According to Statista, negative comments and generally abusive language tops the list of the most common forms of negative prejudice against women online, which is followed by sexist and misogynistic remarks as well as actual threats.

My husband has been mistaken for a gay man purely because he is kind and non-threatening to women (and he also loves show tunes!).

YES lol. In school my group of girl friends basically adopted the only gay boy in the class. The other boys were more scared of him.
As time goes on, I find most of the newer men friends I make are gay. There seem to be more straight men now than ever that think they (or some other man they know) can "cure" me of being a lesbian.
I've had lots of straight male friends in life, and I never saw any of them as a violent threat. It's the guys I've dated that were more of an unknown factor... some of them were good, and some not. We need to normalize going on group dates as a first/second date until everyone is comfortable enough to move forward.
My best friend in the universe was a gay man, friends since 1999. He passed away just before Christmas and I don't think I will ever stop grieving.

I tended to vacation at gay heavy locales. My group, including mom, sister and friend, could always hook up with a group of guys. They were hella fun! And safe, polite, and flirty with mom (in her 70's then).
Through Facebook's function of showing if people are interested in men or women, I found out that an old colleague was gay, many years after I quit working with him. That cleared up many questions I didn't even know I had. He was always so restful to be around, like a woman friend.
I (CIS male) have a ton of girlfriends who also happen to be gay. They are some of the best relationships I have in life, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I also try to make clear that my straight female friends realize they can have a deep, meaningful, male/female relationship without it involving sex. And I also have girlfriends who understand that I have female friends that mean a lot to me, but that there is no need for jealousy. Cheating is the anti-thesis of having meaningful relationships, and it would jeopardize not only our relationship, but ALL of my relationships. Adults don't cheat.
I always find it depressing that in this day and age, so many men and women still think it's impossible to have real friendships with the opposite sex. My friends have always been pretty much equally distributed amongst male and female, gay and straight, and it's bizarre to think that's probably pretty unusual by most people's standards. What a boring, limited social sphere they set for themselves, thinking you can't have certain kinds of friendships because you can only see certain kinds of people in sexual terms.

And the other way round. Many times over the years I've become close friends with a gay man, especially colleagues, only to realise he's straight, and then do a quick mental review of everything I've said or done that might be construed as giving the wrong signals.

I'm in the UK and our houses are small. We had a couch delivered a couple of years ago. I told the guys when they arrived to take it in thru the close and bring it in thru the back door. It's wider and there isn't a sharp turn from the front door and into the living room (I had already taken the kitchen door off the hinges for the couch to fit thru). But did they listen? Nope. Half an hour of trying to get it into the living room from the front.....not only did they ding the door frame, but they managed to get it wedged in the stairway and pull up a bit of the carpet. After I told them again about taking it around the back they finally listened to me and spent another half hour getting it back outside. 20 mins later I was sitting on my new couch, seriously pïssed! If my hubs had been home, how much you wanna bet, they would have done what I said immediately!
