. When she came out of the store a little while later, there had been a staffing change. Now a lady was sitting in same wheel chair begging for money. Apparently the first guy walked away when lady came walking up to do her shift on the corner.
Don't ever give money to homeless. If you want to offer something keep non perishable food and drink and offer that. Of they are actually in need, they'll gratefully accept it. If not, they are frauds or looking for beer or drug money.
I offered a homeless guy (who asked me for money) the peanut M&M's I just bought. He told me no, he was watching his sugars.
Load More Replies...A homeless guy asked me for money because he was "hungry" so I gave him some money. Then I watched as he crossed the street, went into a liquor store and bought some beer.
I don't know why your wasting your time doing that. It's not going to do you any good. It may help not getting him money, but it would waste my life and precious time I have!
Thank you that's what my first thought was if that sign guy had a job.
Load More Replies...4 times a woman approached me...once at a gas station --> "I need $$$ for gas cuz my mom is in the hospital." Second time (at a street fair) "My daughter is in the hospital and I need $$$ to take a bus." Third time (all the rest at the same street fair but once/week) "My son is having surgery and I need $$$ to take him to the hospital." FOURTH TIME Before she could spit it out, I said, "So....which relative is in the HOSPITAL this week?" She shot me a hateful look, but never bothered me again!
Yeah, brother! Way to go! I was shocked at how many people out there asking for help are really just scamming. However, I still try to help those in need when I can. I knew of a guy in my area, not a scammer, but would always try and get some change from ya. It was what he asked for that always got me and my friends. It was always an off the wall amount. Hey dude, spare 22 cents? or you got 18 cents? He'd be there all day so it wasn't like he was trying to gather that last 18 cents. I think it was a way of loosening peoples pocketbooks with tiny amounts that seem trivial, but they all add up.
A few days ago during my lunch break (1pm) I was sitting in the park and there was a group of chavs/druggies who often beg for money and they have a small dog with them. One of the girls said "a man gave me a fiver (£5) for the dog (to buy it food for a few days, not to buy the dog).. Do you want me to go get some beers with it?"
I had just had lunch, I work downtown, and had half my sandwich in a togo box as I could not eat it all. Walk passed people that are homeless, or just beggars. and he said "boy am I hungry" I offered him the to go box, and he said "Naw, but I will take a couple of bucks for a sandwich" Just shook my head and walked on....
We have a guy in town dresses in a suit and is called Karl. He always says he ran out of gas and needs to get to *next town over* or once in a while switches it up and says that he needs some money for food. this weekend my son and I stopped to get an Ice cream and I saw Karl waiting by one of the outdoor tables and watched a man parked next to me had Karl several bills one of which was at least a $5. As soon as hte guy left and I got out of my car Karl asked for some money to get something to eat... I said nope sorry I don't carry cash...he's been pulling this for 14 years.
I will offer food to them or their family if they come into where I work. Only one has taken me up on it. Everyone else just wants money. Nope sorry.
I never help these people unless I can clearly see that they're disabled. I f*****g hate when I see young healthy looking people begging for money.
See wheelchair guy in comment above. They seem to know all the tricks to get your hard-earned money.
Load More Replies...I see a girl crying about being homeless on the steps outside our local art gallery every day. Tourist give her money and then I see her in the afternoon going to the drug dealers near my home and then to her lovely home paid for by the council.
There is a panhandling operating near my house. A man in a green coat, jeans and brown boots stands on the median at a stop light with a cup and a cardboard sign trying to get people to open their car windows. Three times I have been waiting at this intersection and have seen the man trade off with another man wearing the exact same outfit. There are at least 3 of them taking turns trying to scam people.
I can't stand the fakers but when you do help out someone who is legitimately in need it does feel good. I once "adopted" a homeless man in my area. His name is Bruce, everyone in the town knows him. He's been on the streets for over 20 years. Yes, he is an alcoholic. He used to recite poetry for beer, but he is always grateful for anything you are able to give him. One year I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said pants. Because unfortunately he often soils his. (Sad but true) I got him some warm sweat pants and a blanket. The next year I got him a gift card to a fast food restaurant so I knew it would go to food. I don't think he remembers me but at least knowing he really needs it makes it worth it.
Had one with a disabled vet sign. I am a veteran, and I offered him a ride to the veterans home where he could get a place to stay, hot food, and medical. He laughed in my face and said "you have to have actually served to get that help, I just want the money." (maybe not exactly that, but essentially the same thing. I still see him on that corner...
Have had guys come up to me in train stations that were begging for money. When I tell them I have no change they either just walk away, muttering about me being a b***h or some ask me to go to the ATM.
Perhaps he has earned the money. If they stand on the side of the road day after day and hour after hour they put in plenty of time and effort but have not one iota of shame or embarrassment for choosing to beg when th3y could just find a job that actually contribute s back to society as a whole.
I do try to help people when I have extra cash. There's really only been once it didn't go well. My wife and I were on our honeymoon. We were in downtown Memphis. Whatever the famous street is there. I forget what it's called. Anyway, a guy approached us talking about various life problems. I think one was loosing an eye or something. I offered him dollar. He had the nerve to say something along the lines of "That's not enough. It won't even buy me a drink." I almost asked for that dollar back if he was going to be unappreciative. I just said that's all I could afford and walked away.
Basically why I stopped carrying cash. I can honestly say that I don't have any. And - SPARE change? Yeah, because I've got so f*****g much of it I have some to "spare".
My husbands' sister and her spouse were drug addicts and did stuff like this. They also asked for a place to stay after my husband returned from military service (he didn't know about their drug habits) and offered a temporary stay at his apartment. When he went to work, they took everything he had that they thought valuable and sold it to a p**n shop. They stripped him of almost everything and left him there, owing money to the apartment complex for missing items and repair, along with getting evicted. His sister even got his mother to call me and ask for money for their children. I said no, she yelled at me and hung up (his mom was an alcoholic and drug addict when he young).
I will buy dog food, sandwiches, drinks, but I will not give cash to people who are asking. Ask me how many times I have been turned down. A lot.
It's been a long time since anyone has asked me for money but I usually gave something if I could afford it. Usually I'd give to a woman before a man, but I mostly quit when I discovered how crooked some of these people are. Help is out there and I've pointed out help available to many people. Unfortunately that's not what they want. They need money for liquor or drugs.
There's a guy that stands at the end of my exit ramp with his little cardboard "homeless" sign. Strange he's wearing different, clean clothes every day.
Load More Replies...We had a gut at gas station ask for money, said he was traveling back from Tennessee to Ohio from a funeral. Said he was out of money and gas, my boyfriend's father looked at him and said if you can provide me one of those pamphlets that you get at funerals, I will fill your whole tank us. He couldn't provide it......
This Guy Gets It
I've had the pleasure of such an experience. A colleague of mine, who was in the marketing department (she was just playing Candy Crush all day long most of the times) came to me with a purely illogical and physically impossible request, for a packaging. I politely tried to explain her using her very limited technological knowledge and abilities, that it cannot be done, why it cannot be done, and that I'm not gonna waste my time doing that. I also offered her alternative solutions. Her reaction: "OK!!! Then I'LL DO IT!! It can't be that hard." I gave her my seat, took a step back and enjoyed the rest of the show. She sits on my chair, adjusts it for a minute, stares at the Illustrator window for 10 seconds and says "OK, now TELL me what to do next!!!" I burst into laugh and invited her out of my office before she deletes something important.
Lastly, don't feel bad when you shame a freeloader. We should always treat others with respect but in some cases, you need to be extra firm. "A freeloader really cares nothing for your needs and thoughts, even if they convince you that they do. They also rarely care for normal social etiquette."

