Buffalo Man Adopts 5 Siblings So They Won't Be Split Up In The System
Done. Now can we please do something about the onions
Load More Replies...It kills me when siblings are separated, especially when it's twins. This man is a king for fostering kids, and especially for making these beautiful kids family.
I saw it way too often working in CPS, and it was awful to see, and frustrating knowing I couldn't do anything about it, even though I always tried to speak up and say the kids should stay together.

And that judge clearly really loves this aspect of her work too. Must help her when she's dealing with things that aren't going well. Beautiful little princesses with their tiaras and very handsome little men in their suits.

After 10 Years Of Addiction, Prisons, And Rehabs, I Finally Have A Career I'm Proud Of, A Credit Score, Bought My First Car At 30 Years Old, And Have A Place To Live
It is possible to climb out of the hole.
If more people supported those trying to come back into society then fewer would end up back behind bars.
I don't know you but I am so proud of you. If you haven't seen the crippling hold of addiction or been through it yourself, you can't even imagine trying to climb out of it. Honestly, I'm so glad I saw this thus morning, thank you for sharing! :) Again, very proud of you. You're doing it!! đ
That is great to hear! I am happy to see when fellow addicts are able to overcome their addiction and turn their lives around. It took me nearly 20 years to do so, and even though it might seem impossible, it is very much possible. God bless this man, and all those struggling. Keep going forward!
We reached out to Stephen G. Post, Ph.D., a medical school professor, opinion leader, and author of Why Good Things Happen to Good People: How to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life by the Simple Act of Giving, to learn more about the relationship between showing kindness to others and our happiness. Post is a leader in research on the benefits of giving and has promoted the idea of "give and live better" across the world. He was kind enough to have a little chat with us and explain how helping others can fill our lives with joy.
According to the professor, we humans have "a well-known psychological tendency for actions to affect emotion." For example, when we smile (even if we are not especially happy), the action itself will elevate our mood. "There is an emotional 'shift effect' that does not take long, really about one hour in adolescents, perhaps 2 hours in adults," Post said.
He also explained that helping "certainly diverts attention from the self and its problems, and engages the mesolimbic pathway, which releases one of the happiness chemicals dopamine. When engaged, this tends to shut down pathways associated with destructive emotions like rumination, hostility, and anxiety."
Wholesome Nurse
My husband did that too. Unfortunately the lady was unable to take the dog back but we found him a brilliant home with lovely people, and we kept in touch. RIP Danny
We need more of these stories. The past two years were and endless decent into darkness. The best and the worst of what makes us human.
This picture was on another thread so I will repeat my comment. If anyone in the UK finds themselves in the situation of the man in this post please look up The Cinnamon Trust. They have a large network of volunteers who help to care for the pets of the sick and elderly. I am a dog walker with them so I regularly walk the dog of an elderly couple who struggle with mobility but they also have people who foster pets while their owners are in hospital.
Thank you for what you do thank you. You are blessing to these people. They don't have to worry about there pets. Thank you

This Wholesome Coworker
Straight in the face of people who think that being Muslim/religous means being a bigot.
OP is a transgender woman. Went to coworker's house for tea. Coworker wasn't wearing her hijab, which Laws of Islam dictate that she must around men. This indicates that she accepts that her transgender friend is indeed a woman. A very accepting gesture
Load More Replies...Makes me want to cry every time! Such a simple yet beautiful and meaningful way of affirming someoneâs gender.
I just want to make sure I'm understanding this. Muslim women can be without their hijab in private, with other women? Do I have this right?
To paraphrase an earlier explanation, in the laws of Islam, a woman must wear her hijab when in the presence of men, but with her transgendered friend, she was accepting her as who she really is, hence, she didn't need to wear her jijab in the company of other women. Hope this helped :)
Load More Replies...So when we help others, we help ourselves. The professor provided an example of how volunteering improves our well-being. "Survey of 5000 adult Americans indicated 41 percent volunteering about 100 hours per year or estimated couple of hours a week." The vast majority of the participants (70 to 90 percent) said they felt happier, more resilient, and physically healthier. Moreover, they were able to form better friendships and find more meaning in their everyday lives.
"Studies indicate it is good to get together with fellow helpers to debrief and process the experience," he added. It appears that when we have fulfilling and enduring relationships with other people, we create small circles of trust that are good for reflection and can add a lot of value to our lives.
"Our friends are no longer just the folks we hang out with or part with. Helpers report deeper relationships formed in the community of fellow helpers," Post noted, saying that it’s always beneficial to celebrate giving with others.

