“I’d Call The Police”: Man Freaks Out Over Wife’s Creepy Question, She Doesn’t Like His Reaction

Interview With Author

Kickstarting a healthier lifestyle is never too late, and getting your partner on board makes it that much more motivating. However, when one decides to commit to their health and the other doesn’t, it can create additional obstacles in the relationship.

This wife was trying to persuade her husband to go on a weight-loss journey together. However, her methods were more than questionable, which majorly freaked him out. This pushed him to share the story on Reddit, asking if his reaction was adequate.

Scroll down to find the full story and a conversation with its author, who kindly agreed to tell us more about it. We also reached out to mindset coach and brain and mental wellness consultant Shannon Vit to learn about the importance of having similar wellness goals as a couple.

Going on a health journey is much more motivating with a partner by your side

However, this wife approached it all wrong by offering weight-loss injections to her husband

After receiving a lot of questions, the author answered them in an update

“I’m losing weight slowly and she is as well, it’s just one of several arguments we have”

Bored Panda reached out to redditor spillingtheantenna, who shared this story online and agreed to tell us more about it. Naturally, we were curious to know what inspired him to take this matter to the “Am I Overreacting” community. He told us, “I wanted to see if people agreed more with her or more with me. A lot of times, when we argue, she always says, ‘That’s not normal.’ But she tends to see things from her Desi culture only.”

What made him reluctant to take the medication was his firm belief that hard work and reducing calories could help him lose the weight. “I really don’t want medical assistance to suppress my appetite. Plus, after watching Dr. Mike and Athlean-X on YouTube explain the side effects of the drug, the less I want to take it,” he added.

In the update, he mentioned that he records the discussions between him and his wife, and he tells us it’s because their views often misalign and he needs an outside opinion. “She thinks how I act or do things is not normal, and she hounds me on it for several minutes. I could clean the house spotless but if I leave the mail on the table, she goes off on how I do not do things efficiently. And I need another person’s POV.”

However, he notes that these quarrels happen once and never get mentioned again. “A lot of my recordings are one-off arguments such as why I can’t turn the lights off when I leave a room, why I keep the room too warm in the summer, or my favorite…why do I walk in the house with shoes on?”

He concluded by saying, “I’m losing weight slowly, and she is as well, it’s just one of several arguments we have.”

Having different views on wellness can lead to intense stress in the partnership

We also contacted mindset coach and brain and mental wellness consultant Shannon Vit, who says that “being in a relationship where both partners share similar wellness and health goals is crucial, as it fosters mutual support and understanding.

Since relationships involve spending a significant amount of time together, shared values regarding health can lead to a more harmonious and fulfilling partnership. When individuals prioritize similar goals, such as healthy eating and exercise, it creates a supportive environment that promotes overall well-being.”

However, when one partner seeks to adopt a healthier lifestyle while the other is reluctant, it can lead to challenges and strains in the relationship. Vit explains, “Feelings of resentment may arise, especially if the changes disrupt established routines or shared activities. Additionally, it may become difficult for the health-conscious partner to maintain their newfound habits in the face of opposition or a lack of support.”

That said, something that can help mitigate these challenges and allow both partners to pursue their wellness goals without negatively affecting their relationship is open communication and personal accountability.

Sometimes, leading by example is enough to get a reluctant partner on board

Image credits: Ketut Subiyanto (not the actual photo)

Vit notes that “encouraging a reluctant partner to embrace a healthier lifestyle requires patience, understanding, and effective communication. It’s important to lead by example and demonstrate the benefits of healthier habits through your own actions. Engaging in open and non-judgmental discussions about the reasons behind the desired lifestyle changes can help your partner understand the importance of these goals.

Additionally, focusing on shared benefits, such as improved overall well-being and strengthened relationship dynamics, can motivate reluctant partners to consider making changes. Ultimately, while you cannot force someone to change, providing support and encouragement can create an environment where they feel empowered to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.”

She mentions that sometimes the hesitation and resistance to embrace a healthier lifestyle stem from their experiences, values, and beliefs about themselves that are often shaped in childhood.  “If they don’t perceive themselves as worthy of feeling their best, or if they were raised in an environment that normalized unhealthy habits, convincing them to prioritize their health might be challenging.

To facilitate change in how a person views themselves and their potential for a healthier life, it’s essential to ask the right questions and help them recognize their worth and capability to make positive changes,” she adds.

Commenters expressed their shock, saying it’s time for couples therapy

She is a DOCTOR and doesn't know this constitutes assault? And believes in stupid weight-loss d***s over just eating right and exercising? I would sleep alone in a locked room from then on.

She really should not be practicing if she's this nonchalant about such a serious thing. I hope OP reported her. She's dangerous and keeping this to himself is irresponsible

This whole relationship seams weird. Why is he recording conversations with his wife and why is he sharing the conversations with his "mission partner"? That is so bizarre. Also, my guess is she was saying a hypothetical of a fake scenario and then it lead to a real fight. Kinda like, "would you still love me if I was a worm?" Sorta thing. Idk. This whole thing is weird.

I don't know. If she is in the habit of complaining about his weight, she might be testing the waters. But I agree. This whole post is weird from start to end.

Unintended harm my a*s! If he had an unexpected reaction she would have a hard time proving she didn't intend to kill or harm her husband. Anyway, she should be reported just for suggesting it. A doctor who doesn't understand the concept of "consent" is a danger for her patients. Even if she thinks it's for their own good, any patient has the right to reject a treatment, except if s/he is a danger for others. In every other case, no means no.

I don't think that couples counseling will help THIS situation. The thought of being injected with some weight-loss d**g while sleeping would be enough to give anyone nightmares. This is grounds for divorce.

I strongly suspect she has already injected him. How does he know whether he is a light sleeper in ALL parts of his sleep cycle? Maybe he sleeps really light in some parts of his sleep cycle, but not in others. Maybe she spiked his drink with something that makes him sleep deeper. But even if she hasn't, she has now shown to have zero respect for boundaries, she has a completely psychopath mindset. Run for the hills. Get a divorce and don't sleep in the same house as her for even one more night without a really good lock.

I call BS on this one and the guy can't do math. 7 lb in one week is 3500 cal deficit a day (1lb is Abt 3500 cal). That's probably more than he eats in one day. Did he starve himself entirely and take up marathon training? And if it was all from sodas it would mean he drank 150+ sodas a week.

Totally believable for several reasons. The first week of weight loss can be unusually high. He gave up something with a lot of sugar and empty calories to swap in water. All that soda likely caused water retention and made him hungrier. A lot of his loss was excess bloat versus fat. Sad fact for women but men can easily lose twice as much weight too.