The expression 'Beggars can't be choosers'? first recorded into print in 1546, when it appeared in a book of proverbs compiled by John Heywood. The first form was written as 'Folk say alway, beggars should be no choosers.' Another similar proverb from a different angle is, 'If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride,' which is more rarely used.

Why do people ever think that it's ok, ever, to shame anyone in public, on social medias? Not even stranger, let alone spouse, child or friend. If someone would do that to me, we wouldn't be friends or in touch anymore. If you don't like something about me, talk to me, don't try to shame me online in front of everyone. So rude and disrespectful!

I have a tip for those with little to no income who want to read books: GET A LIBRARY CARD. If your library doesn't have books from a particular author you like, you can message them to suggest they acquire books from that author, they often take suggestions into account when purchasing new books. Don't read pirated books if you can't afford to buy new ones.

People need to learn the phrase "go f**k yourself, no one else will" as a response to scammers and free-seekers

Load More Replies...Honestly, I have to think that at least some of this insane behaviour stems from the whole (rather toxic) 'the customer is always right' culture going on. People get it in their heads that they're entitled to anything if they demand it. It's ridiculous, and it needs to stop, because it creates idiots like these.
We can blame these all on the "participation trophy" trend, i.e. everybody deserves something whether they work for it or not.
Alot of the above is just dealing with scammers in retail situations. Most don't actually apply to a homeless person begging on the street, and it's dangerous to allow the implication to remain. If a person has, for whatever reason, reached a point of desperation in their lives where the best way they can see to make money is to ask a stranger for it, then it doesn't matter to me what they have or don't have. I will help them as much as I am able, without being a d**k about it.
I'm speechless! I really am... I find it hard to believe people like that live among us and haven't suffered any consequences to flip them upside down. The god damn nerve of these people...

Basically what I would say to all the a******s on this story. “You dense mother f****r”
I will never understand some people's ability to complain about free stuff. The first time I encountered this phenomena I was at a ~free~ concert being headlined by a fairly well known band, with an also well known band (that I actually came to see, not the headliner) opening for them. The crowd booed the first band off the stage chanting the headliner's name after only playing like 2 songs. Sometimes humanity can be incredibly disappointing. I had been wanting to see that band play for years. Sigh.
So many of these make me think of that line from the Kids In The Hall's "Decaf" sketch: "B***H, ARE YOU FOR REAL??!?!?!??!"
In Denmark homeless people can get a job where they buy a bunch of magazines (named Hus Forbi) to sell. They pay 10 dkr per magazine and resell it for 20 dkr. It gives them pride in life to earn some sort of living. It's brilliant.
I come to bored panda because it's very positive but lately its been nothing but bad news and depressing society stories and how someone got burnt for being racist on Tumblr or Reddit or something like that.