As soon as i told my boss this, he immediately told me 'dont worry about work. dont come in and dont log in from home either. Take all the time you need and be with your mother' (i am the only one who can do my job btw) she died 3 weeks later from stomach cancer. the time he gave me means more than he will ever know. i could focus solely on caring for her. He gave me a priceless gift. When reading this i could not help but shed a tear.
So sorry for your loss, Lainey. My mum died 9 years ago, and my boss also gave me the last three weeks with her. That time spent is incomparable, isn't it? Sending virtual hugs.
Load More Replies...I lost two friends in a tragic accident my senior year of college. I attempted to attend class in the days afterwards but could not focus because of the grief. I completely zoned out during one class and the professor pulled me aside after class. I presumed he was going to be upset about my lack of participation but he said "Please don't worry about my class, don't come to my class, and don't worry about any assignments. Take the time you need to be with friends and family, then catch up on your other classes. Drop by my office in a couple of weeks and we will come up with a plan to slowly get you caught up!" That was 14 years ago and the kindness that man showed me still brings tears to my eyes. It was the first time I actually felt like eventually everything would be OK again!
What a great letter. It is so genuine in how compassionate and heartfelt it is. Professor gets an A+ from me.
I went back to college at 44, and had a lovely professor like this. I got extremely sick, my ears clogged up, and wouldn't clear and couldn't get it figured out. This amazing woman wanted to support me for going back to school at this age, and worked with me. I had had an A before getting sick, and she worked with me, letting me do online stuff so I could keep up a good grade as well as passing. We need more of these people.
Losing a sister is unreal. I lost mine just over a year ago and the empty pieces are unlike anything I've ever experienced. People like this professor are the best of this world.
I lost mine in 2019 and you are right: it's unreal. You never quite heal, just learn to live with it. Much love to you.
Load More Replies...Wish my daughter's teachers were as understanding with her instead of coldly sending her to the resource room and interrogating to her why she's crying, and having the audacity to say "Oh, it's only your great grandmother. Why are you so upset?" Her great grandmother wasn't that old (family has 'em young-ish with every generation), and she was very involved and loved in that side of my daughter's family. Always planned and cooked for every holiday (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, reunions) and she had retired only 12 years prior to passing. So nice to know there are teachers with a heart out there.
Me:crying My sis: are youâŠ. Are you crying? Me: no. (Grabs onion from fridge.) It the onions.
He continued: "As one who has managed several large volunteer programs, it is best to let helpers self-select the activity or venue they prefer." Sometimes people only want to do the things they are good at, and other times they want to do something entirely new. "Some report a flow state of deep immersion and satisfaction, even a loss of a sense of time," Post said.
If you want to make your days a little brighter, there are a few small steps you can take. Dr. Stephen Post would like to remind you that it’s "not the amount of helping others that matters, but helping from the heart." He advises starting with small things done with kindness. "I like to Stop, Look and Listen mindfully to people around me so I can notice their needs better," he explained, adding that chronological rush can keep us from observing or hearing others’ needs.
Love When Grandparents Try New Technology And Like It. It Is So Wholesome Every Time
that's completely adorable. In my life, I have a 87 year old father and a sort of 90 year old father/grandfather figure. I try to keep the younger one happy by not pushing technology on him (he wants what he wants) and the older one just absolutely loves to be outgoing and involved so if he wants to go to the center of the town where he lives on Christmas eve for "shits and giggles" damn right I am going to take him there - and engage him. Always engage him.
This made me realise just how much I miss my grandmas who both helped raise me when I was younger. When my nanny was in her late 80s we used Google Maps to look up her old childhood home in England--she was so happy to see the street where she lived.
Meanwhile my grandmother doesn't understand that her solitaire game is on the next page but also doesn't want anyone to move it so it's easier for her to find.
Teacher Posted This To Parents- So Thoughtful
That's such a great idea, and just another burden that so many teachers take on, above and beyond their paid responsibilities. Teachers deserve so much more respect, and money.
Yes, spot on. I so wish people that think they "only work 9 months" would understand what goes into those 9 months.
Load More Replies...It would be amazing if my school had done this. I can't tell you how many times a teacher made me cry when I was little because I had had a crappy night the night before. (I have to say she was not the nicest teacher from the viewpoint of an 8-year-old with severe anxiety)
Too many great folks become hardened and calloused in a career of teaching. So glad this one has not.
This is awesome! Thank you for acknowledging that kids need help with their feels sometimes too. Too many times children's feelings are dismissed.
This one really touched me! The quiet thoughtfulness is truly refreshing!
Why can't it always be like this? That would have been so helpful.
I know Ill be downvoted for this but you shouldnt change your behavior based on a note. Some kids have bad night every single night. And all kids deserve kindness and care every single day, not only if they had a bad day at home. This should be your character not a reminder.

They're called sobriety coins, representing how many days the person has gone without alcohol. Each one is for a progressively larger number of days. The silver one is the very first, and it's for one day(the first two weeks are often the hardest). Each one after the silver is for another month of sobriety, up to the one year mark.

Yes she was the baby in the childbirth death, not the mom.
Load More Replies...I also died during childbirth, as did my baby. They brought us both back. I'm glad nobody gave up on us.
Same happened to me... my feet and lower legs were bluish-black by the time I was delivered. The doctor in question died a few years back and is partly to blame as he didn't believe my mother was at point in the delivery she was (this was back in the 60s and most births were home-based) and attended six hours later. I do appreciate him resuscitating me, though.
You're blessed. My niece had the umbilical wrapped around her neck during a difficult birth, she now suffers from brain damage. It made her into a drug addict and no one can help. Such a difficult childhood that poor girl and my Sister endured.
How did brain damage at birth make her into a drug addict? Did she have resulting pain which required opioids which then led to addiction? Sorry, I've just never heard of this happening and am curious.
Load More Replies...I am so glad that one doctor did not give up on her I am so glad she is here today. God bless that man. Sometimes you don't need to give up. Thank you to that man every baby life is precious đ
More often than not, however, life can be difficult. Unexpected situations, adversities in our personal lives, and small bumps on the road can significantly affect us and make it harder to support others. Post mentioned that there is a side of "human nature that humiliates and de-dignifies others. It is widely expressed."
Fortunately, the professor also had some great news—we are all wired for altruism and kindness. Even if it may seem that there are many unpleasant and insensitive people out there, "we must always remember that everyone has that wonderful generous kindly flip side of the coin. The negative is just a part of the story."

My 3-Year-Old Son Just Beat Cancer (And I'm So Happy)

After 16 Years Of Homelessness I Finally Have My Own Place

Been there, done that. They'll finally get a peaceful full night's sleep.
Congrats Dude/Dudess! Now move that fridge so you can open the oven door.
Rotating the refrigerator 90 degrees so it faces the oven would provide the necessary clearance, and putting a piece of furniture behind it would help to define the space.

"Never let anyone tell you that altruism and kindness are not real, that they just disguise selfishness. There is a saying that is wrong: 'Scratch an altruist and watch an egoist bleed.' Actually, we are better than that," Post told Bored Panda.
He suggested that a crucial part of increasing the helping mentality in our society is to raise kind children. "There are good ways to do that, including volunteering as a family." That way, people can form stronger and more resilient family bonds.
"Sometimes we learn so much from helping," Post said. "The vast majority of medical students helped a loved one will illness and found it meaningful. Grades go up when students feel that their studying will benefit others. People with altruistic purpose are more eager to learn." So supporting others, even when we face problems, can boost our mood and help us gain perspective.

Anorexia is so scary because itâs hard to recover, this is a very good thing
And no one can convince you that it's enough. When you look in the mirror, you don't see what everyone else sees, and you slowly starve and exercise yourself to death. IMO, when people are like this they should be hospitalized against their wishes. They really can't understand what they are doing to themselves. Our brains are extremely powerful organs, much more capable than anyone of us realize.

Dr. Stephen Post is a prominent voice in positive psychology, a field that focuses on how to help humans lead healthy, happy lives on both individual and societal levels. "Positive psychology is not about denying difficult emotions. It’s about opening to what is happening here and now, and cultivating and savoring the good in your life," Ron Siegel, PsyD, assistant professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School, said.
Many want to start sharing kindness with others and reach a whole other level of happiness but are not sure where to start. If that's the case, there is a small exercise to try. The only thing you need to do is flip a coin and check which side is showing when it lands. Heads, do some pleasure-seeking activity like watching a movie, giving yourself a manicure, or dining out.
Tails, do something to help out your community or the people around you. You could give a charitable donation, have a chat with an elderly person, or begin volunteering. Try to notice how it makes you feel at the exact moment and in the days that follow.

Because yes, the trials were real and legitimate and no corners were cut. The vaccine was thoroughly researched and tested, and is safe and saving lives.
Although I'm not against the vaccine, I'm wondering who really chose for him to do that
I know several kids who did the trials, and they were all SUPER excited to be part of history.

Do you notice the difference here, between a parent allowing their child to make a decision, as opposed to the anti-maskers/vaxxers, who talk about what they want for their children. I've never heard one of those parents saying they ever even talked about with their kids.
I've heard parents talking a lot about it with both opinions.

This restaurant is in NJ. There is one in D.C., run by a Muslim man, Sakina Halal Grill, that has given out free meals to many homeless people, up to 80 per day. He almost lost his restaurant during the pandemic, but a Go Fund Me was subscribed to by his customers, and he was able to resume serving food to paying customers and able to feed those who are homeless as well.
This is truly heartfelt and such a kind gesture. Nobody should have to go hungry or feel shame for not being able to afford a meal. This reminds me of a cafe I used to frequent at my old work place where you could purchase a drink or little meal that would be donated to someone in need.
I think all restaurants could afford to do this. It would make the world a better place.

Lastly, one of the ways to stay positive during difficult times is sitting down and appreciating the things you’re grateful for. It allows us to acknowledge the goodness in our lives and detach from the things that go wrong. Thinking about your past, present and future will help you to not take things for granted and remain hopeful for what’s to come. Even if it may sound a bit cheesy, keeping a gratitude journal can help you become more aware of the things you’re thankful for.

Oriini Kaipara Creates History As The First Journalist With MÄori Face Tattoo To Present Primetime News
It's a shame it took so long for society to be this accepting but at least it happened
Downvotes will probably follow this but...do we know if there was many journalists with Maori face tattoos that have been refused the opportunity to present primetime news? Whilst I personally don't like tattoos I know for the MÄori culture they are a big thing so they should be celebrated and no one should ever be overlooked for their culture no matter what it is.
After decades of having colonialists trying to stamp out MÄori culture, it's really important to have role models like her to empower young MÄori to take their amazingly rich culture back. This is a big deal. I smile every time I see young tangata whenua bearing their whakapapa on their face.

Sometimes, when an elderly owner passes away, the family who are left can't take them. Every animal at a shelter has a shot at a second chance. It's a much better option than having the pet euthanized.
Yes - sometimes the incoming cat just cannot get on with the bereaved familyâs cat. Or the latter has a vicious psychopath for a kid.
Load More Replies...My husband and I only adopt senior dogs. Three just passed away over the last two years. We have one old guy left. We're letting him be spoiled as our "only child". We'll adopt again. It's really tough but it seems to be what we need to do. I can't imagine the elderly babies not having a home to feel safe and be taken care of.
Itâs cats for me, but I love this idea too! When my dearly beloved old cat Schnuppi died last year, I thought I could never have another cat. Then someone told me there was a 17 year old cat in a shelter, that nobody wanted to adopt. Sheâs not that healthy and will probably only be around for another year, but the time she has left will be happy, and I know that I will keep adopting old cats to give them a last loving home!

I doubt many, if any, of them really want to end up stuck in the endless hell-loop that they're in but dragging themselves out of the hole they're in isn't easy. Just look at the face of someone who's achieved this and they look like they've won the lottery- it might not be much but it's another huge step on the road to recovering/building their self esteem/self worth.

You're Adopted
Whoever runs Wendy's Twitter is awesome and so funny. I love how they turned this insult back on the troll.
You should see the article a while back about national roast day, where Wendyâs roasted several companies and people!
Load More Replies...You gotta be a special kind of stupid to try and come for Wendy's. They will read you to FILTH.
I used to get Wendy's while traveling for business, and I always posted a picture of me completing the heart on their cups. I have two adopted cousins and two adopted nieces and one adopted sister. Adoption is wonderful.
I am adopted, and while this is sometimes true, it's not in my case. I am black, and my birth parents had to sadly put me up for adoption only because of financial issues. I was only adopted because my adoptive parents didn't care what skin color I was. I would have been taken away from them and placed in the foster care system if they cared about my race. Adoption isn't always beauiful. There is a TON of trauma on the child and the first parents.
Load More Replies...I hate people that use things like adoption as an insult to other people. Adopted or not family is family regardless of being blood family or otherwise.
I have 2 adopted children, my sister has 4. We are SO blessed!
I don't know why people try to use "you're adopted" as an insult. People who adopt do so because they WANT to. Whomever was adopted was WANTED. My brothers used to torment me by telling me I was adopted until my parents told me, "Next time they say that, tell them that we adopted you because we wanted you and we just happened to get stuck with them". It worked like a charm.

My Public School had something like this, way back in 1955. There were a lot of post-war "New Canadians", with kids, who were struggling. The box was on a chair in a closet between the nurse's office and the Principal's office, so kids who needed it could slip in and out without anyone noticing. After a couple of years, the teachers who organized it noticed (and mentioned to my Mum) that there was now more 'Old World' donations, like spaghetti and Schnitzel. I think it worked, all right.
we have that at all our schools but no limit :) we never run out though. there are always people who dont want their food.
It's all the little things that lead to massive change. Just imagine if everyone did something small to make a difference, everyday, what kind of world this would be.
Statue In My Home Town Made Of 100,000 Knives Removed From UK Streets
What makes it more terrifying is the number of knives that had bodily fluids on them - some arrived in evidence tubes. Some are also engraved with messages from the families of those killed in knife crime. It's an incredible scultpure
Load More Replies...That picture was taken in my town. My 13 year old daughter spent 10 minutes just staring at it. Most are simple kitchen knives, but there were also machetes, flick knives, zombie knives, knuckle dusters. She just couldn't understand how anyone would want to have an object whose sole purpose was to harm someone else. Glad we live in a town where she doesn't feel the worry about self protection that some of these poor kids do.
The fact is ... knife are also amazing and useful tools. I don't like to speak like that because I feel like a pro-NRA while I'm definitively not. I always have a knife in my pocket, I use it a lot at work. It can be a screwdriver, cut rope, put jam on your bread, open packages ...

My Mom Crochets And Donated 42 Blankets To Sick Children This Year
Wow! And I thought heroes were only in the movies. Your Mom is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. Thinking of 42 children feeling her warmth.
In my town here in Sligo my late mother founded a quilting group just so she could meet and make like minded friends after my Dad died. The group of people she met and made the group with were excellent quilters just like she was. She then had the idea of making quilts for sick and dying babies and young children in our local hospital. She called it "The Linus Project" after Linus in the Peanuts cartoons. The quilts were all made at the quilters expense, and donated free to the hospital. The parents were allowed to keep the quilt given to them. Some times babies and children who died were buried in them but for more often than not the parents kept the quilt as it was the last blanket their child was wrapped in. If the child survived they got to take the quilt home and keep it. They made hundreds of quilts and even if our local hospital didn't need as many they gave quilts to other hospitals too. My mother passed away of cancer last year. I miss her so much. She was a true inspiration and everybody loved her.
I crochet constantly and can't find anywhere to donate my stuff. Makes me crazy!

Remember When Tom Holland Promised Bridger He Could Come To The Filming Of Spider-Man? He Delivered
First, a huge thank you to Tom, @harryholland64, @zendaya, and the entire Marvel/Sony cast and crew for this dream-come-true adventure.
When we first arrived on set, I was a little apprehensive that once the âcurtain was pulled backâ that the magic of the movies would be lost for the kids. The opposite was true! Tom, Zendaya, Harry, @lifeisaloha, @tonyrevolori, and the entire cast/crew made our kids feel like stars. They donât just act the part of friendly neighborhood heroes - thatâs what they truly are.
The look on the kidsâ faces was priceless when we rounded the blue-screen to see Tom, in full costume, high above the set on a light post. It was emotional to see him waive at the kids like he was the one that was supposed to be excited - not the other way around.
He is! And I have heard amazing things about how genuine and sweet Zendaya is as well! They make such a cute couple. Also, some background for those not familiar with Bridgers awesome story: https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/21/entertainment/bridger-walker-spider-man-set-tom-holland/index.html

The Koala That Lives In My Backyard And The New Sign The Council Just Installed So It Can Cross The Road Safely. Normal Residential Street In Australia
when a mated pair of sand cranes moved into the empty lot across from my apartment building, the neighborhood put up a Crane sign like thus. it's definitely warranted, since when I worked 3rd shift, one night one of them was sleeping in the main road. nearly hit it. it bleary looked up at my headlights and I managed to drive around it at least. never saw them in the road again, thankfully. we see them with fledglings every year :)

Scotlandâs Baby Box. Free Essentials For Every Newborn To Give Them The Best Start
They got the idea from Finland who have been doing it from the 1930s. After the first baby, you can either have a box or a cash equivalent with subsequent children I believe. This is why the attitude of we're the best country ever lets people down - if you're open to looking around you can see who does things better than you and learn from them and they can learn from the things you do best. That way we all improve.
Load More Replies...the box can be used as a bassinette. Not guessing - you can see the foam mattress. I don't think they are the only country in Europe who does this either. Awesome program.
That's true. Maternity pack/baby box was invented in Finland over 80 years ago and it's now in use in over 60 countries.

Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding (like savoury popovers to Americans I think), veg, potatoes and gravy (British gravy not US gravy) :)
Load More Replies...If you're not from the UK and don't know why this is such a lovely gesture- the Sunday roast dinner is a traditional family meal, and in many places people still actually go 'home' to their parents to get together to eat it. It's like a little mini-Thanksgiving each weekend. It takes hours to prepare. Sharing your Sunday roast with a stranger is a really friendly gesture. I would be very moved if someone did this for me!
Homeless And Broke But I Managed To Get Some Turkey. Very Thankful. Happy Thanksgiving
I worked at 711 every night I would have a ton of write offs. So I started making meal bags and handing them out to the local homeless people. I've been worried about them since I left I hope someone kept up with it

This Barber Gives Free Haircut To Whoever Can't Afford It
Those who can afford these things like food and haircuts should buy a meal etc from these businesses to give to the less fortunate when they turn up. This would help worthy businesses keep helping others and prosper enough to be there for many years going forward.
In Italy they do this with coffee, they'll buy one for themselves and then one in reserve for someone who can't afford it. I really like this idea, but I can see it being taken advantage of in North America by greedy people who want everything free.

I was mega lucky to get one for Christmas, but it makes me feel so nauseous. I don't know what to do!
Motion sickness? Maybe try to wear sea bands while using it (these little bracelets that put pressure on the acupressure point against nausea on your wrists), it might help!

Somebody Let Everyone Know How To Mute The Loud Ads At The Gas Pump
Omg, I didn't know this was a thing. So you pay for the gas and still need to watch ads!?
There's a mute button? I hate how loud these are. As a migraine sufferer it makes getting gas unbearable with the smell/noise combination so I avoid these if I can but it's not always possible.
It irritates me that we're constantly bombarded with ads, even while pumping petrol.
I came across one of these annoying displays on a pump not long ago. I do NOT need to be entertained for the 2 minutes or so that I am filling my fuel tank... apparently other people- with the attention-span of gnats- do.

Load More Replies...What makes you so sure it doesn't? I'm not religious and am all for real science. However, for all we know, a kidnapper could see this kid and feel bad and return a kidnapped child. Not to mention the placebo and nocebo effects that proves that what we believe can actually both cure and cause illnesses. Science does not rule out that prayers could have any kind of effect. Being sick and having people pray for you and for you to know that you got support, and perhaps believing that it will help cure you may very well help you get better for instance
